Dhoom 3 Movie Reviews

BHadoom - 3
Dec 23, 2013 08:50 PM 3618 Views (via Mobile)

Review Time: DHOOM 3

Not sure why I went  for this movie.  Aamir - never after what he did in  Talaash  . Music - not so great. Trailer - not that impressive. I think this was coz there was  no other movie to watch and excitement of writing a review of big movie(lot of people will watch this) dragged me to Cinemax

Before even entering in theatre(some how multiplex sounds artificial) I was sure it is only Aamir who is going to Dhoom. After waiting for some 10 minutes and 15 to 20  advertisements finally movie started.

Bidu  movie starts with emotions of  Jaggu dada and tricks of chottu aamir. Aamir grows up to perfectionist( Oh  teri, yaar perfectionist to wo hai hi). Then comes synonyms to Dhoom Abhiskekh with trademark look(light beard, jeans, ray ban glasses and angry face) followed by chotte malik(Uday Chopra). Katrina played her role of dancing very well .

Aamir though dances but is very stiff, looks like he is delivering dialogues.  Aamir khan dancing with Katrina on songs suitable for Ranvir(kapoor or singh) looks very odd, man you look old. Pls don't do such things now.

Interval comes at a very interesting  note . However 2nd half is 2nd part of tare zameen par(watch the movie u will come to know). Movie slows down emotions takes over content and it becomes an ordinary bollywood movie.

Special effects are upside specially. Aamir running down from building. Watching Circus where  Aamir khan was performing was  like watching dance india dance. Now I know why that circus never took off.

Other than  few action sequences, movie disappoints. When I go for an Aamir movie I expect content and grasp, it was missing here(not fully but I  don't like Aamir performing in patches).

Speed which is speciality of a Dhoom series(I am not a big fan of this franchisee) was missing. Aamir khan being chased within city by. 20 - 30 police cars with no helicoptors to support and apna hero always gets away and punters from India always catch him to let him escape again - mazza nahi aaya.

Dhoom 3 is still better than those stupid remakes where apna hero beats hell out of 40 - 50 goons.

Beware of mind-numbing promotions!

Just read  somewhere on the net that ticket prices are hiked to Rs.900! 900? Seriously? For a movie like D3? YRF seems to be looting us!

Coming back to D3, the movie is suspense+ emotional drama+ confusion all over….

It starts off well but post interval keeps on dragging and dragging that it seems longer than 3 hrs.…  Twist after twist are added and after a point you want the end to come fast!

The story is about a thief who is super-intelligent as well as a great gymnast… How he escapes the police every time and how police(Read: Jai Dixit) comes up with a new plan to catch him is what makes D3. Also there is a lot of'why' added in between. Why the thief does all those robberies, what is the back story, etc. all this is also there.

D3 is intense movie! It is fun in some parts but mostly intense. Also, very emotionally draining. It is difficult to summarize the experience! It is good in parts but most of time it puts strain on you!

Story is confusing to the core! The romance angle between Aamir-Katrina is not used well. Romance ends just after it begins. So why was it kept in the first place? No answer to that.

One more thing that was not properly explained, was how did the thief rob the bank. How did he outsmart America's High Tech Security System and how could he so easily run away from American Police? It was not elaborated. That makes it hard to believe in the character!

Also, there is too much of Muslim protagonist vs. American Police, American Banks, etc. thing. It makes you wonder why was the need to put this angle? This is not a social message movie like My Name is Khan or New York!(Both are my favorite movies, though!) This is Dhoom. It was supposed to be fun, thrill and masala! But there is that angle here…

Dhoom 2 was much better… At least it never promised to go beyond time-pass entertainment!

As for other things, action sequences are good in 1st half… But in 2nd half, once the suspense is revealed, once the audience knows how the thief does those death defying stunts, the thrill kind of goes away…

Choreography is pathetic. Dancing(by Aamir and Katrina) is even more pathetic! Music is loud and gives a headache…Songs come at the most wrong times….

Aamir's acting is good as usual… but it is not at all entertaining! Aamir's character comes across as a scary guy! Too much of getting into the skin of character!

Uday is OK. Abhishek is actually good. He also looks awesome! I liked his role in this part. He is the only saving grace. But he does not have that much screen time. Aamir khan gets the most screen time and his act is the most torturing!

As for Katrina, all Katrina fans, beware! Katrina is just used as a showpiece…. she has very little screen time… and her dances are also very boring!(No comparison with Ash in Crazy Kiya Re! Aishwarya's dance was so so graceful!) I like Katrina but here she is completely wasted…

Apart from all this, there are many many drag moments… where you keep looking every where else but on screen!

So, basically, some individual pieces are good like Aamir's acting, Abhishek's acting, some part of script, some stunts, etc but when the pieces are put together it just fails to provide entertainment!

Wasted Rs. 500 to buy a headache! Literally! Last time this happened was for Tees Maar Khan! But at least we had fun laughing at the movie! D3 is too intense to laugh at! And we are only left with the torture!

Dhoom 3, if not crap, is just about average. And there is so much hype created by the makers that many people(like us) must have booked the tickets already. so YRF will get their money… BoxOffice records will be broken… 100cr, 200cr, and much more… But can the movie sustain beyond the initial hype?  That remains to be seen….

My rating: 2/5…

1 for AB & 1 for Some good sequences….

Bangalore India
The worst movie.
Dec 23, 2013 03:03 PM 3440 Views

Worst movie ever made in Bollywood!

Please do not waste time and money. Total waste movie. Never thought Aamir Khan will do such movies. Stupid stunts. Wheeling in autorickshaw. Hahah.

Its a comedy movie and not an action movie. Aamir khan is doing movies like Shahrukh khan. Katrina, as usual immature acting!. Abhishek Bacchan and Uday Chopra cant do good acting. They should leave Bollywood.

Slick stunts but a boring overdose of Aamir Khan.
Dec 23, 2013 01:19 PM 5107 Views

'Dhoom 3' should ideally be named 'Doom' as it is much unlike its predecessors. While the first 'Dhoom', 2004 set the standard as a film with bike stunts, the second film took the plot international in 2006 and reached new heights with Hrithik's villainous role and super-svelte Aishwarya Rai. The third edition takes the franchise downhill into the depths of boredom and seems like modeling portfolio of Aamir Khan.

For a wafer-thin plot that it has, here's the summary: Angered at the suicide by a circus owner(Jackie Shroff), his son Sahir (Aamir Khan) seeks revenge against the bank that mercilessly closed the circus. Since the thief scribbles 'tere aisi ki taisi' in Hindi after robbing banks, Chicago cops seek the help of Mumbai police to solve the crime.

And then enter ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and his funny side-kick Ali (Uday Chopra). It is worthwhile to note that the son of the angry-young-man still hasn't got a promotion in nine years since the first Dhoom film. The story then has a suspense(not revealed in the review) which isn't actually interesting and loads of action.

Aamir Khan's perfection lies exposed as nothing more than a publicity stunt and a sham. Throughout the film, he wears one of these two expressions: One, "I'm so serious", two, "I'm so smart" with that trademark smug smile of his. If you only see the actor and not the character he plays, I'd surely brand that as bad acting. And if you gave the star a benefit of doubt, one can say, he was miscast for the role.

Bachchan Junior and Uday Chopra are nothing more than mere props in the film  As the popular internet humor goes, they're there, thanks to 'Yash Raj Rozgar Yojana'. Not only the boys, the leading lady Katrina Kaif hardly has any role, barring a gratuitous strip-tease in' Kamli' to please Aamir so that he casts her in his'Great Indian Circus'.

The only man who has any role in the film is Aamir Khan who is present in almost every frame of the film. In a way, it reminded me of some Kamal Haasan's films where the self-obsessed star who is not much unlike Aamir has to be present in every scene. There is a sheer overdose of Aamir Khan, bordering on narcissism.

Another major irritant in the film is the oft repeated lines, sometimes with a tune, 'Bande hai hum.' that is supposed to bring out some sentimental connection with the antagonist's past. The only effect that is has on the audience is that of annoyance. The songs are extremely disappointing and the film suddenly breaks into a song when it is not needed at all. And yes, Aamir's tap dance is outright stupid.

Okay! the circus was supposedly closed down by the bank and auctioned. But how is it that it is still there so that our star can visit the place and relive the pains of his childhood? And how does he take revenge? By stealing the bank? C'mon, just before the sub-prime crisis, he could have just made them lend some ninja loans and invest in toxic assets and they would have gone down the drain anyway. Touché!

Dhoom 3 also happens to be very lengthy and tiresome. In fact, everything in the film after the interval is a waste. To some of my friends who said they got up and left mid-way, they surely didn't miss much. There's hardly anything enjoyable in the dialogues either, and it just some pathetic piece of writing in a predominantly action film.

What salvages Dhoom 2 are some well done stunts, although each stunt is needlessly slowed down. Cars blowing up in chase sequences are a staple and there's the usual Hollywood style helicopter chase. The transformation of the bike into a boat is cool, although somewhat inspired. Stylish stunts and the special effects are the only saving grace and the only thing worth something in 'Doom', err 'Dhoom 3'.

Verdict: The movie's plot involves stealing. Yes, they steal your money with expensive tickets. I can only sympathize with those who may have paid 900 bucks per ticket at IMAX. What a rip off, seriously! If you still want to watch it, catch a morning show and cut your losses. You may just enjoy your popcorn more than the film.

DHOOM 3 !!!
Dec 22, 2013 11:59 PM 5308 Views

The Loan Account of ‘The Great Indian Circus’ in Western Bank of Chicago became a Non-Performing Asset(NPA) for the Bank. On 1st December 1990, the employees of Western Bank of Chicago came to see the Circus. Mr. Anderson was not too impressed with the Circus. Mr. Haroon Iqbal Khan was given only 5 days to repay the outstanding dues. Apni ijjat apne haath mein hote hain hamesha. Yeh Circus meri zindagi hain aur tum chinh rahe ho isse. Bankwalo, tumhari aisi ki taisi. Someone pulled the trigger. Who watched the entire scene while hiding inside the box? Who started the journey towards heaven on 1st December 1990?

On a fine morning, a gentleman woke up to wear a black cap and uttered poetry. Bande hain hum uske, hum de kiska jor, ummeedo ke suraj, dheere dheere charo oar, iraade hain faulaadi, himmati har kadam, apne haaton kismat likhe, aaj jwale hain hum. The beggar sitting in front of the main gate of Western Bank of Chicago didn’t experience rainfall or snowfall but the US Dollarfall. The chase began. We got him. The biker showed the circus on the rope with the bike. Oh! Captain! You are never going to believe this!

The Tamil anti-socials of Ammanagar were not so easy to handle. But, the two cops tackled them well. The Great Indian Circus re-opened after a long time. Main ghar aa gaya, papa. In an American airport, Victoria received both Jai and Ali. Ali Akbar liked Victoria Williams, a female cop of Chicago Police Department. Sahir Khan was searching for a special girl for the circus. Ladki aisi ho jisme kuch kar dikhane ki aag ho; josh aur dher saara paagalpanthi. Aisi ladki baani bhi hain? Pehchaan ne wali ki najar chaiye. Aalia forcefully requested to participate in the audition. 5 minute mein agar ek second ke liye meri najar tumse haati, then out. Aalia started dancing like an Asian Goddess. Mere mahiya sanam janaam.kamli kamli mere yaar di.har shaam tera alam. Aalia got selected.

In the secret meeting, Mumbai ACP Jai Dixit pointed out that why two big robberies happened within a year in different branches of the same bank? Was there any big enemy of the Bank? We are Bankers; everybody hates us. In a press interview, Jai tried to provoke the clown thief. Mr. Khan met the cop and told him about Chupchap Charlie, a strange character of a Circus. Western Bank of Chicago implemented a new security system. Clown banna bahut serious kaam hota hain, bahut serious; kyon ki maskare ka khel dhoke ka khel hota hain. Aaj Circus ka pehla show hain. It’s Showtime! Be Alert! Again, the US Dollarfall took place in front of a branch of Western Bank of Chicago. The cop hanging from the helicopter fired a 9 mm length bullet at the back –body of the biker. But, the body scanner found no trace of that bullet on Mr. Khan’s body.

Samar fell in love with Aalia. The two Mumbai cops were told to go back to India by Mr. Anderson. Your services are not required anymore. But, Jai and Ali decided to solve the case. Aaye toh teh sharafat se, par jayenge toh dhoom machaake. Mr. Dixit found a new clue. Samar made friendship with a stranger. Jai requested Ali to concentrate on the investigation. Kaam ka socho, kaamsutra nahi. An old man took out some valuable things from his safe custody in a branch of Western Bank of Chicago. The bearded man applied the theory of Divide and Rule by utilizing Samar. Samar went for a date with Aalia. But, Sahir played a nice trick on Jai. Mr. Jai Dixit, tu toh jukaam ki tarah peeche lag gaya yaar. Circuswala hoon, sirf aankhon ko nahi, maut ko dhoka dete hain, roj. Husiyaari, tarqeef aur dhoka; teeno mil jaaye toh log usse jaadu samajhte hain.

The SWAT commandos entered inside the Head Office of the Western Bank of Chicago but came out of the building due to the gas effect. The two persons wearing the uniform of SWAT commandos completed their task. The bomb blast completely devastated the Head Office of the Western Bank of Chicago. The cops started chasing the thieves. Bhai, isko bhool jaao. Isko pakar nahi sakte; confirm. Raat choron ki hoti hain; bhaagne do, subha hamaari hogi. Ek patta mere paas bhi hain. Victoria, I need choppers and SWAT commandos at sunrise. What type of a deal was made between the cop and the thief? Did the cops succeed in catching the thieves? Did Khan Brothers succeed in taking their sweet revenge? What happened to Mr. Anderson’s Bank? To know the answers of these questions, just enjoy the Bollywood film, “DHOOM 3” featuring Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Uday Chopra and others.

Good Movie Amir khan is great

It's a nice movie with lots of amazing scenes and the end of the movie is superb. The bike action scenes and a bit touch of sci-fi ideas to the bike were amazing. The start-up plot was a bit sloppy but after few minutes the movie catches on.

Interesting movie. I recommend it to watch it and say 2013 goodbye with a good and satisfying movie.

DHOOM 3: The Great Yash Raj Circus
Dec 22, 2013 11:53 PM 4123 Views

This year has been full of disappointments barring a few small-budget delightful bundles. All big-budget movies seemed to be competing with each other. Each seemed a newer version of the one gone by. Mindless churning of boring stuff. U saw one, u saw all. But with each new release, I felt this is the one, only to feel disappointment. There is no story, songs are fillers, heroines r semi-nude vamps, heroes r stressed out or on their way out, and face festivity.

The saving grace of these movies to enter 100+ cr club was: they were solo/festive/holiday release, wider release - 4500 screens, nationwide publicity, TV appearances, hiked ticket prices, etc. This was enough to set newer records and mint moolah. But what about the product and viewer satisfaction? That was the CASUALTY this year. None of the top 10 movies boast of a repeat value and that says all. Can u remember anything worthwhile except cacophony? They r far from art. Burning money on these wasteful ventures has devalued the rupee but filled the coffers of insecure actors.

D3 is the usual marketing, media and money enterprise. One can see it once for Aamir Khan and that's it. It's a lift-off from NOW YOU SEE ME(2013) and other English movies. Even Aamir's poster is a copy of DARK KNIGHT(2008). Even bike scenes r inspired by DARK KNIGHT. Songs r passable. Bike chase scenes standout. Katrina has already shown everything on her private holiday with Ranbir and I didn't expect her to act. If she looks good, she is doing her job which is the least she can do. And the two Mumbai Pandu r passe. It's time to change them. Anyways, I guess it is curtains for this doom series. How much can u stretch the stale stuff when the original English movies offer more adrenalin.

This is a heist movie WITHOUT the heist being shown. And there is a surprise/suspense angle! At times, Aamir reminded me of Atal Behari Vajpayee in facial expressions. Since jaadu(magic) was at core, l visualized jaadu of KRRISH! But it was like "what u see is not what u get." I remembered jhaadu of Kejriwal. Also zandu balm for joint-breaking stunts and muscle pain. Also Devyani Cobra-Gate for committing crime in NY. Aamir has intensity of expressions and that made movies like GHAJINI, RDB, TZP a huge success. But D2 is all to do with raw physicality and tall torso. Aamir didn't fit the bill here with his short stature.

Why do u need Chicago when Bangalore would've done? There r many NRIs to decode the Hindi(Bank walon tumhari aisi ki taisi!). And US cops r not Indian panda sorry pandu! WHY was this movie made?(For providing employment to role-less strugglers two Pandu - Yajuj Majuj!). Sahir's clown mask'd've fitted perfectly well these two fright-face pandu. Pity, he leaves the mask behind at bank instead of plastering at their mugs! HOW did Mumbai police employ these two Pandu and to send them abroad? R these two detective/investigators/cops? Did they go sans Indian passports on Indian bikes? HOW did they get American visa? HOW! HOW! HOW! Could a RTI be done on what basis America took this decision? Do Americans need Indian Circus?

Who are the patronisers of this laborious exercise of a circus that'll never yield money! Does anyone attend circus in India? These two pandu are so ineffective that since 2004, they could NOT even get married! But then logic has no place amidst magic! Is Section 377 applicable on two Pandu? After mission accomplished, the two Pandu are promoted to Mumbai Police Commissioners! This happens only in India! I can imagine, Pandu saying, "Hello! This iz Pandu Hawildar Mumbai Wale." Ha! Haa! Haaa!

For laughter, I recalled the promo quotes of two Pandu:

P1: D3 is my movie. I'm the hero. If it doesn't succeed, who'll offer me roles in future!

P2: The credit for D3 success is all mine!(ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL.)

Can't say anything except Aamir definitely had his own valid reasons to attempt this trash. And I(like many) had grand expectations. Remember Amitabh Bachchan vs Shashi Kapoor in DEEWAAR(1975): Perfect Casting. And now Aamir Khan vs Phisaddi Pandu: Kahan Raja Bhoj, Kahan Gangu Struggler! They should've pitted a seasoned actor of Aamir's stature opposite him, who could do justice to the role.

Like it is said: fool and his money r soon parted. Thank God! It is year-end goof. Top 10 movie makers should make a good movie together for viewer satisfaction or YouTube will take over. D3 will definitely make 410+ cr in 14 days and set a new record! WHO CARES?

Better luck next year. JAI HO!

A good story told in an entertaining manner
Dec 22, 2013 10:24 PM 2855 Views

Okay without revealing the suspense for those who haven't watched it yet. It's a good movie, I can't compare the first 2 parts because Dhoom 3 is much different than its earlier versions. It's more on story, intensity, drama & performance.

Aamir Khan is a revelation, & it's like we have so much expectations from him, that sometimes, the best performance also is not enough. Yes, the film should have been a bit more polished, more splendid in terms of the canvas.

But still it's a movie which can be watched at least twice. If Mr Acharya could have done without some of the stunts which defy laws of motion & some silly one liners from Uday Chopra, the film would have been much more acclaimed critically. Box office doesn't matter because anyhow it will be breaking all records, already the 1st day collection boasts of a whooping 34 crores.

I understand, Indian audience needs some "seeti" and "taali" moments, so we accept Dhoom 3 with all it's flaws just because of it's intensity & the entertainment quotient which notches few degrees higher.

Apart from Aamir khan, the rest of the cast has also done commendable job, Abhishek Bacchan looks good as the tough cop, Katrina Kaif has really worked hard to get those exquisite dance steps which deserves a round of applause. Uday Chopra as the comic relief comes average. Jackie Shroff is a veteran so no doubt, he completely justified his small but effective role. The kids are too cute & smart.

As far as the story goes, it's a revenge saga with a secret weapon.(Not revealing much).

Go for it guys, you won't be disappointed. It's an honest  attempt to tell a story in an entertaining manner.

DHOOM COMES WITH A BOOM!!
Dec 22, 2013 08:32 PM 3051 Views

*Title:Dhoom 3

Cast:Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bacchan, Uday Chopra, Katrina Kaif

Music:Pritam

Directed by:Vijay Krishna Acharya

After waiting for what seemed like a long, long time, here comes finally the third movie of the Dhoom franchise. I, a huge movie buff, have always been a fan of the Dhoom movies and couldn't wait for Dhoom 3 to release. And what more, Aamir Khan, one of the best actors of Bollywood, acting in it! I think this has been on of the most-anxiously awaited movies for me, ever.

So it is with high expectations that I sat for the movie and the outcome is a thrilling, fast-paced movie with action, drama and suspense but still, not what you expect from a Dhoom movie. Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie, but looking back to what Dhoom and Dhoom 2 were, (which I loved!) this movie had me a tad bit disappointed. It was a great movie, but while I was expecting it to be the best movie of the year(yeah, even better than Bhaag Milkha Bhaag!) it sadly doesn't be so.

Plot: Aamir Khan(Sahir or Zahir) lost his father when the Bank of Chicago shut down their circus, The Great Indian Circus, because of lack of audience and popularity.  He grows up with the need to avenge his father's death, and kill the bank as it killed his father. So, he becomes a professional thief and robs various branches of the bank. There are various chase scenes in the movie but this thief cannot be caught, because surprisingly, he goes into a place, and comes out from another(which is the actual secret of the movie).

Now, enters Abhishek Bacchan(Jai) and Uday chopra(Ali) into the scene. They are the cops who are called to Chicago to help catch the thief who's robbing the bank. However, when they fail to do so and the thief again robs the bank, they are sent back to India. However, they remain back in Chicago, to catch the thief themselves, without the help of the Chicago police.

From here begins the ultimate chase of thief and police. Both come face-to-face a lot of times, but it's always the thief who wins, because of his little secret. The main twist(or secret) of the movie is fantastic, though it is revealed much before the interval. Full of chase scenes, loud Dhoom Machale music in the background, intriguing scenes shot in slow motion and bikes, this overall sums up Dhoom 3.

Cast Performance:

Aamir Khan: He's probably one of the best actors of Bollywood but oh! what a disappointment. Aamir Khan so didn't suit the thief's role. I never thought I would say this, but this is the first Aamir Khan movie in which I didn't like his role at all. No one other than Hrithik, or even John, could have suited the perfect character of the thief. I mean, Aamir's acting was too good, but I just wish he doesn't play the role of a thief in the future. Firstly, I found his looks, expressions and gestures a little too intense. As if he's trying too hard to fit into the role, but somehow isn't succeeding. Secondly, he is too short. I mean, scenes where he is standing beside Abhishek, I actually laughed out loud in the theater, it looked so funny. But otherwise, if you judge his acting, I think he did great.

Abhishek Bacchan: He's the same old Jai, and I loved him yet again in the story. I especially love Jai and Ali's combination, they're so funny at times. Abhishek Bacchan played his character well, though doesn't require any special appreciation. Same goes to Uday Chopra who plays the character of Ali.

Katrina Kaif: I think I need to write a whole different para for her. So, for all those who are going to watch this movie for Katrina, and only Katrina: DON'T waste your time! Easily, Katrina's worst role ever! I can't believe she said yes to this role. Overall, she doesn't have more than five dialogues in the whole movie, and does nothing more than show skin and smile stupidly in the film. Looking back to Aishwarya Rai in Dhoom 2(sorry, I have to compare) Katrina's role in the movie is not even 5% of Aishwarya's role. So, all those who're expecting to enjoy Katrina Kaif in yet another movie, think twice before going to see it.

Music: The music was very good. I loved Pritam's composition and except for one song(Tu Hi Junoon), I loved all the other songs in the movie(Malang, Kamli and the  title track of course). I especially loved the background music - it was perfect!

==Cinematography: I need to give special appreciation to cinematography. It was marvelous. All the chase scenes, shot brilliantly. Aamir's looks and the scenes which were shot in slow motion! Special stars to this one.

==So, should you see the film?= For all the fans of the Dhoom movies: go for the movie. It's a one time watch - but you'll definitely love it! For everyone who loves bikes: you have to watch this! Lovers of action, suspense, and awesome chase scenes: don't miss this one! Aamir Khan fans: Even though it's not his best, but see it for his sake:) And lastly, for Katrina Kaif fans: Even though I wrote negatively for her, you shouldn't miss the Kamli song. It's her introductory song and you'll definitely love it!

Thanks for reading the review,

Regards,

AH

DHOOM.... AAMIR style!
Dec 22, 2013 07:14 PM 3713 Views

I am damn sure, many will not like this movie, as a simple fact of criticizing every movie of every big actor, its kind of anti-incumbency factor with the ruling government, but if you see it with my eyes, you'll definitely like this movie. Some-over-the-imagination stunts are there, but still this movie is one of the best movie of 2013, and the main reason behind that is the MR. PERFECTIONIST AAMIR KHAN. This is my review of most awaited movie of 2013 - DHOOM 3.

I wanted you all to first watch the movie before reading this para. The story of this movie is - Film starts with a boy who runs to a local Chicago shop(1990 year) to give some of his personal belongings in lieu of some money, we come to know that its Sahir(Siddhath Nigam) whose father Iqbal Haroon Khan(Jackie Shroff) run a circus called as'The Great Indian Circus',  but they're now highly in debt, and the Bankers are coming to see a last act performed by them on request of Iqbal, since he wants to save his circus, but the owner of West Chicago Bank Mr. Anderson(Andrew Bicknell) didn't impress from the show, and ask Iqbal to stop the circus and leave the premises within 5 days.

Iqbal shot himself, and then we zoomed into another shot where we see the antagonist Sahir(Aamir Khan) grown up and performing a robbery in a branch of West Chicago bank. He wants to avenge the death of his father, and the only solution is to make the bank goes bankrupt. The bank directors & the Chicago police called the help from India - the famous thief catcher(actually in the previous 2 movies he didn't caught the thief!) ACP Jai Dixit(Abhishek Bachchan) & his sidekick Ali Akbar(Uday Chopra). Will he be able to catch the thief this time, and well there are some twists & turns, go and watch it, I recommend.

If you'll say that Fast & Furious is all about cars, then Dhoom is all about Bikes, you got to see some bike stunts & racing, though you cannot compare with hollywood level, but yes they're good, here as well you'll see some bike stunts & good ones. Dhoom is actually not about a hero, as we have seen, its all about villains, or rather we say anti-hero. In 1st installment, it was John Abraham, then came Hrithik Roshan, and now its the turn of Mr.Perfectionist Aamir Khan. If you don't like Dhoom series, I suggest you to go only for Aamir Khan, he is the lifeline of the movie, some scenes where he is not there in the movie, looks old, boring, but when he is there, those scenes are pretty much to watch.

Whatever he does, he just does it like a class well above many other actors, and it is not hyped. But Aamir Khan believes in doing the best job.

In one scene, when Aamir talks with Abhishek, Aamir obviously looked small in front of Abhishek's height but he is much too higher than Abhishek's stature. The acting of Abhishek & do-not-want-to-mention Uday was stritcly okay, those scene in which they perform looked kind of boring. Other foreign actors did acted well, unlike other Bollywood movies, and the major roles did by Andrew & Tabrett Bethell(played Victoria) were good. I didn't mention Katrina Kaif till now, coz she got a very thin role, unlike Aishwarya's role in Dhoom 2, she didn't have much to do. Other actor who comes up well is the actor who played young Sahir, Siddharth Nigam, he was too good in his scenes, must watch. You have high-chase scenes, special effects, good bike stunts, I loved especially the highly altered bike-mechanism. Aamir's bike was fitted with so many accessories, and is highly alterable, it can convert to anything, and the VFX showing that are too good. Many stunt scenes have good vfx and nicely done, but some stunt scenes go beyond the power of imagination, which could be avoided, because it look bad to even think of that. A scene where Sahir bombed the bank building's name, and the one where Abhishek is hanging from a helicopter, were pretty ordinary.

Movie is long, goes for almost 3 hrs(our show started at 18:30 & ended up at 21:40), the movie's 1st and 2nd half are equally balanced, and what a point for interval, well as you know that this movie has its share ofa major twist which you'll get to see at interval juncture, many will take that concept a bit not okay, they will definately think a poor concept, but for me it was an awesome twist and a wonderful concept which I imagined right at the beginning. Story seems a copy from a Hollywood movie, it looks like that, but I am yet to find any such movie(people are saying its copied from "Now You See Me", whose plot looks similar but it was also released in 2013 & not before, so I doubt, if Dhoom 3 is copied from that movie), movie is directed and co-written by Vijay Krishna Acharya, he has direted'Tashan' before this, and is also a dialogue & screenplay-writer.

Dialogues are good especially the characteristic dialogue of the movie said by Aamir & Jackie's characters.

The music is not that upto the mark, given by Pritam, but still I liked the song esp. the Dhoom theme song(sung by Aditi Singh Sharma), it has a different hip-hoppy beats to it, sound much better than part 2's dhoom theme. Other songs which I liked are Malang(Siddharth Mahadevan, Shilpa Rao), Tu hi Junoon (Mohit Chauhan) & Bande hainhum uske(Shivam Mahadevan, Anish Sharma). But the background score perfectly gels to the theme of the movie, given by Julius Packiam. The setup is good, and every bit the movie looks like shot fully in Chicago, giving the real feel, and as you know an action movie(that too with racing kind of stuff) requires good shot angles, and here also the cinematography is too good.

Movie starts well, goes into somewhat boring, but then reach its highest point in interval, and then ends well, and I waill say that even with its flaws, it a must watch for once. And even when Abhishek Bachchan was saying that "Dhoom is his & Uday's movie, and they're the hero of the movie", but don't go by their words, they're there because director have no choice, but this movie totally belongs to Aamir Khan, and you should watch this movie for him only. I rate 4/5.

( Public notice:-As a good practice watch the movie and then read the review:)

The stern Visa officer stared at the three people seated in front of him.

He was curious. He looked at them. One glum, the second one grinning for no apparent reason and third with Lincoln thoughtfulness all over his face.

He had been told that they were movie stars wanting to go to his great country

‘Why do you want a visa? ‘ He asked while looking piercingly at them

One of the gentlemen piped up, his index finger resting thoughtfully on his philtrum giving a very calculated answer.

‘Uh Umm we are off to make a  movie’

‘Wow movie star. Mumbai film industry. You slum dogs. That was one heck of a movie’

‘Uh Umm you see we are not slum dogs. Well not a bad idea. Maybe next time I will research for that role but now it’s for a movie about bikes”

The officer was curious ‘ Bikes?’

‘See basically the truth is(purses his lips) I am off to make a movie on myself”The actor clarified.

‘Uh.On you?” the officer asked perplexed.

The actor gives a small grin with wrinkles that travel unto his narrowed eyes and a generous dimple forming on the right side. This was not just any grin. It had been perfected over decades of calculating with precision of just how much to smile.

‘Ah ha, well I hate to be truthful, but yes. You see umm  ah., the story is about a bank there represented by one wooden face and two sidekicks who refuse to save a Broadway type circus show. The father commits suicide. The son he leaves behind umm ah. grows up to be me. I have in the meantime only one mission in life. To keep robbing that bank.  The person who refused loan to my father is now the President of the bank with two more wrinkles added to his face. I keep outwitting them”

“Wow interesting story line” the officer, his curiosity aroused, continues

‘So how do you rob the banks?‘

The actor smiles benignly.”Ha-ha that would be revealing. Aha. Cannot reveal that.In fact we never reveal it in the movie as well. We just show me entering and exiting the bank with a shrewd look on my face. So you will gather that I have been successful. I also exit most of the time in Matrix style. You know like walking down buildings along the walls. The stupid bank folks. Never ask me questions as I rig up expensive support gear on their terraces to travel down later. I just make sure that I put up my best grim ‘Gotcha’ look on while apparently coming down the building in Superman Style”

The officer looks piqued “Ok I hope you do not make our police look stupid”

The actor clarifies “aha no we don’t want to do that especially after you have given us permission to shoot around the most picturesque locales in your country. We outsource your failures too – That’s where these two come in“ He says pointing in the direction of the two gentlemen sitting to his left grimacing and grinning goofily.

The custom officer looks at them “ Hmm…But do they not work in tandem with anyone there”

“Well you see this guy with the goofy grin actually will work with one of your best female officers who solve cases of robbery by correctly identifying that the act has indeed been done by a thief. We wanted her to be the love interest of this goofy grinning guy who incidentally is also the producer of this film. The other gentleman is a legacy that I have to carry on in this version which is actually revolving around me and me alone “

The officer looks at the other two with a worried look “But then why take these two if they are not around in the movie anyway”

The actor gets worried, narrows his eyes and clarifies “See I am part of the main movie where we try to match Hollywood sophistication in special effects, great set pieces and costumes and outstanding photography. We create computerized havoc on the streets of your city without hurting anyone. But the Indian masses also need some nonsense tapori style stuff like Chennai Express. So I reasoned with the producer here allowing him to have a small parallel track with chawls, auto rickshaws doing embarrassing things, street lingo. Now please note that it is a completely independent track totally apart in intelligence from my own track. I am just doing it to help the distributors”

The officer is not sure he understood what was being said but prefers to shift to the next query lest he look silly. “What about your heroine?”

The actor narrows his eyes, gives his special wrinkled smile “Heroine hahaha you are joking right. When I act, it’s only me the audience watches. But then I had to help my producer friend here and allowed him to allow his favorite heroine to come in between all my important scenes and perform aerobics in sponsored lingerie from famous fashion lines’

The officer is now nearing boredom “Ok I get the picture. I understand you wanting to shoot in my country. But I still do not understand how you solve the problem and why you are seeking to shoot the climax in Switzerland, Verzasca dam”

The actor quickly glances at the producer actor sitting next to him. ”Well it’s a bit embarrassing. This producer here owes his allegiance to Switzerland from a long time.  He wants to maintain his special privileges there and wants to shoot at least one scene over there.Though I intended to walk up the bank building on the wall in the end, I gave in, compromised on my superior script sense and agreed to complete the climax of this masterpiece on the wall of this arched dam”

The custom officer looks at the third hero who has been sitting glowering away. “ I understand these two. Who are you? “

The man is angered “My dad is a big actor and I am the hero of this movie “ He glowers.

The officer is quickly bored turns back to the chief actor who has been talking

“Ok, gentlemen I think I will grant you folks visas though I was told to not release any fresh ones till you put the cement barricade back on the road. But I have a feeling that the monies you expend will pump back energy into my economy. So fine. Just hope you are not planning to take any maids along with you?”

The actor turns back smiles benevolently the dimple appearing again.

‘No not this time but am planning to make a movie “TAI Zameen par”

The customs picks up his stamp and hurriedly stamps the three passports.

DHOOMED

Dhoom 3 is an action thriller film, written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra(in his spare time when not serenading Rani Mukherjee.) It is the third installment of the Dhoom series, not necessarily in that order.

Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra reprise their roles as Jai Dixit and Ali Akbar with Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif being the antagonist duo. Tabrett Bethell, the Australian TV actress with lips like the fiery bows of Arjuna and hair like cascading strands of golden light stars as Victoria, the US investigator.

Khan, Bachchan and Kaif took up special preparations for their roles. Khan reportedly learnt ballet, aerobatics and the French technique of parkour, a method of movement focused on negotiating obstacles with speed and efficiency, while Kaif took paragliding training and singing lessons. Khan and Kat have scored an envious physique while Bachchan reportedly lost nine kilos of weight to prepare for his role in the film and thereafter proceeded on a paternity leave, for no fault of his. Acne-faced, plump and shuffling about in an ill-fitting beard and glasses, he looks far from being capable of being held in any way responsible for the little bee.

According to several trade publications, Dhoom 3 has opened to an overwhelming response at the domestic box office. Critics have given mixed reviews from outstanding to thumbs-down- I say, ‘the audience decides!’ And the audience decided by getting increasingly restless, taking popcorn breaks and ordering chicken momos and squirming in their seats every time a song came up. The songs are brilliantly shot but I can’t say the same for the melodies or why they were there at all!

I wonder which circus in the world is based on a one trick magician and gymnasts singing and dancing in perfect obeisance to a Bollywood choreographer rather than swinging from a rope and shoving their heads inside sedated lions as per established norms of known circus behavior and conduct. There are no semi clad beauties or in-you-face clown acts in this circus. No wonder the bank decided the circus was bad business and shut it down, prompting its chief trickster- Jackie Shroff to shoot himself in the head before coming up with the profound one-liner inanity - ‘teri aisi ki taisi!’ Aamir Khan, the child prodigy witnesses the act and swears revenge on the bank.

When he grows up he keeps up robbing the banks branches, benevolently sharing his loot with homeless onlookers that chance upon the treasure with happy serendipity, driving it into bankruptcy. The bank bosses call upon the myriad skills of Jai and Ali to save them from this Hindi scourge, hoping their language skills, if nothing else will nail the slippery rascal.

Alas, Jai fails miserably- understandably so, given the precarious detective skills of his partner whose confused affections for him border on gay love, yet strangely haunted by outlandish dreams of straight love, mostly involving the gilded Australian ex-cheerleader. The duo are prodigious at driving the Great Indian Rickshaw with Shockers of Kevlar over rooftops and chastising domesticated villains, but this circus pony seems well out of their league.

Jai arguably has no love interest, or for that matter any interest at all after having bagged for himself the much coveted and eagerly fought-over Ms. Rai. He seems indifferent, and so do many others, including the bronzed, thunder-thighed, wide shouldered and fast ageing Katrina who never makes eye contact with her love, Aamir. She towers over him like a gargantuan goddess while he returns the favor by kissing her as if he is kissing his sister. One can infer the matrimonial status of one and the implied status of the other in this quick and awkward transaction of body fluids. For commoners like me It never ceases to amaze me how you can kiss your neighbors wife and then look the bloke in the eye?

The movie has too much of hype and hoopla and less of the gentle narrative of the previous versions where the characters grew on you and made a connect. Aamir fails to portray the intensity of the wronged thief with his menacing frown or autistic, ‘Rain man’ style act. He is pretty much wasted here, age showing in the close-ups. Abhishek should take care of his health and paternal obligations rather than presumptuously chasing hoodlums far in excess of his bounds. The chases and songs are technically sound but far too many and far too unproductive.

The stunts and graphics are very good for our standards so far, but for a multiplex audience already breast-fed on Hollywood’s best and latest, these fail to impress or convince. The humor is bland and brought over as legacy from the previous versions, the romance, a tasteless ingredient in the cocktail.

Must watch the film for its cinematic excellence, for everyone else is doing so, but don’t expect the kind of entertainment you got in D-2 or K-2 or a D-2. We must encourage the efforts of our homegrown industry, and laud them for courageous inroads into Hollywoodian territory.

Believed to be one of the most expensive Indian films of all time, Dhoom 3 was released in IMAX format. It is the first Bollywood movie to be released in the IMAX format- guess we will never know how that helps.

Dhoom-3 a brainless hyped movie
Dec 22, 2013 03:04 AM 2790 Views

The only star value is Amir in this movie. The brainless story, lot of flaws in the movie but only grace is shot in beautiful Chicago.

First shot when Amir was running vertically on the skyscrapper n his hairs are not waving at all shows missed effects of special effect.

Identify Abhishek is easy in any getup n intelligent Amir fails badly.wow.

Director was more focussed on converting bike into boat.thank god due to budget n USA they havent give wings to the bike.

The best thing:

1 Hum bande hai, hum pe kis ka zor: Nice words.

  1. Aamir Hat looks awesome n great in movie.

  2. Nice creativity in clown face.but sad it was not used often.like Hritiks A in Dhoom-2.

  3. Aamir song: tu hi junoon was good.

  4. The last shot location was superb.

  5. Katrina presence breeze

  6. Aamir finally tries Hritik's domain i.e. Koi Mil Gaya

8 Uday Chopra & Abhishek.Jai Veeru.

Kash director had spend some money on story writers instead of action director and the special effect team.

Despite all, watchable only on the internet.

Dhoom 3 not much to dhoom
Dec 22, 2013 01:19 AM 2504 Views

Some scenes are good but the rest are boring. Also, the story being copied from many Hollywood movies, just to build high box office revenues, is not fair and surely not justified to dhoom sequels.

Highest budget film but not up to the mark. PATHETIC for the viewers who expected more from the movie. Starting is a little boring but somehow, it is a little entertainment in the middle.

Aamir's Dhoom!
Dec 21, 2013 10:41 PM 2308 Views

Film had three definitive'Dhoom' points - Start, Intermission and End.all three belonged to Aamir Khan.He did justice to the role and took it to the next level(admit that I am a big Aamir fan).Certain stunts were awesome.for instance, bike on a rope.

Jai and Ali were their usual self. Katrina's dance moves are good. Music is average.

Must watch for Aamir fans & lovers of fun action!

(I am purposefully not revealing the plot, because I enjoyed it without knowing it too!)

The heart of Bollywood now resides in Chicago!
Dec 21, 2013 08:45 PM 2390 Views

One thing you are assured of from a film from the Yash Raj Films stable; the marketing will be subtle and it will strike a chord, it appears that this chord is now just a little discordant, they do not want their films to be identified with Bharat anymore  but India as viewed in Amrika! Otherwise how do you explain a Bollywood movie based in Chicago,  Illinois, USA?

Have not watched Dhoom and Dhoom 2 and therefore cannot comment if this sequel lives up to the parent film, frequently  they do not!

It takes a while for the film’s plot to be revealed  completely. The writers have packed in ample suspense to keep your interest latched on till the interval. Thereafter it is a case of a what a movie could have been;  the 172 minutes length  in the end really kills; an hour shorter and you would have been  watching a gem.

About the movie- It is an outright Amir Khan’s show right from the start to the end. He plays every shade of his role with smoothness, ease and perfection. A double role helps to showcase his acting skills;but will this one be counted amongst his cult movies( a la Rangeela, 3 Idiots?) Probably not!

Jackie Shroff packs a punch with a cameo but the disappointment is Abhishek Bacchan, his role as Jai Dixit  just can’t hold a candle to Amir’s, or maybe the movie was  written this way!

The movie has raw high octane action sequences and bike thrills, maybe a little too much of it. Pritam’s music is OK, nothing outstanding but the choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant is outstanding and worth many a watch. Breathtakingly shot with gorgeous cinematography, there is all the action and gadgets, seamlessly beaded together but you come away from the theatre with a feeling that  the soul is missing from the story.

Don't wait for the TV release, it's the apt movie to watch on the big screen. But have you had a look at the ticket pricing at the multiplexes this week-end? It just strengthens  your feeling that YRF which at one time used to represent what Bollywood was all about  wants to now move on and compete with Hollywood.

Don’t bother reading or anticipating the film’s success, am sure the  marketing team would have already booked the JW Marriot, Juhu for the Monday night super hit success party and maybe the 100 crore announcement before the end of her first week.

Am I cynical? You bet, this is the same production house which gave us Kala Patthar, Kabhi Kabhi, Lamhe and Chandni but it appears that the soul of Bollywood now wants to reside in Beverly hills.

Honest Review : Dhoom 3 : Average
Dec 21, 2013 04:37 PM 2587 Views

Greetings MS Readers, I'm back after a long time to share you my review on the most awaited film of the year. I've been an avid fan of the franchise and been waiting for so long since Dhoom 2 was a major disappointment.

My favorite was obviously the first installment as it had enough originality and amazing action scenes for its time and also I'm a regular Hollywood moviegoer and I've seen almost every good action film out there. So id expect intelligent action and a complex plot.

I've seen the trailers and was able to gather almost the entire plot of the movie and the action sequences, but was optimistic that it would be at least better than Dhoom 2, but I was so wrong.

Apart from the fantastic and intense performance of Aamir Khan, there was literally nothing that would make you interested or even sit at the theater. I don't know how everyone are going gaga over the movie, saying its the best movie they ever seen which totally puzzles me, I'm sure there are many people out there who would agree to what I'm saying.

Let me tell you in detail my observations which has made me disappointed. Guys I must warn you that there are gonna be spoilers.

Plot: Its about a Father & his young son who run a circus in Chicago, but the bank loan is denied thus forcing them to shut it down and the father committing suicide. Now seeking to avenge the death of his father, AK plans to rob all the branches of the bank and also rebuild the circus. In the process he must also face the duo Jai-Ali who go to all sorts of extreme measure with the help of Chicago Police to capture him.

Direction: Having a run time of about 3 hours, you'd expect the movie experience to be thrilling since its known for its action and pacy screenplay. But it ends out to be annoying and irritating. The action sequences were incomplete, cars flying all over the place, you'll observe that the Chicago Police Dept are to be the dumbest in the world. Stupid 1 liners and plain storytelling.

Visuals & Cinematography: Just because its released in IMAX format and shots taken in Chicago, every scene looks visually stunning. But there s nothing extraordinary

Acting: If not for Aamir Khan this movie would have sucked big time & been a total disaster.

Abhishek & Uday make a mockery at everything they do. Katrina only has to be there for aerobatics and raunchy dance moves, are the rest of them do an okay job.

Songs & Background Score: The BS is real headache and u feel the wrong instruments are being played sometimes or else there s no music being played at all. Songs are just okay. The main theme song was almost the same as the last one.

Action Scenes: The biggest drawback is the detail, they always show the scenes after the robbery the finished and Run & Chase sequence but not how the actual robbery takes place. In all of the scenes, the police place roadblocks but the robber easily evades them and none of them even fires a single bullet. The bank gets robbed thrice but still doesn't increase the security systems, the swat team do not wear oxygen masks or bullet vests and run around all over the place. There are more but I don't have the patience to type it all.

Verdict: Can be watched with family?: Yes . Its definitely a 1 time watch, and don't shell out big bucks to watch this instead spend that money for a nice meal in a restaurant.

Twisty-Turny Dhoom 3!!!
Dec 21, 2013 03:19 PM 2495 Views

Too much of expectations with this movie. Thanks to Aamir Khan those are decently met not over-achieved.

Plot of the movie is the same as with previous versions. However it comes with some very good twists and turns which nobody could think of!

Amir Khan rocks as usual. He has done full justice to the movie. Special mention to the kiddo Amir Khan - excellent job done by that boy. Katrina looks, dances well and does some fantastic acrobatics. Abhishek, Uday have done ok roles not something great.

Overall a good movie which relies on its twists and turns as well as chase sequences to delight viewers. But definite watch for sure.

Amir Khan movies is awesome.
Dec 21, 2013 03:12 PM 2330 Views

For Dhoom3, I was waiting for this movie. Finally I saw this movie today.

Good story and well written script. Good play. The film is strictly a one-time watch. The problem is it drowns under its very zeal to be'different' commercial fare. This is Aamir Khan's big bang bonanza.

I like every movie. Aamir Khan movies are awesome.
