Don’t waste your time

I rented this movie on youtube and I did not like this movie at all. There were so many loopholes in this movie. How did police find out after 12 years that arjun is living as a broker. Why does the policemen want arjun to help his friends to end the life of crime. Why shekhar killed his own brother but not his friend who was mole. The answers to these question are not in movie. Avoid it and watch something else.

I didn't enjoy ! Bad screenplay, full of flaws and

I was looking for this movie for like 9 months online and I finally found yesterday and I watched it. After watching the movie I wasn't surprised coz there was nothing in the movie that would make you wonder or entertain.

Emraan hashmi is the only one who entertains you through the movie, but he dies in the movie which is really sad. The songs were ok. There's nothing else in the movie. I would rate this movie 2/5

Emraan Haashmi's first step on the silver screen
Aug 17, 2014 04:20 AM5443 Views

Emraan Haashmi is one of the popular heroes(though not in the league of the Khans or the Deols) of Bollywood today. Footpath(2003) is his debut movie which was made by his uncles Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt as his launchpad only and it was released on the Independence Day of India that had come eleven years back, i.e., on 15.08.2003. I had watched it in the Om Cine Plex at Kota on 17.08.2003 which was Sunday. I had gone to watch it mainly because of its songs because I had listened to its music album containing some beautiful compositions of Nadeem Shravan and I had liked them very much. That liking only led me to watch the movie also.

Footpath is nothing but one of the many Bollywood versions of Hollywood movie - Angels with Dirty Faces(1938). Mahesh Bhatt himself had directed one of such versions which was Angaaray(1998) taking Akshay Kumar in lead role and Naagarjuna in second lead. He wrote the script of Footpath with the same basic grains alongwith some borrowing from another Hollywood movie - State of Grace(1990) but handed over the duty to direct the movie to Vikram Bhatt. Aaftaab Shivdaasaani has been cast in the lead role(done by Akshay Kumar in Angaaray) and debutante Emraan Haashmi has been taken in the second lead. Another associated but meaty role has gone to Raahul Dev. Well, when there are males, females are also needed as their love interest. So Bipasha Basu, Aparna Tilak and Anupama Verma are there as the leading ladies.

Foothpath is the story of three friends who get separated in childhood due to an incident that concluded with the murder of a person. Out of these three friends, two are real brothers having a sister also who likes the friend of her brothers very much. This bloody incident has taken place in Mumbai in which the friend of the brothers and the sister has already lost his father. Being an orphan now, he runs away from the city itself and grows up as Arjun(Aaftaab Shivdaasani). Twenty years have passed since then and Arjun is living the straight life of a law-abiding citizen in Delhi when a cop(Anup Soni) meets him and pressurizes him to do the job of an undercover agent of the police against his childhood buddies who are outlaws and still operate in Mumbai as drug-dealers.

A reluctant Arjun moves to Mumbai and meets his childhood buddies Shekhar(Raahul Dev) and Raghu(Emraan Haashmi) who work for a big narcotics smuggler Sheikh(Irrfaan). He happens to meet their sister Sanjana(Bipasha Basu) also who lives separately from her brothers because of not liking their illegal activities. The childhood love of Arjun and Sanjana gets rekindled on one hand and Arjun tries to draw his friends out of the quagmire of crime. In case of Raghu who is more sensitive and emotion-led, he succeeds because of Raghu's love for an English teacher(Aparna Tilak) who loses her brother because of his being a drug-addict. However Shekhar is not that sensitive and Arjun fails in bringing him out of the world of crime. The story ends with the union of Arjun and Sanjana after the elimination of the drug smuggling racket running in Mumbai as well as the deaths of Shekhar and Raghu.

This story of an undercover agent working against his own friends has been hackneyed like anything in Bollywood. Only a good and engaging script written for this another version of Angels With Dirty Faces would have succeeded in appealing to the audience. Unfortunately, neither the script, nor the direction is up to the mark in case of Footpath. The movie has its moments but overall, it fails to impress the viewer. All the characters of the movie appear to be artificial. All the incidents shown in the movie appear to be completely filmy. None of the three romantic angles has been developed properly. Hence this movie can be sit through and enjoyed only when the viewer watches it with a low expectation.

The biggest flaw that I found in the script and the direction of this movie that Arjun takes an easier path. He keeps on pursuing Raghu, the sensitive one to leave the wrong path but doesn't make even the smallest effort for pursuing money-minded and insensitive Shekhar to mend his ways.

Music is one of the plus points of the movie. As said earlier, I was instigated to see this movie only by certain songs of the movie. One good song - Chain Aapko Mila Mujhe Deewangi Mili is only in the album and not in the movie(interestingly, it was used in another movie - Hungama released in 2003 itself). Saari Raat Teri Yaad Mujhe Aati Rahi, Kitna Pyara Pyara Hai Sama, Zara Dekh Mera Deewaanapan, Ab Samajh Aaya Ki Duniya Kya Hai etc. are quite good to ears. Their picturization is also okay.

Technically, the movie is so-so. Its length is definitely on the higher side. Girish Dhamija has written routine dialogs for it.

Emraan Haashmi has drawn his heart out for this debut movie of himself. He has delivered a very touching and impressive performance, giving signals that he's the horse of a long race. All others including my favourite heroine Bipasha Basu and highly talented Irrfaan are, unfortunately, just routine. TV actress Aparna Tilak has played Emraan's love interest. This is the only appearance of hers on the big screen(never acted in any other movie). Though she has got a meaty role, she hasn't been able to impress. Anupama Verma has played Shekhar's love interest in this movie and her role appears to be that of a glorified extra. Aaftaab Shivdaasaani is miscast in the lead role.

Though this movie was made as the launchpad of Emraan Haashmi, no importance was given to him in its publicity and complete focus of the promotion was kept on Aaftaab and Bipasha only. This also went against the movie. It badly flopped on the box office.

I had watched it on 17.08.2003, i.e., exactly eleven years from today and I remember that day because when coming back from Kota to Rawatbhata on my beloved scooter, I was caught in the heavy rainfall in the evening hours and I had to cover final 3-4 kilometers(out of the total distance of 50 kilometres) on foot also(dragging my scooter by my hands) amidst darkness, heavy rain and muddy roads.

With my rating of 2.5 stars, I recommend Footpath as a one time watch to those who like the music of Nadeem Shravan as well as to diehard Emraan Haashmi fans.

I wasn’t sure on which stupid movie I would first write a review on – so I chose this one!

hehe

When will Vikram Bhattrealize that it was pure luck that RAAZ was a HIT !

None of his movies after that one are worth a watch…i.e. AMALG, Gunaah, and now FootPath.

Movie’s motto is “Love, Friendship, Betrayal,”

People are supposed to be loved and things are to be used...but when we love things and use people...Life is hell!

FOOTPATH is about 3 friends who are best friends.

Aftab a.k.a Arjun :: A nice guy, innocent guy. Values Friendship & Love

Imraan a.k.a Raghu :: “Tapori” kind guy, has a bad temper. Values Friendship

Rahul Dev a.k.a Shakhar:: Head of the gang, very cruel. Values Money ! Betrayal written all over him.

Then meet the unnecessary sex-symbols in the movie

Bipasha :: Sister of Raghu & Shakhar, She has disowned her bros…cause of the the business (bad) things they do. She is just an ultra modern (short-short skirts) gal in a small Colony.

Other Heroin :: (Can’t rem. Her name) She is pretty good in a small role of hers.

Movie is about three childhood friends - 2 of them whom become gangster and one who tries to leave the “poor” life comes back to save his friendship and return to his love.

That is like the best way I could put the movie’s concept.

::..! Some Thoughts of Mine on the Movie !..::

::..Aftab can act a little but poor guy’s voice just doesn’t sound right…its not strong enough!

::..Imran is pretty good actor “oye, marna hai to idher maar…apun ko hero kei mafik marna hai”

::..Music is really not that great…just one song “Saari Raat Teri Yaad”

::..Bipasha Basu is again as a “slut”. I wish she would stop using the phrases : “My role in the movie is a very strong one…and It’s a very different role, I love acting.”

::..Bipasha needs to realize that the so called “acting” she says is not defined by being half naked and having “sexual” scenes with a guy.

::..Vikram Bhatt needs to get over this “Bipasha Fever” ..and get some new actress & new concepts (quit copying from Hollywood)!

::..Surprisingly, Rahul Dev keeps on surprising me with his acting skills…he is pretty good!

::..Story of the movie is very “clichéd” & awful!

::..Movie is full of unnecessary songs, useless scenes, stupid actress (i.e Bipasha).

::..I still can’t belive that Aftab can survive the huge rod in his body + some kicks by Rahul Dev + thrown on to a running car and still survives…hmmm… wah! Bollywood !

::.. Overall, this movie is full of cons…no pros

I’ll suggest u not wasting ur time in such trash …and instead will tell u to go watch Rules or any other movies”..::

::..Bhumi..::

P.s :: If people on “FootPath” dress so vulgar and in “expensive” dresses…wow we all must be Millionaires…!!

The Planning -

It was raining at the rate of 10 Liters/hour/Km/Min and we decided it was movie time .We virtually had to swim our way to the movie hall, reached 10 mins late (we are not fish , we can swim fast , walk faster).

Bhaishahab movie...abhi 5 min pehle suru hue hai aur story maat pochna...Ok boss. The movie hall called Ram-bharose by one and all here had a pathetic sound-system and we had to virtually reply on lip-reading .So for me it was like watching a english-movie,saw 100% understood 30% (waise ye aander ki baat hai , not to be disclosed).

The storyline -

Ye kahani hai Sanker,Raghu aur Arjun Singh (SARS) ki ,which reminds you of the SARS epidemic, trust me the movie is no less. All three are childhood , footpathic friends ,bachpan ke dost .Raghu helps Arjun take revenge (khoon ka badla khoon) upon his father's khoni..later Arjun flees to Delhi .

12 years later..police still after him..hum tumko maaf kar denge but you will have to help us catch the drug-pedlers..Arjun wants to reform his friends who are by now big-time bhais..so he says yes.

A.S : Face pe maat maar, I want to die handsome.

Raghu : Arjun tu !! mere dost mere bhai..kahan tha re tu !!.

Senti dialogues & a song.

Oh yes, Bips stays away from her brothers as they did 'ganda dhanda'.Arjun loved her , bachpan se hi , probably because she was the only one around.

A.S : I still love you because there's still no one around.

Bips : Tum bade 'wo' ho.

Senti dialogues & a song.

Though Raghu is a trigger-happy guy ,uske paas bhi ek dil hai .He loves English Madam ('phoren' girl nahi , The one who taught english).

Raghu : Madam , ab aapko koi pareshan nahi karega.

madam : ...

Senti dialogues & a song.

Shanker lands up in trouble because of his raghu all the time kyunki wo madam ke chakker mein 'panga'leta rehta hai .Madam's brother enjoys watching 'Mujra'in beer-bars.raghu gives him a 'kaan ke niche' and vows to reform him .

Raghu : Madam touched my hand. Touch-me-not.

A.S : 'Haan tumne bhi pyar kiya'.

Senti dialogues & a song.

Police keep pestering AS.He vows to reform his friends.

Bips : Main MAA banne wale hu (Announcement of the decade).

AS : Mubarak ho !! phir toh tum filmoon mein kaam nahi karoge ab ?

Bips : Select , either they or me .

AS : Chahe hamare bachee ko marna pade i'll be with my friends(Irrelevent statement of the Decade).

Bips : Cry me a river.

Senti dialogues & a song.

Madam's brother dies of excessive intake of 'brawn-suger'.Raghu repents & revolts .Decides to bring an end to this 'paap ki duniya'.

Big Boss : Shanker if you wanna become the king you will have to kill your brother ,ye main nahi kehta itihaas mein likha hai , na koi marta hai na koi marta hai..

Shanker : Yo boss.

Note : We also have a super Big Boss, Mr 10%. watch out to find out.

Raghu dies. Madam,AS and Bips cry in unision.Phir kya hona tha, the usual stuff.

Pros :

The newcomer Emraan Hashmi is the main attraction and is the only saving grace .The movie truly belongs to him . He got the best part and did justice. Watch him out he is simply superb in the scenes especially with Aparna Tilak (Madam) and Aftab .The movie is avoidable but you can watch it for Emraan.Aftab & Rahul Dev too have done justice to their roles .

Cons :

Vikram Bhat was never a good director . He needs 'inspiration' to make good movies , remember Gulam, kasoor,Raaz otherwise he ends up making a 'aap mujhe aache lagne lage'.His direction is lacklusture and the movie seems like going no where at times .Nadeem-Shravan's Music is just recycled version of their previous hits.Editing is poor .

Mahesh Bhat rewrote his movie (he made a movie Saathi in early 90s with the same story , small-time crooks making it big,drug-addict brother & a friend trying to reform his childhood friend.Though Saathi was a good movie Foothpath is simply pathetic.

Born on the streets of fire!

With a blockbuster film like ''Tere Naam'',the other film which released was ''Footpath''!This is the film by Mahesh Bhatt, the maker of successful films like ''Raaz'',and ''Jism''!This time he is back, but has disappointed us!The reasons are plenty! He has his favourite actor,Bipasha Basu, over here and also Aftaab Shivdasani, whom he made more successful by making ''Kasoor''!There is no point,I see why Mr.Mahesh Bhatt and Vikram Bhatt made this film! But now, that it has been made,I SHOULD,write a review on it!So here it is..........

THE FILM:

Tips films,''Footpath, directed by Vikram Bhatt, stars Aftab Shivdasani,Bipasha Basu,Rahul Dev,Anupamam Verma,Irfaan with two newcomers,Emraan Hashmi and Aparna Tilak!Vikram Bhatt, was the one,who along with Mahesh Bhatt and Tips films, made the biggest blockbuster of 2002,''Raaz'' and this time also something special was expected, but what you get is a DISAPPOINTMENT!

THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:

1.Arjun(Aftab Shivdasani):Arjun`s childhood best friends were,Raghoo and Shekhar. He played on footpath, with these friends!Everything was fine in his life, but one day, something very bad happened! His father got murdered, and being Arjun`s best friend,Raghoo helped Arjun and killed the person who killed Arjun`s father. From then,he was sent to Delhi, because the police was after him!It was so,because everyone believed, that he murdered the person, who killed his father!After,12 years, when he grew up,and changed his identity, the police got in his house and ordered him to help them. The order was, that he had to get Raghoo and Shekhar arrested, because they were drug dealers and suppliers! This is Arjun`s problem, that how will he land his best pals into trouble!Aftab Shivdasani,is a brilliant actor! He has already impressed, everyone,by his work in ''Darna Mana Hai'',but in this film,he doesn`t get that much of scope! It is Emraan Hashmi, who steals the show.Nevertheless, whatever Aftab has done is also fantastic, but not excellent!

2.Shekhar(Rahul Dev):Shekhar,is a gangster, who loves his friend Arjun and his brother Raghoo, but he is also stone-hearted!He supplies drugs! He is forced to do something very bad,and what is it???Rahul Dev,as the gangster, has not so much to perform! His presence,is not felt throughout!I would still say, that he does his bit well, but he isn`t great, because at some places,he seems disinterested!

3.Raghoo(Emraan Hashmi):Raghoo,is a very sensitive and an emotional person! He is a gangster and killing people is not a big deal for him, still somewhere,in him, love is there hidden too!His love for his friend, for his brother and for his girlfriend!Emraan Hashmi, has given the best performance in this film! This film clearly belongs to him! This is the best launch pad, anyone could have, but how one wishes, that the film could have been better! This is a very powerful performance by this debutante!A performance to look out for!

4.Sanjana(Bipasha Basu):Sanjana was Arjun`s childhood friend! She loved him, till her childhood! When Arjun left for Delhi, she all the time used to think about him and missed him,and one fine day,he returns back in her life!Bipasha Basu, has no role in the film at all!She is repeating what she has done in all the Mahesh Bhatt films!Acting sexy, adding glamour and looking sexy!I don`t know why her voice has to be dubbed in every Mahesh Bhatt film? Her performance is also, always the same,in Mahesh Bhatt`s film!In Raaz, she was the same,in Gunaah, she was the same,in Jism, she was the s(h)ame, and now in Footpath, too, she is the same!I don`t know, when will Mr.Bhatt, find that she is talented and there is more to her than skin! And also,I don`t like, the way she breathes, all the time,to look sexy!It doesn`t look sexy but cheap!

5.Shalini(Aparna Tilak):Shalini is a very simple, girl, who lives in an appartment, with her brother! She teaches English and is a very sad person in life, because of her brother, who drinks and goes to bars,to see mujras! She later falls in love with Raghoo, when he makes her brother a good person and helps Shalini, this way!Aparna Tilak,is not so glamorous but acts well,in her small role! Her scenes with Emraan, will definitely entertain you!

Anupama Verma, looks so ill and sick, that all her skull outline can be seen, and when she talks, her collar bones are coming out!She is so skinny!Irfaan, doesn`t impress much!

THE STORY:

Arjun,Raghoo and Shekhar, are the best friends,in their childhood! One day,Arjun`s father is killed by a gangster! Now,to take revenge,Raghoo, kills the murderer of Arjun`s father, being a TRUE friend(this is what I call FRIENDSHIP!SMILES).Now,everyone believes, that it was Arjun who killed that person,so Arjun escapes to Delhi. After 12 years, when he grows up,the police comes to his house one night, and he is frightened, that they may not arrest him,but they are not there to arrest him!The thing is that they want him to help them and that is-he has to get his childhood friends,Raghoon and Shekhar arrested because they are drug dealers and suppliers! Will,Arjun do so?Will he betray his freinds???

THE WORK OF THE CREW:

Vikram Bhatt`s,direction is the weakest film!He has made the most dull film of the year! This film seems to be very BORING!!!!The film starts, with strange characters, doing strange things and also has a very abrupt ending!Especially, the climax!I failed to understand, why Aftab didn`t die, after being beaten up so much!!!Why Shekhar killed his own brother,I didn`t get to know the reason!I don`t know, what was the director upto, whil this film was being made???Screenplay,is totally senseless! When you are viewing the film,in between you feel that some reels are mixed....or WHAT!Editing,is really loose! The second half and the climax drag so much, that you feel like just getting out of the cinema hall!Cinematographyis of top class! Background music,is great!Nadeem_Shravan`s,music is good!Songs like ''Saari Raat teri yaad'',''Kitna Pyaara Pyaara'' and ''Mahiya ve'',have good tunes! But hey,I recommend this film to adults because some songs are REALLY VULGAR!!!

CONTINUED IN THE 12th COMMENT OF COMMENTS SECTION!!!

Footpath Movie Review
Aug 17, 2003 02:23 PM4654 Views

We guess director Vikram Bhatt has decided to give a dud with every alternate film. The successful Raaz was followed by the tepid Aap Mujhe Acche Lagne Lage, which in turn was followed by the box-office friendly Awara Paagal Deewana, and now Footpath. So you know what we are getting at.

Arjun (Aftab Shivdasani) is a dear friend of brothers Shekhar Shrivastav (Rahul Dev) and Raghu Shrivastav (newcomer Emraan Hashmi). Arjun and Raghu share a special bond; they both are 'khasamkhas yaars'. In their childhood, Raghu had stabbed the killer of Arjun's father and helped him to elope to Delhi. Years later, Arjun who now works as an estate agent is sought out by Inspector Singh (Anoop Soni) to help him in his mission to nab the two Shrivastav brothers who have now grown up into Mumbai's drug dealers. Singh feels that Arjun can infiltrate into the gang and help the cops reach the drug Kingpin, Shaikh (Irfaan Khan). Arjun takes up the offer in the hope of rehabilitating his friends. Everything goes as per plan till one day during a dealing, Singh's associate tries to do an 'encounter' of the two brothers. Raghu starts smelling foul. Shaikh in the meanwhile informs Shekhar about Arjun's hand-in-glove-with-the-cops mission. Now, it's up to Shekhar to decide how to save his own skin. He tells Raghu about Arjun's truth and asks him to bump him off. Raghu fails and so Shekhar decides to kill his own brother instead. A 'bloody' climax follows in which Shekhar too dies and Arjun despite all the battering manages to survive clutching childhood memories.

Oh, yes and there are two ladies too. There is Sanjana (Bipasha Basu), Shirvastavs' sister and Arjun's girlfriend and a teacher (Aparna Tilak) who wants to reform the ruffians through her English-speaking classes (since when has English-speaking become the sole criterion for 'good behaviour'?). She's also Raghu's sweetheart.

Mahesh Bhatt has written Footpath and it deals with drugs, an issue which somehow seems to be very outdated. After all, the same Bhatt had directed the immensely moving story of two brothers (Sanjay Dutt and Kumar Gaurav) in a film called Naam, which incidentally dealt with drugs. Vikram's enterprise is slow and has hardly any emotional moments. He fails to make his characters rise above the script. As an audience, one can hardly empathize with the three friends, rather you feel indifferent to the goings-on. Worse, the screenplay is cliché-ridden and the performances just about pass muster. While Aftab tries to play the Good Samaritan with ease, Rahul's menacing powers lose steam after a point. It's tiring to see Bipasa in skimpy clothes and sexy clinches, yet again. It's then left to Emraan Hashmi to make his debut a confident one.

As for the other departments, Robin Bhatt's cinematography is hardly award material while Nadeem-Shravan's music has that 'have-I-heard-this-one-before' feel to it. Gappa Chakraborty's creation of 'footpath' looks more like cardboard cutouts than Mumbai's real picture.

All said and done, do not walk on this Footpath, chances are you may be run over!
