Dangerous Ishq Movie Reviews

DANGEROUS Indeed!
May 13, 2012 04:51 PM 4585 Views

Vikram Bhatt had scored a sixer with last year’s horror film, Haunted. Hence, a section of moviegoing audience was keenly awaiting his next, Dangerous Ishhq. His style of execution has been top-class in most films but he wasn’t in form in Dangerous Ishhq. And this is sad, since he was equipped with a very interesting storyline that could have turned into a great entertainer. Just proves once again that it’s not the content but the treatment that matters the most!

The story of the movie: Sanjana (Karisma Kapoor) is a supermodel in love with a rich industrialist, Rohan (Rajniesh Duggall). Life was going great for them until one day, Rohan gets kidnapped. At the same time, Sanjana experiences strange visuals and sounds. Her doctor friend, Neetu (Divya Dutta) realizes that these strange occurrences could be related to her past life and hence takes her to a past life regression therapist. Sanjana then travels to her past lives and realizes that Rohan has been her partner in her every life and a powerful force has always tried to separate them. And this villainous force can be the one behind Rohan’s kidnapping. Who is he/she and what is its motive? Watch Dangerous Ishhq to find out!

Dangerous Ishhq has a shaky start but gets on track when Rohan gets kidnapped. Also the scene in the hospital when Sanjana gets the past life memories for the first time was intriguing. Similarly was the scene where she suddenly realizes that she can read a language, alien to her! The scene at the therapist took takes off well but the tacky special effects spoil the show! However, the entire partition-related Landi Kotal sequence was fairly interesting. The second past-life episode – Daulatabad circa 1658 – was the least interesting! And most interesting and powerful was the Chittorgarh episode of 1535. However, it comes too late in the day. The three past life tracks don’t come one after another. There are gaps with the kidnapping track going on simultaneously. And it is this part of the film that’s most unconvincing. ACP Singh (Jimmy Shergill) ordering his juniors to prepare the sketch of the accused, as ‘seen’ by Sanajana during her regression seemed unconvincing. Also, the entire episode at the truck depot and the bar just doesn’t register any impact. Thankfully, the twist in the climax works to an extent!

Even the performances aren’t exemplary. Karisma Kapoor does well in the present-day portions but her Urdu and Rajasthani accent didn’t sound authentic. She looks beautiful throughout the film though! Rajniesh Duggall was alright in the beginning portions but delivers his best in the partition episode. He is hardly there in the second half even though the film revolves around him! As expected, Jimmy Shergill gives a brilliant performance and turns out to be the best performer of the film. Divya Dutta was likeable in all her avatars. Ravi Kiseen leaves a mark in a small role. So does Aarya Babbar. Samir Kocchar and Ruslaan Mumtaz were okay. The film also features Gracy Singh as Meerabai! Others were okay.

Himesh Reshammiya’s music is letdown and the only songs that work to an extent is ‘Tu Hi Rab’. Raju Singh’s background score was too loud. Pravin Bhatt’s cinematography was alright. The VFX didn’t work. Girish Dhamija’s dialogues could have been sharper.

Amin Hajee, who also wrote Haunted, comes up with a very interesting storyline which, if it was treated well, could have made for an interesting saga. But sadly and shockingly, Vikram Bhatt’s direction was disappointing. He messed up the most in the kidnapping drama and the Daulatabad scene. I love the 90s feel and songs that Bhatt incorporates in his films but in Dangerous Ishhq, it misfired. The songs acted as sore thumb! Also, what was the need for 3D in the film? Except the glass breaking and debris flying sequence, there was nothing extraordinary or ‘3D-worthy’ in the movie! Hope Vikram’s next Raaz 3 justifies the 3D context!

Few good scenes in the film:

  1. Sanjana in hospital

  2. The Landi Kotal sequence

  3. The blast in the hotel

  4. The climax

On the whole, Dangerous Ishhq is one of the biggest disappointments of the year! Equipped with an interesting storyline, Vikram Bhatt messes up with the script and direction. Even Karisma was good but not great! The other film of the week, Ishaqzaade, is any day a safer bet than Dangerous Ishhq!

Really a Dangerous ISHHQ!!

Well, I would start my review by saying a good thing about a movie - I want to read this movie as a novel, because I think that then this story can do more justice to its buyers. A good concept indeed, though old and repeated, but good for a novel, you don't find much different novels also. Karishma is strictly okay, rest are passable, many flaws are there, and a TYPICAL VIKRAM BHATT AFFAIR!!

To start, the story is like this (DO NOT READ IF YOU"RE INTENDED TO WATCH THE MOVIE) - Sanjana (Karishma Kapoor) is a supermodel (!! in this age), and she loves Rohan (Rajneesh Duggal) but she has to go on a long term job of modelling in Paris, but she came back to find Rohan get kidnapped in front of her eyes, yet she opened her eyes in a hospital (she was kicked by a kidnapper), and found herself disillusionary, watching whole hospital empty, and someone, having a same face of Rohan is dying in front of her, when so many people enters in hospital to kill them, but it was just a disillusion. Her friend and well-wisher Divya Dutta says that it's just effect of sedatives she's taken, and then take her to a doctor of spirituality, who said that this effect is coming because of her previous birth, and off she went to 1947 Pakistan, when she (Geeta) was survived the riots, by Iqbal (played by Rajneesh Duggal) and his friend, later to know that its Iqbal's friend who is plotting against then, since he loved her, and both ket killed. Meanwhile in current timeline, we come to know (even Sanjana doesn't know!!) that Rohan is kidnapped, and he asked some money from his father where our ACP SIngh (Jimmy Shergill) is waiting to catch the kidnappers. Dad and his other son Rahul (Ruslaan Mumtaz) go to give kidnappers the money. This time Sanjana again travels back in her earlier to earlier birth. Cut 2: 1668 Daulatabad - Aurangzeb's time, again someone else loves her (Salma) and take her love Ali (again the same Rajneesh) away from her, but both didn't survived, but she came to know that the guy who took him away is having the same face of Rahul (Ruslaan). She came back, tell ACP that Rahul is the kidnapper. They track Rohan after getting getting leads from Rahul (he is just having deals with other over kidnapping), but Rohan got blown away by a bomb!! Cut 3: 1553 Chittorgarh - Mira's (played by Gracy Singh) time, and she (Paro) was again loved by someone else - the Senapati of Chittorgarh (Ravi Kissen), but she loves another mantri Rajdutt (the same Rajneesh!). He put Rajdutt in jail, but only to find Paro has taken poison. He ask a witch Manthara to give him some powers so that he can get her Paro back in any other life, and the witch gave him the power with a burn mark. So it means in current lifetime whoever is having that burn mark is the real kidnapper.

See, treatment is really old, as is the story, but still I can give some marks if it got converted to a fiction novel. There are soo many flaws - 1. Rohan get kidnapped in front of Sanjana, yet she behaves like she didn't know. Our police is backward too, they're running voice recognition software, even tapping the phone of kidnappers, but they're not tracing him (although this logic can be solved after completing the movie). 3. Right from the first shot, Rahul (Ruslaan) looks doubtful, so it's easy to find out that, Sanjana (Karishma) should not take so much efforts to go back in past life to know that, she would have simply ask me!! 4. Rahul accepted his part in kidnapping, says a filmi dialogue, and just like that he helped the ACP in tracking whoever's behind it. 5. Sanjana behaving like a mental problem patient when he's seeing things but nobody is suggesting her anything, they just simply believed that past-life problem is there. 6. Everybody's face remained same throughout all the lives except the main villian, WHY?? You can guess!! Witches and lots more are there to say a no. 1st half was bad, 2nd half is okay. It's a typical Vikram Bhatt movie, full romantic and die-hard kind of romantic. The same kind of background score (by Raju Singh), although I liked it, playing in every possible scene, felt like something's lost, and sometime it becomes like its a horror movie. Not much songs in between, 1 or 2, but music is okay by Himesh Reshammiya. "Tu hi Rab" and "Naina Re" are good compositions. Movie goes on for just above 2 hrs, that's the good part, as nobody can handle more of it. Karishma was strictly okay as I said above, nothing great comes out. Rest are okay, even Jimmy Shergill didn't looked good. 3D!!! No Need to go, I didn't find much exciting scenes, as required for a 3D, although I didn't watched the 3D version. Special effects (very few!) are horrible, please don't try them again!

Yes, but I didn't felt bored here, and enjoyed a bit of whatever is going on the screen, so I give it a ,mildly 2.5/5. You decide, whether you want to watch it or not!, If you go, don't expect and enjoy, if you don't, no problem, watch it on TV.
