Tata Manza LX Quadrajet Reviews

Absolutly love it
Dec 21, 2010 05:31 PM 11850 Views

Brought a manza infinity black in the month of September 28th, just before the price hike of around 25k on road....lucky me....TIll date I have clocked 4000 kms and ket me tell u that I have no regrets buying the car....

Space is what will surprise u as u enter the car and driving comfort is excellent, I drove in 12 hrs close to 650 kms and was never willing to give it to my dad to drive never did such a thing happen in any of the other cars I owned till date...

The bluetooth integrated music system is a treat although they could have provided better speakers to go with the system... The AC is wonderful and cools u in a snap....

Coming to the best part and that is the mileage it has given me a mileage if 17.89 kmpl, by the way I drive a quadrajet engine. I checked it by tank full method and it is a pleasant surprise, although I am a bit conservative on my driving style... The one highway trip returned with an average of 20.21 kmpl but that was 70% highway and 30% city drive and take into consideration the 1 hr traffic jam.....

I love the car as it gives me an average of 700 kms on a full tank and I keep forgeting when was the last time I filled my car....truly fill it shut it and forget it kind of car......

Well coming to the things I dislike, there are a few the condensor fan was transmitting lot of vibrations to the cabin but that was changed under warranty in the first service.....U keep listening to a few rattles sometimes but they will hardly bother u....

Well the bottom line is for a car  that I spend hardly Rs 2.30 per km I am really satisfied with it, the car is run on synthetic engine oil which needs to be changed every 20000 kms so for the first 3 services I was told it would cost not more than RS 1000...........actually spent Rs 99 for the first service which included the change of the compressor fan........

So all u guys looking for comfort and mileage go for the manza....nothing beats it.....

Quality Issues (Update at 18000 km)
Nov 10, 2010 09:58 AM 12735 Views

I had bought the Manza Aura Quadra jet in July from Autolinks, Delhi and have since then clocked more than 5000 km. The car has been driven in city and also on highways. The the car offers lots of space inside the cabin and the boot is pretty substantial too, the mileage is also good (19 on highways and 14 – 15 on city on mixed use AC), and ride is also comfortable.

I however feel that the Tata Motors still thinks for the Taxi Drivers segment and not for their Target Audience as claimed in their adverts.

I went for the first service after completing 1000 km and here were already quite a few Quality issues with the car. The rear seat belt did not function properly, the front seat belt holder had come loose, the LED switch on the front power window button stopped functioning, there was an alignment issue in the headlights with one headlight effective for a longer distance than the other and the boot lamp did not function. I will say that the service people were helpful and did their best.

However, the seat belts had broken down (even without use!) and they did nit have a spare since this apparently had to be ordered from Pune.

I have since then done another 4000 odd km and the car is due for another service. Now, I have a bigger lists of complaints for the service people to attend to. The High beam on headlights is not really effective. There is hardly any difference between the high beam and the low beam. The rear Seat belt and the boot lamp issues still remain open and the there is a funny noise coming from the rear underside whenever I cross a hump on the road. The engine noise is also substantial even inside the closed cabin.

I had driven a Santro before this for 8 years and 1.20 Lakh Km and I must say that there was hardly any issues like this in that car. Tata’s have a great car on their hands but they really need to address these quality issues asap.

Have now done 18000 odd km on this car. Its a good drive but the problems remain. The High beaqm continues to be a major issue. I wonder if anyone else has the same problem. The engine noise is now substantial, even inside the cabin. There is a constant noise from the engine and this tends to get on my nerves specailly on long drives and often even in high traffic conditions.

Would like other members to also comment if they have faced sucgh issues or the remedies for the same

My experience and suggestions

I was impressed by the interior space and features it offered. overall VFM. Boots huge. The test drive in quadrajet abs was fine after engine speed hits 1800 rpm but sluggish below that.I am told the fuel efficiency is good but have not tested it so far and the tata unreliable and uninterested customer support is always there to haunt.

could anyone tell where to contact when dealers do not respond properly. why don' t Tata's mention their company's service center's address and telephone nos INCLUDING the corporate office so that the matter could be sorted out at the highest level if need arises.

overall a good car

I am planning to buy a diesel indigo manza. I test drove a new manza and fell in love with it. Later on I test drove another diesel manza that has clocked 7500 kms and the ride was not as smooth. There was a slight wavering/wobbling/don't know what should I call it, which is typical of other diesel indica. Now I am in confused if I should go ahead with manza diesel purchase.

Can someone advice if this is the case with all diesel cars or dzire/ford fiesta are better diesel cars? Thank you for your valuable advice.

VALUE FOR MONEY from TATA
Sep 17, 2010 03:51 PM 10477 Views

I bought Manza-Quadrazet (DEWWhite) ABS in FEB'2010 and got it 1st/2nd service. True Value for Money from TATA quiet a long time after. Interior spacious. Dashboard very cute and hand-controls WOW....Bluetooth excellent clarity...sound system with 6 twiters produce excellent quality...Mileage - 14 KM within city with AC and long drive it was 20KM/L. I enjoyed driving comfortably at 120KM....

Only one disappointment is NOISE level at start up and during moves on halt...But comparatively previous models of TATA cars, manza is good... still there may be a scope to reduce noise levels...

Overall I refer Manza for those who value for money... The same luxurious options in other brands, we need to shell out around 10 lacs....

Very good family sedan- aqua safire:update@20000km

I picked up Manza on17th August (1st day of Chingam month of malayalam). Color- grey noir from RF motors, Kochi. I am so far satisfied with dealers who have given me a good discount and have answered all queries with ease.

One of the first things you notice about the car is its sheer size. I am used to driving Fiat petra 1.6 litre. But frankly, my new car is a lot bigger than fiat petra and looks very elegant and rich.

Although I did a test drive couple of times on Aura+, it was the first time I actually saw the base model and was happy to see things like- good blaupunkt car stereo, charger behind the rear seat, light in the glove box, tilt steering, mirror on co-driver's visor, front power windows, central locking.

Although I was aware of some of these fixtures, seeing them work is what matters. I am glad I went for the base model which is a lot cheaper than next version (about Rs 36000/-)and has most basic things that one would require in a car. All these features are not there in any of the base models of competitors in this segment. Well Tata's have done a good job in raising the bar in the base model of entry level sedans.

The drive is smooth. I live in hills of munnar and car moves effortlessly at 5500 ft elevation with very good pick up. There are no sounds as one expected after reading some reviews. However, I will be cautious here and would wait for clocking at least 10000 kms before I pass judgement. I do feel that I will require parking sensors as rear visibility is a bit of an issue. I think with the money saved from not buying higher version, I can afford minor luxury.

Another pleasant surprise was the headlight. The motorized function is just too good. Lights are very bright and fill up the front completely without any gaps. This is definately very good designing, especially since lights appear to be somewhat on sides.

Now for couple of things that have annoyed me. These are:

  1. Delay in getting the car- The delivery took a much as 6 weeks. I was told that base model petrolavailability is the reason. Another hitch is simultaneous release of BS3 and BS4 models in each category. This is creating delays for some people and I was one of them.

  2. Poor gear box- the gears are hard. Especially after driving a fiat vehicle, I am feeling disappointed here. I think Tata's may have something to learn from their fiat counterparts.

  3. Speedometer needle too sensitive and doesn't stay in place.

4.Well... can't think of any right now. May be after I drive a few hundred kilometers. Let's hope not.

Overall, I feel that car is very good. Though Tata cars are liked by many taxi drivers, I am sure this car is about to change perceptions in minds of quality conscious customers as well.

Update... 1400 kms:

Car has completed 1400 kms. 1st free service is over. I was surprised to find that oil change is not required for 20000 kms as it is synthetic oil. Defect of speedometer was corrected by changing a sensor (this was done free of cost). Gear box is much smoother. Overall, ride quality has improved. The mileage so far has been only 10.5 kms per litre. The car has run 50% with a/c (in plains) and rest in high ranges. Recently 5 people travelled about 300 kms in a day (plains and hills combined) and car moved efforlessly.

I got the rear sensor fixed at RF motors and find it a useful feature for a car of this size. Now parking in tight spots and reversing in a crowded market is much easier and safe.

Update... 6000 kms

2nd service is over. There haven't been any issues so far. Mileage has moved upto 12kms. I touched 140 kms/hr speed with this car and it was as smooth as running it at 60. Traffic conditions didn't allow me to take the speed beyond this. Overall drivability has improved. However, I do feel that steering wheel needs to be covered with a nice leather cover for a better grip.

During recent monsoons, the road conditions have become horrible. Despite care, many times car has gone into severe potholes. Other than correcting the alignment, there has not been any need to undertake any parts change. I have not experienced any noise, etc. which was a regular feature in our old Santro.Over last 18 years, I have owned Ambassador, Maruti 800, Santro and Fiat petra and thus far the comfort level and reliability of Manza has been the best of the lot. Hope I am able to say the same after a couple of years too.

update... 20000 kms

I am glad with my decision about buying this car. It is due for 3rd free service and oil change in a couple of days time. I have faced following problems/issues of late-

In the hills of Ooty, the car has given me some jitters and refused to pull even with full throttle. I don't know exactly what the issue is and suspect it has something to do with engine temperature. After stopping the car a two to three times, the problem was solved. Another issue was with the brake pad. It had to be replaced at 16000 kms. Tyres also seem to be wearing out and will need replacement by 22000 kms. Apart from these problems, car has been faily reliable giving same level of comfort as it was earlier. I am a bit unhappy about the dealers. I complained to them about tyre wearing out so fast. They asked me to send the car so that they can have a look at it. Upeon receiving the car, they refused to change the tyres and to add to the agony, did a realignment and handed me a bill for the same. I could very well have done the alignment check elsewhere.

Excellent family sedan from Tata
Aug 16, 2010 04:01 PM 16338 Views

15000kms update: Car is running fine with no issues at all and very low maintenance costs. Even on the busiest of Bangalore roads it have never returned a mileage of less than 13.1kmpl(with AC). Generally I get around 14.5 and got 15 a couple of times. On highways, it has returned between 16.8 and 18.7 depending upon the speed. I got 18.7 when driving around 100-110 kmph. All mileages are measured tankfull to tankfull and filled up at the same petrol pump with auto-cutoff set at the filling nozzle. Most important thing: This is one car that has proved wrong the notion that Tata cars are full of niggles. I am very happy with the car and have faced just one niggle(power window switch and door lock) in 20 months of ownership.

8200kms update: The car returned 14.8 and 14.9 kmpl for full city driving with 25% AC during the last two tank-fulls. I suspect that the increase is due to change of pertrol pump. Maybe the earlier pumps were cheating a bit on the actual fuel quantity. I am now filling at the pump opposite the Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road, Bangalore.

Originial review:

We purchased the Tata Indigo Manza Quadrajet Aura ABS model on the 12th of March 2010 and have completed 7000 odd kms till date.

Exterior

Aerodynamically, the car is very well shaped. It has smooth contours from the front till the end rear windshield. The rear is high and comes down suddenly giving it a very classy feel like Accord/Camry. From a utility perspective, the design is such that the ratio of inside space to outside space is very high. No bulges like the Swift/Dzire/i20 that are about as wide as the Manza on the outside but have much less shoulder width to offer, esp. at the rear seat.

Interior(Features, Space & Comfort)

Features: Simply loaded with all the important features. I won’t repeat the list but just mention that the integrated Bluetooth system is an extremely useful feature.Steering mounted audio controls appear too small to use, but are in fact very comfortable to use and one gets used to them in no time.

Interiors: Beige & gray colours, are a welcome change from the standard black interiors offered in most of the cars. This colour combination makes the car look very bright and airy inside. The overall feel of the car is very upmarket and lavish.

Space & Comfort: Simply amazing. Cars which are much more expensive than the Manza(City, Fiesta, Linea) cannot give such space and comfort. It’s best not to talk about cars like Verna, Accent, Octavia and Dzire that have very cramped rear seats. Also high seats and doors opening widely ensure that ingress/egress is a breeze.

Qualities of plastics used & fit & finish:Fit & Finishcertainly has room for improvement, but not so much that someone will decide against buying a Manza for this reason.I didn’t find anything wrong with quality of plastics. Plastic gaps are non-uniform with maybe 2mm at one end and 2.5 mm at the other, but this could be a botheration only for the clinically perfect.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Engine Performance: Certainly not a car for the enthusiast but has adequate power for city as well as highway driving. For any change into a higher gear(say 1->2 or 3->4), one should ensure that the rpm stays above 1500 after the gear change. This would result in a spirited drive. Gear shifts below that rpm will lead to low pick up, but interestingly the car doesn’t stall even if you change gears such that the resultant rpm is below the idle rpm(~850rpm). It is uncomfortable but possible to drive the car in city in just the 2nd & 3rd gears alone with a speed range of 0-60kmph. For highway driving, the Manza is very smooth and stable till 140kmph. Beyond that I haven’t tried yet. Vibrations are surprisingly low for a diesel engine, thanks to CRDI technology and are felt only at cold starts and die down as soon as the engine is warmed up.

Fuel Economy: I got 13.3 kmpl in city(Bangalore) with 20% AC before the first servicing with normal diesel and 14kmpl in city with 5% AC after the second service. All measurements are strictly tank-full-to-tank-full and with diesel filled at the same petrol pump and the filling dispenser set to automatically stop when it is tank-full(to get rid of different perceptions of tank-full by the person filling the diesel). These FE figures are for a faster than normal driving style but not a racing style. For highways, fuel efficiency was as low as 16kmpl without AC when I was cruising at 135-140kmph and was as high as 19kmpl without AC when I was driving at around 100kmph. So aerodynamic drag plays a major role.

Chennai India
Poor product and not great service back up
Aug 12, 2010 01:37 PM 13008 Views

I picked up the Tata Manza thinking I am buying a total Indian car and am totally unhappy with the experience and would recommend prospective buyers to talk to at least a few owners to see if they were happy with the product before making the decision.

The price looks attractive and it definitely has good room but that's about it. It is just 6 months since I brought it and every small nagging problem makes me wonder why in this day and age they make crappy cars like this.

The engine has a noise and the service folks of Tata proudly say it is the hallmark of Tata's, the plastic of the interiors are very poor, my brake light cracked one fine morning while hitting a pothole and they will not replace it at the service, though it is in warranty... my fan belt got screwed in just about 6 months and it is blamed on poor wiring and they have rewired it now, the bottom guard has given up and they have replaced. All this, due to one trip to Tirupati. I have made a few trips to Tirupati on my i10 earlier on the same road and have had no problems on that, this was a shocker.

Earlier when I took delivery, the leather seats got screwed up and it took more than 15 days to deliver my vehicle though it got delivered to Concorde motors Chennai 6 weeks after booking. I had a big engine noise and that got fixed in the first service. The Seat belt side panel is very flimsy and forever keeps popping out and there is no fix for it. The service station folks are helpless and have no spare and folks there keep changing. The big shock is when I went for the recent service I got to see a bevy of Manza's lined up with a lots of complaining owners/drivers about similar glitches. I have never seen this with any of my previous purchase, be it a new Zen or a new I 10 or a new Esteem...

One really feels cheated for having made this bargain. It is sad that we chose the best of breed model with a great company like TATA and end up buying a crappy car, poorly finish and poor quality of materials. Not sure if consumers will give a second chance. The other big irritant is the call center folks who keep bugging about the feedback post service and mechanically note down your comments without any empathy and which leads to more phone calls from everyone in service but no action plan or true care or solution focus, just calls and merely following processes witch scant care for customer feedback. Very frustrating.... and really sad for Tata's a company that I held in high esteem, they have not got their act right and I see no signs of them making attempts to correct this.... no patch the Japanese or Korean manufacturers with whom my experience has always been very good.

The irony here is, when anyone inquires about how the new vehicle is, , , , it is very sad but to say the truth that I am not happy and keep using my car. One more issue and am selling this off .... This has been the most disappointing purchase so far having bought and changed over 5 cars in my life. Sharing this to ensure that folks who do research before buying, really check out on this product, there sure are better options. The price and space is not worth suffering the glitches in the car the one has to live with forever.

Aura ABS Saffire-Stunning car in the segment
Jul 19, 2010 11:27 AM 12761 Views

Update@1200Kms

Driving and ride have been very good. The spaciousness has its issues, on sharp turns, kids and adults have space to fall over - something that doesnt happen in other cars which have space crunch:). Anyway a good problem to have.

One biggest advantage in Manza has been feather touch accelerator. Your legs are always relaxed - something that I found very difficult in Verna and Swift. The accelerator has lesser height due to which your foot is not inclined at a big angle.

Another good feature was that I can start car from gear 3 directly - without it stalling, which happens in other cars. Of course, there is absolutely no power when you do that - but in city driving, when u forget to change gears, its good to have car that can pickup in 3rd gear from speed of 0kmph.

On fuel efficiency - noticed the following -

@5th gear - drive in speed of 60-80Km bracket, fetches 20kmpl

@4th gear - speed of 45-60 gives arnd 17-18Kmpl

@3rd gear - speed of around 40 gives 13-15kmplm anything higher or lower will give 10-11

@2nd gear - mileage is 8-10kmpl.

For me - the average mileage in city has bee 13kmpl. I revv a lot - on highway, cud not drive below 110kph, generally was at 120kph and hence mileage dropped to 13kmpl. I city, it is difficult to maintain a constant speed. However, pickup and braking is smooth.

Problems found so far -

Missing rear wiper. The visibility is left only through side mirrors, the rear windshield needs a wiper. Will have to add that.

Co-passenger door handle is slightly harder, guess will need bit of oiling. Shd be OK though.

The power lock does not have beep/sound - hence cannot locate car if you forget where you parked it!

Original Post -

Tata Indigo Manza is one stunning car. Way better than Swift Dzire. I guess except for service, there is nothing in Swift Dzire that will compare better than Manza. Don't understand how that car still clocks volumes of more than Manza. Maybe, people still have to hear abt this car.

This car shd be compared to Ford fiesta, verna and likes instead of swift dzire. Swift dzire is compact sedan, where as manza is mid size sedan. The full size sedans are civic, accord, altis etc.

For this size and features that it provides, I don’t think there is any other car in sub 10 lakh segment – including likes of Verna, SX4. And from size angle, maybe even Honda city.

How I wish Tata’s would have dropped “Indigo” from the name tag. That would surely have helped the popularity of the car, plus it would have been right thing to do – the reason being, there is nothing similar between Indigo and Manza!

For starters, the engine and gear box in Manza are not the regular TDI ones which are fitted in Tata indica and indigo. This is the much better engine from Fiat – the same engine that powers Fiat Linea – albeit much better tuned.

When I planned to buy a car, I had planned for a budget of 5.5 to 6.5 L. Also, my driving being limited to weekends, intention was clearly set on Petrol car. Key to decision was budget and space – being a “tall” family, the space – both in front and rear seats was of very high importance.

That started a journey of multiple test drives and evaluation across various parameters. To begin with – in my budget, there was a range of hatchbacks and amoung sedans it was Logan, Swift Dzire, various Indigos and Manza.

Initially, I tried few hatchbacks. Found range of issues in those cars – though these may be good ones for some. Punto has absolutely no space in rear. Ford figo looks beautiful, has excellent boot space but has low ground clearance, which is not ideal for kaccha roads in India. Swift dzire looks big from outside but cramped inside. Polo and i20 are probably best of lot but on expensive side. Anyway – I had narrowed down on Polo and i20 from hatchbacks.

One of my friends indicated that at same budget, I can go for a sedan as well. That is when I started looking for sedan in same price range. The first test drive was swift dzire. It’s a good peppy car, but space is rear is awfully cramped. The test drive was with my full family – 2 kids, wife and mother getting into the rear seat – and they were very very uncomfortable. The AC cooling compounded the misery – though I feel that was one of problem of the test car. The engine was peppy, and drive was good – but the rear seating space was a real issue. Plus, lookwise the boot is not well integrated with the regular swift. Maruti seems to have done quick work of attaching the boot to swift, and there is a bit oddity in shape. I had tried Verna as well – and it has the same issue of rear seating.

Next was Manza. Well, the first drive and it was evident that this was the car for me. Blaunkpunkt music system with 6 speakers, Bluetooth connectivity(tested the same), the tilt steering etc – and all these features in base version. I tested the ABS version(Saffire Auro ABS), and slamming on brakes while speeding at 80km/hr was absolutely no problem. Coming to rear space – you need to sit in to believe it! With front seat in fully back position, I took the rear seat. Being 6 ft tall, my legs touch the front seat in most cars – including Honda City – but here – there was a space of 2 inches! The recline angle of rear seat is just awesome – gives complete comfort. The engine has been tuned for higher power than swift and was quite peppy as well. The AC cooled the entire cabin in under 1 minute – that was in heat of early June.

Overall the experience in Manza was quite stunning. I read most of the reviews on net, and only issue that was listed was the interior quality. Well, I seriously did not find any major issue – maybe that is personal choice.

Got the car from Hem Motors in Satara delivered in 2 weeks from booking. The overall experience with the dealer was quite pleasant. Overall cost of car was 6.2lakhs for ABS version. Did not go for Airbags, as had read reviews that those can seriously damage the people in front seats – and is quite risky for kids.

With extended warranty for 4 yrs/1.5lakh KM, you get breakdown assistance anywhere in India within 2 hrs. Thats is another value add from Tata stable.

Have logged some 500Kms so far – and experience is fantastic. Mileage is around 10, which will go up post 1st or 2nd servicing.

TATA MANZA Test drive
Jul 08, 2010 10:59 PM 9909 Views

I did test drive of TATA MANZA Diesel, it was good, but the interior is really really bad the seat belt holders on top comes out when I tried to tighten the seat belt, its not am strong, the fitting is really really bad and the quality inside I don't like it, it feels like after a year or two it might give very bad music while driving as I see all fittings are not at all good.

I heard it is power steering but don't know why I feel the touch of Ambassador steering and its really hard to drive not at all smooth driving, gears I don't find good too, may be it was driven by so many ppl.

Over all I don't like it, not at all satisfied, A.C is very power full I get head ache and still couldn't come out of the pain still.

and the back seats are like hitec bus seats when you push back, which we cant sit like for long time if there is long drive, I guess it is a problem with "test drive car" I didnt see other manza cars in showroom, I immediately ran out of the car couldn't even stop for a minute over there. If it is a problem, I guess even for new car some day it leans back, it would be good if it is adjustable.

Not aware of Fuel Consumption representatives say that it gives 18.

Guys its upto you and everyone has there own points buy or leave it.

Great Car with poor after sales service
Jun 04, 2010 01:22 PM 10981 Views

I got the delivery of my Indigo Manza Aura on 6th May. I drove 1250 kms till now. Overall experience was okay. It could have been easily excellent, but for just 1 day when my car broke down in the middle in Vashi. It refused to start because the brand new Exide battery fused. The Tata helpline no. given to me at the time of delivery is not answerable. I was actually stranded with even Concorde motors not answering the call.

Eventually, I had to catch hold of a local mechanic who ultimately fixed it, but with a cost. After a lot of efforts, I managed to reach Concorde motors who is the dealer from where the car was purchased. They asked me to take the car to the service station. As the car was running absolutely fine by now, Tata service were not able to figured out the reason of the problem.

Nobody tried to get into the dept of the problem. One thing I realised the Tata service is not as proactive as some other competitors. I have to incur a cost for fixing the car, plus the agony of being stranded mid-way.

Non-availability of spares for TATA Indigo Manza
Jun 04, 2010 01:06 PM 10697 Views

I had purchased a TATA Indigo Manza in the month of Feb 2010.  On my recent long drive from Bangalore to kerala I came to know that my service lamp is glowing which is an amber colored lamp and on referring the Manuel I found that the car needs to be serviced and that something is wrong with the engine.  Fearing that there is something going wrong I took it to a TATA authorized mechanic, driving around 80 kms and after checking the engine, I was informed by the supervisor that they do not have the software for decoding the error message and that the engine is working fine.

The supervisor advised me to go to the next big city Cochin and get the issue sorted.  So I had to drive another 40 kms to reach the service center and on checking the error message with his computer, I was informed that they have to find out the problem which was causing the error message. so I had to wait the whole day and to be told by the supervisor that the relay is gone and they do not have spares.

I had no other choice than to plead with the Manager to remove the relay from another Demo Manza car and fix it onto my car.

Dear readers, if you are buying a Manza, please ensure that you stay next to a big city which has a TATA Authorized service station that  has all the required software and available parts.

Dealer cheating
Jun 04, 2010 09:27 AM 9317 Views

I had recently bought Indigo Manza from Galaxy Motors Mulund. To my surprise the headlights did not work during my first long journey to Malad. Since while going it ws daytime I did not realise it and came to know about the defect only when I was returning during night time. Next day the workshop person came and informed that light system is defective. I was stunned to hear that. Such a basic feature and not working in a brand new car. More was to come. Workshop people informed me that Teflon coating was not done to the car as assured by showroom.

After all this I raised my voice with TATA. Then I got a call from workshop to do the Teflon coating. But Galaxy Motors people are shameless not to contact me and apologise for the cheating. They have not even issued an apology letter to me. Please don't ever go to Galaxy Motors. Even TATA Motors have not contacted me till date which is heartbreaking.

I'm very happy to write the review of manza and the situation that made me to own it. I had earlier owned a indica v2 2005 model. And now i thought to buy a sedan. I was focusing on a sedan which will have a vfm.

I have to choose the right candidate out of this following.

Indigo manza

Dzire

Ikon

Logan

Accent.

In the initial screen up ikon & logan was out of the sceen as ikon is outdated india and logan is really outdated by its looks and even the accent too. In the case of ikon u need to start a bank account for it. I mean the cost of spares. Its damn high. Now i have to choose manza/dzire.

I had td both the cars. I will write down the positives & negatives of both the cars.

Positives of manza.

  1. Spaceous.

  2. Fresh new look.

  3. Vfm with all its new gadgets.

  4. Rear seats inclined to 28 deg same as in benz s class.

  5. Quadrajet engine.

  6. Spacious rear seats.

  7. Good dashboard with its center console inspired from linea.

  8. Good driving as well as travelling comfort.

  9. Big boot. (like a mini bed room)

  10. Good mileage.

  11. In the top gear she is the king of the road.

Negatives of manza

  1. Interior plastic. But still a miles ahead from the old indigo

  2. Ac is not upto the mark compared with the old indigo.

  3. Audio controls in the steering wheel is so small.

  4. The font size in the meters is so small it will take some time to adjust.

  5. Engine sound. (bit high compared with dzire)

  6. Rattling sounds. (it happens in indian roads)

  7. Initial lag in the first & second gear

Positives of dzire.

  1. Drivers car.

  2. Good pickup & mileage.

  3. Service center.

  4. Interior plastics.

  5. Mileage

Negatives of dzire.

  1. Ugly rear looks.

  2. No rear seat space.

  3. Boot space.

  4. Interior colors.

I was reading the reviews by googling various sites. Many users have given a good thumps up to

The dzire as compared to the manza thinking that its a tata product.

I had test drived both the cars well. By taking into account each and every things in both the

Cars the race is getting heated up according to my taste.

I was thinking in these situation.

-- i can own a manza by adjusting myself to the interior plastics which is of normal quality.

-- i can own a dzire by adjusting to its rear looks.

Somethings which i find in dzire which is not at all suits me is the rear seat space & the ugly rear looks. Its like fitting a box in the back side of a duck. Over all dzire is not designed as a proper sedan. But for the manza, it looks like a proper sedan. Ofcourse, tata always designs theirproducts well compared with others. I was almost in a situation to select the manza and then i enquired abt the delivery of dzire & manza. I was told for manza that i wil get it in 2 weeks but when i enquired abt dzire they told it may take upto 6 months and that too its not confirmed. I was in a situation that to select a premium hatch back like i20/figo/fabia or go in for suv/muv but manza never goes out of my mind. It started to be in my heart.

I started to go in for td & read some reviews abt the manza once again and ask some owners of manza in person. I was so happy to hear that every one like their product except some small nigles which can be adjustable. One guy told me that he was able to drive his manza with a top speed of 180. But when he drove at the same speed in a dzire, the car was totally out of control. One guy told me that he was driving at a speed of 120 with the windows open. He had a doubt if the engine is working or not. He was meaning that the engine is so silent. So i had a lots of positive notes for manza. No one makes a 100% error free product even audi or bmw or lincoln. There will be some or any chance of small niggles. I booked a manza quadrajet aura abs model and i got it delivered in 2 weeks time. I chose the wine red color. This color will find its indentity in the crowd of cars. I have now covered almost 200 kms in my car. Im planning to do some short rounds upto 1000 kms and then service it and then go in for a long drive after that. There are some vfm gadgets in this cars like

1.bluetooth enabled phone.

  1. Mileage indicator and various other stuff in the dash.

  2. Twin lights in the car.

  3. Spaceous glovebox with lights.

And much more.

I will once again update after my 1000 kms of service and then the long trip after that. Once again, i'm really a happy customer of manza. It rocks....

Tata Manza AuraABS - Diesel
May 12, 2010 08:08 PM 11506 Views

Its been such a long time I have written anything here. I just got my new Manza Aura ABS yesterday. It all started off with a quest to buy a new car and it had to be diesel. Checked out almost everything around the market - Polo, i20, Figo, Punto, Fabia in the hatchbacks

i20 Magna  - excellent car. Actually booked it cos I was already using a 2000 model LE Santro and having seen its reliability and also the petrol version of i20 which my friends already had I decided this was it!!! Then ended up changing my mind !!!

Fabia - freakout car for a hatchback. Superbly built and great engine BUT all CRAP SERVICE from dealers. In fact they didnt bother to even call back for a test drive.

Polo - Nothing but Fabia in new clothes and actually quite boring compared to Fabia!!!!

Figo - decent car but essentially the old Fusion body modified and fitted with the Fiesta engine and effectively toothless according to me.

Punto - another great car but the 90 HP engine was just out of reach

Maruti ruled out simply cos they just copy paste one model to another. And they use the Fiat engine!!!!!

Next cae the sedans -

Again Dzire out straightaway coz its nothing but Swift with a so called boot - outright ugly

Vento - only entry adn top end models no middle and 6-8 months waiting period but superb car

Verna-WOW but alaas again out of budget!

Linea - I have never told my wife also "I love you" but I told this car. What handling what drive dynamics and what looks!!!! This was it...this was it.... (Omar Khayam - rubayat....)

Then all objected to it cos it was so long and felt cramped in the back. The space at the back was the only thing which was a drawback. The rest was just perfect.

Then there was the Manza. This whole exercise started in November 2010  was forgotten by the time it was March 2011.

Now this car ws hardly in my list cos it was Tata!!!

Cut to June first week, The car bhoot was back with a vengenace,  took a drive in it with family and yes it was no Indica or Indigo this was far more sperior!. Still not convinced....coz Linea kept playing in my mind in the background.

Saw a new petrol Manza in office - silver color, forcing my inquisitiveness.

Elegant, not freakout like the Linea.

Comfortable inside lust like the old Amby - 3 can sit in the back seat and your shoulders wont rub. And you knees/ feet wont hit the front seats. Beige color fabric, bege-grey double color dash - quite decent actualy and bright inside overall. Then I went back to the showroom for a look at hte diesel. The new "refreshed" version was in the showroom. The top two variatnts had a beige and dark plum combo inside - even more dramatic.

ABS EBD, good ground clearance

Soft pleasant ride. The engine is diesel only at startup after that it sounds like petrol... no sound at all- I drove with the windows open, no sound of a diesel growl. Pedal it and then you will hear the Fiat engine else you will NEVER hear the engine. Close the windows and start the AC the world is different all around now. You could keep a sweater handy though just in case it gets too cold.

Tried a hard acceleration, - this car is NOT meant for racing but it still accelerated quite decently. Drive it like a top end sedan - gracefully and the car behaves like royalty - All class!!!. But again it can climb up to 140kph quite efficiently. Again I repeat no rocket engine. The gear gets a little used to though. not as smooth as i20 or click click like Linea or pucca like a Fiat but still does the job with no ambiguity whatsoever.

So finally decided to book this with the 3rd model = Aura ABS variant. So booked the Monarch Red color and offers they gave me were freak out. I got a crazy deal. I exchanged my Santro and got free insurance, competitive upgrade discount, corporate discount all put to get I paid 5000/ from my pocket. Anyway I picked up the car and so far have clocked 200 km in 3 days!! and Im getting a steady mileage of 18 in city with the AC on. Now coming to actual facts

The not so good things first .

Audio - OEM - Blaupunkt with bluetooth and Cd player and USB port etc but dabba speakers. I'm gonna replace them with my Hertz speakers which I was using on my old Santro.

Plastics are good now but a fews ifs and buts here and there still exist.

No dead pedal if you are used to one like in Hyundai.

The great/good parts

Fiat 1.3L engine need I say more.

Electronics - Steering mounted audio controls, Bluetooth eabled audio Blaupunkt make.

Driver Info System gives dynamic milage, distance to empty, time, outside temperature in clear large dispaly easy to read wit hTrip A & B options

Smooth clutch feels just like a petrol

Clean acceleration, once you are past 2000rpm the fun starts.

Can behave like an automatic in 3rd gear drops down to almost 20kph and can keep going there slowly accelerate to 40-50 kph then change to 4th. Drop into 5th - this is pure highway gear teh car takes off!!! no holds barred.1, 2, 3 gears for city heavy traffic, 3, 4 for medium suburban traffic and 4, 5 for highway. Since I live in bumper city sorry Bangalore anyone who knows Bangalore roads kpws what I'm taking about.

1st service 1000 km

2nd service 10, 000 km

3rd service 20, 000 km

4th service 30, 000 km

Car comes with 2 year standard warranty and additional 2 years extended warranty which is optional. Only accessory fitted is hte reversing sensor - "CIRCUIT I" make, cost 4500/- Got it fitted in the showroom itsel. Now I till tell you in 2 weeks time once I have given for 1st service.

Till then bye.

Hyderabad India
The best of the cars from tata
May 08, 2010 10:31 AM 9118 Views

A Stylish car outside and from inside it has the comfort and space which every one would love to have. YEAH! like every other model which sells hot for TATA's it's not easy to grab one, it was no different for this one. I had quite a long wait to have the first experience of the car. I would say its worth the wait as it has all the comfort and style with the performance of the machine. I would rate this machine as the best in the segment. I am extremely happy about its performance and features.

Great work from Tata motors. they have made every thing possible from the cheapest car (nano) to the best of stylish high perfoming machines. Great work.

Go for Manza
May 03, 2010 05:17 PM 10792 Views

Welcome to my thoughts on my new car - Tata Indigo Manza - Aura(ABS) - Quadrajet - Gold Satin.

This is my second car, after Tata Indica V2 - DLS. Though I am generally satisfied with my old car, but wanted to go for a sedan. I did some searching around, and short listed Ford Feista, Fiat Linea, Maruti Swift Dezire and Tata Manza. I did test drive all the cars. Maruti Dezire is a nice car except for space constraints. With my height being 6 ft, I have a natural inclination towards cars where I can just get in comfortably than fall inside. Linea and Feista are good cars with great drive control and power. But the price, which is nearly Rs 1.5 lacs less, and inner space made me go for Tata Indigo Manza.

Somehitng about the design. Walk up to the Manza and the first thing that hits you is that it looks like a proper sedan. The boot is better integrated than in the Indica-Indigo or Swift-Dzire siblings. The Manza does not look like a hatchback on which a boot was stuck on, as an after-thought. The Manza is assembled on the exact same production line as the Linea, at Tata-Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility. There’s a good and a bad side to that.

Within a fortnight I completed 2000 kms. I found the car is a great leap forward for Tata. There are a lot of features, that other reviewers have listed, or one can download from the website, so, I need not list them here. But hows the car?

There is good comfort inside. The plastics are passable. The finish is not up to the mark, with a lot of gapping holes. Surely, Tata could have gone for a more sophisticated finish that would show some class. But as always Tata goes for functionality than aesthetics.

Storage space is good in some areas and average in others. Sure, the main glove box is deep and there’s a storage drawer right under the passenger seat. But there isn’t a center glove box, the door pockets are rather small(7 inches long) and the seat back pockets narrow. No convenient bottle holder on the doors either.

460 liter boot. Wide mouth+ low loading lip for convenience(lower than even the Vista hatch). As someone commented on the other Manza thread, you can fit your in-laws in here. Suspension protrudes at the end. Rear seat back can be folded down for additional cargo space. No 60:40 split though:

Audio system is blaupunkt, and it is good but not great. The instrumentation and control stock at the center of dash board is good for the price.

There insulation is good, as we can hardly feel the diesel engine or hear its murmur. Many times you may doubt whether the car is running or not.

We can easily drive past 120 kms, though I have not touched 140kms still. But there is no speed feel inside. Importantly, the move towards high speeds is smooth. Yes there is a lag in engine response upto 1800 rpm. But if we are able to work around the pedal and gears, then that lag feel is minimised. Surely this is not the car for a zippy take off from traffice lights. But once past 30-40kms, then we can compete on the road. This is gentle car, where you need to slowly accelerate to higher speeds.

I did a 1000 kms drive to test the vehicle and check mileage. My stats say that the car would give around 17-18 km/lt with AC on an average, though within city traffic it may vary depending on the circumstances.

My wish-list:

•Only wish the top end variant had a rear air-con blower.

•I wish Tata has simply called the Manza a “Tata Manza”. Why bring in the Indigo badge here?

I think it is good car as an entry level family sedan. Surely, it is value for money product. Though some reviewers seem to have had some problems with the sales and service station, but at Trichy, Tamilnadu, I bought it at VST motors, and I could not fault him. As I had already owned a Tata vehicle and so I had a running relationship with them, probably, that would have helped.

There are some aspects where in Manza scores and different factors wherein other competitive cars are good. So, if the factors that Manza scores are important to you, Mainly PRICE, then surely Manza would a product that would not disappoint.

The sales too is picking up. Though I started scouting for a car two months back, but were not able to find many Manzas on the road. Now-a-days, we are able to find some good numbers for a new model. The April 2010 figures augurs well for Manza. Tata has sold more than 7000 indigo units, wherein Manza alone contributes 75%. This is a180% jump of same month previous year. Good showing I believe.

My suggestion would be that if your budget is sub 8 lacs for good family sedan, then go for Manza.

A small update: Its more than 3 months of driving the car, and nothing much to really complain about. I have taken some long tours of nearly 500 kms one-side. Though the car is good at highways, where I am able to reach 130-140 km/hr without any loss of confidence, but the feeling in village roads is not very appreciable. Last week I need to go on a 50 km stretch on pot-holed village road, the experience is not one to remember. The car was not able to absorb much of pot-holes and even small uneven-ness in road condition shakes us inside.

Poor pickup with AC
Apr 27, 2010 08:49 PM 16358 Views

Currently, I am using Tata petrol car (Indica Xeta, GLX). I went to take a test drive for Indigo Manza at Kolkata location. I was almost mentally prepared to replace my car with new Indigo Manza (Diesel) as I was overwhelmed with the New Indigo Manza look. Look wise it's really gorgeous. The leg space and boot space is really excellent. Overall it was looking like a great package. Now while taking the test drive I found that the Pickup of this car with AC is horrible. Infact some time it seems you have to stand over the accelerator to get the pick up! This is a terrible problem with almost all the Tata cars and my petrol car (Indica Xeta, GLX) is also having the same problem. I could never imagine the same with the product like Manza.

Though I have my own weakness for Tata cars for space and road grip but for a high-end car like Manza the pickup problem with AC on, is not at all acceptable. The car dealer in Kolkata assured me that it's a problem with all mid sector Diesel Cars. Then on the same day I tried with Linea(same Fiat 1.3 lt. engine and gear box  like Manza) but found no problem with pickup which confirmed that it's a problem with Manza Diesels only. I am a bit upset and not going for the product and advise you to be careful about this problem when you take the test drive. Make sure you put the AC on and then check the pick up of this car (particularly on the lower speed).

If pick up with AC is not up to the mark even with a new car then it's a serious problem. My own experience: It degrades more consistently with time and mileage.

What more should you ask???

I really feel very proud to be owner of TATA MANZA (quadrajet AURA ABS).This is my first tata product. It is not obvious to own TATA product without niggle free output. But now I feel something more about this car.My budget was around 7-8 lakhs, we already own ford fiesta, ford ikon & maruti zen, no doubt nice cars. So, this time I am looking for new and reliable brand.

One thing is clear that I have to go for diesel car.So, my first available option was FIAT LINEA.friends this car deserves much more than its class. But what made me stop is its boot space.Really it disappoints me.

Next option was TATA MANZA. The first impression was awesome, it gave me  completely retro look.I just took 360 degree view.first thing that hits you is that it looks like a proper sedan.I was really surprised with tata work. But this is also true that the Manza is assembled on the exact same production line as the Linea.Paint job quality and exterior fit & finish are superb, Even the panel gaps are largely consistent.the 4 component headlamp design looks contemporary and totally non-Tata.Tata’s trying to go a li’l premium with this car.

Now when I go for interior obviously door don’t shut/open with that European thud.Dual tone interiors gives you royal feeling. They made you stuck. The colours are nicely co-ordinated to give the interiors an airy feeling. This time tata has provided nice features such as-tilt-adjustable steering, height adjustment option, Rich and lavish rear seat with arm rest, illuminated glove box, dual air bags, ABS, illuminated key assembly, lumbar support for front seats etc..Tata says they have increased the wheelbase by an additional 50 mm on the Manza. The wheelbase of the Manza is 2, 520 mm (Dzire = 2, 390 mm).

Now its time to check the boot space really the first thing come to my mind is how the rivals gonna beat this car.Absolutely unbelievable.I am 6ft 2inch and sitting very comfortably without depressing my feet. The door and center armrests are at just the right height too. there is still a sufficient gap between my head and the roof.this is one of the rare cars in terms of space.

Tata sells the top loaded Manza variant with ABS, 2 front airbags, HVAC (no climate control), tilt adjustable steering, driver's seat height adjustment, lumbar support for both front seats, 4 speakers and two tweeters music system with USB / AUX / MP3 compatibility, Bluetooth integration, steering mounted controls (stereo + phone), multi-information display, front & rear fog lamps, electric adjustments for the ORVMs and keyless entry. While at it, I must add that even the base variant come with a respectable level of kit (tilt adjust power steering, front power windows, 2 DIN stereo + 4 speakers + two tweeters, dual tone interiors, tachometer, 15 inch wheels and central locking). The center console design has a huge Fiat inspiration, Has a full keypad for your mobile phone. Audio system has strictly average sound quality. Bass is hollow. 4 speakers and two tweeters standard on all variants. Stereo display too cluttered and fonts too small for ease in readability.

Now lets come to the heart of the car, yes lets check out the engine. The engine is same as in linea.the diesel is rated at 89 BHP (4, 000 rpm) and 200 NM of torque (1, 750 – 3, 000 rpm). Yup, it’s running the Linea spec engine (with slight changes) and variable geometry turbo here. Translated = No swift-like punchy turbo kicking in. Rather, the turbo action is subtle in nature. Even though the spec sheet says that the torque comes in at 1, 750 rpm, you don’t really feel much acceleration until crossing 2, 000 rpm (turbo seems to really start spooling only after 1, 800). And despite a variable geometry turbo, turbolag is noticeable and definitely takes some getting used to. Once you learn to keep the engine on the boil (use the right gears to stay above 2, 000 rpms), its easy to drive in a pretty spirited fashion around the city. The 1.3 is fairly revv-happy and will go on till slightly over 5, 000 rpm. However, the most useful revv range is between 2, 100 rpms – 4, 100 rpm; the Quadrajet makes maximum BHP at 4, 000 rpms. There really is no point for you to revv beyond that. Best to shift up early and work the torque.

What I would do in a regular driving style : Upshift in the early 2, 000s and go over 4, 000 only during a spirited drive or when it’s necessary to overtake that truck in the same gear. The diesel’s mid-range is useful. Even on an old school highway, overtaking 80 kph trucks is not a problem at all. But choosing the right gear (staying within the engine's power band) is important. On the expressway, she was easily cruising at 140. Beyond this, the Manza starts running out of breath and progress is slow (1.3 liter engine after all). You can stretch her legs to a realistic 165 odd kph, but it’s simply not worth it . This car is best driven as a sedate (safe) comfortable cruiser. The turbo-lag raises its ugly head on a steep incline.

If you come to an absolute stop midway, you will have to generously slip the clutch (surely not a good thing). The 1.3, ironically, feels a tad more spirited in the Manza than in the Linea. The Manza's power to weight ratio (74 BHP / ton) is superior to the Linea (66 BHP / ton) and Dzire (69 BHP / Ton). Yet, the Dzire feels the most sprightly, probably due to its lower gearing and punchy turbo action. The Manza is running taller gearing in the interests of fuel efficiency.

9 someone should be there to take the accountability as every time the staff is changing n many more problems but word limit is less

I really regret that i had this car for which every weekend i have to spend at tata motors rather than having happy motoring.

I think tata should replace sold manza cars with some alternative option of cash back and not further sale it as its really a horrifying experience with it and being a female itz really toughest for me to go every weekend at tata motors and talk to their workforce who always keeps on hit n trial servicing. They have changed the fuel filter and charged rs. 2700 for it as they said we had adulterated diesel in that i know what to do we had verna, swift dezire and even tata indigo but all hassle free only this and the alibi is that its rainy season so might be possible fuel tank get some moisture or before getting fuel tank filled we should check that the diesel at petrol pump is not at the lower level can u imagine how it could be possible. Anyhow, I too feel i should sale it off.

I would suggest for heaven sake go for any car but not tata manza..
