Ghajini (2008) Reviews

KARNATAKA (Bengaluru / Bangalore) India
True effort never fails
Sep 23, 2009 10:47 AM 4247 Views

Aamir Khan made it clear from this movie that, true effort definitely yeilds fruit. Even though its a remake movie, he bring it in a new style. Ghazni has its own dimensions in story also. The scientific reasons assigned for his loss of memory is acceptable.

Overall movie is a good entertainer. Whole family can view this movie without any hasitation. It has good flavor of comedy, love, romance, thriller and action. Asin showed her good performace and she is so cute in some situations that it is amazing.

Her lie telling charactor and preparing another person in Ghazni's name and producing him in front of amir khan only to check whether he is acting correct or not are really funny. I watched this movie 4 times, stil I dint feel it a boring. I saw a street side medial shop owner watching and enjoying this movie with his wife and children. really good na.

The Love Story
Aug 06, 2009 04:44 PM 3946 Views

I like this movie because I like acting of amir khan and the asin. I also like the love story that they presented in this movie. The action of the movie is good.In this movie Amir Khan playing the role of rich tycoon Sanjay and Asin is playing the role of model cum activist Kalpana.

In the film they have show that Amir suffering from short term memory loss due to being hit by a metal pole when trying to intervene on his girlfriend's(Asin) murder.

Because of the severe injury on his head, his memory can only last for fifteen minutes and he doesn't remember events or incidents that have happened before in his life. He can now only live a comprehendable life by tattooing notes on himself and taking pictures of things with a Polaroid camera to remind himself of the incidents that have happened. This movie shows us the trick how to remember the things happened in your life using modern equipments.

Good not great

It could have been loads better it was the most antisipated film of the year and it doesn't deliver memento was loads better and the direction was really bad the only thing to recommend in this picture is Aamir's performence.

Muragodoss just can't direct and the film is 3 hours and is way too long atleast half an hour could be cut out and the movie moves slow when there isn't action cleary Aamir has wasted all his effort and time for a movie that falls short of it's potential and I am not a Aamir hater I loved TZP and RDB and Lagaan. This is not up to the mark.

I only recommend it for the brilliant perfomence of Aamir even the newcomer Asin seems too energetic and is not appreciatable in her performence and the villian seems to have only at tops 30 minutes of screen time while it is almost completely focused on Aamir and Asin'sback story

From a child protection perspective......
Jun 23, 2009 06:59 PM 3601 Views

How blessed I am. That the moon descended into my heart, The way you came to me (A Haiku inspired from the movie to my loved one). First of all, Child Protection is everyone business. It costs more if you wait until there're victims.

I would say that one of the theme songs is so touching and so romantic, I picked up my cell phone and send a Haiku to my partner right away.

Unfortunately, I am too fat to be a model like Kalpana!!I think Hindi teacher (in my country) should pick up this song for students. Most NRI in Thailand learnt Hindi as a foreign language so they cannot use the complicated pattern like " The knowledge of Hindi has came to me ( I study Hindi)"

It costs me 70bhat (2USD) to get this DVD..So my expectation is not high, and I just enjoy the songs very very much. There are many erotic reference in the forth song "Hai Guzarish" like the pearl of life, the spring of joy et).

I would say Bombay airport looks nicer than Bangkok airport.I think the guy who plays the supporting role as Sanjay's assistant is also cute but he would fit the Hindu Mythology film like Ramayana type or something ( He is too tall). The girl who plays Kalpana is very beautiful like a real model. I would like to know more her details and previous works but google doesn't help much( Was she in the Tamil version also?).

Amir already got old, my friends at work said he looks like Robbie William but I object( We watched this movie during our unoccupied hours).

Like many audiences, I wonder why the film has to be named "Ghajini". Kalpani's quest is quite unclear. If she really loves children, she should work for UNICEF, not the small advertising company. Then, she can rescue the children the way it should be which is protection.

If UNICEF sees this movie, they are not going to like it as it implied that helping children causes troubles to the helpers, then people think helping children is not their business. Actually, the parents and their community has obligation to take care their children.

It gave a contrast picture of Sanjay's private jet, the apartment in the best neigborhood in the city ( I live in the apartment in the city also, so I expect the highest level of security, how could Khajini go up and kill everybody???) with the train to Goa.So, I would say that the movie's message is quite negative.

It's too late to help children who already lose the organ. Helping the child at its end is helping the villain to cause more problems. It costs less to prevent the things rather than building an emergency houses for girls!!! Does the movie raise more awareness? " No, it doesn't" I like the pattern of storytelling even though it didn't make sense about a lot of things.

Good watch!

“Kaise mujhe tum mil gayee…zindagi pe aaye naa yakin”Shouldn’t have Kalpana thought like this to get business tycoon Sanjay Singhania as her lover?

Lifes surprises are always not so pleasant and this is what in short the story of Ghajini is. When the rich, polished and sober Sanjay falls for the crazy girl with a golden heart, Kalpana he thinks that life will be nice and beautiful going forward. The girl also says yes to him though she never really comes to know of his true identity. She however remains his Kalpana, throughout. Kalpana means imagination and in Ghajini , Sanjay lives the entire time in memories and painful memories of a shattering past.

Amir’s acting always turns things to gold and this movie is no exception. There are so many errors and realistic vs. imagination hiccups in the story. A few examples:

Kalpana concocts the story of her and Sanjay Singhania. Sanjay becomes enraged and comes to her personally to talk about the matter. A business tycoon finds time for that tomfoolery?

Kalpana accepts Sanjay’s proposal in a way which is hard to believe to be serious. She sells her car and gives him the money past 1 at night. God…think about safety man. Couldn’t she just have transferred the money to his account? Sanjay also collects the money and leaves even before he offers to accompany his lady love to her residence since its so late at night. Ok he has a plane to catch.

Anyone gets into Sanjay’s Hiranandani flat easily. From where has Sanjay done those tattoos on his body? They should make anybody suspicious.

Well, that’s enough. Too much technical observation can turn ice cream into a big fat piece of cholesterol so I stop here. I have watched the tamil Ghajini and have also liked it. Amir has an intensity in his eyes which brings things near to reality. He is at times poignant, at times lethal, at times vulnerable.

Asin is also a good discovery as she brings a freaky craziness to her character. She ends as Amir’s “adhoori pyaas” and also ours as a audience as her absence through out the movie is missed.

The narrative technique in the movie is also commendable as flashbacks are shown as flashes and not continuous. The past and future is interwoven into the fabric of the story. It unfolds itself to the character played by Jiah Khan and also to the audience.

Ghajini movie music echoes the theme of the story in its most beautiful songs, ‘Gujarish’ and ‘Kaise mujhe’. Ghajini is a revenge drama with all its masala but stops short of a tragedy. We have characters thirsty for revengelike that before as well, the most famous and lethal was that of Ajay Sharma played by Sharukh in Baazigar. But the more similar would be that played by Sunil Shetty in Mohra. I also thought about Aditya Kashap, the business tycoon payed by Shahid Kapur in Jab We Met. He also had that down to earth attitude of Sanjay in Ghajini and similarly owned a cell phone service provider.

No comparisons here just Amir and his cool looks which change with every movie and work so well.

Gajhni: Is it really a big success
Apr 08, 2009 09:32 PM 4708 Views

Gajhni, a movie show by Mr. Perfectionist Amir Khan. Amir no doubts has shown that he has guts & courage even after 40+ . 8 packs after dedicated hard work of 15 months. In Depth acting, Looks awesome in song with " Behka " in 6 different characters. Asin is very talented & beautiful actress. She never looked as if focused on damm Size Zero figure.

Pretty & focused. Overall story was good & movie is one time show. All those parts in movie till Asin played prank & lie as GF of Sanjay Singhania (Amir) was awsome. Rest same Revenge story in different bottle. Short term memory loss concept is a true copy of 1 hollywood movie. Mostly this movie looks like a South Indian Rajniknta movie. Amir brutally beating almost 50 bad guys was impossible to digest. Songs were very good. Jiya Khan has no role. For the 1st time in my life I witnessed a movie on the name of a -ve character:- Ghajni Dharmatma.

Undigestible crap
Apr 03, 2009 05:50 PM 4453 Views

There is no denying that Amir Khan is one of the best & most methodical actors in our country and some of his movies could easily win oscars…however once in a while he acts in movies with hackneyed, meaningless plots…

At such times you really wonder what on earth could be the reasons that an actor, who is nothing short of a genius (if his masterpieces are any indication) wastes his time with such tripe? Even though this disappointments only add to our realisation that he is only a human and has his own reasons for indulging in such projects, it is still a major let down though…

Ghajini is such a movie, which had me wondering what has possessed an actor of such calibre to act in a movie, whose script is so weak and mediocre…the storyline is quite interesting & in the right hands, it could have been crafted in a slick masterpiece...however much of what I saw was indigestible & unpalatable..

The plot is full of holes…

1) How are we supposed to believe that a man whose memory spans only 15 minutes not only lives alone, but also plans & executes multiples murders without anybody wising up to that fact? How can he be motivated enough to kill people so ruthlessly & cunningly, if he cannot remember beyond a quarter of an hour? I mean, come on, that would mean that just to sustain his murderous rage, someone would need to be continually reminding him of what has happened to him & the love of his life...by the time, he comprehends enough to erupt with anger, he would have again forgotten everything! Atleast this should have been addressed sufficiently, but the audience is just expected to accept it without question

2) Yeah if you watch this movie thinking that the protagonist has a memory span of atleast a day & he forgets what has happened to him every single day and wakes up every day in the morning only remembering that he has been brutally beaten up & his lover ruthlessly killed, that would have made much more sense in my opinion...that would also motivate him to train himself into a killing machine and he just needs to remember how many he has killed & how nearer he is to his ultimate goal..

3) The flashback story of his love relationship with a struggling model asin was dull, uninspired & too predictable…I found it difficult to digest that the heroine with a heart of gold gets enough time from her struggle to establish a career to go out of her way helping people and somehow our hero happens to be just there to witness her overflowing with the milk of human goodness...very, very filmy & melodramatic…

4) When our loverboy proposes to the love of his life and she accepts, their chemistry is as dry & cold as when they were merely friends…in fact even after both accept that they love each other, they behave exactly the way they did all along…no terms of endearment, no passionate moments (except for a couple of songs which looked completely out of place)...& we are supposed to accept that this is the love which causes amir to turn into a raging monster in spite of his memory loss

5) Finally the villain…I had expected the villain of a movie, which is named after him to spend chills along our spines with his mere presence…what we see instead is a uncouth, loud buffoon who does not do justice to his reputation…the way the movie is named after the villain, I had expected him either to be an enigmatic presence or maybe the protagonist himself, which will be revealed at the end of the movie...no chance of any such subtlety...in fact he is the weakest villain I have seen in recent movies

6) Strange, but he seems to be running a ragtag gang of hooligans who do not have things like guns & other weapons to stop the marauding aamir khan…the villain himself is hiding in adda with only a couple of his men to protect him, that too without weapons of any kind...also which self-respecting villain would leave his enemy (who wants to kill him, already has done away with couple of his henchmen & is extremely dangerous) alive after erasing all tattoos from his body?

Sadly this could have been a much better movie if handled properly…I know that when I go to watch a movie, I am supposed to leave my brains at home, but that I do only for movies which don’t take themselves too seriously…you cant have everything & some things are simply too much to digest.. All said & done, strictly a one-time watch…that too, on a dvd borrowed from somebody…

Ghajini...........!
Mar 21, 2009 10:50 AM 3455 Views

Folks , this is not the usual Amir brilliance stuff . He is bold and gutsy to experiment with new themes and has usually succeed well .

Great movie but a bit too long . First half could have been tighter. Full marks to Cinematographer - close shots , romantic panoramas , dynamicaction sequences to eyes of Amir to Amir’s cherubic smile , all havebeen beautifully captured .

The theme and the story is new , but background score is not - seems we have heard it before .Amiris a world class actor in India , the extent of detailing he has put in his character makes the movie a sure watch. But Javed Ali’s voice inGuzarish did not suit Amir . He had better options. 7Last sequence belabors .Of course we could have done without Jiah Khan’s item number and Jiah as medical student ...wow...

Indonesia full justice to expectations from her role and comes up with awide range of emotions rather than just giggle and look pretty. She is assertive, naughty, doe-eyed romantic, unsure, scared, and bubbly. Action sequence are a must watch. Avoid your school going kids to the movie ifyou want to keep them away from blood, gore and violence.

One gets the feeling of having seen that sequence earlier, thru-out the movie. We knew when cell-phone ring would would play a spoil sport and end could have been twisted better rather than offering "feel-good"solution

Senseless south style movie by Amir khan!
Mar 17, 2009 12:54 PM 5531 Views

It has been very long time since I written review at mouthshut but this movie wasted my so much time, I couldn't resist bitching about this movie here.

Although, It seems movie has good story and the way amir khan remembers every thing (I must say everybody should write their goals like amir use to write), but senseless b*tt kicking by amir khan has totally spoiled the movie. I agree he has good shape and body but I also believe amir khan can not kick 6ft 3inch bodybuilder kind of guy and throw him to wall with one hand like peanuts!!.

I mean does it make any sense, is this movie remake of gajini or hulk? The movie was stretched too long (3 hours!) to torture audience and it seems movie is made for kids. Movie also have several flaws, like it show Mumbai bus service in movie but he is staying in pune.

The girl in movie talks so much but when villain comes to kill her, she just says gajini in amir khans ears instead of telling him to run away. In the end amir khan kick b*tt of very strong bodybuilder kind of guys (whole army of them) by himself but gets beating from ghajini (the main bad guy) in the end.

The whole movie was crap though it could have been much much better if you remove senseless fight senesce which looks totally unrealistic and reduce time of movie to 2 hours. I some how agree with amir about the fight senesce, I guess this what Indian People watch (senseless btt kicking) but to me it really makes no sense. I would have given 4 stars to this movie, if there was less nonsense btt kicking senesce and movie may have been 2 hour long. I saved my self by watching this movie on T.V. instead of going to theatre. Its not worth it.

Dont forget this movie!

Its quite and interesting movie an, hit an instant classical thriller amir and asin acting was super but the rest were our average hindi flimstars. it is astory with 2 sides but is very interesting!in the it shows how these two storys of the same person present and past meet. its full of emotion, excitement, sadness and joy it has an amazing storyline and music is not that bad.

It is a it violent(not meant for kids but I saw it!)it is worth ur time and worth watching(and remembering).it is movie grinned to perfection! and its better than the rest of hindi movies on the block!PS- amir has done all lot to make his body look like it was in ghajini(including lots & lots of gym and protein food and drink) so even if u dont like the movie ul like his muscles.Ghajini is a remake of the hollywood hit Memento!

Mumbai India
Great movie
Feb 19, 2009 02:00 PM 3421 Views

AAMIR Khan always knew the importance of being earnest, ever since his Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak days. Taare Zameen Par saw his zeal taking on new colours.

The actor not only made his directorial debut with the film, but also displayed a newfound desire to dabble with meaningful cinema, after attaining a career-high in regular mainstream glitz. With Ghajini, he once again does a U-turn. He waltzes back to the no-holds-barred formula, once again.

And he does it with the same earnestness with which he made a Ghulam, a Sarfarosh . Of course, his wounded, battered, bicep-laden, revenge-thirsty Sanjay Singhania of Ghajini is a much more mature and masterly rendition of the familiar action hero of mainstream masala .

The high point of Ghajini is Aamir Khan's class act of the hero who switches from a shy, taciturn tycoon who finds love in the alley - with an ekdum ordinary girl - to a vulnerable killing machine who mauls his prey like a wounded tiger. Roars and grunts, included! Aamir has hardly anything to say in the entire film.'

And yet, he speaks volumes - with his silences, his expressions, his body language, his helplessness, his guttural, anguished shrieks and then his vacant stare again. A man who suffers from short term memory loss must not only remember the horror of his past, but seek out his beloved's(Asin) killers too and finish them off.

Even though, he might just forget what he's doing while battering them. All he has to help him in his mission are a few scrawls on his body, his walls, his unfinished diaries, his polaroid snapshots, his fading memory cells and a friendly medical student(Jiah Khan).

Not much to go by, specially when the bad guys(Pradeep Rawat and co.) choose to erase most of the clues, including his tattoos. Aamir scores not only as the action hero, where he brings back old-fashioned physical combat to Bollywood guts and gore, but he impresses as the diffident biz honcho too who is willing to travel in buses and scootys with his buoyant Ms Congeniality.

Only because she thinks he's a struggling model who might just be ready to shoot for a ‘chaddi' ad in his desperation. The other place where the film scores is in its narration. Loosely inspired by Christopher Nolan's Memento, the film moves back and forth in time, as it juxtaposes an effervescent romance in the past against a brutalised, spaced-out present.

The two time zones criss-cross interestingly, leaving enough suspense to keep the viewer attentive. The film also boasts of a polished act by Asin who makes her debut in Bollywood with a spontaneous rendition of the good Samaritan Mumbai girl who breezes her way through life, with a smile and a helping hand for all and sundry. A R Rahman's music score too has a few chart busters, like ‘Gujarish’ and the excellently choreographed ‘Behka’.

So what's the hitch, you might ask. Firstly, the film needs some tighter editing, specially in the fight sequences. Second, it needed a real bad guy who could live up to the eponymous character. Pradeep Rawat as Mr Ghajini, with his white shoes, his gold tooth and his ho-hallah brigade isn't as menacing as the title would like us to believe. And lastly, the heroine's conflict with Mr Ghajini - the fulcrum of the revenge drama - just happens out of the blue. Not quite convincing.

All in all, Ghajini is a thoroughbred Bollywood film which celebrates the formula with panache. Enjoy the unadulterated desi! rate(picmsid); var RN= new String(Math.random(); var RNS= RN.substring(2, 11); var b2='; if(doweshowbellyad=1) bellyad.innerHTML= b2;

A hindi movie in south style
Feb 11, 2009 08:34 PM 4154 Views

The experience to watching the Ghajini is like just an ordinary dubbed south indian film. same cinematography, same direction style..

Although the casts plays their roles very well but still it was a feel of an ordinary south indian movie. Although Aamir played his role very well but one thing that I didn't like in him is showing off his muscles most of the time.

Although the music and lyrics are good but two songs in the movie again like south indian dubbed movie. Actually the movie is not an award winning movie yet. When a movie of aamir releases in theatre we want to see some exceptional, that we do not except from others as we know aamir as mr. perfectionist. but this movie does not having such waves.

My overall expereince with this movie was not good. Yaa one more positive thing I like in this movie is Asin. She is cute, Fresh and flowless; even in opposite of Aamir. It's my personal opinion.

Feb 11, 2009 06:01 PM 3372 Views

From being a child to an elder, each human being earns a lot of memories. The store keepers of brain work overtime to store it and retrieve information each moment. I have a feeling that the storing system of our brain is not inside it,but outside the human body. The brain connects and reconnects to the system outside with each breath we take. What if in a moment we lose the connection? Or get only a partial connection? When the blessings of the moments are with us we don't realise its value and treat them casually. Only when we see it is missing know the importance of it.

Love, anger, sympathy, hatred, sadness….all is only for people who are conscious. Take away the consciousness and you are free from everything. When we have memory at some time and no memory after some time things are not that easy.

Love is the major cause of any revenge or crime. With whose love you identify will define which side you will stand. When love take in charge and ask you to revenge nothing can stop you, since you are in the clutches of the greatest force in the universe. Ghajini is a film which unfolds such a story.

Amir Khan's performance is the highlight of the movie. Amir played different moods of Sanjay Singhania with perfection. As a serious businessman to a young lover to helpless victim to roaring tiger of revenge Amir excels!!

Asin did her role well. So is other cast.

Cinematography by Ravi Chandran is excellent. Music by AR Rahman and choreography by Ahmed Khan are good.

The Second best part of the movie is its story telling style. The writer director Muragadoss presented theold theme in a refreshing way. The director knows the audience pulse and keeps them entertained and engaged with one emotion or other. He convinces the audience first and thereby assured the company of the viewers thereafter in the proceedings.

Any minus?

  1. Amir Khan’s character turned out to be a more than life one with all powerful action scenes in the final parts (Here I permit the cinematic freedom) and digest it somehow.

  2. The heroine who imitate as the girl friend of the much known business magnet don’t identify him may be true, but what held her from checking on internet or with friends how he will looks like? Moreover everybody else in the film knows him but not she.

  3. The climax action scenes should have been edited for better. The hero all enthusiastic to meet the opponent turns powerless as soon as he meets the villain. At the end, the hero succeeds only on the weakness of the villain of letting him go out of hook. Given the power and eagerness in him the villain looks a small prey for him. Still the director wanted the villain to be strong further. (I always considered that strong villains make good films but the attempt went a bit further than required in the climax).

However, in the midst of many other nonsensical films the movie stands apart to make it a Must watch.

My rating: 4.5 stars

Ghajini - Better Than The Inspired Original
Feb 06, 2009 09:54 PM 3514 Views

The news that Aamir Khan is doing the Hindi remake of Ghajini forced me to watch the Tamil version, which I enjoyed and had a feeling that Aamir was the wrong choice and might not be able to do justice to the role. Since the film is a revenge saga and has lot of violence, the role demanded an actor who is comfortable in stunt scenes and we haven't seen Aamir doing enough stunts in the past.

I watched Ghajini of course for entertainment but moreover I was interested to see how Aamir would perform. I owe an apology to the perfectionist aka Aamir Khan for under estimating his talent because he gave a power house performance in Ghajini. At times I am happy whenever I am proved wrong, and watching Aamir's performance in Ghajini was one such experience.

The story is of a businessman Sanjay Singhania (Aamir Khan) who falls in love with Kalpana (Asin) but under a different identity. She doesn't know that he is Sanjay Singhania but boasts to everyone, including him that Sanjay is her boyfriend. Sanjay doesn't want to disclose his real identity to her as she has her own ambitions.

Once she saves few girls from the villian Ghajini, who sends his men to eliminate her. Incidently Sanjay reaches her residence at the same time. She gets killed and he gets injured and becomes the victim of the desease due to which he cannot remembers anything beyond 15 minutes.

He carries with him a camera and takes a picture of everything and scribbles some words on them for his reference, be it his manager, his friend or the person he is looking for or the person he has already killed. But he misses the main target GHAJINI (Pradeep Rawat)

Jian Khan plays a medical student, who assists Sanjay to reach Ghajini.

The story looks simple, two lovers, girl killed and boy looking for the killers. Had it not been for the stylish narration of the story by the director A. R. Murugadoss, this movie would have been an ordinary run of the mill stuff. But short yet effective flash backs keeps the viewer glued to the screen. The tempo of the film is fast and the engrossing script with so many twists and turns keeps you wondering, what next?

A.R. Murugadoss who also wrote and directed the Tamil version has changed the climax in Hindi version, which is a very good move by him. Because this was the weakest cog in the wheel in the Tamil version. The changed climax for me was an extra bonus and for once it seemed as if I am watching the movie for the first time. This is where the film scores over the Tamil version. Excellent job Mr. Murugadoss. Hats off to you.

Unfortunately I didn't find the music up to the mark, it wasn't bad either. Just passable. Cinematography is top notch.

Jiah Khan is better then her debut film NISHABD. Asin makes a very confident debut (in Hindi films), she is beautiful and very comfortable in front of the camera. Pradeep Rawat is in top form in the title role of Ghajini.

What can one say about Aamir Khan? He is flawless. Be it in the role of the business tycoon or as the victim, he is amazing. I don't have words to explain his performance. Let me put it in one word: EXTRAORDINARY.Watch it for him, if you haven't seen Ghajini yet and I guarantee you that you'll fall in love with him, even if you are not his fan.

Avoidable
Feb 06, 2009 12:33 AM 1875 Views

Had it not been for the sheer respect of the hard work put in by the hundreds of people who have worked on 'Ghajini' I would have no qualms about calling it a lousy movie. Sure it has become one of the biggest grossers of the Hindi film industry, but so did 'Raja Hindustani' (I have nothing against Aamir Khan.

He is one of my favourite actors). To begin with, I can't understand why are the makers denying that it is not a copy of 'Memento'. The basic premise is not just a copy but a complete rip-off of 'Memento'. That's where the similarity ends.

While 'Memento' was a taut, edge-of-the-seat thriller, 'Ghajini' is a poor wannabe rehash and is completely devoid of the psychological twists of 'Memento' in terms of the script. And let's face it, despite that bulging and well-publicised eight-pack, Aamir Khan pulverising six people triple his size is just not convincing enough. It's like watching Mukesh Rishi as the romantic lead of a film.

Some things are just not meant to be. Aamir is arguably the finest actor of his generation, but he's not infallible. And since we never get to see his transformation from a suave tycoon to the mean killing machine that he becomes, it becomes all the more implausible.

Full marks to the technical aspect of the film. Ravi K. Chandran has done a fabulous job with the cinematography. Whether it was the soft feel of the songs (though, most of them unrequired) or the pulsating energy of the chase sequences, Chandran does remarkably well. Maybe it's the expectations that one has of an Aamir Khan film, but it's not exactly his best work of late.

Movie of 2008

An Intense movie of Amir..Yes he has done it well.Best part of the movie is that it doesnt get bore. That's what you at least expect from any movie.

Amir as usual is perfect in his job. Had done good judgement for the role he got. He has tried to act more intensly but I think that was the demanded for the role he got.

I like the Asin's acting in some of the seens. But some seens were not good specially that at the start. She looked like a complete lead actress.I am not a fan of Jiah Khan. I dont know the reason but I dont like her. :)

Pradeep Rawat (Ghajini) has done a brilliant performance. Specially I liked the rajasthani ascent he used in the movie.. sort term memory los patient :) .Songs are the best part.. AR is like a magician.. I liked all the songs.. But "Kaise mujhe tum mil gayi" is my favourite one.The entire movie was supported by a good story and good direction.A must watch Movie...

Memento was way better
Jan 28, 2009 08:23 PM 1740 Views

My review of Ghajini isn't exactly a review. I am just highlighting the good and the bad points of it. If you don't mind spoilers, read on.

Good points-Aamir's new look. He certainly deserves an applause for the muscles and the eight pack abs.

-Asin, who has entered Bollywood to gives the dominating heroines a tough time, with her performance.

-A. R. Rahman. Guzarish and Kaise Mujhe were marvellous.

-Nice first half of the film.

Bad points- Horrible camerawork at some scenes. Example- there's a scene where Asin's character, surrounded by bad guys is trapped in a train's compartment and opens a door behind her which leads to a whole bunch of army men. They rush at the bad guys, leaping over the seats and pushing each other. This scene is shown in fast forward, which makes it hilarious.

  • Plotholes. Example- Asin's character is trapped inside her apartment from danger of Goons. Sanjay(Aamir Khan) goes to her residence to meet her, totally unaccompanied(Not even a driver!). In the film, he is the head of Voicemail, or Airmail(I can't remember) or in simpler words, a VIP. You can see the absurdness.

  • Action scene at the end-Sanjay goes to Ghajini's hideout and bashes more than forty well built and some armed men. Yet when he meets thin Ghajini, he finds himself struggling. And he can't struggle to bet a man half his size, even after bashing the baddies(Well, he seemed to just touch them.)

I have said so much and I don't intend to waste my reader's time, so to sum the film in a nutshell-

Watch it if you like Bollywood masala films, with good triumphing over evil etc. Don't take the kids with you, and don't expect the present Aamir to act nicely; he looks at his tattoo- KALPANA WAS KILLED- or any other memorabilia from the past, and starts growling.

P.S. Watch it on the tv, or wait for the DVD. Just don't waste your hard earned money by going to the theater.

Ghazini - Ek Pyas Jo Adhuri Reh Gayi...
Jan 28, 2009 12:37 PM 8279 Views

Yeh movie hatke alag si hai woh aur baki movies se bilkul juda hai, na to isme phaltu ke latke jhatken hain aur naa hi bakwas story with lots of stupid songs.

First lets have a look at one of the lovely Song from the movie Ghazini as this song really tells a lot about the movie -

Tu meri adhuri pyas pyas, tu aa gayi mann ko ras ras, ab to tu aaja pass pass.hai Guzarish.

Now the central idea of the movie -

Movie mien Aamir ko Asin ki masumiyat raas aa gayi aur uski itni choti si guzarish thi ki woh uske pass aa jaye par uski yeh pyas adhoori reh gayi.

There are so many reviews posted on MS till today, I have read many of them, found some of them really useful and also some not useful(due to different reasons). Many of the MS members must have already watched this movie or read a lot about this movie so there is no need to write the story of the movie once again.I would try to write what I mostly liked about the movie.

Also I don't compare this movie or Aamir with some other movie or actor, to keep this review away from any controversy.

About the lead artists -

Aamir's performance was excellent. I can't imagine anybody else in this role. He looked very smart and dashing(in flash back) as a businessman and terrific in his first look while taking revenge from Ghazini.

Asin is a new face for Bollywood and she looked very confident and energetic on screen. The viewers always try to find her in every scene.

Pradeep Rawat was also excellent like his old characters. We use to watch him in most of Aamir's movie. He is a good actor of bollywood.

Jiah Khan was just fine. She tried to look sexy in that song but failed to attract viewers due to presence of beautiful Asin in the movie.

About the movie -

On the one end this is a story of love, innocense, romance, but on the other hand it also has the bright colors of crime, hate, revenge, violence, sympathy, passion.

I liked the simple plot of the movie, first its a cool love story of a very talented, confident & dedicated businessman Sanjay Singhania(Aamir Khan) and sensible, beautiful, innocent, helping hearted girl named Kalpana(Asin).

There are many things to learn from this movie -

  1. One should not hide his/her identity from his/her beloved or s/he has to regret like Aamir.

  2. One should plan and think a lot before doing any social service like Asin does in movie and got such a punishment for her kind heart.

  3. One suggestion for Business tycoons to always be in limelight and publish their photos in media so that no girl can dare to spread any rumour about them.

  4. Suggestion for police - do not go alone anywhere behind culprits, it may be dangerous for you as well.

  5. Never leave your cell phone in your car at the time of visit to your girl friend's home. Don't forget to put your cell phone on silent mode at the time

of emergency like Kalpana faced when bad men entered in her house.

  1. Start writing diaries with all your expriences in life so that someone can help you in future at the time of requirement.

  2. The movie has promoted so many products & brands like Hamam, Provogue, etc. Movie makers can use this idea in their forthcoming movies.

  3. Suggestions of Bhai's - Always make a record of your rivals and your killings, so that you need not to worry about any enemy.

The scenes I like most in the movie:

  1. When Kalpana gave money to Sanjay after selling her car and ask him not to sell his land for his mother's treatment. That was their last meeting and Aamir got so emotoinal and the lovely song 'Kaise mujhe tum mil gaye'starts.

  2. Sanjay's entry to the New Year Party of Kalpana's boss Tinu Anand. Kalpana became very shocked of his entry with a costly car and his style and confidence of meeting people at the party.

  3. When all the team of director Tinu Anand try to placate Kalpana to accept the proposal of Sanjan and Kalpana was in dilemma how to react. Even after scolding by Sanjay's employee, she continue to talk on an hanged call and try to show her impression on the crew.

  4. Sanjay's first entry to Kalpana's newly owned flat and she put some clay to have his first foot print for ever. That was really a nice idea and the scene was very emotional. That was only scene when they come so close intentionaly and touched each other.

  5. Sanjay's visit to Kalpana's shooting set to meet her and ask her about the rumor of their love relationship in Mayapuri. And he found her so confident with her false story and helpful nature.

  6. Kalpana's achievement of buying her first Ambassador car for her resolution to become richer than her uncle.

  7. Both the scenes when Sanjay proposed Kalpana in a bus and she ask him to wait for a day. Next day Kalpana's reply with simple word, 1 baje yeh socha, 2 baje woh socha, aur 5 baje socha'karte hain na'.

*I didn't like any of the violent scenes, hence not included in the list. The movie is over all successful in entertaining viewers and the day by day increase in the collection of the movie definitely proves that its a block buster movie of this year.

Thanks for reading this review.

Comments Most Welcome.

Aamir Khan - always hard working perfectionist
Jan 25, 2009 10:56 AM 1690 Views

This only my views after watching the movie, and I am not going to reveal the story/plot in detail.

Aamir has done full justice to the role. He has always been doing that in all his movies. one of the talented perfectionist. I am not so sure about the script / direction - obviously one will feel it is not upto Aamir's standards, I felt. You may have some questions on many things - for one, rich business men never had someone in his office to help him wearing the blazer. Or all his business managers, personal assistants vanish in later part of the plot. so on and on.

But Aamirs performance is brilliant and spectatoror will fell like adding power to his punch when he chases the villain. Hero wins the audience support because of his helplessness due to the disease - anterograde amnesia.

So were the other parts - his romantic stints. May be a bit of overdose of violence for kids. Otherwise you can watch it with family.

I did not watch the original Hollywood version - Memento, nor the Tamil version.:(

Certainly recommend this one.

Past Present and Post Ghajini

My watching of Ghajini(hindi) was totally unplanned for and I was more than satisfied. Actually one person sitting 3 seats away from me was so engrossed in movie that for most part of movie he was on edge of seat leaning forward and even resting his hands on the front row seats in front of him. I normally see at least some people leaving the theater quite sometime before the ending. But for the first time I saw none leaving the movie hall and all remained seated till the very end, despite having good attendance(Balcony, don’t know of other classes). Actually all were so engrossed and wanted to see more of Kalpana-Sanjay despite the film being a little lengthy.

Critics -May be people went with the high expectations being an Aamir movie.Another reason might be some people went with the hidden agenda of writing a Movie review later, and this being always at the back of mind and could only notice flaws in the movie, thus failed to enjoy the movie. There are also some others who could only digest anything that is foreign, ie. English or other foreign language films, but fail to provide same judgment criteria to Indian movies. So foreign heroes can jump bullets, fight any number of guys single-handly, use advanced gadgets which is based on half-baked scientific knowledge. We enjoy it because we know novelty of the concept is important however unreasonable it is. In case of James Bond movies Villain having all powers and ideas wont kill James bond in captivity despite knowing his past credentials only to be eliminated by bond later. James bond can fight a entire a battalion of bad guys. Can get into a pilot less plane speeding to the bottom of a mountain cliff, and then take control of plane. Well James bond is the extreme but most of their action movies do have unreasonable stunts and use of gadgets.

Ghajini is a funny named film.Original Tamil version was also named so, but without any valid explanation. In Hindi version it gives a explanation for naming it so.Please check out the movie itself to find for yourselves whether it is a convincing explanation.Anyway I prefer Ghajini to have some kind of link to movie, and for this reason it was surely an improvement on Tamil version.

In Tamil, Surya-Asin chemistry was great but the ending 30 minutes was unbearable. Infact while seeing tamil gajini when the end titles were shown, a person in the first row in center got up immediately and mockingly folded his hand above his head and stood there for about 1minute in a funny way(Only time I had seen such a reaction and still remember, infact all the people was laughing seeing this). My friend with me couldn’t believe how could there be such a crap movie. Remember Tamil has in recent times had some great movies and this movie was alsogood for its novelty, but the climax of tamil Ghajini, well it has the power to neutralize all the good work shown before. Actually it did surprise me later to know that this movie was such a big hit. Later while watching on vcd I did liked the movie because of great acting by surya and asin but climax was a strict skip.

The highlight of the movie is the love story of Kalpana(played by asin) and Sanjay(played by Aamir). Although Aamir has worked hard for action sequences and was great in conveying his anger and pain in losing his loved one, still the part people will always be remembering would be the love story between Kalpana and Sanjay. Such a sweet love story, however unreasonable it may sound, we love to believe it. After this movie “Kalpana” is going to be a popular name. Those with this name would be having a blast. That much people love Kalpana and all her pranks and inner goodness. Of course the character is not explained in depth but from whatever we had seen or shown she is definitely some one all would love to be associated with. A great mix of naughtiness and goodness.

Asin here playing Kalpana is a struggling model and due to a situation she was mistaken to be the girlfriend of a very successful businessman Sanjay played by Aamir(A door playing a great part in it, check the movie to find the perfect timing of opening/closing). So Asin plays along with this and cooks a great story to it and even tells the same to Aamir in point blank range without knowing actually Aamir itself is the said person she is claiming to be in love with. A person named Sachin seeking asin’s recommendation for modeling assignments had just visited asin before aamir came to meet her. So mistakenly she confuses aamir to have had told his name as Sachin before, and aamir also plays along with this. Later she accepts aamirs marriage proposal all along thinking he is sachin-a want to be model. Aamir keeps delaying to reveal his true identity wanting her to be behaving same as she was, towards him. Finally before aamir could tell her all about him, tragedy strikes and she got killed and aamir was left with short-term memory loss from the incident. Rest of the story tells how aamir despite his disability take revenge for it.

As for me it was a commendable job given the challenging subject, and can easily understand director taking some liberties. Those who are criticizing are hereby requested to provide a viable alternative for those parts, without losing the punch. We all know of movie critics who blast all films, but later when they directed a movie it was even bigger crap and was criticized by critics and public alike.

Some scenes which I particularly remember in Ghajini(Hindi)

1.Bachu song–introducing asin. Great energy shown by her. Though I did liked Guzarish and Kaisea Mujhea, after seeing the movie, bachu also became my favourite.

2.Again in bachu song Asin goes into a door and in next scene she comes through the same door(exact place in scene) in a different out fit.

3.When aamir first met asin, asin tells aamir that sanjay proposed her for marriage, Background music then is of a crow caw(ka ka….). actually the whole scene and dialogues are very enjoyable and provide for good repeat viewing.

4.In party sampath saying to aamir “Tumharea liyea ithna thanda bahuth hey”, and accompanying background music.

5.Ending kaisea mujhea song second part showing asin and aamir sitting in bench(first part also was also good. ie aamir carrying the money given by asin). This kind of ending gave a positive feeling while coming out after movie.

3 weeks Post Ghajini

After all these days of seeing the movie, now and then comes into mind the incomplete love in gajini, what if the tragedy didn’t happen

  1. when aamir tells asin about his true identity, what could be her reaction. Also I keep thinking how could have aamir started revealing this real identity. What could be thepossible starting/middle/ending dialogues?(I have a vague idea, but yet to finalize).

  2. If asin insists on buying 3 ambassadors by her own earnings may be aamir could arrange 0% interest loan for 3 ambassadors which she could repay with her income later.

  3. What could have aamir done with 1 lakh+ rupees given by asin to him?.

4.Would aamir be finding out the ambassador that asin sold, and buying back at any possible price .ie. It symbolizes Sacrifice of own goals for the happiness of somebody you love.

I am in no way an expert to write a movie review and had written as I felt. Thanks for reading my review and special thanks to those who had the patience to read it in full.
