Acupuncture was first discussed in the ancient Chinese medical text "Huang Di Nei Jing", (The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine), that originated more than 2000 years ago.

During the 6th Century the communications in the Asian Continent led to the introduction of Chinese medicine to Japan, and along with Buddhism came in the form of religious medicine.

Acupuncture therapy is to promote health and alleviate pain and suffering.

Medical doctor monitor the blood flowing through blood vessels and the messages traveling through the nervous system. An acupuncturist assesses the flow and distribution of this "vital energy" within its pathways, known as "meridians and channels".

I First Learned About Acupuncture:

When I was in Beijing I heard about acupuncture when I saw an Acupuncture Kit for sail in a Friendly Foreigner Store. The kit had a rubber doll that had red dots on it, (I presumed they were where you put the needles to help various problems. By the doll were an assortment of needles. I could see a pamphlet below the doll and I presumed it was instructions in a variety of languages, (because of the store it was in).

The box was closed and they wouldn't let me open it. I bought it anyway. My husband is scared of needles and I thought this would be a perfect gift for him.

When he opened his gift he almost fainted. I took out the brochure and found the instructions were in Chinese.

My Experience:

I wanted to quit smoking and nothing worked so I read about a man who was giving acupuncture treatments to help people stop smoking. I booked an appointment and went to see him. I didn't know that at that time in Canada needles couldn't be used, just round silver balls. I wore the balls behind my ear for 3 weeks. I didn't crave a cigarette the entire time. When he removed them the first thing I did when I got into my car was to get out a cigarette and smoke it!

A few years later I had migraine, (every month) and a few cluster headaches. Pills were not helping and the only thing that did was when I went to the hospital and they gave me a something to go to sleep for a day. I decided to try acupuncture again. This time Acupuncturists could apply to the Medical Associations and if they past the criteria they could use needles. I went for 4 treatments but it didn't stop me from smoking.

I don't smoke now because one day I just decided to stop!

MY Migraine Tip:

When I feel the headache start I put my thumb and third finger of one hand between the thumb and second finger and rub it for a few minutes. Then I do the other side. By then the headache is gone.

Warning:

While undergoing therapy other problems might happen. Please consult your doctor before trying Acupuncture.

My Conclusion:

It didn't stop me from smoking and it didn't help my headakes but that doesn't mean it won't help you with your heath problems.
