This is a true incident of an old couple who runs their life by selling some vegetables in rajendra nagar near borivali station (E) Mumbai. Old man has some eyesight problem (cataracts) and old lady also has some problem in her leg. First time I saw them when I went to market with my wife that was a rainy night. They were ready to go home after selling vegetables. They were waiting for an auto in that rainy night. They both were totally wet and literally shivering. As they were old near 80, no autowala was ready to stop. My wife was buying some vegetables and I was just seeing them constantly. After taking vegetables I asked my wife to get one auto for them, they sat in by saying dhanyawaad (thanks) and went home.
One day we went to them for giving some money just to help them but that granny (old lady) denied to take money from us. She said “tu bhaaji ghe tyachi mi paise ghein” (take vegetables and give money for that). That time she was very happy by knowing that such types of people are still there who at least think about us.
After that evening whenever we passed from that market we buy some vegetables from them just to do some kind of help. After some days for some period we didn’t saw them and just discussed about them that what will be happened to them why they are not there. We enquired about them by asking some people who sits just besides them to sell vegetables but they were also not aware about it.
We were just tensed and just thinking about them why they are selling vegetables at this age since they are 80+ years old they must be having son or some young people at their home who can take care of them etc… But we were not getting satisfactory answers. So we started talking about their life with them.
One day my wife went to that market for getting some vegetables for home, that evening as usual she was talking to them about their children’s & she came to know that they were having four daughters & three sons out of them two sons & one daughter got died long back because of their illness .
Other daughters got married & staying in andheri somewhere, & one boy got married & staying nearby them only but he & his wife both are addicted to alcohol & their sons are doing some jobs & taking care of them .This grandpa (old man) was having two rooms of his own, one where they are staying right now, and other one he had given to his son who is not doing anything instead of having alcohol. But after this also that son is not taking care of them in this stage ...When they are 80+.
My wife just asked about their food arrangement that time they said just opposite to us there is a small hotel ,they were providing food for free of cost when their first owner was there but now we don’t know that new person, they don’t provide food to us. So now we make it sometimes or we have whatever we get it from others. When she was leaving from there she just left her mobile number with them & told them to call whenever they needed for any help from us.
So people we always get calls from some trust or some organizations to help them in terms of money & because of some false stories we don’t trust them & we don’t help them, just because we think that they will misuse our money on the name of these helpless people. But if you are really feel sometime to help some people ,help them whom you know or whom you will feel to help but personally not indirectly through any trust or organization.
