Toyota Etios Liva VD Limited Edition Reviews

Bangalore India
Lousy Interiors
Sep 20, 2011 01:41 AM 12849 Views

Really disappointed with the interiors! Toyota had an opportunity to gain a huge market share thanks to performance/ brand nam, e in the hatchback segment. But with lousy/ cheap interiors they have blown it away. Customers do not care so much about paying 25k-50k more in pricing for a good product. Check out Jazz for instance.

Toyota has become synonomous with cheap interiors/ cutting costs at the wrong places - now in India thanks to this product and this image will stay.

I brought a new TOYOTA LIVA and I am very happy about its performance, looks, Intrior A/c vents, Cooled glove box, bottle holders to all doors and at last its space. The car is very smooth to drive its seats are very comfortable for long journey. And I BIG THING ALL FIVE PASSENGERS SITS VERY COMFORTABLE.

I completed 1000km in just 20days and went for Service. Dealer at Kolhapur DSK TOYOTA .It was very quick at service and the treatment to customers is very nice. I got my car serviced in front of my eyes in 1hr I was very pleased to see such service station of toyota.

I am thinking to owe another car of TOYOTA.

Bangalore India
Adequate for City and next to K-series only

Before I detail in my short experience with Liva. A limited intro about myself. I’m 5’11” and my experience with cars starts from Ambassador, Padmini, 118NE( One of the two Made in India luxury cars at that time, other one was Contessa). Apart from these I miss a complete almost past 2 decades of new vehicles when it comes to driving them personally but as a passenger experienced them all; under 10 lacs category. Starting from 1000 to Sienna, Swift, i20, City etc… In abroad driven cars(not less than 1800 cc) for a shorter period of 1.5 yrs.

Now back to foremost topic i.e Liva experience.

Went to Nandi Toyota(Hosur Road) where this little master was on display. After looking all around the car and checking it back to back with Etios .Here are my observation.

  • Altough the salesperson told me only about 2 major differences between Liva and Etios i.e

  • Engine capacity

  • Boot

But I’ve found the 3rd point after careful observation.

  1. The rear bench .In Liva the cushioning comfort is not the same as in Etios Sedan. Though the recline angle of the seat is same but Liva has got a thin and slightly short height seat. The headrest is positioned lower because of the roof which tapers down exactly at that position hence difficult to accommodate the genius Indian head comfortably while in resting state.

I’ll not get into other details as the interiors like dashboard, seats.are exactly the same as in Etios with availability of space inside.

Now moving away differentiating from Elder Brother Etios - will jump into the overall package war in hatchback category. The test car was doing rounds of test drive with prospective customers eagerly waiting for their call from the salesperson . Finally after a short wait my turn came and as expected the cabin was already in super cool state. So left largely to conclude upon the ride characteristics for urban as well as highway needs.

Ignition on …Engine noise is very well in acceptable range for a petrol car. The previous week took a test drive of Etios and observed a slight amount of vibration in doors with somewhat higher engine noise(read sporty) intruding inside the cabin. In Liva didn’t experience the same. It appeared normal to me like in other 1200 cc cars.

Ride dynamics is superb for car weighted below a ton, even at 140KM/HR SPEED. Gear shifting was a breeze with fun in maneuvering the steering. Clutch engagement was also light and precise. More than 4-5 times tested the initial pickup from standstill to good speed(which in my opinion is the need of many). Ahaa.It delighted me considering the engine capacity.

For almost more than a year I use to travel along with my Boss in his car(U-VA) and while commuting I always used to mutely recollect Sunny Deol’s punch dialogue(the one where he exhibits his anger behind the bars) from movie Ghayal. This was the situation every time the need was to pull the vehicle in a pleased manner in stop and go traffic. Although a sturdy well build car but I never got impressed with it for city driving despite a generous space and comfortable seating in particular.

Liva scores high in this aspect when compared to all 1200 cc hatchback except Swift. But for me the Maruti gem does not fulfill one of my major requirement; for every family member to hold a comfortable seating position in rear seat(Everyone in family is close to 6 feet). After evaluating limited options(Swift, i20)and seeing the pictures of Honda Brio with those falling rear windshield. I think I would settle down for this small Toyota despite the dated / bland interiors but since it fulfills my criteria of

  • Mileage(Not aware but since Etios feedback in Bangalore city is for 11-12 .Assuming Liva’s mileage would definetly be 1.5 kms more)

  • Seating for 5 tall build persons

  • Perfect combination of Engine, Transmission and bit of fun factor while driving.

  • Lot of accessories from company available to make it near to higher variant offerings.(of course not a defogger and wiper)

After convincing myself to live with this kind of interiors the only design deficiency found was with AC vents.

Cannot completely close the vent, still a good amount of air flows even after closing the vent properly.

I think for the kind of packaging and pricing done for all variants. G(sp) appears practical.

For this variant we can get the additional crome rings on AC vents with crome Toyota logo on steering wheel as spare part. Otherwise the interior appears very uninspiring to look everyday. Also for extra comfort some more padding is required in rear seat with wide headrest through aftermarket solution.

Showroom staff indicated on max waiting of 45 days but they sounded unconfident when asked for waiting period by colors. So thinking this could well be upto 3 months during initial period or may be it is possible to get early at least in Bangalore. Will purchase after 2-3 months.

Judgement based on 10 hatchbacks : Liva Not Good
Jul 06, 2011 01:35 PM 17730 Views

Pros: Toyota Brand Name, Cheaper Car Cons: Not having a great Looks, Cheaper plastics, AC vent not designed correctly. Description: After Test drive of 10 Hatch Backs judgement. After a Liva drive. My feelings

Look and Style

Exterior

Even though it looks similar to Etios from Front, I like the rear part, its deisgned more better than Etois.Etios has a Ambasador or Ceilo back, something uncommon. In case of Liva toyota has given more care as it has beutifully designed rear.

In the lot for exterior style: I feel Fiat Punto wins, followed by Suzuki Swift, Liva, hyndai i10, Ford Figo, Ritz, Micra, Vista,

Interiors:

Main issue in Liva is its position of Speedometer which is in the centre. Why Liva & Vista has placed it in centre. Eventhough it is becoming common, personally I feel is looks odd.Quality of Seat, postion of AC vents, Stereo and seats Liva look very much odd in the lot.

My rating for Interors will beSwift, Ritz, hyundai i10, Fiat Punto, Ford Figo, Micra followed by Liva & Vista.

Comfort

For Long drive:

Order will be Hyndai i10, Ritz, Swift, Fiat Punto, Micra, Vista, Liva, Figo.

For City drive:

Order will be Ritz, Micra, Figo, Hyndai i10, Swift, Fiat Punto, Vista, Liva.

Pickup Swift, Ritz, Hyndai i10, Fiat Punto, Figo, Vista, Micra, Liva

Mileage

Fiat Punto, Vista, Figo, Ritz, Swift, Hyndai i20, Liva, Micra

Best Features

Nothing specific only Toyota Badge.

Needs to improve

Interiors and Good engine.

Overall Experience

Choose Better options available. Thinkof Service centres, spare cost, features, security, stability for long drives, and Mileage.

My Rating for Hatch backs will be

  1. Fiat Punto,

  2. Swift,

  3. Polo

  4. Ritz(for people who like the rear),

  5. Hyndai i10

  6. Vista

  7. Figo

  8. Micra

9.Liva

  1. Fabia(Price as well as Spares Cost very high)

Not included Hyndai i20 and Honda Jazz because it doesnot match the Price Range.

Reason for FIAT Punto to get the first place is 1. Mileage 2. Safety(ABS and 5 Star rating by EuronCap) https://euroncap.com/tests/fiat_punto_2005/238.aspx 3. feature rich(Bluetooth from Microsoft, Km to Empty, Instant Consumption, Strong Body, Sporty Steering) 4. Superb Service Backup from Tata. Under the Tata badge FIAT has improved the Technical facility). Availability of Service Centre everywhere. 5.Cheaper Spares. Polo Has decent mileage, Classic interiors - World class. Disadvantages are Costly parts, Service Cost and non availability of service centre.

I am buying this car and the space inside this car is less the fuel consumption is high the turning radiosis high the comfort is lacking in it the performance of the engine is not good and the ac does not work properly.

this car is very bad quality of body, very weak body, even if stand aside your car a little pressure on body will  make a doest on your car, it is a playing toy car yes for sure it is.

If  you punch your car body of car will get a big dent, why are using such poor quality of material.

Tata must be better than this making people fool 6lac rupees.

Seats are also very poor design I think maruti also is good over this car  that too you will get alto car in this price.

The all new Toyota etics liva is a new car from toyotas end and a lot of expectations were there from customers end regarding is launch but when it was launched all the expectations were reined as their car did not stand on any of the bench mark of the customers.

I don't recommend for Toyota car any one do not buy this.
