Villian can do lots of wrong this with girl
Oct 19, 2016 07:56 PM3088 Views (via Android App)

In these movie-garv the pride.the villians can do all wrong activities like smuggling, liquor drinks, do lots of fighting and main thing that do with the girl who is sister of salman in this film and salman character's is a police man. Then all villians can do all activities then salman try to stop them but they can't save his sister with these man. They attempt rape with her and all villians do this and make a happy after such a evil crime done by this.

So in the picture gives not do their job with such efficency then he face own trouble so much. After all this all villan crimes transfer to her brother. Such a wrong thing shows or represent that he is in the jail without doing no crime. So the government can also support the villians favour. So in these all crimes are shown that actually do in the societies.

Garv se Kaho.....
Dec 07, 2004 07:54 PM5065 Views

This one I happened to see, just like any other Hindi movie, at my home with my equally capable friend-cum-room mate. We were happy as it was friday night (and start of weekend) so we decided to watch something entertaining.

Choices were - Phir Milenge, Vastu-Shastra, The Incredibles, Cellular and Garv. Upon settling on watching Hindi movies, it didn't matter much. But, for the sake of (night) time, we kept Vastu-shastra aside, and then we knew we had to watch this bare chested thing anyhow.

So, Garv looked enticing. Being away from homeland at least helps you grow your patriotic feelings. It was long since we watched any ''sarpe Kafan bandhke nikla'' type films. We started. Scene one ''Arjun Ranawat (Salman) Murdabad''...''Arjun Ranawat ko faansi do''....the camera moves through all directions in all possible angels.

Opens a door of blue police van, camera takes the top view....Arjun Ranawat puts his feet on ground....camera, now coming down , top of van, edge of van, opened door, Arjun's hairs (he definitely has those) and then his face....he has this misplaced tomato ketchup from morning's breakfast on his forehead, ( wonder how he does that?...relax,Later its said to be a blood). Well, this was the start and in later sequences hes being questioned in the courtroom and then flashback......hence a revenge story.

We watched. A 150some minutes of very conventional and middleclass melodrama + action + shout + dialogues + the X sign.....we watched it whole. Without any note of being bored. Reason : We were happy. And too happy to be saddened by some piece of crap....so we laughed, got involved, sometimes said dialogues exactly as they were about to come.

Nothing was new....nothing at all. It amazed me. A real work of unoriginal 'everything'. How can they just do that? Well, the movie wouldn't be bad, if it had been released in 90s. Now, it irritates. Don't go for it.

Good intentions,poor execution
Oct 19, 2004 08:23 AM6183 Views

He only reason why I had to watch this movie is because it was shown in the luxury bus in which I was travelling. Being seated in the bus I had no escape but to watch the movie which was being shown.

The story of Garv is not new to the Hindi film genre. Police Commissioner Samar Singh ( Amrish Puri ) has the dream of creating a crime free state. He is among those who are anguished to see criminals being let off in the courts due to legal loopholes. Hence he forms a crime control squad comprising of officers such as Arjun Ranawat (Salman Khan) and Haidar Ali ( Arbaaz Khan ). The crime squad kills many members of the criminal gang whose boss is Dubai based Zafar Supari (Mukesh Rishi).

Seeing his fading influence over Mumbai crime scene, Zafar Supari manages to overturn the state government with the help of Kashi Trivedi ( Govind Namdeo ), the opposition leader who then becomes the CM. The Commissioner is transferred. The new Commissioner Deshpande ( Shivaji Satam ) is a handman of the CM and he creates hindrances in the functioning of the crime control squad.

Haidar Ali is killed and branded as an ISI agent by the police Commissioner and Salman's foster sister Raakhi is raped by the politicians and corrupt police officials. To avenge his sister's rape Arjun Ranawat kills 18 people at one go. However, in the court he does not say why he has killed 18 people because otherwise he would have to disclose the fact of rape of his sister. The end is predictable like most Hindi movies.

First about the merits of the film. Salman Khan is the saving grace of the film.He gives a decent performance as ACP Arjun Ranawat. Some of the concepts such as human rights for criminals who do not respect human rights of others are also discussed in this film.

The demerits of this film far outweigh its merits. The storyline is basically weak. Screenplay is pathetic and dialogues most ordinary. Good actors like Anupam Kher and Amrish Puri are reduced to mere caricatures due to poor quality of dialogues. Abusive language is used unnecessarily in some of the scenes. Characterisation is very weak. Overall handling of the film make you feel as if you are watching a B grade movie with A grade stars.

If you read the plot I have discussed above can you tell me where does Shilpa Shetty fit in the story ? She is shown as a bar dancer, Jannat, who loves Arjun Ranawat. She has tied a ring around her neck and waits for the day when Arjun will put the ring on her finger. Shilpa is in this film only for songs and dances. The music of the film is nothing to write home about. The songs and dances leave you irritated.

There is one scene which was intended to be serious but which left me laughing. When Haidar Ali is accused of siding with criminals by the Commissioner Deshpande, he screams YAAAAAAAAAHHHH and rips of his shirt to show bullet marks on his chest. Instead of those antics the dialogue writer could have used some meaningful lines to put the point across.

All in all Garv can be summed up as good intentions and wrong actions.

Nothing to be GARV about.

Garv is the directorial debut of Punit Isaar ,perhaps best known as the man who nearly killed Amitabh Bachan during the filming of Coolie. So does Garv deliver the same knockout punch ?

The story, told mostly in flashback, is a fascist wet dream. With rising crime in Mumbai, Police Commissioner, Amrish Puri, with the blessing of the Chief Minister forms a crack squad of ?encounter specialist? cops headed by Salman Khan who deliver lethal justice to the cities mobsters.

However the Dubai based underworld Don ,(Dawood Ibrahim anyone ?), Mukesh Rishi fights back and topples the government installing his own puppet Chief Minister and sets about targeting the cops. Salman goes on a killing spree and ends up in prison facing the death penalty. Can he clear his name or will he end up the same way as the mobsters he was targeting ?

Unfortunately, by this time the audience would have stopped caring. This type of film has been done many times before, and better. The main problem lies with the script and performances of the cast. The situations are clichéd and predictable comprising a series of endless shootouts and verbal standoffs between the ?good guys? and the ?bad guys?. Salman Khan in the leading role looks the part of the tough cop but is let down by his bland dialogue delivery and expressionless face. Isaar gives him plenty of scope to flex his well-toned pecs, (plenty of topless scenes for the ladies), but the character is so poorly fleshed out that he ends up looking robotic.

Arbaaz Khan?s Muslim cop has shades of Rajnikant?s character in Giraftar. However he doesn?t have the charm or gravitas to pull it off and his long drawn out ?sacrifice? scene induces yawns rather than tears. Mukesh Rishi, usually very good at hamming it up in these kind of roles, abandons traditional acting in favour of flaring his nostrils and giving piercing eye stares. Govind Namdeo does a good impression of Laloo Prasad. The rest of the cast just look miserable.

Special mention has to be made of Shilpa Shetty who has truly put the cause of women in Hindi films back 30 years , appearing only intermittently throughout the film to deliver tacky scantily dressed dance numbers. Is it just me or is she starting to resemble Michael Jackson these days ? Even Helen was given meatier roles than this one back in the 1970?s.

Another annoying aspect of the film is the ?Vande Mataram? type background music that fails to give it the intended ?epic feel? and instead adds to the bleak atmosphere.

This film has nothing new to offer to a well-worn genre. Punit Isaar?s direction is solid and he looks to have real promise but needs better material than this to work with in future.

Mumbai India
BUlging biceps and pelvic thrusts
Jul 30, 2004 03:58 PM4275 Views

Alas..!! pride ( whatever it is attributed to .. nation, police, family , individual) has become so silly and vulgar to display on the screen. Still pondering about the plot. No head , no tail and not even the middle.

As GB Shaw said. There are only three things bad about this (story) movie ; the beginning , the middle and the end.

No one knows why Shilpa Shetty is there in the first place. Looks like a last minute patch added to the movie for generous skin show ( to be later published in the TOI and such ) and sensuous pelvic thrusts.

Todate, I did not understand the sanity of having such heavy and outrageously stupid dialogues ( or monologues) ..reminds you of that ' Kutte .. tere khoon pee jaoonga' type.

Salman is a saving grace in Garv with his improved dialogue delivery and good performance. Whats the pride. If I understand it correctly, the plot is more around a revenge than any thing even remotely to do with pride. A dud..!!

Garv - A disaster
Jul 17, 2004 10:00 PM4581 Views

I must confess that I am fairly selective about the movies that I watch. For some strange reason I decided to watch Garv, and honestly it was a pain to watch.

Opening Scene(almost) shows Salman being thrashed by Police and no impact at all.... I think this is a straight take from one of the Dharam paaji movies from early 90s.... mard ko dard nahin hota.

The dialogues are simply awful. ''Agli baar mardon ki baarat mein hijdon ki toli mat bhjena'' is just one example.

Spoiler Alert: The story goes that Salamn Khan is a police officer who is in the Encounter Squad of Mumbai police and there is a dopn in Dubai who controls everything. So the don gets pissed and pays of the opposition leader to break the government. The opposition leader becomes Chief minister and basically makes life of squad hard. And finally for some reason the goons decide to rape Salman's sister and he kills 18 people as a result.

Now for the comedy scenes bible:

  • All the goones shall fire one at a time, giving enough time to Salman to kill 20 of them at the same time.

  • 500 tonnes of RDX shall explode but the people sitting 20 meters away shall be safe and still in good enough shape to fight it out.

  • The dialogues will be made as cheesy as possible. I mean I can't even get myself to relive the nightmare to remember them.

  • Besides the whole sister thing is way too unrealistic... so a sister will let the brother die because she doesn't want to tell everyone that she was raped?

So to conclude, watch this movie if you don't have anything better to do, and when I say anything, I mean anything.

What is there to be PROUD of???
Jul 12, 2004 02:56 AM8508 Views

These days,Bollywood filmmakers are obsessed with cop films. Recently, we had ?Khakee?,?Ab Tak 56?,?Aan-Men At Work? and ?Dev?. Another film which can be added to the list is Garv-Pride & Honour. Last year, Cinevistaas, the producers of this film came with a flop called ?Sssshhh? but this time they are expecting a BIG hit. Bollywood is also expecting a hit through this film.

After a successful 2003,with films like ?Tere Naam? and ?Baghban?, actor Salman Khan is back in this film. The excellent publicity and hype for this film has excited lots of viewers but the bitter truth is that this film has nothing exciting to offer.

THE FILM:

Cinevistaas Ltd. ?Garv-Pride and Honour?, directed by Punit Isaar, stars Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Amrish Puri, Akanksha Malhotra, Anupam Kher, Govind Namdeo, Shivaji Satam, Mukesh Rishi and Anant Jog. This film is one of the hottest release, nowadays, but does it have anything special and different? No! Here the film fails.

THE CHARACTERS AND THE PERFORMANCES:

1.Arjun Ranawat(Salman Khan):Arjun Ranawat is an honest person. He is a very hard-working cop and the best son/brother which any mother/sister could have asked for but circumstances bring him into such a situation that he loses the respect he once had.

Salman Khan, does a good job as an honest cop and his fans will definitely love him,but the film is very boring and those people who want to see him as a romantic guy of ?Tere Naam? will be disappointed. However, Salman Khan gives his best performance to this film. He does all what Salman fans expect him to do-speak politely, using filmi dialogues, acting as an ideal son and (of course!!!) taking off his shirt! There are fewer plus points in this film than the minuses and one of the plus points of this film is undoubtedly Salman Khan`s performance!

2.Hyder Ali(Arbaaz Khan): Hyder Ali is another honest and a sincere cop. He is the only Muslim cop,in the Mumbai Police force, but his loyalty towards his work is exemplary. Though,he is a Musli he doesn`t forget that he is an Indian, especially he doesn`t forget that he is a cop. Arbaaz Khan, also performs very well. The role of an honest cop, suits him very well. He does a good job in the scene where he is asked for a job transfer only because he is a Muslim. Let's expect to see more of him in future, in films such as ?Taj Mahal-An Eternal Love Story?, and also in better films.

3.Jannat(Shilpa Shetty):Jannat is a bar dancer, who sets the dance bar on fire, every night through her dance and through her body exposure. She is Arjun Ranawat's love. Shilpa Shetty, makes a terrible comeback, where she has to look beautiful, sexy and has to dance well. There is absolutely no need for showing acting talents.I wonder why didn't they put a ?special appearance? above her name,in the starting titles. In these male-dominated films, these days, women are being terribly wasted. Take,?Deewaar?, for instance, where such a talented young actress Amrita Rao was terribly wasted but hey,Bollywood films NEED such babes, to fulfill certain requirements. Let`s hope to see Shilpa Shetty in a role of substance in her next film ?Phir Milenge?.

4.Samar Singh(Amrish Puri):Samar Singh, is the one who leads the Police force. He is a brave and an honest man,who is Arjun Ranawat`s and Hyder Ali`s ideal. Amrish Puri does what he has been doing since so many years and that is-shouting and making serious face expressions. He looks really tired. Why not give him a new role? I hope that filmmakers think this way.

Akanksha Malhotra as Arjun Ranawat`s sister Rakhi, does a fine job.She has a meatier role than Shilpa Shetty and she manages to give a passable performance. Farida Jalal as Arjun`s so-called mother (who adopts Arjun Ranawat) plays a VERY exaggerated role of a ?typical? Bollywood Ma!She has done this several times, making sad face expressions and acting as if she is very helpless. How boring! Now,let`s come to the bad guys. Anupam Kher as a corrupt lawyer does a good job,but I wonder why he made a comeback through this film? Govind Namdeo as a corrupt Chief Minister does nothing special.Actually,he gets on your nerves. Mukesh Rishi is even more irritating,as an underworld don.He makes such scary face expressions that one cannot explain in words. He reminds you of his old films, which were released during the 90s and that`s seriously annoying! Shivaji Satam has a constipated look,on his face, throughout the film.

THE STORY:

The film starts with a person called Arjun Ranawat, who has been blamed for 18 murders.Everyone wants him to be hanged till death. For Arjun, now there is no need for life, anymore. He clearly declares that he wants to die, without any justification. Arjun Ranawat, the person, whom people are looking with hatred and disrespect, today, was once a very honest and respectable cop. Arjun Ranawat was very sincere towards his job,and he was one of the most brilliant police inspector the Mumbai police Force ever.He used to live happily with his mother and sister Rakhi. He had a friend, Hyder Ali,who was also a cop.Along with Hyder Ali, he went against the underworld dons and corrupt politicians. Both of them were ready to remove the dirt which was caused by such underworld dons and corrupt police offers and politicians. Little did they know, that this would lead them to so many difficulties which can force them to die. These dons and corrupt people kill Hyder Ali and bring harm to Arjun Ranawat`s mother and newly married sister. Why did Arjun Ranawat kill 18 people? Will, Arjun Ranawat, do something to prove himself right, or will he end up as a loser and die?

THE WORK OF THE CREW:

Puneet Isaar`s misdirection,oh sorry?.directionis one of the biggest flaws of the movie. The serious and action scenes in this film end up looking hilarious. The scene where Shivaji Satam, tells Hyder Ali about his job transfer only because he is a Muslim is really strange.Hyder Ali gets too angry and screams ?YAAAAAAAAAAA?and opens his shirts` buttons. That was too much![Though,Arbaaz Khan acted well there].Another stupid scene is the one where Arjun Ranawat gets angry at the lawyer (Anupam Kher),and comes out of his box and starts beating the lawyer in the court(!!!).The most hilarious scene which will make you laugh no end is the one where Rakhi describes in the court, how she was raped by the underworld dons.Rape is not a joke, but in this film,it has been treated as if there is nothing serious about it.However,it was really funny watching the gangsters laugh and Rakhi scream, whil she is being raped.(LOL!).So,the director just fails to create an impact on the viewers. Also, the actors (except for Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan),do what they have done for several times,in the past.No extra-ordinary performance.

Arjun Ranawat naam hai mera
Jul 10, 2004 01:24 PM10446 Views

''Arjun Ranawat naam hai mera. Main maut ko takiya aur kafan ko chadar banaakar odta hoon... jai hind''..... This and other dialogues are on which the film Garv: Pride and Honour (earlier called Sangharsh) rests.

The Story

The film is all about ''Ma. Po. Se.''... Maharastra Police Seva(Force).

Arjun Ranawat(Salman Khan) and Hyder Ali Khan(Arbaaz Khan) are two brave police officers who under the leadership of Commissioner Samar Singh(Amrish Puri), decides to take the law in their own hands in order to teach the underworld dons a lesson. As usual, this angers certain individuals who are associated with the underworld gangs. But things take a different turn when the underworld don played by Mukesh Rishi changes the state government for Rs.60 crores and the commissioner gets

transferred. Salman's mother(Farida Jalal) and sister Rakhi(Akanksha) are targeted by the gangsters. Salman decides to take revenge, but because of one dreaded reason doesn't want to... he wants death instead.

Stars, Cast and Performance

Debut director Punit Issar already had Salman in mind while writing the film, and Salman hasn't let him down. Bulging biceps, ever increasing delts and lats and good dialogue delivery has made him apt for the role. Arbaaz Khan also played his part well. He plays the best buddy of Salman in the film.

Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, Mukesh Rishi... all delivered well. Others such as Kulbushan Kharbanda, Govind Namdeo and Shivaji Satam was also good. Farida Jalal was at her best playing mom to Sallu and Akanksha. But Akanksha needs to tone up her acting.... And the biggest ''surprise'' of the film was indeed Shilpa Shetty. I had

earlier read in the previews that she plays the female protagonist, but I can hardly remember a single dialogue of hers. She was there only for songs and dances... the one thing she does best!!!

Good Points

The movie scores well in camera effects, music, songs, dialogues, action and power-packed performances by the cast. The item number by Reshma Bombaywalla is also nice to see. Sajid-Wajid and Anu Malik has done a good job... almost all the songs are nice and hummable(as claimed by Punit Issar).

Not-so-Good Points

The movie falls flat in story. Its the same old masala story....hindu-muslim, police force, underworld mafia, family drama, and of course much of dhishum-dhishum !!!! No new turn to the story.

Overall

Being Issar's directorial debut, this is a rather good work. Editing and direction were upto the mark. This is a typical hardcore commercial film. But due to too much of actions, it is not for the weak-hearted. Some hardcore dialogues also makes it a non-family film.

The film is a must-see for all Salman fans. Its all about Salman. From bodybuilding in open lawns to dancing at bars to fighting crimes, Salman's all-in-all.

GARV --- pride n honour
Jul 10, 2004 11:46 AM4279 Views

Hi friends ,

Garv is an average kind of movie which will be liked by sallu miya's fan. Movie plot is very weak n direction hopeless. Story goes like this that sallu is an inspector in mumbai police and he is very honest and determined person n aarbaz khan is hyder ali khan his friend n colloque in police force.

They try to sort out bad ppl from the society. He finds that politicians r involved in underworld connections. This creates problem for his family. underworld don supari kidnappes his sister rakhi dikshit ( sallu's name is arjun ranawat .... cross relation ) and they gang raped here in thier farm house. When arjun came to know this he kills all politicians n criminals involved in this gangrape which results to his arrest and charges of gaddar n so on ... he is put behind the bars. But later he is proved innocent n criminals are put behind the bars.

What I suggest is not the waste time n money for such movie. So enjoy watching movie ... n ya always in multiplexes.
