Even the thought of looking into those deep eyes make me sad, her eyes say everything, the childhood she never had, the responsibility thrown into her at an young age, the strain she is trying to hide, the deep grief she has that no one seems to understand,
Those eyes belong to my maid's daughter who is of my age probably, she had to discontinue her studies after the 10th standard, my maid couldn't afford college, she has been coming to my house with her mother for almost 15 years...
Over a year or so my maid has slowly introduced her daughter to household work, but she did get an opportunity to work(stuff like billing, packing, sorting) in a mall that opened recently near my place, a good salary and not that much work compared to all the work she was doing..
My mom seemed to be more enthusiastic than her, she forced her to join and convinced my maid as well as she would have much less workload compared to what she was doing now, she did join and even worked for a day, as fate would have it, my maid's family dint approve of it, they accused her of speaking to guys (find it very lame) and the poor girl was back to her normal thing..
I just was so disheartened to hear that, we live in a society where a girl cant choose where she wants to work? We talk about this 21st century Indian woman, where is she? People say education is the solution to all the problems, this girl is educated at least to some extent and still she is unable to stand up for herself!!
My mom's attempts to convince her to re join are in vain, that girl now doesn't want to work there and says she is happy helping her mom out.. happy or not I don't know!!
