On one hand where the increase in the number of credit cards is an indication of growing digital payments, excessive use of credit cards has also led to the expansion of retail borrowers in the ecosystem.

To further account for the increase in the use of credit cards, founder of Yap, which offers a platform for all forms of payment solutions to banks, NBFCs and fin-tech companies has mentioned that the number of unique credit card users are in the range of 25 to 30 million. 

According to Economic Times, consumers spent around Rs 6 lakh crore using their credit cards between 2018-19, 30% higher from the Rs 4.6 lakh crore in 2017-18. Number of credit cards issued by the banks can be seen below:
