It was Saturday. Snigdha got up late. When she woke up, she saw Meghna roaming in the room.
“Good morning Ma……..Ma what are you doing?”
“Good morning Babu…you got up. I am just looking at your books and stuff. Ok, well get up quickly, I have a surprise for you”
“Surprise!”Her eyes widened.“What surprise Ma?”
Snigdha held her hand and they both climbed the stairs. Jackie was even quicker. There was a room on the terrace, used as store room. It took her a week to rearrange it.
Snigdha saw the door. There were three caricatures, a boy, a girl and a dog. Below them was written, we and Jackie – the dream room. Snigdha was thrilled.
“My room!” She looked at Meghna. Meghna smiled and said “Yes, our room”
And she turned the handle. As she entered, what she saw was breath taking.
The sunlight entering through the window made the room brighter than usual. The clouds on the roof, and a sun smiling from a side. On the other side, a rainbow stretched from two clouds, upside down and covered the whole right wall. On the left wall were strings running from edge to edge in a zigzag pattern, and there were animal faces on that string with some distance between them. They were actually clips.
The room was almost empty. There was a stand, drawing board, lots of paint brushes, crayons, pencils, erasers, sharpeners in a big basket. A packet of drawing sheets and a drawing book also smiled at Snigdha.
There was a low sitting arrangement on the other side. A chair with apt height was kept next to the stand.
Snigdha could not believe it. She looked around, touched everything to make sure that it was for real and then she ran to hug Meghna. As she hugged her, Parul entered. Snigdha was shocked. “Mam, what are you doing here?”
Parul smiled. She was her art teacher. Meghna insisted her to visit them on weekends and help Snigdha, to which she readily agreed as she felt Snigdha has potential, and a little guidance would give her right direction and boost.
Snigdha was puzzled.
“Babu, Mam will come every Saturday and Sunday to help you in your drawings. Is it ok?” Snigdha was jumping with joy.
Meghna spent some time every day in the dream room. She would look at her drawings, keep the things in place, clip her drawings, and make sure she is not short of anything.
She would even peep in when Snigdha would be there; ask her, what is she drawing, learnt the concept of warm and cold colours from her, mixing, and now she was telling her the proportions of colours to get the perfect skin tint. She is growing up so fast -Meghna wondered.
Raghav was roaming around. Jackie was taking his nap in his mud bed. She saw her making some figures, she waited patiently till she completed. There was Snigdha, Raghav, dad, mom and Jackie. My family – and she smiled.
