Very useful Now that USB 2.0 has been banished from all self-respecting storage, we find USB 3 as the standard for connection, letting these portable drives perform as quickly as the little disks inside will allow.

This means that when transferring your music or video collection to or from your PC, you can expect around 100MB/s read speed ( and typically the same for writing, since unlike flash storage technology the read and write speeds tend to be more symmetrical) . Compare this with the older drives using USB 2.0, which would limit speeds to around 35MB/s, or only one-third the speed. So in real terms, your 100GB of media files would take close to an hour to transfer with USB 2.0, or under 20 minutes using USB 3.0.

If you’re likely to be storing or backing up many small files, be aware that overall performance will plummet since hard disks tend to choke on smaller files. So while large files may zip across at 100MB/s, the smallest will likely travel at less than 1MB/s, or one hundredth that speed.

USB 3 is confusing, as USB 3.0 was retrospectively renamed to USB 3.1 Gen 1. There’s also a new version, USB 3.1 Gen 2. This doubles the potential throughput from Gen 1’s 5Gb/s to 10Gb/s. In megabytes per second, these equate to 625 and 1250 respectively. Pretty fast, then. In reality, the fastest SSDs top out at around 550MB/s and this speed is highly dependent on the device you’re connecting it to.

Great product, the finish on top is very stylish - this is an added bonus as this is not really an item or accessory on display but it looks great on the desk so I don't normally remove it from my system unless I have to.

Nothing wrong with the product but initially they sent me the wrong model(after paying extra for express delivery) and giving me the 1TB model instead of the 2TB model. They corrected it, collected it back and sent me the replacement within 36hrs(yes, that fast!) But the fact is that I paid extra to get the device in the same amount of time that I should have even if I hadn't, and thats not a good feeling.

In terms of the product, the cable is a proprietary samsung cable(I remember the same cable being used on the Galaxy Note 3). Its solid and thick, the only improvement I would suggest is that they could have made it longer. If you're connecting it to your TV, its so short that its literally hanging midway to the cabinet base. Had to prop it up with some support but then its not a clean set up. Will buy a separate longer cable for it eventually.

Its usb 3.0 compatible, and I transferred about 300Gb of data in multiple chunks. I got a good transfer rate considering that my PC was busy doing many other things at the same time(~70-95Mb/s) which is pretty darn decent. Great for regular use and backups - definitely recommend.

Perfect hard drive for daily usage. I had purchased this harddisk from online store in 4995 rs 2 years ago. till now work perfect. It come with inbuild segate protection software. with good copy speed upto 40 mbps inusb 3 connection and 20 mbps on usb 2. Its very light weight and compact you can easily carry in ur pocket. Currently I was facingone problem that usb cable may get loose .it connect and disconnect automaticaly some time. may be that because I dont remove cable from harddisk after use. otherwise good harddisk and durable .

I am using the samsung M3 1TB portable hard drive since the last 2 years, the hard disk is build by Seagate while it is branded by Samsung.Never faced a problem using this hard disk.It is a plug and play device.

The HDD is compatible with USB 3.0 so as to make the data transfer faster. The exterier of the HDD has such a design that it would not slip from our hand.It is very compact as that of a size of querty mobile phone.
