Aap Ki Khatir Reviews

Oh my GOD!
Mar 27, 2007 07:51 AM2870 Views

Aap Ki Khatir has romance, song n dance and high drama, unfortunately the main storyline of the film is unclear. There are several different sub-plots like a wedding, a romance and the hiring of an escort all just thrown in together to make it a commercial potboiler. The film begins in an interesting fun manner but gradually develops into over the top drama. Aap Ki Khatir seems frivolous and illogical at times, the screenplay is inefficient, the script is below average and the performances are just about average. Overall the film turns out to be quite a disappointment.

The film title literally means ‘Anything For You’ and has been produced by Ganesh and Ratan Jain. The part of the film which includes the hiring of an escort and the pre-wedding drama is inspired from the Hollywood flick ‘The Wedding Date’ and also includes several sequences from other successful commercial Hindi films. The film belongs to the genre of drama with doses of humour. Unfortunately even Himesh Reshammiya’s brand of music does not do anything special for the film. Although the cast has an interesting mix of actors, they too don’t manage to lift the film much. The cast includes Akshaye Khanna (Aman), Priyanka Chopra (Anu), Amisha Patel (Shirani), Dino Morea (Danny), Suniel Shetty (Kunal), Bhumicka Singh (Nikki), Anupam Kher (Arjun Khanna) and Lilette Dubey (Betty Khanna).

Anu a rich London bred girl came back to Mumbai after her sexy boyfriend Danny dumped her. Anu still nurses a broken heart for Danny and now she is faced with a new problem. Anu has to go back to London for her sister Shirani’s wedding to Gujarati businessman Kunal. But the catch to the situation is that Kunal and Anu’s ex Danny are good buddies so he’s definitely going to be at the wedding. Now Anu does not want to seem like the poor lonely girl with a broken heart, so she comes up with a plan. Anu decides to ask her colleague Aman to escort her to the wedding as her make belief boyfriend. Aman is also a male escort from Lokhandwala in Mumbai. Aman is witty, mischievous and fun.

Anu takes Aman along with her to London for Shirani’s wedding to make Danny Jealous. Once they are in London, there are plenty of pre-wedding functions and hoards of relatives attending the functions. Anu’s mom Betty Khanna re-married Arjun Khanna after Anu’s father passed away. Relatives of both the bride and groom are attending the pre-wedding functions and everyone seems to be having a great time. Anu’s plan too seems to be working fine. However things take a turn when Aman the make belief boyfriend begins to fall for the confused Anu, while Anu is torn between Danny and Aman. The situation goes completely out of hand when it comes to light that Shirani and Danny too were involved with each other.

The script of the film has glaring deficiencies and unfortunately director Dharmesh Darshan’s execution too is lacking. The first half of the film is humorous and light and keeps one entertained but unfortunately the second half is a downright disappointment with over the top drama and a predictable climax. These are several loopholes in the writing which does not establish the relationship between any of the characters well, like the relationship between the sisters, the relation between Aman and Anu and neither the relation between the bride and groom to be. The film tries to incorporate too much of the wedding drama which has been done to death in several Hindi films and does not work as well in today’s times. Dharmesh Darshan tries to add a balanced mix of laughter and emotions but unfortunately the final result is below average.

There are few points which make the film watchable, the comic light moments in the first half and Akshaye Khanna’s decent performance. Unfortunately the music is average, though not of the hit variety. The title track ‘Aap Ki Khatir’ is average and listenable, it is heard quite a few times and Akshaye’s ‘Shayari’ in the song impresses. Unfortunately there seem to be too many songs and they are more situational than catchy. Dialogues by Sunil Munshi work well for most part. Cinematography by W.B Rao which have London locales impress but certain frames look dated and jarring.

Performances are quite a disappointment too. Akshaye though as the witty, sarcastic charmer does well in his role, he delivers a decent and efficient performance. Priyanka Chopra on the contrary seems a bit loud and over acts at times. Her look too at times is a bit gaudy. Overall her performance in the film does not impress much. Dino Morea looks great and is average in his performance. Amisha Patel is sidelined in the film and her performance is mediocre. Suniel Shetty does not quite fit the character and his performance does not make a mark. Anupam Kher is average and Lilette Dubey as a character actor is good. The rest of the cast comprising the various relatives are too loud and garish.

Aap Ki Khatir falls short of even making it to the average mark. The film’s script and screenplay lacks appeal, objective and direction and hence the film is a let down

The Wedding...uhm yeah...
Feb 27, 2007 06:26 PM3643 Views

Okay, so, why on earth did I watch this movie? Well, because it seemed like a good idea at the time, much like the time I took out a movie starring Usher and hoped that it would be good but it turned out to be NOT so good coz of the really. No, wait a minute, I'm reviews The Wedding Date here.I mean Aap ki Kathir. So, let's dig in shall we?

*Plot:

*Not trying to be all funny or anything, but, basically the premise of the movie is exactly that of The Wedding Date. Okay, I'll try.

Okay, so Anu(Priyanka), is going to her sister Shirani's(Amisha) wedding. Thing is tho', the best man Danny(Dino), is her ex, whom she's still madly in love with. So she decides to hire an Aman(Akshaye) and pretend that he's her boyfriend to make Danny jealous.

A couple of songs, a deep secret that upsets everyone, and an embarassing encounter in a car later, the movie ends.whew, I felt like I was watching it again

*Cast:

Priyanka Chopra as Anu: **Don't get me wrong, I like this girl a lot, I mean, she brought us Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and that was a really nice movie. I loved her in Yakeen. So, when I bought this

(burst into tears of regret), I thought I was getting a nice entertaining movie. This woman irritated me from the beginning to the end of the movie. By the time Danny came on, I completely understood why he dumped her, I mean, if that's how Anu really was. Anyway, moving on

Amisha Patel as Shirani:The less said about this lass, the better. I have NO idea what she did in the movie, except simper and sidle up to her oh-so-loving fiancee, whom she had more than eh, ZERO chemistry with.

Akshaye Khanna as Aman:This dude is the ONLY actor I found tolerable in the whole movie. This dude is good at what he does and one wonders if he was doing someone a favour by acting in this movie. He was such a misfit, I wanted to yank him out of the movie through the TV screen.only coz, I know he's better than this movie

Dino Morea as Danny:Okay, this boy is hot, anyone who says otherwise is blind(ha ha). But, I have to say, giving smouldering looks to the camera everytime the directors says "ACTION", does not a good actor make. I'm still trying to find a movie with him in it that I can watch without cringing, I mean, I would like to see one without a single cringe.aaaaahhh, he's THAT bad.

Sunil Shetty as Kunal:Okay, I sort of like Sunil Shetty. Yes, there are some cringe-worthy films of his, but generally, he's a good actor. My main problem with his role is that they made him to be so whipped, all he did was stare at his simpering fiancee and make her simper and bat her eyelids even more. He was hardly on the screen to begin with! Plus, no matter what the star quality of an actor is, getting a 40-something year old in the role of googly-eyed love sick puppy is NOT a good idea!

The rest of the cast was okay at best, although I like Anupam Kher as the daddy, dodgy movie or not, this man can still make HIS role watchable, I especially liked his scenes with Akshaye.

*Diagnosis:

*All I can say is, if you've watched The Wedding Date and you fancy a repeat performance in a different language, then this movie is for you. If, however, like me you wanted to claw whoever came up with this idea's eyes out, then rather go have another go at watching TWD, and STAY AWAY from this one. It's not so much that it was a copy that got my goats, coz, I really couldn't care less what was copied from what, if the story's good. Borrowing from a particular movie, is all well and fine, but the fact that the dialogues were a direct lift for TWD, save for a few changes in scenery, made me want to spit in indignation. Couldn't they tweak them a bit? I mean hey, there are copies made left right and center, but at least some come with SOME originality.the dude or dudess, who came up with this one was just plain lazy.

Not Bad!
Feb 17, 2007 11:45 AM2988 Views

I quite liked the movie contrary to what many people would believe.I personally think if one could watch every movie, without expectations then every movie will be worth the watch.Aap ki Khatir isnt that bad guys, if not an aplaud it atleast does not deserver to be ripped apart by everyone?

Why expect?Same with this film.i went in with no expectations and came out quite satisfied.i personally think it was a film well dealt with, with its own limitations.Priyanka looked brilliant and since I quite like Akshaye Khanna it would not be fair for me to comment on him, as he always looks good, or so I believe.

For all those whove watched it, they would not believe anyone could like a film like this but hey there people, I DO.For those who have not go watch it, its worth a watch. But remember No ExpectatAions eh!

Have seen quite many star writer out here writing mostly on movies & so thought many be this is the secret to being a star writer. Write reviews on Movies. Well I am not a bollywood freak so decided to hire a DVD & watch it specially to write a review.

But it was my mistake coz I chose this movie. Well actually not my choice but a suggestion by the Video Library guy. I accept it was my mistake that I did not read reviews here before going in for this movie. After watching it for just fifteen minutes I decided to drop the idea of writing this review. Reason - couldn't take this torture any more.

But had no option. The cable guy had a blackout at his end so couldn't watch any other programmes. The video library was closed for the day so couldn't order any other movies. As is it he never has what we want. So decided to go ahead with this pain.

This is a complication of the complex type seen in any relation. God knows whose doing what for whose khatir. Priyanka Chopra hires Akshay Khanna to take him for her sisters wedding in London. Sister who? Step sister Amisha Patel. But why hire a stranger to take him to a wedding. Well, she wants him to do a show that he is Priyanka's boyfriend. And why does she want him to do that. To make Dino Morea jealous. Why make Dino Morea jealous. Because he ditched her at the altar, when she was to marry Dino three years ago. She feels Dino will come back to her as she wants him to come, as she is still smitten by his love. But why would Akshay agree. Simple - Money, he is getting paid for it.

Now the twist. Who is Amisha marrying - Sunil Shetty. Who is Sunil Shetty? Turns out to be Dino's friend. Whats the twist. Dino tells Priyanka that he is sorry for what he did with her. Priyanka feels he still loves her & is happy. Dino reveals that he is does not like Priyanka but says that he as had a relationship with her step sister Amisha. Man this is confusing....

In the mean time everyones antar aatmaawakes & people start confessing their illict relationships to the other asking him to keep it a secret. Now every one know about the relationship but they dont know that the other person also knows it & tries to hide it & when this is revealed a new twist comes. Each one things that the other person is not trustworthy as he did not share this secret with them.

Amisha confesses to Sunil just before her wedding about her & Dino. Sunil is furious, calls it quits & goes to bash up Dino. Here Akshay has really fallen for Priyanka & so leaves the money & returns back as he does not want to charge his love.

As expected, in a typical Hindi Movie Sunil & Akshay meet each other on the way. Both brainwash each other & convince them to get back to their sweethearts & both go back hand in hand. Both get married & live happily ever after.

Sorry to bore you guys. Imagine my plight watching this crap. Thank god I didn't even think of seeing it in the theater.

So how was your five minutes torture reading this. Feel like abusing me - go ahead - the comments section is all yours. I wont blame you for it.

The only reason I am commenting on this movie is to save others the time and money that they will waste on it.

A complete waste of the star cast and music. But the movie definitely gave me one valuable insight and that is the reality about Priyanka Chopra's acting caliber. I had starting doubting her abilities as an actress in KRISH but after this movie I can confidently say that she is a good face and figure but absolutely no acting abilities.

Lucky for her that she is cast alongside Amisha Patel in this movie who was acting as if under the influence of something (I have no clue what). This must have been probably the worst performance of her career!

Also, for no reason whatsoever the female starcast is severely underdressed...so guys have fun but don't expect any genuine humour here.

The only saving grace is the attempt at credibility by Akshaye Khanna and Anupam Kher in their acting!

So if you still want to try and sit thru this movie may you have all the very best of luck for the brave attempt!

Aap ki khatir....tries...but fails......
Oct 08, 2006 01:49 PM3093 Views

The only reason why I saw this film was because of Dharmesh darshan...I loved his previous works.....

I never got a chance to see it in the multiplexes...so I saw it recently ion the original video......

AAP KI KHATIR can be divided into 2 parts......

1) The pre-interval portion

2) The post-interval portion

AAP KI KHATIR starts off well....with the Priyanka-Akshaye track....Then the london track...the songs...the screenplay,...evertything goin on in the right manner.....

But then comes the most stupid part of any of the films I saw in recent times....the post-interval portions....they are so stupid and childish.....the amisha patel track is fine...but if only it would,ve been written more consistently...It starts and ends and then again starts and ends....God only knows what the director wanted to do!!!!!

The direction is very very half baked...cinematography is the most dissapointed thing....music is the only saving grace about the film......

Akshaye khanna excels again after 36 CHINA TOWN

Priyanka chopra is fine...

Amisha patel is okay..

Sunil shetty is stupid..

Dino morea is perfect.....

and the other cast...is dependable...

At the whole,AAP KI KATIR dissapoints.....BIG TIME......

Paise Ki Khatir

First of all, I saw this movie at Aurora theater in Mumbai. It was only at nights that this picture was beamed in the theater. So anyways,i get the tickets for the 9:30 pm show and then leave home at 9:10 pm because I live nearby. So anyways, reached the theatre and was let inside only at 9:45 pm which I didnt mind. So I took my seat which was F-12 and sat down hopin for a good time and prove the reviewers of papers who said that it was a flop movie wrong.

The movie started after the national anthem. The start was the Aap Ki Khatir remixed track which had priyanka and akshaye khanna grooving to the song. As I looked around the theatre I saw that in the balcony where I was sitting there were only about 20 people in the entire balcony section. So the movie began with the telephone ring and a woman asleep in her bed face down. As the telephone wasn't picked up, the answering machine started and a man started speaking. As soon as this guy finished speaking, the lady was revealed to be Priyanka chopra who got up as soon as she could and before she could talk, the phone was disconnected. After that its a story of how Priyanka has hired Akshaye Khanna to be her escort to her step sister's wedding just to make her ex- boyfriend Danny(played by Dino Morea) jealous. Akshaye Khanna makes his entry at the airport, he rambles on and on about being from Lokhandwala Complex which is said every single time he meets someone and its sad. In small doses its ok but every single time its a no-no.

The story moves to London where she and Akshaye are at Priyanka's house which is in preparation for her step-sisters(Amisha Patel who hides a secret) wedding to a business tycoon Kunal(Sunil Shetty in a below-average role). The story is that the step sisters are really good friends and their parents played by Lillete Dubey and Anupam Kher were single parents who married each other for the girls sake. Anyways, Danny(Dino Morea) also arrives at the wedding as Kunal's best friend.

The rest of the story is as cliched as anything. There were 3 songs before the interval and 1 song exactly after the interval which was really annoying in my opinion. Akshaye Khanna and Priyanka Chopra have some pretty good on-screen chemistry and they do their best to make this movie a little more watchable.Sunil Shetty is wasted in this film and Amisha patel looks horrible with too much make up. Akshaye is pretty good in his role and it seems as tho he is more into comedy films these days. The greatest thing that makes this movie watchable is Anupam Kher in a well etched out role but I don't know why he would agree to this film in the first place. A average attempt by Dharmesh Darshan in the comedy genre. The music by Himesh is repetitive and other than the title track nothing else is good.Himesh should just go on a loooooong break and return when there is a demand for a new voice.

The story had some potential at the start but after that it just went downhill. Its an average movie, you could take the kids out to watch this and be entertained.

Mixture
Sep 09, 2006 07:34 PM2499 Views

I hav called it as "Mixture" b'coz this plot is a mixture of old boring movie in which u see tht a girl or a boy tries to woo the other gets together with some1 and at the last whn the person recollects he is in luv with him and has forgotten of the earlier person and in this movie they tried to create or just added there star caste by adding suniel shetty and amisha patel. I don't knw wht the director was trying to cash on the story which was missing the sound track the cast or some thing which he only know's which could have saved his movie. So if u hav extra money in ur pockets or extra time thn also don't go to see this movie use it in something else something constructive and not something u might regret doing after 3 hrs.

Kissi ki khatir yeh movie mat dekhna !!
Sep 01, 2006 11:16 AM3001 Views

To go to watch a movie with a titlle like this is enough proof that I was under a spell last friday. Anyways I went to watch this movie and came out with a feeling that I was seriously under some black magic as I didnt understand anything in the movie. SO I waited for full 7 days before writing this review, to give myself enough time to be out of the spell. However, yesterday night a revelation broke into me that I was not under a spell as there was nothing more to the movie than what I understood initially.

I believe Dharmesh Darshan and his entire crew was competing to be the winner for the ' Who is the Dummest of us all' Contest. The movie had no plot, no story, horrible dialogue, totally yuck humour and above all the worst acting. All the actors were close but Amisha won the 'Whos is the dummest of us all' contest with her Dumb look, dumb clothes, Dumb attitude and dumb acting & dialogue delivery. I kept thinking what good actors like Akshaye Khanna and Priyanka Chopra were doing in this movie. At any point during the shooting of the movie did they realise what they were doing?? Is money so important that you really disappoint the audiences so much.

As if all this was not enough, Dharmesh Darshan took the pains to get Himesh Topi for music to test the limits of our patience and torture. I think all of you have got a fair idea that the movie is sick and you shouldnt be watching it for anything in the world.

You want to know the story????? Nay there is nothing more to write...

#My escapades in the hall#
Aug 27, 2006 10:24 PM2651 Views

I walked into the cinema hall having almost no expectations from this Dharmesh-Darshan directed moivie.........unfortunately, even the little expectations I had from the movie could not be fullfilled. Lets understand why my very soul cringes at the thought of this waste of celluloid:

The movie begins with a dazed Priyanka Chopra flying to London with a male escort (Akshaye Khanna) to make her ex-boyfriend, Dino Morea, jealous and to draw him back to her. Akshaye is a guy from Lokhandwala (as he oft repeats in the movie....trying to be funny I guess) who has a weakness for money and so agrees to the job assigned to him by Priyanka. The two are on "coordial" terms, not at daggers drawn- quite surprising!

For some or the other reason, Priyanka has no car to pick her up at the airposrt even though her family in the UK lives in a palatial mansion. Akshaye Khanna, no doubt really bored by now, starts singing a romantic song and plays on his mouth organ. Anyway, we then get to meet the eccentric members of Priyanka's family, which include an old and sexy mom and a ohh-he-thinks-he's -funny dad, Anupam Kher. Frankly put, both are pains in parts of the body I cannot name on a free for all website. Now, let me tell you why Priyanka had flown to the UK: to attend her step-sister's (Amisha Patel) wedding to Suniel Shetty, who hams through a character that has no major acting involved. The parts where you see " Stupid Shetty" on screen urges most of the audience to look for crocines in their bags or purses. Amisha Patel and her pal, some gal called Bhumicka, are just plastic dolls paid to show some skin to the people who walk into the hall by mistake. What unfolds is supposed to be a tale of love, trust and betrayal but ends up becoming a mockery that blows up in Darshan's face.

Now, to understand what the title of my review means. Here is how I spent my two and a half hours in the cinema hall in the afternoon today. Walking into the cinema hall and seeing it 90% empty was a sure fire shot of understanding how BAD the movie realy was. But, having already bought the tickets, we decide to stick around and understand exactly why this movie would be so bad. We went and took our seats. Five minutes later, another family walks in and as it turned out, we had sat on their seats!! The usher requested us to change our seats, which was fine with us, as we had a vast array of seats to choose from. Then came the high point of the entire afternoon, the national anthem. Yes, this was the best part as it atleast had meaning! A couple of kids were also there in the hall, who entertained me more than the happenings on the screen. They romped about, running down the alley and stairway, and generally enjoying more attention than the happenings onscreen. After a relatively bearable first half, the interval came a s a bonus and a well-earned break. Attending nature's call at this juncture seemed to be a most enjoyable activity at this stage. But little did I know what was in store for me.......After the movie began again, the torture REALLY began.

Anupam Kher and Dubey try to liven up the screen with PJs while Darshan hopes frantically that the twists in his stories will interest the audiences. In one word, the storyline is LAME. I mean, the reason why Dino is actually there in the wedding is soooo pathetic and Suniel Shetty's reaction on knowing the truth is barely believable. An over the top Gujarati family at the climax irritates the already flabbergasted viewer further. Himesh Reshammiya belts out numbers that numb your sense of hearing , and apart from the title tarck, they are easily forgettable.

CAST PERFORMANCE

  1. Akshaye Khanna (7.5/10)

He tries and tries to emote as convincingly as Saif or SRK but he simply cannot. Though he more than justifies the tag of lead actor, he cannot lift the script to an alltogether new level. And lip syncing to Reshamiya's nasal renditions is a task beyond him!

2.Priyanka Chopra (8/10)

Suffering from poor characterization, Chopra tries her level best to make her relatable to the audience. But she too can't understand what expression her face has to be contorted into....

  1. Anupam Kher and Dubey (4/10)

They think they are funny, but their jokes are poor and comic timing is starined, if at all existent. If over enthusiasm ever killed the movie, then this is why AKK fails.

  1. Suniel Shetty and Amisha Patel (3/10)

You practically feel like throwing tomatoes at the screen whenever Shettyt or Patel come into the frame. They ham, overact and stay wooden, thoroughly angering the audience. Suniel thinks he's sexy at his age, but he looks more like a father figure while Amisha thinks she's stylish, but is there just to show her skin caked in multiple layers of makeup.

Truly terrible
Aug 27, 2006 05:45 PM3274 Views

There are some movies for which you actually feel bad if the final outcome is not as interesting as you would have expected after the first half. Aap KI Khatir is one of them.

Though the movie begins well, a series of absurd incidents over the course of time make one loose interest in the proceedings and hence dampen the effect of some fine work done in the initial reels.

Priyanka Chopra is an unmarried girl who is invited back to her parents London home to attend her younger sister's (Amisha Patel) wedding. Her ex-fiancé[Dino Morea], had dumped her without warning two years ago and he is supposed to be present there in the wedding as well..

Anxious about confronting him, she hires male escort [Akshay Khanna]to pose as her boyfriend. She intends to make her ex jealous, but her plan backfires when Akshay convinces everyone, including her, that they're madly in love.

Spolier ahead:

The ending:Amisha confesses to her fiance Sunil just before the wedding that she was in love with with Dino. Sunil chases Dino out of the wedding. Priyanka ends up with Akshay .Torture ends!

While the first half is fine, it is again not of the kind that could make a movie belong to the must-see category. Still at the least it makes you look forward to things.

But second half is one big mess. There are some incidents that make the proceedings more absurd than anything else. For example why Priyanka falls in love with Akshay Khanna? Just because Dino loves her sister Amisha? Why did Amisha hide the truth from Priyanka? Also the moblie comic track involving Anupam Kher is so corny that one can almost hear the people in the auditorium laughing at such scenes rather than laughing with them. Even the entire sequence where Akshay debates over Sunil in the name of marriage is ridiculous.

Many more situations like these make the viewer loose interest in the movie and by the time the movie reaches its final and predictable end, its time to pack bags.

Priyanka just doesn't get to do anything and her love story with Akshay appears to be a mismatch from scene one. They have as much chemistry as oil and vinegar!

If Dharmesh Darshan thought that Akshay alone would be able to lift the movie then that unfortunately doesn't happen.

Dino has just not improved over the years and still carries the same wooden expression and terrible dialogue delivery style. Liiltey Dubey and Anupam Kher irritate.Amisha seems to have lost interest in the film midway and that excessive make-up doesn’t make her boredom look any better.Sunil hams.

Overall Aap KI Khatir is a lukewarm movie with not enough merits to make it a box office winner. It is a big shame on the viewer's intelligence. Very disappointing. . I know there are much better scripts out there waiting to be made. How did this one get chosen??

Only For YOU!
Aug 27, 2006 10:54 AM3293 Views

Aap Ki Khatir is special in many ways. After so many years that Dharmesh Darshan is making a romantic comedy and therefore Aap Ki Khatir is very different from Dhadkan and Bewafaa. Also, Dharmesh has opted for Himesh Reshammiya for the music instead of his favourite music composers, Nadeem-Shravan (as both has parted ways). But Aap Ki Khatir dissppoints slightly but is worth watching.

The story of the movie: After living three years in Mumbai, Anu (Priyanka Chopra) returns to her home in London to attend her sister Shirani’s (Amisha Patel) wedding. Shiarani was getting to married USA-based Gujarati businessman Kunal (Suniel Shetty). Anu comes to London with his escort Aman (Akshaye Khanna), the proud resident of Lokhandwala!! Aman was the acting boyfriend of Anu and she has brought him to Lomdon to make his ex-boyfriend Danny (Dino Morea) jealous. Anu also wanted Danny back. An as luck would had it, Danny was Kunal’s best pal and he was also in the guest-list of Kunal and Shirani’s wedding. Anu tries her best to attract Danny back. But Danny doesn’t get attaract. The reason: He has a big secret, which he can’t share with Anu, and it is the only thing that keeps him away from Anu. So what is this big secret? And on the other hand, Aman really starts loving Anu. So what will happen next??

Aap Ki Khatir has an outstanding first half, which is full of light moments and comedy and there is not a single dull, boring and emotional moment in it. But the movie falls because of slow second half. The second half has a lot of flaws and dull moments in between because of which viewers may reject the movie. Also, Dino’s character is not described properly and one gets confused with it. But the climax is another plus point, which is again light and does not involve any ‘rona-dhona’.

Akshaye Khanna rocks this time! He carries the movie firmly on his shoulders. It was because of Akshaye’s rocking perfomance that the movie becomes likeable. Throughout the movie, he does his job nicely. Keep it up, Akshaye!

Priyanka Chopra also does a fantastic job. She looks pretty and sexy and gives a cool performance. Amisha Patel also does a good job. She does a great job in the second half, where her role had an important part to play.

Suniel Shetty gives a great performance and looks fresh throughout the movie. Dino Morea was okay and his performance was very similar to what he had done in ‘Aksar’. But though, he doesn’t disappoint his girl fans!

Newcomer Bhumicka Singh (as Nikki) was totally wasted! She had no work to do and one wonders why is she kept in the movie. Though she looks hot and gives a good performance, she should select only those movies in future, which really requires her (but I don’t think anyone would give her any offer in a A-Grade movie). Anupam Kher (as Priyanka’s dad) was funny and hilarious. Lilette Dubey (as Priyanka’s mom), as usual, peforms her part with ease. She’s great actor man!

Tiku Talsania, Kamini Khanna (and other members of Suniel’s family) included in the movie to make the viewers laugh, but they thoroughly disappoint.

W B Rao’s cinematography was perfect. Dialogues were fantastic, sharp, witty and quite humourous. It was the dialogues that made the first half humourous. Some of the fine dialogues of the movie:

  1. Aman: I am Aman from Lokhandwala!

  2. Aman: To yeh hai who toota hua taar jiske judne ke baad mein toot jaaonga!!

  3. Anu’s dad (To Aman): Tumhari Anu ke saath pehli mulakat kahan huyi?

Aman: Exactly jahaan Anu ki mulakat mere saath hui thi!

  4. Aman: Mera Lokhandwala instinct kehta hai ki ye achcha aadmi hai!

Himesh Reshammiya’s music was first-rate. The title track, the remix of the title title track, ‘Tu Hai Kamaal’, ‘I Love You For What You Are’ and ‘Meethi Meethi Baatan Karke’ rocks! ‘Tum Bin Jaayenge’ was added unnecessarily in the second half.

Dharmesh Darshan’s direction was good. It was perfect for such a movie. The direction was quite better than the direction in his last flick, Bewafaa.

Some of the nice scenes of the movie:

  1. The airport and flight sequence in the beginning.

  2. The scene where Anu’s dad interrogates Aman!

  3. The cricket sequence

  4. The climax

On the whole, Aap Ki Khatir works because of Akshaye Khanna, music, and strong first half. But it dissppoints because of the slow and slightly boring second half. But it is worth watching once. At the box office, it may be an average and ‘may’ not stay for long.

A dharmesh Darshan Catastrophe

I looked forward to this movie for a long time. The promos made it seem like a cute, fun flick, so I excitedly got a group of friends together to go see it. When I saw it, I was horrified. The acting was horrible - characters flat- and I found it difficult to become engaged with the characters. The plot seemed stale and did nothing to draw me in. There was no suspense. There was absolutely zero chemistry between the leads. AKK fails even to reach the average mark!

The story revolves around the U.K.-based Anu (Priyanka Chopra) who’s shifted base to Mumbai but hasn’t gotten over her heartbreak with her ex-boyfriend Danny (Dino Morea).

When her sister Sirani (Amisha Patel) is about to get married to Kunal (Sunil Shetty) in London, Anu finds a perfect opportunity to win back her lost love. She hires Aman (Akshaye Khanna), who works in her office, to accompany her to the wedding, posing as her boyfriend, and thereby make Danny jealous. But once in London, things change.

Danny is least interested in her and to add to Anu’s woes, he makes a confession that shatters her.

If this all sounds vague and lacking in description, it's because that's exactly what the movie is. It has an corny premise that it does absolutely nothing with it.The worst thing is I was expecting a few jokes in the movie after seeing the promos.

I only went to see the movie because I thought this was a light-hearted romantic comedy. I did get a few jokes, but they were so bad that not a single soul in the theater squeezed out a laugh.

Every line/minute of the movie amazes you with its predictability and stupidity. Dialogs are blunt, dull and straight out of 70s style Bollywood. The whole story is directed so bad that you wish you had the power to ban the director Dharmesh Darshan from making any more movies.

If the first half has some interesting moment ,Writer completely loses grip in the second half. The three day love development Akshay and Priyanka is directed in a way that you do not really see it. There is no sparks flying, no connection between two main characters and the emotions and the process of falling in love is not very convincing.More than anything else, one fails to understand why Priyanka really want to win back the man who humiliated her ?

The film is embellished with some good songs [himesh], but how one wishes they were promoted aggressively. 'I love u' and 'MAHIYA' stand out. Cinematography is alright.

Dino looks suave and carries off his part with confidence although his characterisation is underdeveloped.

Priyanka goes over the top completely. In a supporting role, Amisha was a standout as Priyanka's sister. Whenever she came on screen, she served as a spark plug and catalyst for the film's energy. Perhaps if Amisha had been cast in the role of Anu, the film might have had more dynamism.

But It is Akshay Khanna who steals the show with an amazing performance every time he appears on screen. He lends dignity to the character and walks away with honours. Another flawless performance this!Sunil Shetty is expressionless.Lili Dubey carries one expression throughout, whether happy or sad. Anupam Kher doesn't impress.

On the whole, Aap ki Khatir is a weak film in all respects. Lack of hot star cast and dull initial response will prove unfavourable for the film.

What a letdown!

Cast-Akshay Khanna ,Priyanka Chopra ,Amisha Patel ,Dino Morea

Director-Dharmesh Darshan

Release Date-25th August ,2006

Wow, I was so very surprised by how truly awful this movie is. There is not a single original idea in this film. It is neither funny nor touching, there is no chemistry between Akshay and Priyanka and everyone is trying to hard without succeeding on any level.

I won't bore you with the plot, except to say that it involves your sexy damsel, Priyanka, seeking out Akshay Khanna as a male escort. She needs him to escort her to her sister's wedding in England. It is supposed to be strictly a business arrangement.

The movies fails on every level, and it's not like I was expecting something super to begin with. The acting is awful, the characters have no depth . The story is just a mishmash, focusing on a woman trying to make her ex jealous by hiring a male escort and then flying him to London to be her guest at her sister's wedding. That's it. Not to mention the fact that some serious scenes were written into it, which failed miserably.

How bad could it be, you ask? After all, it's just a romantic comedy, right? Let's start with the story. They must have edited out all the scenes that depict a growing affection between Akshay Khanna and Priyanka. Even though we know this is inevitable in a movie like this, I didn't see it or feel it.

Why a guy like Akshay would be attracted to a woman like Priyanka because she is is neither witty nor endearing. Add to this the complete lack of chemistry between them and you have a romance that doesn't add up and doesn't make you cheer. Their timing, body language, and emotional connection is just plain bad or non-existent .

While the viewer is actually able to guess what the next sequence will be like, it is to the credit of director Dharmesh Darshan that the film does engage you in patches. Though a few sequences do keep your faith in his abilities alive, the film is simply no patch on the maker's immensely entertaining products like Dhadkan and Raja HIndustani.

Yet another shortcoming is that the screenplay is disjointed and at places, that of convenience. While the first half is hardly engaging thanks to an overdose of songs – in fact, three songs follow one after the other in very quick succession – the film does show signs of improvement in the post-interval portions. But the second half is highly erratic – the pace picks up and drops at amazing regularity!

Director Dharmeshi is handicapped by a poor story and a weak screenplay that he chose to believe in. The only factor that you carry home is the songs which are simply wonderful.

Priyanka looks tired at some places and fresh in some. There's inconsistency in her looks.Dino gets no scope. Amisha is quite nice. She looks alluring and makes her presence felt.Akshay plays to the gallery. . Dino and Sunil have nothing worthwhile to do.

AKK is a formulaic film but given the mindset of today's audiences, a subject like this will hardly find takers. Below average.

A sweet romantic comedy

If you see a preview for Aap Ki Khatir before you go see it, you understand what type of movie this is. I was dragged to this film at the last minute. I did not expect much. I had heard that the reviews were terrible. I was pleasantly surprised. Shocked, more like it. I actually liked it. This may not be the classic flick, but it is sweet and well done for what it is.

In this sparkling romantic comedy,Priyanka plays Anu, a never-married Mumbaiker, who is invited to her parents London home for her younger sister[Amisha Patel]'s wedding. What should be a joyous occasion bodes disaster for Anu, however, when she discovers that the best man will be none other than her ex-fiancé[Dino Morea], who, two years before, inexplicably dumped her.

In a desperate attempt to face the ordeal with dignity, she hires Akshay Khanna, a professional male escort, to pose as her new boyfriend and follow her to the wedding. For Anu, what starts out as a pretend relationship with Akshay begins to turn into something entirely unexpected.

Must say a cute, non-threatening premise, for a genuinely cute, non-threatening, romantic comedy. You can't go in expecting masterpiece, because that's not what you'll get. AKK, however, is a glorious, indulgent movie that will leave you smiling.

The lead characters Akshay and Priyanka are a perfect match for each other There are several belly laughs coupled with a few moist-eyed moments making this a very good movie for teens and the young at heart, regardless of age.

As a director, Dharmesh Darshan is good. The light sequences in the first half or the interval point have been shot remarkably. But one of the major flaw is that the film has an urban look and feel to it and only a faction of cinegoers would take to this kind of a script.

Himesh’s music sounds good to the ears. The title track and Jaise’ can easily be singled out. The choreography of the title track in particular is spectacular. Cinematography is first-rate.

Akshay Khanna makes a sincere attempt to look the character. Dino looks cool as the casanova.Priyanka comes up with another superb performance, essaying her part with utmost sincerity. Amisha is another performer who does justice to her role.Sunil is alright.

Granted, it may not be nominated for any Filmfare awards, but it rates high marks as the movie's entertainment value is clearly worth the price of box office admission. I left the theater giggling to myself...
