Tata Manza CS Reviews

Manza if you are ok with drivability
Apr 17, 2010 08:47 AM 9369 Views

Test drove both diesel and petrol versions of the new indigo manza a few days back.

The car has a many good features at a very attractive price. Found it to be damn silent and sufficiently zippy for my style of driving. However, one thing in particular bothered me was the A pillar and RHS side view mirror design. Manza has a broad A pillar that curves inwards at its meeting point with the body. Along with the RHS mirror it forms a near impenetrable wall of obstacles that can hide an autorickshaw or a Maruti 800/Alto/Zen etc from view. This is extremely problematic while you are taking a right turn where you need to stop and turn essentially when you don't know what just went behind your A pillar on right hand side.

With seat height adjustment the situation changes a bit but it is only a bit. This becomes an unsolvable problem when you buy the lower end version without seat height adjustment. Mirrors are tall for sake visual appeal and the height is such that they nearly meet the A pillar at the place where they appear in the driver's view.

I drive a Ford Ikon today and am so habitual of a good all around view that this problem has stopped me short from buying the car.

2000 kms at a stretch in my manza
Apr 07, 2010 01:01 AM 9710 Views

Yes I did 2000 kms in three  days flat, 1000 kms a day from saharanpur in Up west to Bhopal and back after a days rest.It was pure fun, three of us hit the road.It took about 17 hours for a side, first halt was after 454 Kms at gwalior with AC turned on through out my journey and this beautiful lady never complained  pick up cooling comfort and yes I got 17.5 Km per litre of fuel efficiencyoutside temp. was hovering around 46-47 C at the dry lanes of guna and shivpuri but it was quite comfortable inside. It maintained a calm peace inside the cabin even at 120-130 Km/h.wonderful carplanning for some real long tour after this:)

guys finally I got a car of my dreams had zen estilo wanted to graduate for something bigger n better . I had booked aura safire but due to some problem on part of dealer I had to settle for qudrajet aura.It is so smooth, no vibrations n boy the space inside is amazing, I always wanted to go for Linea but when I just checked this car on my dad s insistence I never thought of going for something else.the comfort, space, dashboard n all the features loaded car at such a handsome price. Now plannig to go for a long drive n will update after that.

Hi friends I took it rather she took me for thrilling long drives, I visited dehradun, nainital and it was fun on my  manza. Intially I was bit skeptic about the pick up of diesel engine, but as I drove on I found my previous cars petrol engine is no match for her. got a good mileage 19Km/L during first 1000 kms that too including the hilly area s of nainital. I didnt press the throttle much during the run in period but at 100 or 110 it has got very good grip on the roads, there is no swaying in as you cross on coming speedy vehicles. And yes the comfort is really good. Now planning to do 2000 Kms at a stretch. One thing I must add the tata guys are better than Maruti, when you go for service of the vehicle, it doesnt  require frequent services and they do not change engine oil at each visit

Mangalore India
My first Sedan
Mar 20, 2010 02:30 PM 9690 Views

I have been a tata fan for some time now, had a tata indica petrol (LGI), was satisfied with this car but except for its mileage, Anyway now decided to go for a bigger car with some boot space etc. Got my first sedan yesterday, the new tata indigo manza (aura) quadrajet.

My First Impression - I left my office straight to the dealer to collect my car and there it was all ready for delivery, once all the formalities were finished I was given the keys. Well my first impression was that I am amazed at the improvements they have made over all the earlier versions of the tata cars, When I started my car and headed for home I realized how different the personality of this car was to all the earlier versions. I knew tata were value for money and I also had this in mind that I will get what I pay for. but this was a different story. Don't get me wrong Honda City is a Honda city, you do get what you pay for but this time I felt like tata had given me something worth more than what I paid for.

My First Drive - Of course I was happy to drive out with my new manza but what I was really happy about was that I made the right choice. Indian roads are indian roads and I knew I had to go through all these pot holes and traffic. So I was ready for it to hear the thuds and the clangs but I was wrong, I was quite shocked to see how quite it is inside the car even when you take it through all the potholes in the city. the cabin noise is very very minimal. Tata for the first time have used a softer plastic interiors which gives the finishing a different touch, you wont hear any thuds etc in this car. I have been in the Chevorlet Optra and the Honda city too and whilst tata is not there yet they are 80% of the way there.

Luxury - This is one of the first cars I am happy to sit at the back and not drive. The space at the back is the best in its class and very comfortable. it does beat even the Honda and Chevrolet for space and comfort.

Tried my bluetooth phone to sync with the car, took me 20 mins (would have helped if I read the manual) anyway its quite good, the car stereo they have given is quite good, I had earlier installed quite an expensive system in my previous car, in this I don't think I need to do anything, I am happy as it is.

Color - I chose a Grey Noir color and I must tell you every color makes the cars personality different, Grey or Silver suits class, executive style. If you want someone to turn around then go for the red or gold. Whilst White is a good color I do not prefer it as I have always related this color for taxis.

Well its just the beginning days and I am obviously quite happy with the car, I cant wait to go for a long drive and see how it performs, really looking forward for this weekend. I will try to post more when I come back.

I love this car!
Mar 13, 2010 12:30 AM 9524 Views

It has been already 5000 kms with my Manza (Aura ABS Diesel)  and I should tell that I am really pleased with this car.

1) Exteriors: I love the side look of this car. The projection in the front bumper makes it look lengthier and the front grill makes it look elegant. The rear of the car is boxy and the boot has a lots of space.

2) Interiors: Plastics used are not up to the mark. The dual tone finish is average; the grey shade in it could have been made darker ( I would have preferred black). But the gadget stock in this Car is awesome. Bluetooth + USB + Steering/ Remote controls + Front/Rear charger slots. The seat fabrics are good. The rear seat inclination is just perfect and the comfort and the leg room in the rear seat is "jaw dropping".

3) Performance: Power delivery is smooth. Turbo lag is visible at lower rpm's but will not be felt as long as you are smooth with the throttle. You will not feel the power of this car till about 2500 rpm. Once you cross that threshold, MJD VGT comes into action and you feel like you have all the power in this world under your feet. I have clocked 140 kmph and i should say that inside the car, you will not feel that speed at all. The top speed is said to be about 165-170 kmph, but I never got a chance to test that yet :)

4) Mileage: This has beaten my expectations. I was expecting around 15 kmpl but I am getting 17.2 kmpl with this car most probably because I travel mostly around Outer Ring Road in Bangalore which is not as congested as the main roads in bangalore.

Overall I think Tata motors have a winner here. However, tatas have to improve on build quality. Sometimes on steep humps, my front suspension makes some squeaky noise. Even sometimes the brakes make that squeak when car comes to a halt. I would get all these well oiled/greased in my next service which is almost due :)

Update 12000kms
Feb 28, 2010 09:51 PM 17846 Views

I brought Tata Indigo Manza Qudrajet Aura as my first car 10 days back. I did test drive Swift, I20, Dzire, Vista and Punto and finally settled for Manza as it appeared value for money.I booked it at Concorde motors , Mysore road and I got delivery of it on 19th Feb. So far I have driven it for 330 kilometers and I have left it in showroom today for the second time in these 10 days. Today the combi switch came off while turning the head light on. I can't understand why Tata is not sacking the guy who buys platics from incompetent vendors. The same problem which were there in previous gen cars are repeated here. Using poor plastics for dashboard or doors can be tolerated but Combi switch is very important part of any car specially when you are driving at night and if it goes off because of flimsy plastics used in it, there is no excuse for this. What if you are stranded in some dangerous rural area and you can't drive because your car doesn't have light?. On the second day after I took delivery, I left my car in the showroom as mike(Mircophone) used in bluetooth audio system was not working.

Apart from the plastics, Manza is excellent to drive and unlike old generation Indigo, cabin noise is very less and it feels luxurious. One can feel the difference between Manza and it's competitor Dzire by just sitting inside both the cars for 2 minutes. AC is good and it really cools pretty fast. Blaupunkt Audio system is cool.

In the city the average fuel efficiency displayed by the driver information system is 13.5 kmpl. Today I drive 60kms in highway and the mileage was 19.2 kmpl. Yet to test this by tank full method through. Here is my observations about Manza.

Pros :

  1. Value for money.

  2. Excellent rear seat comfort.

  3. Ride and handling is way improved compared to older Indica/Indigo

  4. Fuel efficiency

  5. Proven engine(Fiat 1.3 MJD 90BHP VGT)

  6. Nice gear box

Cons:

1.Worst available plastics in the world is used here.

2.There are panel gapes everywhere. Tata has not learnt how to do it efficiently. I20 is the benchmark(in the cars I test drive)with excellent fit and finish.

This car is joy to ride but I am really worried about future niggles. My advise to Tata is atleast when you release Aria, release it after thorough QC otherwise the belief that Tata does R&D on its initial customers will strengthen and very few people will go for Tata cars however good they may be. I am willing to pay additional premium(Say 25000-30000) if Tata provides good plastics with improved fit and finish. These things along with taxi image is what is plaguing series of Tata cars. Ten years after Tata launched Indica, Tatas market research team is not able to figure it out what it needs to change perception and Tata cars continue to come with poor plastics and niggles.

Update: 750 kms

The problems described before were promptly fixed by Concorde motors(Mysore road). They replaced combi switch and Mircophone without any charge as it was still under warranty.

Today I tested mileage by tank full method on highway. I tested mileage both without AC and with AC. One way I drive without AC and return journey I drive with AC. I did trip meterreset before start of each journey.Following are the details.

Highway - Bangalore<> Mysore

Tank full at Bangalore, driveWITHOUT AC

Total distance covered - 133 kms

Maximum speed achieved - 145kmh(A Swift was in race with me but couldn't touch my Manza).

Tank full again at Mysore - 6.09 liters.

Avgmileage - 21.83kmpl (133/6.09)

Mileage displayed by DIS(Mileage indicator) - 21.5

Tank full at Mysore, driveWITH AC

Total distance covered - 136 kms

Maximum speed achieved - 120kmh

Tank full again atBangalore -7.4 liters.

Avgmileage - 18.37kmpl

Mileage displayed by DIS(Mileage indicator) - 18.5

I think if one drives without AC on a highway with speed of 80-90kmph in 5th gear, Manza gives mileage of 23-24kmpl. The mileage indicator was displaying 23kmpl for me before I got into race with swift. In the city the mileage indicator hovers between 11.5kmpl to 16kmpl. In the Bangalore's peak hour city center traffic, the mileage I got was just 11.5kpml. So far I am really happy with this car. Manza is an ideal combination of space, power and mileage but one has to compromise with poor plastics. Tata's after sales(Concorde motors, Mysore road)is not bad either as they fixed all my problems in a single day and were really inclined towards pleasing me(customer). It's still early days and let me see how it goes?. It's upto the Tata's to improve Fit and finish and put good plastics and put stricter quality control in place.

Update - First service at 1140kms

Who says only Maruti service is good in India?. I got my first service done at Urs car in Mysore through I brought it at Concorde motors. My car's front bumper gotslight dent as it hit a big stone after crossing one of those illogically laid speed braker. Guess what? they replaced it free of cost under warranty. Power steering oil was added as the car was making some creaking noise. The cost of the first service is Rs.0. The staff at Urs cars is too good and very courteous. I will be going to them again.Today While coming back to Bangalore, I touched 150kmph and the average mileage diplayed by DIS is 19.2kmpl(With 90% A.C).

Update - Long drive

Went on for a long drive with my colleagues. We had two cars with 7 people. One is Chevy UVA and the other is Manza. Took the root Bangalore> Pondicherry> Chennai> Mahabalipuram> Chennai> Bangalore. Total distance covered 1030 kms(with 80% highway and 20% city). Fuel consumed (tank full method) was 54 litres. The mileage was 19.07 kmpl with 95% AC on. The top speed was 160 kmph. I got thud thud sound while driving at 160 kmph and has to slow down. Manza cruises till 140kmph but after that drive gets a bit bumpy .UVA' s mileage was approx 15 kmpl with 50% AC on.My friends couldn't believe that this was a Tata car. Everybody want to hop on to my Manza and fighting to get to drivers seat. For the entire journey car had no problems and I really loved the way it handled.

Update - 12000 kms

I have done 12000 kms now. In the 3rd service, I changed engine oil through the manual says if it's synthetic oil, it needs to be changed every 20000kms. Total cost of service including engine oil change was Rs.3600. After 3rd service I have the following problems.

  1. They have changed the headlight alignment and now the visibility has decreased to 10 meters. The high beam also is not like it was before the service.

  2. AC is not cool enough now.

Apart from this there is no other problems till now.

Gurgaon India
Amazing car with lots of features and VFM
Feb 24, 2010 04:33 PM 9875 Views

I brought Manza Aura saffire 1.5 months back... I must say it has allot of features in less price as comparison to other cars like: comfortable seats, inbuilt stereo system. bluetooth, good dashboard, steering adjustment, lots of space, stylish (typically base on personnel, I like it) etc.

I was dicey in buying Manza due to the market rapo of Tata that Tata car has noise and suspension problem and my confusion gone when I compared noise of old indica/indogo against Manza.. I checked noise of Linea as well.. all I did with new cars in showroom. I found Manza has smooth ride, no noise while driving and major checking factor is that the gear doesn't shake while ignition and driving. Overall, a great comfort in driving and suspension of manza is similar with other cars like Dzire/swift.

Finally, I decided to buy Manza and quite happy in first month also I got 12 km/lit in first month and around 15 after 1st service of 1st month. If you have a budget or around 6 lac.

I would definitely recommend this car.

Bangalore India
A great Indian Car, Value for money too
Feb 19, 2010 07:19 PM 7658 Views

I was an early bird to book an Aura ABS Quadrajet Manza at Concord, Bangalore. I began to distrust foreign cars with the horrible experience of spares and servicing of our Fiat Siena and Fiat Uno (we liked and loved both the cars for their performance and safety), and the attitude of foreign companies to withdraw successful models from Indian roads (Ex. Fiat models, Opel cars, Baleno, Matiz, etc) . Narrow seats and crappy leg space of Maruti cars are deterrents. Cost Vs performance of Hyundai cars was not attractive. Tata cars were the only option. We booked a Vista but changed to Manza at its first announcement.

Experience:

Extremely happy with the technology used, the ample space availablee (on a long trip a built-in toilet room could be the only missing luxury), smooth and noise-free engine, good electrical controls, powerful AC, window control, excellent ABS, comfortable seating, good music system, good look and feel, comfortable ride, and timely, fast and friendly servicing by Concord.

Unhappy with: Horrible interior plastics with sharp edges, which can cut your fingers. The steering wheel is disastrous with sharp edges where the spokes join the steering rim, very poor finish which hurt the fingers while turning. The hard plastic cover over the horn again with sharp edges and 5 mm gap is another thorn (one can play Tabla on it). Poor engineering is where TATA should give some attention to. At delivery the wind screen water spray was not working (took one month to rectify, because spares were to come from Pune), one spring fell off from the Bonnet open lever, Glove cabin bulb was hanging, manufacturing debris were visible on most of the plastic items. If door alignment is improved (Manza declares 'I come from the Estate Family' ) and the rubber beading are bettered then Manza is an international luxury.

Head light can look a bit more ' up'.

The engine could be a bit more powerful (may be 1.4 or 1.5 Litre), the gear shift a bit more smoother and the power steering a bit more easy ( or in American terms less 'responsive'), then no one can stop this car.

Mileage: Bangalore city 12 to 13 Km/L, High way 15 to 16 Km/L

It is a good buy and value for money car.

Mumbai India
Meant for Indian roads
Feb 15, 2010 03:15 PM 11358 Views

I was planning for my first car since November '09 and almost booked Hyundai i20. I was convinced with the styling, looks, power of i20. But as soon as I sat on the rear seat of i20 that slight doubt creped in (Me being a 6 footer). The roof was almost touching my head on bumps and gave me uncomfortable feeling. So we went to a multi-car showroom to just check out some other options but still i20 always had that soft corner (As I would be the one driving it all the time, so no worries - Right ??).

Thats when I saw Manza for the first time (Real bad ground work by me - Before buying my first car). Stepped in with preconceived notions of a Tata product and was slapped by the excellent work done by Tata people. Front row was OK to sit, dash was looking cool. But when I switched to the Rear row "Absolute Jaw dropper" Huge space, leg room in the and absolutely comfortable seats and with the armrest it is nothing less than a luxury sedan (It was 10 lacs plus written all around).

However this time I told to myself that let do the ground work and check out other options if any and then freeze it. Checked out Linea's, Swift Dzire's, Ford Fiesta's, Punto's, Swift's, Aveo's but none could match the rear seat leg room, head room, space & comfort. Logan was never in my option list. Next on the cards was to check the reviews and talk to few owners for the user comments. Test drive was done for more than twice on both Petrol and Diesel. Petrol was my initial option in all cars but this Fiat engine is too good for Diesel (I was not sure about the Saffire engine). Power was good and handling was decent enough. If driven properly you will never feel the lag (Just need to switch the gears properly). I personally found Diesel peppier and powerful while driving it.

My parents were so convinced about this car after the test drive (With the rear seat comfort) that they even rejected Linea (my beloved car).

We booked Tata manza on Dec15th (with a clause of 2010 manufactured model) at Krishna motors. And Booking it at Krishna motors was the biggest mistake (Though 10000 Rs was the booking amount). We booked it at Krishna motors as he promised discounts of 15000 Rs. But then I realized that recognized banks deny loans to Krishna motors in particular. Krishna motors asked me to tell the banker that the car is booked at WASAN motors which was an authorized dealer (where Krishna motors booked car on my behalf). I was reluctant to do so and lie the bankers and get in trouble. So I investigated about Krishna motors and found that they do some sort of unethical operations while registration and Insurance. So I cancelled the booking from him. I lost around a week in sorting out this issue.

Finally I got my Tata Manza Quadrajet Aura ABS booked at Wasan Motors on 19th Jan 2010 and got the delivery on 4th Feb (since the satin gold color was out of stock for almost a week in specified model). The agent from Wasan motors were very responsible and supportive. The car was delivered as promised with films, mud flaps, matting, anti rust, car perfume & car cover.

It is more than a week old now and going well. I have complete almost 700 Kms on it. Mind you this is my first car, I still manage to extract good 16 - 17 KMPL (mix of 70% highway and rest city with 100 % AC on). Not touched 5th gear yet, and max speed of 80 KMPH (That is comfortable for me). This was when I took it to my office thrice last week. And considering the fact being a new driver "Manza Rocks". You drive within 1700 - 2200 rpm and it brings a smile on your face when you look at the DIS (Instantaneous FE is always hovering over 20 KMPL and goes upto 25 KMPL). We drive it a lot in city and it still gives a healthy 13 KMPL in City traffics of Mumbai (signal to signal and bumper to bumper). The tank full method has confirmed it by showing 14.5 KMPL. Doesn’t that brings a big smile on your face ( A new car, new driver, and good 14.5 KMPL overall in Mumbai).

This car has got very good features like Bluetooth integration with the music system is one of them, light dimming effect, speed controlled wiper (yet use them), ABS gives you authority to rush it and yet be in complete control. Seat belt alarm keeps a check on you and save some extra bucks from going into the traffic controller’s pocket. Auto lock and Auto unlock, height adjustable driver seat (which I don't require much), Armrest and cup holders on it look good and gives luxury car feeling to it.

2nd gear has some lag at lower rpms ( quite noticeable after a speed breaker) but if shifted in first gear then you wont feel the lag.Fit and finish is decent enough but can be improved a bit to match and compliment the features that this car brings to you. I see no problems with fit and finish till now. All said, If the fit and finish is further improved then this car will become straight rivals of all 10 lacs plus cars (Luxury sedans)

All in all, it’s a very balanced car with loads of space inside, loads of features, decent styling, excellent engine to power the beast, big boot, high stance. Happy with the overall performance of the car that gives you feeling and comfort of luxury sedan and FE of a good Hatchback.

Imp: Choose your dealer carefully (Check with the banks first)

Tata Manza review

Manza Test drive Experience (Petrol and Diesel)
Jan 30, 2010 01:03 PM 12130 Views

After reading all the reviews abt manza on Mouthshut, I decided to take the test drive of Manza.Last week I took the test drive, KHT motors, Bangalore.

Here are some detailsMy height is 6'3", so I was very much anxious to look at the leg space tata provided in Manza. Though i'm not a back seater most of the times, but as soon as Sales agent brought Manza in front of my apartment, firstly, I sat on the rear seat.!!! and to my surprise, there was a plenty of leg room for the person like my height.

I dragged the front seat to its full rear swing and still was able to sit comfortably.

Well before driving itself, I thought that this is the perfect car for me and my pocket. :)Now comes to driving part.- Actually I was asking for test drive of petrol variant, since the petrol is costly, so dealer came with diesel variant, because I hardly run the vehicle to 200-300 km a month. Pls suggest if petrol variant will be a wise decision. Since petrol engine is also from Fiat (Fiat - fire).

Ok, back to driving. Started the engine, it started with very less noise because all the side door glasses were closed. I felt like I was starting the petrol engine of my maruti Alto :) then lowered the glasses and started the engine again, and felt a bit noisy when it starts. but as others said, as you accelerate, it became smoother. took the car on the main road, and tried to vroom, here it lacks, you have to wait for couple of seconds to come this beauty in mood :) :)... you should have habit of frequent gear shifting to 1st gear in diesel... but once the RPM reaches close to 2000 in 2nd gear then it just zooms... and stability is quite good, I drove at the speed of nearly 80KMPH, but was not feeling that I am at 80KMPH. it was so smooth...

The best part was, I was driving the vehicle in 5th gear at the speed of 20KMPH, and the RPM was less than 1000, but still I was not feeling the hick ups from engine, it was just sailing smoothly...(I'm not sure if petrol variant has the same capability).

Exterior looks are amazing...although vista look, but still gives you a royal look while driving on the road. (not less than any luxury car... defiantly better looks than Dzire).

Interiors are bit low range, but can't change the decision "NOT TO" buy the car just for insteriors, because, if you put the sun film, nobody gonna peep inside :) (That's but I feel-because in 6lakhs, one can't expect Honda city interiors like cock-pit :)).

The boot space is too much ...it's causing worries that Manza shouldn't become favorite of Taxi drivers :) like tata indigo marina....Logan etc.

This week I am planning to take test ride of Petrol variant, Prerana motors, bangalore agreed to bring the vehicle. Petrol review will follow shortly. But till then, if anyone owns a petrol variant, pls let me know the Mileage and other stuff like maintenance....

I am not sure about dealer satisfaction, coz couple of complaints I read on https://consumercomplaints.in forum by searching "Manza" in the search box provided.

REVIEW II -- MANZA (Petrol Aura with ABS)Guys got the chance the take the test ride of beauty running on Petrol. Prerana motors Bangalore, kindly agreed to provide the test drive of Manza (Petrol) to my office and I along with 2 of my friends went for the test drive. The best part of the test drive was, it was filled to it's capacity to measure the pick-up and other stuff.... 3 of us and 2 salesman.

As obvious, petrol variant was much smoother in acceleration and pick-up. But when you on the AC and the gear is 5th and the RPM is less than or close to 1000 RPM, you will feel noise in engine. Coz Engine needs the lower gear and we are not providing the same to engine but no hick-ups from engine although it's deprived of it's gear power. Rest all was same as it was in Diesel.

The clutch was smoother than Diesel variant. the pick-up was more, the vehicle able to pick the speed in 2nd gear with 5 person loaded in it, I was feeling the steering on a bit lighter side. (May be the diesel engines are heavy because of that)

One thing I noticed in the interiors was, the visibility of the sewing thread on the seat covers. I mean the thread was viewable from a defined distance, which is not in the case of Dzire, or even in my Alto, the seat cover threads are not visible. May be one need to go for extra a bit high quality seat covers after buying the car. I drove the car about 15 KM in the test drive, The avg mileage shown on the digital meter was between 10-11KMPL with AC on. Sometime it was dropping to 6 and 8KMPL also. I really didn't get which one to go for. Salesman assured that it will be more than 11KMPL in city ride.

Today going to dealer to check for the finance options. I am not sure if the side door, front and rear glasses are tinted ones, coz, I was feeling heat inside and AFAIK the tinted glasses gives you green color shades (Can anyone comment on this pls? if manza (other than top end) comes with tinted glasses?)

Manza Test Steered (diesel-Aura)
Jan 11, 2010 02:30 PM 11013 Views

On Sunday, Jan 10 2010, I got to Test drive the latest from the Tata stables, the'Tata Manza'. I got the test drive from KHT Motors, Bengaluru. The agent, Mr. Dilip Kumar got the vehicle near to my house at around 12:30 pm. Prior to my test drive experience, I had done a bit of study on the Manza w.r.t. specs and reviews. However wanted an opinion of my own. So here it is,

The First Look:

Exterior=>

The first look from the front says it is a sibling of Tata Vista, but a proper look shows that there are few differences. For instance, the headlight shape is same, but the way the light are arranged is different. The Manza looks as if it is an extended version of Vista, though Tata motors claim it as a new design.

The front has the usual old curved touch, with 4 horizantal lines and a big Tata logo in the center forming the grille. The central line on the bonnet gives it bold and big car look. The head light encompass the double barrel look within the petals. The turn indicators are built near to the side mirrors and another one within the head light set. Looks neat, decent from the from and side.

The rear part is bit boxy and does not match the front curved look. Due to this perhaps not many will like it. The tails lamps are a delight to look as it extends on the top of the rear and is in angular in shape. The central line, with the tails lamps gives it a decent big car look. Again at the center top a Tata logo. At the bottom left, it says'Indigo Manza' and on the bottom right mentions the version.

Interior=>

The interior is very spacious. It has dual tone fabric which is quite rich. The driver seat is height adjustable. The car come with an integrated stereo system whose features change w.r.t. the version. The higher end comes with a blue tooth support. The central console is behind the 4-spoke steering wheel which comes with audio controls. Few might feel that this steering wheel is slightly small in its diameter. Tilt adjustable power steering is an advantage with the seat height adjustment. Dash integrated music system, dual SRS airbags for front, high quality fabric

seat covers and electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors are some of the features. The rear seat are properly inclined to give a good comfort. It also comes with central arm rest.

The Drive:

Took the keys from the agent and told him that I would be taking the car in bad mud roads and also on ring road. Turned the ignition, the engine started with a little noise, shifted to first gear and slowly pressed the accel pedal. The car took off elegantly and was quite smooth. Though the engine noise dampening could have been better, it was acceptable for me who prefer to drive based on the engine's rev sound. I took the car of a very rough road and felt the suspension was quite good. The gear box was bit tight perhaps considering the fact is needs time to get softened. It is a bit tight at first and second gears.

I had a comfortable drive on bad road. Via traffic and constricted road drove for 4 kms to join the ring road. Handling in traffic is very easy and comfortable. Steering to wheel communication is quite good though could have been better. I have to point out, at humps, when we slow down, overcoming the speed-breaker at second gear is not an option you have to come to first. It needs a min of 100 mts to come to a proper speed and rev at second gear. The lag and the body weight which is more perhaps adds to this.

On the high way that is ring road, it cruzes. Picked up speed quite easily and can reach top speeds of 160 kmph with comfort and ease. You might not find the pep as in competitors, Manza is not bad. For a family trip and not for racing the tuning is great. At higher speeds you will notice significant body roll, but becoz of the weight, the front grip and stability is good.

After taking u-turn to get back, I stopped and gave it to my friend to drive and occupied the rear seat. Sitting at the rear, I felt I was in a SUV. Very spacious, comfortable. Leg space is very very good.

The overall experience during the drive was good.

Lets look at the internals of the car,

The engine is a tuned multijet engine from the Fiat which has proven it worth. In Manza it is 1248 CC delivering 89 bhp at 4000 rpm and a torque of 200Nm at 1750 rpm. Its competitor DeZire is 1248 Cc delivering 75 bhp at 400rpm power and torque 190 Nm at 200 rpm.

The transmission is a C549 set from fiat with 5+1 manual speed. Would have been better is it were much more smoother.

The suspension is Independent; Lower Wishbone; McPherson Strut with Coil Spring at front and at rear Semi-independent, Twist Beam with Coil Springs and Hydraulic Shock Absorbers. The soft tuning and the dampening rate supports the extra weight pretty well.

The brakes are of type Vacuum Assisted Independent Dual Circuit Diagonal Split Hydraulic Brakes through Tandem Master Cylinder. The front brake is Ventilated Disc and at rear it is drum. My advice no immediate braking.

The steering is of type Power Assisted Rack & Pinion - Hydraulic, Tilt-adjustable with a turning circle radius of 5.1m.

The wheels are 5.5 J x 15 and the tyres are 185/60 R15 Tubeless Radials. Alloy wheels would have been better for looks.

Fuel tank capacity is 44 liters and gives an approx mileage of 14 -15 kmpl. I opinion is that it will definitely give more.

The boot space is very good with 460 liters and the ground clearance is 165 mm.

Other features include,

Warning Buzzer for Driver Door Open with Key/Headlamp/Taillamp ON

Warning for Seat Belt Not Fastened

ABS (Aura ABS and Top end)

Dual Front SRS Airbags (Top end)

Retractor, Pretensioners & Load Limiters on Front Seat Belts (Top end)

The Verdict:

Well, this is a good family car. Power, torque, driveability and fuel efficiency are quite decent with Indigo Manza. It sure will make the smiles stay plastered on the owner's face. Though not a sports car but is a all round family car with good ride quality backed up with decent and neutral manners with good road grip and pretty well weighted steering.

So overall it is good.

Amazing Value for Money
Jan 08, 2010 01:36 PM 8094 Views

I am one of the first few proud owners of Indigo Manza & the experience has been just fantastic.

The look & feel is certainly comparable with most of the more expensive cars and at the current price lines -it's just a great value for money. As a back seat member- I am very happy with the high leg space provided.

Rest of the features are cool to have & all in all- a highly recommendable experience!

A few things like a exact fuel efficiency perhaps would be clear over a period when the car runs few more thousands. meanwhile- it's happy motoring so far.

A Dream car on Indian Roads! (40,000 kms, 2 Years)
Jan 05, 2010 01:05 PM 18403 Views

(Look at the comment for my latest update after 40, 000 kms as this space is not enough).

I took the delivery of my Manza Quadrajet Aura ABS yesterday. Booked on last 12th Dec 09. The vehicle was delivered on 28th Dec 09. I am really excited to drive this power horse!

I already own a spark LT which has run 30, 000 kms in 2 years 3 months. Now I wanted to go for a diesel one which has all features.I had been waiting for a good launch since the beginning of 2009. I had these cars in my mind before zeroed in Manza.

  1. Ikon TDCI(Has good build quality, good engine, but decade old look!, no features!)

  2. Fiesta TDci(Good engine, good mileage, poor ground clearance, build quality is not so good)

  3. Logan(Very good vehicle in all aspects. Lacks in look and features)

  4. Xylo(Good for big family.my wife and daughter felt that it seems like sitting in an omni bus inside Xylo.so not so impressive for me)

I dint have any inclination to Maruti(DeZire) products as they dont value the back seat passengers. All are cramped interiors(including SX4). They un necessarily creat artificial demands on cars like Swift and DeZire.

I have good faith on Linea.but the price tag for the same features as in Manza is too much. I have to pay nearly 2 to 2.5 lakhs more for the same featured Linea. Moreoever the shoulder height and head room of the rear seat is so horrible in Linea.

As you can guess, for every new launch the other one was removed from the list. I was about to book Xylo in last Oct 09. By that time the launch news of Manza came and I waited for it.

After the launch, I took the test drive of Manza extensively. On all types of terrains. City, Highways, etc.

You wont believe, it has satisfied all my expectations. I drove upto 120 kmph and applied break(in ABS version).it just came to halt without any trouble. While applying break I took my hands off from steering to check it. This was the reason why I wanted ABS for me.

The dealer GEM motors from Coimbatore assured the delivery before 31st Dec 09. The executive who followed up me was prompt in service and had good time till I took the delivery. Since there were so many deliveries yesterday, they didn't have time to clean the dirts(little) on few corners of the dash board. Anyways.after first service I am planning to set everything right.

To my surprise all the Manzas delivered(I could check only those.) shown 5 kmpl as average fuel economy. When asked the mechanic said it is the initial set up done in the factory. Now(after some 30 kms run) it shows 9.1 kmpl. I guess it will shoot up to 16 to 18 in couple of days. However, the instant mileage shows upto 25 kmpl(WOW.if its average)

AFTER 500 KMS!

My Manza has done 500 kms in a week. I just wanted to share some experience. The driveability is just amazing. I dont remember how many times I crossed 100 kmph(in local road, not in highways). This pongal holidays(4 days) I am planning to cover about 1000 kms. I am able to get about 15 to 16 kmpl fuel efficiency(100% ac on). The music system(its just not music system.an integrated system) is just mind blowing.you can control everything through it(even the keyhole illumination time!). The seat belt alarm is welcoming feature. I never felt tired of driving my machine though some of days I drove more than 150 kms in the city.

The engine just zooms after 2000 rpm. I observed the noise of the engine is slightly more between 1800 & 2000. After 2500 rpm the engine is so smooth. The gear ratio is perfect for both city and long drive. Wait for more experience till next week. Wishing you Happy pongal & shankranti.

AFTER 1400 KMS (FIRST SERVICE DONE!)

Today my manza has gone for first service(between 1000 and 1500 kms). I could not believe that last two days I drove about 900 kms across various cities in Tamilnadu.

I went for a family trip starting from Coimbatore-Salem-Trichy-Kumbakonam-Karaikal and returned to Coimbatore yesterday night.

OOOppppsss.I just loved the journey.(except few bad roads: cursing the highways authorities). Here are the few experience that I wanted to share with all of you!

-> The speed at which it cruises is just mind blowing. I touched 140(100 to 140 in 30 secs) once in a four lane high way. You wont believe when I checked the RPM.it was just less than 3000 when the speedo shown 140 KMPH!. I just did this only once and I recorded the video also. If anyone wants, pls send a mail to s.mohan77@gmail.com, I can share it.

-> The best speed for mileage is 90 kmph at 2000 rpm. At this speed I got more than 17. Otherwise my average mileage so far is 16.6 KMPL.

->The shocks are really good that the passengers feel so comfortable inside(this I tested as I drove on a very bad road between kumbakonam and Karaikal: 50 kms)

-> The AC is quick and effective. No engine lag while the AC is on.

-> The power of the engine is so amazing that I could overtake any cars very comfortably. Many swifts, innovas, Scorpios, fiestas, City(old) I took over. The only car crossed me was New Honda City(I was just driving at 90 kmph to manage mileage!). Twice I had race. Once with old city and once with Vista(T-board).Man I didn't struggle to manage them. It was pretty simple to show the power of Manza. Finally they gave up!

-> The back seat is supremely comfortable as my parents and 7 year old daughter(she was playing!) just enjoyed on board.

-> The braking is the one which makes you feel like king. You apply, it will give you the confidence to go at any speed. It comes to halt just in no time. some couple of incidents(some real idiots) tested my ABS.

-> I should say about the steering(hydraulic assisted) which was as firm as ever. You can point anywhere accurately. I just loved those stereo and bluetooth controls. I never stopped anywhere for attending my phone calls. I downloaded all my contacts in to that.

-> I used the lowest height for seating position at highways and the steering as well. For the city drive I pushed the seat little up to have better visibility.

Few problems that I faced (though not severe)

-> Felt little pain over right foot ankle after driving more than 400 kms while returning(may be due to the height of accelerator pedal)

-> The alarm sound(not the indicator) for the seat belt stopped working. Today the service people attended and said there was some loose connection in fuse. It was fixed.

-> The Jackie holder at the bottom of the car touched some uneven(really stupid road contractors) humps. Nothing to worry as no where else the bottom touched.

-> The car is too big to clean. If some one(like me :-)) is lazy to clean the car, either appoint a cleaning person(will definitely ask more for this car) or take it to nearby water service station for cleaning regularly.(take it on the lighter side.)

->Still the back mud flop is not available with dealers. The look from the back really sucks without mud flop. Should be there in a couple of days.

STILL THINKING! Don't stop at any show rooms. Go to TATA show room and book a Manza! I am sure you will feel like a KING. Its the flying machine!

Chennai India
The best looking sedan
Dec 31, 2009 04:59 PM 9495 Views

Manza the new launch from TATA is the best looking car in the portfolio of TATA cars. I recently bought this car(Monarch Red).  Initially, I had lots of doubts about this new model and did lot of survey and finally got convinced with this model. Let me demarcate the review in to two parts. I believe that you would have read enough reviews about this new model and I don’t want to write a review just for the sake of writing it. I'm hoping that this review will add some value. For detailed review, please click this link https://overdrive.in/story-test_drives-test_drives/mansize-25062-0.html

My expectations were:

1) Lots of space

2) Economical

3) Fuel efficiency

Here are my observations.

The car looks massive from both inside and outside. The major advantage is the boot space. I don’t think any car in this category has this much boot space. You will feel like as if you were travelling in a MERC.I had compared it with couple of other cars in this segment and I think I made the right choice. I had been too tempted by the Manza for the pride of owning a Sedan. The others in contention for me were - the Dzire, Linea, and the Verna. I discarded the Dzire because I feel that the boot has been grafted on in a tacky manner. The Linea and Verna are really good cars but are too big for me! I mean the budget…. Manza seemed the obvious choice as it looked very sleek and sophisticated, priced well below the competitors. The other plus-point is the fuel-efficiency. My car gives me a mileage of 14 km in the city and am not sure about the mileage in highways. Will update you later.

The first flaw I found in the car was that the car just doesn’t have any great power in the third gear! The second flaw is the plastics used in the car. I believe that these small things will be rectified in the long run.

If you are looking for a car that

1) Runs on Diesel

2) Suitable for long drives.

3) Provides a capacious boot space

4) Provides ample leg space for all 5 passengers
This car is definitely a value for money. Now I feel much relaxed and satisfied after having purchased this one.

I will update you with some more info after the first service.

My Test ride review
Dec 24, 2009 02:30 PM 9604 Views

Please ignore Reliabilty + dealer satisfaction as its just test ride reveiw. My Mama thought of buying new car.

As usual like every Aam admi he started research from ground zero level. In his list one is TATA Manza. He took me along for a test ride.

I am very lucky to say I done the test ride(As my mama is bit novice driver More over he just want feedback from some other who is interested on Automobiles (I am lucky to say he pointed out me for that).)Though I am not automobile expert like every indian I too dream about cars and I had hands of experience on my dads car(Matiz).

LOOKS: Surprising this time Tata came with good muscle in this area. Though it not as muscular as linea still I can tell its very good compared to/Among all others. Look wise frond end it look like Indica Vista + More cosmotic polishes( Why I say more is It will not look as it as indica vista I can say still far better.)The dashboard and inner looks are same as indica vista no change at all except Ac control system.

SPACE INSIDE: Yes it scores 100% in this area. It very spacious( A bit more than indica vista).Front seating is same as indica vista. coming to back row seats. More leg space + elegant arm rests with cup holder really nice and royal touch.I must say abot it boot space wow its like double cot bed. Really Big.

POWER: Fait engine + fait gear box + chassis wow.....Good...Yes I am unable to get recognise when I start this big car. No vibrations in cabin(petrol one)> Switching gears is good and smooth (No comment). But I dont know why I felt this car is little under powered.(Dont blame me 90bhp, xx Nm etc etc suppose engineeer has to bother)From my point it has to Zoom when I press accelerator. I can say its really good but not super or fantastic.Hah sorry to say bad suspension(yes I felt its not upto mark not really bad just its 2 steps below mark).

HANDLING: I felt its pretty decent. I felt steering wheel is small.

ELECTRONICS: I saw music control system + Bluethooth control on steering wheel.I hadnt checked any but the guy(sales guy) told bluethooth, 2 Din music player(i dont know what it is as I am much concentrating on driving + trying to extractpower for this Big car).

MILEAGE: The guy claims 13 in city well we are suppose not to belive I guess it might give 10 - 11kmpl in city

On a whole my VERDICT:

Look wise surprising and promise elegant brand

Space wise wow Big tummy family car

Power wise very good but mummy I am child in pickup.

Handling wise Yummy Handle me like a child.

Cost wise wow a bomb on you haha dont get surprise

all this just for 5.95 (auro model) on road. Excellent we have to really clap for Ratan Tata.

  • Please note all the review is based on test ride.

So no question of reliabilty and dealer satisfication

All above are my personal views.

Love at first sight

It is just tempting .with the features which only can be in thoughts have actually included in it. And the price unbelievably low.

It is really soemthing moer than one expects, a car for everyone.

The dream of owning a hoher class car .can be easily fulfilled  and the owner has to be proud of the possesion.

When it will stand in my parking lounge.it is 100% to be admired, with lots of envy.

So it is neghbours envy and owners pride.

The joy ride of dreams and total satisfaction about the decsion taken to choose from the number of other models avaialble.

And the space inside gives the royal feel

TVS Indigo Manza
Fake

TVS Indigo Manza is costly car available around rupees 650000 on agencies in India. This car is available on many colours like white, black, grey extra. This car was not good on the comparison of looks. The interior provided in this car was very bad and made up of poor quality of material. The Indian provided in this car has not in a great mileage and offers you a poor pickup also. This car is not good for treveling so long as well as for daily purposes. Don't buy this car because at that high price range you will get different varieties of cars with lots of awesome features.
