Toyota Etios GD SP

I am using the vehicle in goa a little more than two months.initially I found mileage was around 12 km per litre. Realized driving in goa peak hours one drives first, second or third gear.took trip to pawas near ratnagiri winding roads , ghats, but mileage not less than 17.94km fuel tank top to top.now that I am more familiar I get around16 plus in 1200km.

I also drive my zen98 model which I still love and will not discard .frankly I am loving etios more as it is a pleasure to drive.

I had bought a toyata etios from sharayu toyata verna Goa in feb . I initial joy was limited bcoz of the mileage it gives I get just about 10 km to a litre .I asked people at the showrrom abt it they said it will improve after 10000 km it was a real stupid answer ...

Company promises 17.8 to a litre. I am thinking of  going to some kind of redresal forum....Even the plastic quality is bad but thats bearable but not this mileage in this era of high fuel prices

I am a new entrant in this blog, I would like to make my opinions and highlight few points on Etios. Firstly I own a WagonR and was not happy with the seating capacity, other than that everything was perfect… long drives were difficult for 4, 5 adults and a kid. Keeping in view the service offering I had planned for Swift Dzire, and there started the car hunt, and it was crazy man.

We visited many dealers, checked specs of most of the cars, somehow I was not interested in Etios, it was just Dzire, Dzire and Dzire. But again the rear seat was fine in Dzire, but not spacious enough. Over and above that the bulky size reminded me the great Ambassador. I test drove a Dzire and was very happy with the car.

But before booking Dzire, I wanted to have a look at Etios, there was lots of reference to this car and its space etc..etc… and the moment I saw this car, I felt its not bad, had no reasons to reject, looks cute, but the interior looked just OK. Seats were fine, the rear bench was fantastic with lots of place to keep things… earlier I had lots of apprehension towards centre speedo console, I hated vista for that reason.

But the Etios was different, the centre console looks great, the positioning and angling is perfect. My first impression was like this car was developed by lot of brainy Indians, but not a good fashion designer. I think Totota should have hired a fashion designer. Otherwise it is a great invention.  Especially the glove box with an AC vent, you don’t find it in many cars.  End of the day, I was confused and bit disappointed as Dzire was fading away from my dreams.

Next day along with my wife, visited the dealer, and had a test drive. She loved the space and interiors. “Cute car” that was her opinion. While sitting in the back seat we had sufficient space for our legs, and daughter to move freely from left to right. Guys if you have small kids, pl take this car, we used to have tough time when we had to take our kids on lap and they start getting restless, they start kicking left and right and the journey becomes a nightmare. Here my daughter, 7yrs, can move freely from one corner to other with 3 passengers seated behind, great Na.

My test drive was great, the engine has great power, steering perfect, large boot, the view of road, its amazing guys. Dealer quotes a good mileage figure…

Many people refer to single wiper as cost cutting, but I think an additional wiper will not cost more than Rs.1K to manufacture in bulk. There is science behind a single wiper, please note this aspect....Toyota R&D has done a lot of home work and will not buy a single wiper concept as cost cutting ?

The only cons were the noise levels in the interiors, should check it after getting the car, we are waiting for the arrival. I read reviews about Yaris, and that was also a good car in US, so no point referring to an old model and making tall claims. To conclude you should like the car, the way it is and the way it is not !

1. Single wiper might not cover driver's side fully during rain.

   
   




2. No rear speaker - Speakers cannot be installed on rear door. Also, additional speakers need to be installed at owners cost behind rear seat.

   
   




3. AC vents on front side are on left hand side. This might cause some uncomfortable to both the driver and the front passenger.

   
   




4. The speedometer is at the centre of the front panel. many drivers may find this little awkward.

   
   




5. The current waiting time for delivery is around 7-8 months.

   
   

It would be better to wait for ETIOS -Diesel variant which would be launched within 6 months and is expected to be priced only 20-25K more than it's corresponding petrol variant.

Diesel variant would give more mileage.

Full Review    I made a test drive too for about 2 Kms, Initially my plan is to have a test drive and book this ETIOS VX, I test drove the top end version VX model.THE Silver colour Etios looked stunning, The explanation is below.

Exterior On my first view When I entered the show room I could appreciate the look department, Quite amazing Stunning looks. Good Master piece from Toyota I thought. but still I didnt go near the car because the car was under test drive process for the customer who came before me.

Interior(Features, Space & Comfort) When I went near I was very much disappointed about the car. I opened the door and closed again .The sound of the car door does not seems good. I was very much disappointed hearing the noise.The door material is not very strong.this reduces the car weight which will help increase the fuel economy of the car.I had lot of questions inside me Is this a TOYOTA car? As my view toyota always produces a good quality car which fails here in Toyota ETIOS. Then the door handles are also not so good compared to other cars in this price range. Then next is music system.The four speakers are present on the front side and I didnt like that. The sound quality also didnt impress me.But yet you get a DVD Player installed in it. Plastics quite ok. Feels like can manage with that. Lightings in the pannel also doesnt impress me.In the same way for cost cutting they reduced two wipers in to one. I dont know how it is going to be Effective Same way I didnt even like the cable operated head light adjuster which is very down market.

The AC vent is excellent.good throw.I enjoyed that.clapps to toyota ETIOS for the good throw of A/C vents which directly hit the back seaters. NOW to the back seats. Two People can sit on the(FLOOR) leg room space and have lunch. That much Leg room Space then ETIOS have.BUT lacks Lateral support.You will feel uncomfortable if you want to go for a long journey. Next is coming to the door it lacks rubber insulation on the door sides. This makes the door vibrate when I operated the power windows(Back Door)But didnt try in other doors. It made me unhappy at one point of time. BOOT space is the best ever compared to all cars. Two people can sleep inside. Enormous space(595 ltrs).

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Good stunning responsive engine.Pick up is awesome even at third gear.Inside the city traffic it is the rock star.Because it will make the driver quite easy to drive.Braking no doubt. very good.Toyota People say you will get a fuel economy around 16 per litre.Lets hope for the best. Next is gear shift. Gear shift is good.But the knock from the gear was not very much impressing me.But still good.

Ride Quality & Handling Coming to the handling departments its the best. Good responsive steering. Sporty shaped and good looking. BUT the turning radius is more.But it is satisfactory. Road visibility is the best in class.Till now I didnt see any vehicle having this much road presence. I have drove several cars with in price range of 25 lakhs in which I was not able to have a road presence like this ETIOS. Good work by the Toyota people in ride quality and Handling department.

Final Words Overall the car is ok but it is not up to standard of TYOTAS BRAND VALUE.openly saying I did not book the Etios. Overall you need to take the decision based on the usage of the car.If you are frequently user think twice before you buy. If you use only occasionally ETIOS will satisfy your needs.Good city car.But I was quite disappointed and came out without booking.Just have a look with TATA INDIDGO MANZA and MARUTI SWIFT DZIRE before you book.IF you can spend another 50000 rs have a look with vw vento trendline which is worth for money.The choice is YOURS.

Areas of improvement INSULATION PART SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF.ABLE TO HEAR THE ROAD NOISE.IMPROVEMENT IN DISTANCE BETWEEN THE WHEEL AND THE BODY(A LONG GAP IS SEEN).Please do improvement in door latch areas.

I had the opportunity to have a look of  Toytota Etios at Select city walk, Saket,  Delhi. The first look of the car   was pretty decent. There are four variant J, G, V and VX with price range from 4.96 to 6.86 lakh exshowroom at Delhi. The engine of the car is 1500cc, four cylinder, max power of 90PS with torque 132 Nu @ 3000rpm. The basic variant J is equipped with AC, heater, immobilizer but doesn't have power steering, power window, alloy, central locking,  The variant V  &  VX is equipped with all the features that a modern car is having, But if you want to control your DVD music system from your steering wheel than you have to opt highend VX model. One disappointment that the interior design of the car is too simple. Fabric  and seats of the car could have been better with additional price.

Main attraction of the car is it's aggressive price tag and Toyota's brand name. This will attract small hatchback buyer and upto aspirant of Honda city. I believe that Toyota showroom must have very busy these days.  Here biggest challenger for Toyota is to  timely delivery of the car by reducing waiting period. A six month waiting for a common man may not be acceptable  and may loose potential customtakeouter.

This is not a review as Etiosis yet to hit the roads. The two Etios Sedan   hatchback ars were displayed in Delhi Auto Expo 2010.

I am looking for a sedan but the Etios hatchback looks really cool and better in styling. The price range for Etios hatchback will be 5 to 6 Lac (expected launch Dec 10). The Etios sedan cost will be around 7 to 8 Lac.

both cars will be petrol versions and 1200 cc and 1500 cc resp.

I saw these car at Auto Expo and I was really impressed with the styling and Interiors. I have read few articles on this Car which says that 2000 Indian & Japanese Engineers done hard work for four years to make this Etios concept possible which is best suited for Indian taste & conditions. Lot of research work delayed the launch of this car.

So for those who are planning to buy petrol sedan or premium petrol hatchback in next 6 months and like Toyota cars, can wait for Etios.
