Tata Indica V2 Xeta Reviews

Indica V2 XETA, GLS the best in class (updated)
Jul 10, 2009 09:51 AM 9568 Views

This is my second car, I owned a santro xing Aug 03 model, this time I decided to go for India Xeta v2 GLS, it is really a value for money car. I purchased it on 25 June 09 in Score a century offer, Silver color. Got Rs. 30, 000/- cash discount. The car is great in space, comfort and safety. I touched 100 KMPH on fifth gear on second day with ease there was no noise, no vibrations felt, absolutely silent cabin and engine. It takes alittle time to pick up from 50 - 90 in 4th gear, gear shift are smooth, Interiors are best in class. Strong engine but a little sluggish while attaining speed above 70 KMPH till 100 but I guess that will improve after first service.

Also got free mats, left hand mirror and mud flaps from Fortune motors, Thane. Mr. Jackson Kunder, sales guy was very helpful and attentive. He gave us the vehicle on promised date. Also got front power windows, sun film and JVC speakers installed at reasonable price. On road cost came to Rs. 3, 25, 000/-. Mileage is good too, 14 KMPL. Air conditioner cools the cabin at 1st level instantly. Suspensions are too good. Braking is effective as well.

It is best in class limousine for a common man. Its really a great car. Light in boot is additional feature, seats in the back have lot of leg room and space for 3 healthy adults. Drivers seat offers very good leg room and comfortable drive. I have clocked 682 KMS till date with not a single complaint about the vehicle. There is also headlight leveller. Three cheers to Mr. Tata for Indica a indegineously built great vehicle. Vehicle is very easy to handle with power steering in spite of big size. It is big small car.

My friends if you have a budget in the range of 3 - 3.25 lacs go and get Indica XETA V2. You will definately enjoy. Although looks are not that great but still everything does not come in a single package. Also got Rs. 1500 gift hamper. It has 32 bit microprocessor controlled engine also.

I have just completed my 1st service and the odometer has clocked 1200 KMS the Cars performance has improved a lot after first service, tried on ghat roads, rough roads, express way, excellent performance till date. The spolier on the top works good and provides good stability at 100 KMPH with AC on and 4 passengers. It is much better than Santro Xing also the spares are economical.

Recently have done my car's second service at 4800 KMS, got it done at fortune motors in a good manner got all parts serviced and fluids topped up. After the servicing the car feels all new again. Also got teflon coating and coating on engine done at economical rate. Due to bad roads near my office and due to potholes on highway I had to do the tyre alingment. Apart fom this the vehicle is in perfect condition. It is really a tough car as compared to any other small car in the category. The mileage has also improved.

Now I have clocked 9000 KMS got my third service done, changed the engine oil & did wheel alignment. Also got the rubberized painting done from inside to prevent corrosion. Now the mileage has improved very well it is now 15 - 16 KMPL. The engine is more smoother, gears are like knife on butter. No noise and a very quite, enjoyable ride.  XETA is GREAT!

I have now clocked 13500 KMS, I have driven my vehicle on all type of roads. It drives with very ease.

The only significant problem I have found is high weight of the vehicle as a reasult in case of bad roads the rim of the radial bends. Air has to be maintained in all the tyres in perfect ratio otherwise there are chances of tyre puncture, wheel alignment getting disturbed. Once in 5000 KMS, wheel alignment and balancing has to be done. Otherwise no problem.  The mileage I am getting is around 15KM/LT with AC ON.  Servicing is also very economical. Driving XETA is fun.

Best car in hatchback segment
Apr 17, 2009 01:17 PM 10025 Views

I purchased this indica Xeta GLG in 2007 may. I visited showrooms of Hyundai, GM, maruti suzuki & TATA . Actually all my close people were suggesting me for santro or swift. No one suggested me or even informed me about xeta , because they were having image of a taxi or a truck like look in indica.I am a management person so I always look for the best product at best price.

And acc to today's fashion & taste no one of small cars were matching acc to today's demand, then I decided to move towards mid size segment, I was just passing from TATA's showroom there I read 1.2 ltr xeta, i was not aware that indica petrol is also available in 1200 cc. I moved inside & they showed me a salsa red colour xeta, when I sat inside to check space & driver seat, i got fan of this car & decided to purchase this car only & no other else. All my close ones said me why r u purchasing TATA's car but I heard only of my heart, actually people had made a very bad image of TATA cars in thir mind they afraid of buying a TATA's car.

Finally when I purchased my monster & when I showed to all my close people, relatives all got jealous even those who were having sedan like SX4, due to it's space plush beige interior, boot & engine compartment light , fog lamps , dashing salsa red colour, silencer's muhler tip, four spoke steering which is only in skoda cars, giving great feeling by silencer sound & powerful engine , pick up, ground clearence, wheel arch flairs & many more. I felt that I had purchased sedan instead of a hatchback, also whenever I drive this car I fell the pleasure of driving a sedan.

Generally people love short gears, which are too short in santro & wagoner, but I love the best lenght gvn in xeta it's niether too short not too long. Performance is excellent, this car takes no time in reaching the max speed u want. I should say best car for long routes , to drive on highway. Also best with Dealer & after sale service, many a times they come self at home for a free check up, like a service given by BMW. They have good technical systems like engine check thru laptop & I had also done it once when I thought it's not giving good mileage but after I got to know that problem was at the petrol pump. They also did some changes thru laptop which finally resulted in a good average.

A SMALL WORD FOR THOSE WHO R THINKING TO BUY A NEW CAR "JUST CHECK IT OUT ON UR OWN" DON'T GO ON OTHER'S VIEW OR RUMOURS.

Poor service backup and worst is the reliability
Mar 31, 2009 10:12 AM 6710 Views

I have purchased a Tata Indica Xeta in the year 2007 . Since then only after completing my free services the first thing I did was to switch over to a road side workshop so that I can get the quality service. In authorized dealers the level of service provided is worst and it only adds to the deterioration of your car.

Within this period of two years my car A/C broke down thrice. Simply non reliability is the word I can say .I have already filed a consumer forum case against one of the dealer who caused dents and scratches on my car when I went for the service in the workshop.

Apart from that on the very first service another Tata's authorized dealer gave me a bill of 1100 rupees extra for adding some useless additives to the engine and gearbox. If these additives are required to be added above the lubricants already needed to be changed during regular service then why Tata is not recommending quality lubricants to their cars?

Even when I asked the dealer personnel not to put any additive he still gave me an extra bill of 165 rupees when my car has only run for 1500 KMs for catalytic convector cleaning. Its a simple joke that a car requires catalytic covertor to be cleaned at mere 1500 KMs and if anyone knows a bit technically then its also a fact that no catalytic convector can be cleaned as it is a sealed unit which has to be replaced.

Simply these Indian manufacturers are making owners a fool and extort money . In comparison to these silly Indian car manufacturers I would suggest people to purchase Japanese or American cars as they really care for the customers and their cars.Tata should stop extorting money from the customers to make payment for their ailling brands abroad.

Mileage of indica xeta glg
Mar 31, 2009 08:23 AM 8323 Views

I bought in jan 2008 , have driven 9000 kms so far, adhered to gear changing rules advised by Tata motors people, upto 10km speed 1st gear, above 10km speed 2 nd gear, above 20km speed 3rd gear, above 30km speed 4th gear and above 40km speed 5th gear.

Last week I traveled to places around Mangalore crossing ghat roads and hilly terrain with AC running for 305kms and got mileage of 16.88 kms per litre.

Again from Mangalore to Bangalore I got 16.73km per litre and everyone expressed their surprise at the fantastic mileage I am getting. Aggregate mileage from o kms to till now is 13.78.I learnt car driving in this new car only after learning from driving school.

I am happy with Ac . It pulls up even in ghat sections with out any problem. Space is a lot and my sons of 6 foot height can sit comfortably with out knee pain in back seats.I bought this as value for money on my brother in law's advice as he has experienced over 25 cars in a span of 15 years. He changes frequently to gain depreciation loss on his corporate a/c income tax.It is absolutely smooth except you have to push the doors al little hard to close it completely.

Added on 09/06/2010 after driving 15500kms till date.

Last month while  before returning from B'lore  I noticed increase in RPM and car was taking5-10 seconds after taking foot from throttle pedal and we went to Prerana Motors for check up, it was found that throttle body has opened with a gap of  5-10mms which was bound by 4 bolts and all it's nuts missing. Though it was a Sunday and they won't undertake servicing without prior appointment service executive promptly cheked and got it fixed by afternoon. I am still clueless how throttle body's nuts were loosened.

I am driving through Ghat areas frequently and with 5 people and AC on it is atill giving 15-16kms. I am happy with it's performance. I got break discs (front) changed under warranty 10 months back as the Car was shuddering while applying brake. Service is prompt and satisfactory.

It is value for money .

My little monster, Indica Xeta GVG.
Jan 28, 2009 09:09 PM 7958 Views

This is my second review on Xeta GVG and it's been more than two years I have been using this car. There are so many things to portray about this small beauty and I can write an endless review about my little monster but let me pen down some important ones which will be useful for all the Xeta lovers. Here I go:

1.Two years back I was looking for a small/midsize car within 4lacs and I almost zeroed down to Alto and about to give the advance amount to book this car.The same day one of my friend who later termed as “Angel” suggested me to evaluate Indica Xeta.I went to Concorde Motors and test drove one and what to say it completely changed my opinion about Tata vehicles(They can only make trucks).I cancelled my plan of going for Alto and immediately booked Xeta-GVG’1.2L engine(Black) with a waiting period of almost a month(Because of Black colour). The key things which dragged me to book this car were:

a.Space inside the car.(As my height is 6.2").

b.Two toned beige interiors.

c.1.2lt engine which is quite powerful in it's segment.

d.Discount I got at the time of booking along with other goodies.

e.On-road price of the car.

f.Easy finance from TMFL(Tata Motors Finance Ltd.) with approval in flat 7 days.

2.Now about the driving experience I would say this car is the best hatchback in it’s class.Manual Power steering is good(If not better), Brakes are pretty effective, and of course how can I forget the powerful AC with HVAC(Optional) which is just awesome.Though people often compare this with Santro and Swift’s AC but let me tell you they are way behind as far as cooling is concerned. It has double blower which none of the cars in this segment have and it cools the entire cabin pretty fast and often I switch off the AC while driving.Yes pickup does go down in AC but this holds good for all the cars in this segment.

3.My car has clocked 15500Kms in 2 years and believe me I have not spent even a single penny till date on it(Except for OIL change, Washing and Bumper painting once).

4.Few modifications which I think can be incorporated in future models are:

a.Better Plastic quality(Dash board and door trims).

b.Better Exterior paint quality.

c.Visibility from driver’s seat.

d.Little bit more Boot space.

e.Factory fitted Alloy wheels with Tubeless tyres.

f.Provision for 2Din Music System.

f.Better service personnel.

Just to sum it up I can only say this car can fit into any middle class family with aspiration of owning a car at an affordable price.According to me ”Tata Rocks”.

Happy about the product
Dec 25, 2008 02:33 PM 8667 Views

I got 11 km/lit in city without a.c. with LPG I got 10.75 km/lit on indian high way with A.C. WITH LPG.

It has been observed that there is little less pick up in LPG compare to petrol run.u can say about 10 to 15 % less. which is also true in the case of with A/C & WITHOUT A/C. still I am trying my best to get good average. But still some body preferably from company side or any expert can comment on the average.Otherwise over all driving experience is good.

If company justifies the average then they should do proper marketing because of eco-friendly & less competition like maruti 800, wagon r & santro. The only suggestion would be to increase back space(dicky space). It is very less because of extra tyre. If possible there should be design change to keep it horizontal.

I am not much happy with dealer.Marketing person used to be absent when I used to call.I finished all transaction just in 10 days right from visiting for the first time till delivery. Same kind of experience at service center. There was no body to clarify my doubts & concern person who handled me was not having enough knowledge.

Overall experience with the vehicle is good but still I was expecting at lease 15 to 16 km/lit avg.

I want to add on this about my feedback on the same product.Very happy to take decision on this product when I saw lot of people were fighting for petrol & diesel when there was strike & shortage of fuel last week . I stood in q just not more that 4 minute & I was with tank full & that also rs 30.66 per liter no extra money , no q & enjoyed my driving , looking other people standing in huge q for 2-3 days . now I will be again happy when price will go down in a day or 2. just too much happy wth my decesion.thanks.

I purchased TATA INDICA XETA GLG (1405 cc) during Oct 2006 from Hind Motors Chandigarh. While buying few points were in mind which included space, comfort and above all an indigenous product. Fuel efficiency was not a major criterion for buying.

This product was launched in 2006 and had apprehensions about its success; however, I decided this product as it came from the TATAs. I am happy with my selection/choice. I am getting the fuel consumption within city limit is 10-12 km/liter and 15-17 km/liter on highway. Heater and Air Conditioner work well and are considerably effective.

Only one point where I am not satisfied that is the wheel (rim) area. These are too light for the car and frequently get damaged on bumpy or bad roads. This also affects the tyres and wheel alignment. People at TATA Motors need to look at this as all the roads in India are not smooth.

What more you can get for those bucks
Dec 07, 2008 01:17 AM 7678 Views

I stay in Ahmedabad. I purchased this car of 1.4L GLS around October 2006. 2 years self driving. limited distance. So not much to test it on hard terrain.

Space:

It is spacious to other cars like Estello, Wagon R or Santro or Spark. 3 persons on back seat could sit comfortably. Couple of months back I packed 5 kids at back and 2 in front to take them for a movie.

Mileage:

Obviously, not great. It gives around 11 km in city condition. I could hardly switch to 4th gear through out these 2 years in my city ride. I am planning to install LPG kit. But scared to see so many cars catching fire.

Drive:

Drive quality is reasonable. Not bad in fact. The only trouble is it shape. Bikes, hand carts, cycles all have managed to create their own graffiti on my car.

Dealer:

Cargo Motors are the dealers. Their service is good. To be true I have no complaints. The best part is never go to dealer from 3rd service onwards. It is expensive. Get it done outside. Even 1st and 2nd service could be done outside, unless your car gives some trouble.

Insurance:

I got the insurance arranged by the dealer. Again no problem. when my bumper got damaged, they managed it to get replaced with in 2 days under insurance cover.

Drawback:

Couple of things never change in India. All my car window winders were not working properly from day one.

Central Locking & Sterio:

I got it done from outside. It is much cheaper if you get it done outside. Preferably old city (Mirzapur). At the dealer they are expensive.

Good Car with some compromises...
Nov 17, 2008 02:07 PM 7167 Views

So it All begun when I wanted to buy a Car last year. I almost visited every car show rooms in NOIDA and DELHI. I visited Hyundai, Maruti, GM and Finally TATA. I needed a small car well fitted in my budget and good in space....

As anyone can tell that no body can beat Indica when it comes to inner space in its segment. I went for Xeta as my use is minimal for heavy use I suggest you should go for Indica Diesel or you can go for Swift Diesel if you can increase your budget.

I owned a INDICA XETA 1.2 GLG Variant:

So here are the plus points.

  1. Very good inner space 5 healthy people can sit comfortably (including driver)... :)

  2. Strong/Heavy Car gives stability on higher speeds (very stable at 120 km/hr).

  3. Smooth gear shift, lesser gear changes in city condition (I didn't faced any problem with gear shift)

  4. Gives you a feel of driving a big Car.

  5. Nice Interiors ( better than WagonR, Sanrto and Diesel version of Indica).

  6. Has more features than WagonR Vxi, and Santro XL at lesser price.

OK, time for Some Negative points.

As far as the car is concerned I am very satisfied with the car.

But, As far as far service and after sales is concerned... Tata has to do a lot.... And I mean a Lot...

Tata doesn't have any control over his dealers or service centers like Hyundai and Maruti have.

For instance, I had an accident last year because which my cars front left side door was required to be changed.

Points for you to notice here.

  1. Nobody was ready to take my car for insurance claim.Everybody told me to go to the dealer from where I have bought the Car.

  2. After visiting so many dealers... I gave up and Finally went to the Dealer Nawab Motors from where I bought this car... After reaching there they told me that they are no more selling Tata Cars so they can't do anything, which was very frustrating. As I have already beign denied by other Tata dealers to entertained. After putting a lot of pressure from some links finally they repared my car. And Now I have a my car with a problematic left front door... :(

So thats it guys.... in this review I have tried to be honest and have written my personal experience with TATA.

I still recommend this car to everyone.

If you can find a good service center then this car is still a  good buy.

Oh.. for got to mention... the mileage thing... it gives me 11.5/ltr to12.5/ltr in City condition and up to 13.5/ltr to 14 km/ltr in high ways.

Nov 08, 2008 07:10 AM 7429 Views

This is my First Review so please don't mind the mistakes.

I have been a member of MS from last 3 years but its my first as I feel like writing.

Most of the Bad reviews actually helped me buy this CAR

I got a XETA GLS about a Month back (7th OCT) from Auto Links DELHI (GOOD CAR BAD DEALER).

I had Hard Time of Paper Work (Mainly Because of TATA MF) and My Time Contrains the Buying Experience wasn't so good but no complaints as I got what I Wanted on my terms.

I even Had Starting Issues within 2 weeks.

The Review Might Seem Contradicting at times but there will always be a reason for that

Its GLS Grey Colour

Coming strait to the Point.

ODO Says --  1200 KMS Done

First Service DONE

CONs

-- The car gets HOT and it mean really HOT Take this - I parked the car on a wet area on Road  and I Actually SAW Water on the road Evaporating under the Engine and the Silencer Area ( It was 25 KM Drive Without AC).

-- As per some of the Review I haven't vitnessed the CABIN Heat

-- Baige Interior (Fabric Part) is GOOD Plastic BAAAD .its actually really soft  (I have Seen/Drove I10 Its worst in that mentioning this bcause that was really a shock for a 4 LAC car).

-- Pick up With AC and DRIVE is SLOw ( One of the review Said it hosts 350 KG AC) .Beaves like a Bullock CART -yeah sometimes

-- This Is MY Feeling I think the BOOT might be Its DEEP but NARROW all 4 sides. BIG Thing Go Infront.

-- Its a Left HAND SIDE BLINDER for SURE ( Get those Rear Views for left Side at any Cost )

-- Rear View is Limited

CONS are MORE a Combination of Design and technical STUFF

PROs

-- It's been Said Hell Lot Times and thats the Biggest Thing you will SEE BIIIIIG  ROOM Where Ever U SEE. Like u can play Foot Ball Inside it ;-).

-- I am a office Go-er not a busines per to load up stuff or PPL and my drive is 50% City 50 % highway This Car Speeds and Runs Like hell (Stricly W/O AC).

-- Mileage well due to My route its 13-14 KMPL with 60% AC in sonn it will increase due to winters and as the Service has been done ;-)

-- 65 horses with 1200 CC you will only know the meaning once you are fully loaded Single person drives is not a good Standerd.

-- I have Not Tested the SPEEDs YET but Max I been to 110 with A|C ZERO VIBERATION on the FIREWALL or Stearing GEAR YES OFFCOURCE ;-)

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

If you are buying this and are a bit confused by some of the bad reviews listen to this

-- 350 KG A\c Means Cooling in Seconds

-- Heavy Sheet Metal Then at least Maruti or Hyundai

-- Heavy car Means the car is Pressed to the Road on high Speeds (May be you guys have Heard an 800 Took Off on 120+ SPEED on the DND Flyway Delhi)

-- Milage for Me Is Good 2 rules for that * Correct Tyre Pressure Stricly as the Company says. ** Change the gear to go up Everytime Tacho says 20000RPM (well you cannot go above 5 )

-- Some of the reviews Say the CAR feels hard to drive or its not a effortless drive

Well if you notice in maruti's and Hyundai's the controls are too soft if you are heavy footer half of the time you will not know that you are pushing the                      Cluch or Acclerator. The Padel controls in XETA are Stiff YES for reason THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING WITH THE CONTROLS

-- None of the Minus Points will stops you from HAVING A GREAT DRIVE

-- The Engine has been toaned down to move this heavy car on mere 8000 RPM Learn to Use that in Traffic snarls

REMEMBER these to get the BEST of you small trucky ;-)

-- REMEMBER you are running 1200 CC Event Some Sedans dont have it and it is tonned down to give you better Milage

-- Remember the Sticker on the top Right of the Wind shield

-- Remember to turn off the AC on red lights

-- Remember that this is HIT CAR

-- Remember UNDER 3 LAKHS ITS A COMPROMISE IN ITSELF

I Strictly recommed this car OVER SANTRo Wagon R

OverAll Experiance

CAR    -I Respect it and LOVE IT

TATA     -GOOD

AUTO LINKS DELHI MEERA BAGH  -BAD

TATA MF    -Pethetic (They just didn't ask for my JANAMPATRI Otherwise they asked for Everything)

XETA GLG just have it yesterday
Nov 05, 2008 11:57 AM 5489 Views

I booked my Sliver Xeta GLG 1.2 (Petrol) on 4th October and get it yesterday on 05th November 2008. Already clocked 100 KMs. I like to give many many thanks to Mouthshut and Team BHP for choosing this vehicle. I had a Maruti 800. It was so cramped. Knees always touched front seats. Very uncomfortable for even 20-30 KMs journey. This XETA has more than enough Leg Space. Nice height too for taller people. Engine is very quite. From inside even my windows are half open I often get confused wheather it is running or not. Now some pros n cons : (though only after 100 KMs ) -

Pros:

  1. Superior Space (You never feel that u r driving a Hatch). I drove with 4 average size ppl in back and two including me in front.

  2. Toughest body after Ambassador. U always feel very safe.

  3. Very silent and refined engine.

  4. High mount Break Lamp & lamp in luggage compartment.

  5. Engine RPM meter (very useful)

  6. Suspension is very good. Just like sedan.

  7. Beige interior.

  8. AC is very powerful.

  9. Front fog lamps are very useful for potholes and bad roads.

  10. Indian brand - I am proud to be an Indian.

Cons:

  1. Look is not so good.

  2. Loud sound of AC when u put it to 3/4 speed.

  3. Luggage compartment is bit small.

  4. Tyres look smaller.

  5. Power windows (front) switch are placed in the centre of console insted of doors.

  6. Bonet open knob is very tricky.

  7. Little bit sluggish in low speed.

  8. Power steering doesnot respond well in low speed.

Still I suggest you this car before 800/Alto/Wagan-R/ZEN Estillo(feminine car)/Santro/i-10 if your budget is Rs.3.00 to 4.00 Lakhs just because of its service availability (just after Maruti), cheap spare parts, Big car like feel and very powerful and silent engine.

Xeta GLG: A Great Car
Oct 19, 2008 11:10 AM 5586 Views

I am having Indica DLE (diesel) version since April'99 and am very satisfied with the performance of the same. Now recently on 17th October I went for Xeta GLG model. (U can say it's merely 3 days old). Although I was not satisfied from the dealer point of view.but owing the GLG car I felt v.proud.. Today I happened to visit on  long drive. Simultaneously I thought why not to check the mileage of the although it had run on 35 km in the city.

The method I used was Full tank to full tank from one petrol station. I travelled 201 km and again refilled the fuel from the same petrol station...it was filled byt only 9.67 litres. In that way the mileage came out to more than 20km per litre on highway..The speed of the car was between 65-70 km/ hour which the company claims to get the best average in these conditions. With this, I am again v.satisfied with the vehicle. Rest I will drive in the city condition and hop to get good mileage here and then post the review in coming days.

Happy motoring.

Never Buy a Xeta
Oct 06, 2008 04:16 PM 19807 Views

There are 2 basic problems in this car, which you cannot judge by reading just specifications provided by TATA motors.

  1. Weight

  2. Heating, A/C

Some other problems are

  1. Expensive original spare parts.

  2. ECU is not stable.

  3. Fuel Meter not linear.

  4. Pickup on A/C ON.

  5. Tyre Size

  6. Rear View

  7. Mileage

  8. Rear Door closing.

  1. Weight :

A. The weight of the car is more than almost all sedan cars. So you must compomise on Mileage, Pickup, Handling, You always feel load on your body. You cannot drive this car more than 60km/h in city while SANTRO, ALTO can be driven to 100km/h easily. It is all just because of weight. Weight reduces the pick-up so while you need pick-up, this car fails, Weight reduces reliability of braking (sometimes skidding problem, sometimes it takes time to stop the car fully). The power to weight ratio disallow this car to use for Office going people on peak hours.

The weight of the car feels you driving like a bus or truck. though I drive this car @ 160Km/h. but only once to try it. As the speed ups the heart beats up. You feel a load on your body in high speed. & due to heavy weight the breaking is very risky & skiddy. I drove Santro, Driving a Santro is like it is a BACHCHON KA KHEL. ( I am driving cars when I was 11 years.)

The car can go 160Km/h, because of its power but not safe due to unbalanced high weight & small tyres of the car.

You cannot make a U turn at the speed of 50km/h. But all other cars like ALTO - 70km/h took U turn. Wagon R 60km/h. Santro 70km/h. Swift 80km/h. honda city 100km/h. Try this you will find that car shockers & balance are not proper for Zigzag driving.

  1. Heating : Due to bad design of petrol engine & bad design of isolation of cabin. The car gets hot very early as compare with other cars. The cabin isolation is poor, you cannot drive this car without A/C even in October & November.

  2. The Service & spare parts is expensiv than Maruti & Hyundai's original parts. Outside parts will void the warranty. Parts for Diesel Indica is cheap outside. Parts specially made for Xeta are not available in the local market. Hyundai & Maruti original parts is surely cheaper.

TATA voids ur warranty even if U use a K&F air filter.

TATA voids ur warranty if u installed a CNG kit on it. Only dealer can install the kit which is available double the price. In market same kit is available in 36K. Dealer go for not less than 62k for the same kit.

Every manufacturer voids the warranty but Maruti & Hyundai Santro are time tested so u can take risk. The non authorized service stations can service Maruti & Santro & Disel Indica too. But most of mechanic says, even if you install cetral locking outside it gives you a check engine warning.

4.ECU is not stable, manytimes my car gives Check Engine without any problem. As I went to workshop they charged me Rs450/- as my Central locking is from outside. The same cetral locking from Autocop is available @ 2600 in market & same is for Rs.5200/ at dealer. & warned me that if dealer keep record online that you installed central locking from outside, TATA will void the warranty.

Again I got Check Engine. I wait for 2 days. & It went off itself. One mechanic suggested me, if check engine comes, remove battery wire for 4 to 12 hours, if there is no problem. it will got reset.

  1. Fuel meter is not accurate (not linear), so you must fill the tank full everytime you want to check your mileage. As the petrol prices are high, this is the most imp factor.

The fuel meter is FAST but not accurate. The needle comes to half very slow & after half it goes down very fast.

  1. Pickup on A/C is very low. Even M800 has better pick-up with A/C on.

The pick-up of xeta remain half with A/C on. The heat resistance of cabin is not effective. actually Indica uses big A/C. so A/C is effective due to it is very big. It is "Jugarh". If you cannot make something, you can make it big to sell off. Like Videocon do.

The A/C of XETA is about 360KG, M800 A/C - 80 Kg

ALTO A/C is 120KG, WAGONR/Zen - 180KG, Santro/i10 - 240KG. City - 380Kg but no effect on pick-up.

Bigger A/C gives fast cooling & low pickup. But design of cooling system & isolation from engine & isolation of cabin, is the biggest factor.

Buying an Indian product is always compromise in comparision with a Japanese system.

  1. Tyre size is small for this kind of heavy & wide body. So more frequently you need to wheel balance & whell alignment.

  2. Rear view is blind, You need to buy right side rear view mirror. For city riding this is unsafest small car.

  3. Mileage - I cannot say anything this time. Read this : HE MILEAGE IS VERY LOW. I FOUND A SECRET SO I AM GETTING THIS MILEAGE. (I KEEP TYRE PRESSURE FRONT TYRES - 35, REAR TYRES - 32) as the cost of petrol is very high then tyre price. But it is also not safe on summers & long run. tyre can brust anytime.

My car gives 9Km/L - full A/C ON, @ 30KM/H everage speed (City).

11KM/l - Non A/C @ 30KM/H average speed (City).

11KM/L - On saturday /sunday - Average speed 50Km/h - A/C ON

16KM/L on highway with A/C OFF

15Km/L on Highway with A/C ON.

11Km/l on Saturday/Sunday means there is no traffic on road. It means it is like running on highway with little curves. & No red light ( I am talking about RING Road of DELHI.)

One of my friend his alto gives a mileage of 16km/l said, you dont know how to drive a car.

We exchanged our car for 10 days. & ALTO gave me 17km/l (100% A/C ON) & Xeta gave him 9Km/l (90% AC ON - On steap slopes, - AC OFF & Switched off the AC at red signal, and put it back on once in 3rd gear)

  1. Rear Door closing: Rear door closing are same as used in TATA trucks. You have to close them with a little more effort.

  2. Poewer Steering pump which cost Rs 11000 is out of body, on any bad designed speed bracker can broke this anytime. So Xeta owners alway go very slow on speed brackers & never tilt on speed bracker.

Other small minus points :

Frontside - Side bumper. TATA says it BROW. is very hard to keep safe in City driving.

The shape looks good in Metallic colors but not safe for city driving. The shape is very sexy but due to Taxi image you cannot say it is stylish.

Only space & beidge interior attracted me. So if you need a little truck with a car go for this.

Or you are an spare part dealer. It is the cheapest Utility car available.

The biggest PROS: this car is the safest as the sheet metal is very hard. I daily check for the belt whether it will work if I meet with an accident. Because the car is very heavy. You must bear the impact of this weight on your body in case of accident. so only belt is the safety feature. NO ABS NO AIR BAGS. Dont forget its weight which is very dangerous while driving fast.

Today Santro on-road is 3.2Lakh & 3, 7Lakh with aproved dealer fitted CNG

kit with extended warranty. ALTO is 2.95Lakh on-road, with immoblizer. Both the cars are better, if you compromise on a little space. If you are not taller than 6’ go for Santro (Electric power steering & Minimum turning radius is 4.2m), if you are not taller than 5’6’’ go for an ALTO.

I mentioned that Xeta is for businessman, who loads som

Planning to buy a Xeta, please read this

I bought a used Maruti 800 in february last year. I am 6.1 foot, so you can well understand the level of comfort I had in the car.... :)

So I planned for a bigger and a new car. Had a budget of 4.0 lakhs at max. All my friends own cars, most of them were Santro. However there is Ford Icon, Wagon R, Accent & Swift also. So I had tested my driving skills on all of them. There was no need for me to go for test drives of all the cars that came in my budget.

Suddenly I planned to go for a Tata Indica test drive. It was a amazing experience for me when I drove the car for the first time. From inside it was like a big car without the bootspace. I decided to go for a Indica Petrol.

Got my car delivered on 12th September 08 and trust me it is a value for money. It is too early to comment but comfort and suspension are just rocking. Have drove about 500km till now-> Mileage 11kmpl which is expected to increase by atleast 2 kmpl after the 1st service. "Dude dnt forget that you are driving a 1200cc car". The ac is very good, cools the car within few mins. The interiors are also good in its category.

The ratings:

brakes-good

power steering-good

space-very very good

looks-upto you

stability-fantastic(compared to other cars in its category)

i will keep updating the review as the car rolls more.

I purchased Indica Xeta Glg 1.4 in Sep 2006, till now I have completed 10, 000 KMs

*+ Points :

1)** Engine is Silent .

2) Spacy Interior (Though it could have been made better).

3) Lowest Price in its segment.

4) Good Pick up .

5) Ground Clearance suits Indian Road.

6) Few additional points like RPM meter , Headlight focus adjustment button are there which is not

seen in other car of same segment.

7) Maintenance is less if you drive single handedly.

8) Brakes are very instant .

- Points :

1) Low Mileage (17 on highway but 10 or may be less than 10 in city )

2) Service center are pocketing money whenever I take my car for regular service(atleast in Thane )

3) Car Body is not strong (like maruti cars) , in case of accident safety is very less.

4) It lacks Theft safety .

I hope , I have covered most of the point any relevant point if at is missing let me know and feel free to ask for doubts. Overall inspite of negative points I would like to say this car is value for money.

Xeta --> if not you got to be dumb
Sep 21, 2008 11:35 PM 5807 Views

This is the best small car in the market for a average home usage. It gives all the facilities like other cars in the small car segment and yet bigger than those cars.

The price is at least 50K lesser than other competitive cars. Has more leg room and space for 5 average people to sit.

Comes in 1400 or 1200 CC which is much higher than the other cars in the same segment. With this power you can definitely go to any kind of a long drive and need not be worried about the car temp or durability. AC in the car is too good when there is not much pressure put on the car.

You can happily maneuver the car in all kinds of city traffic. The best companion for a small and sweet family. 100% reliable and most dependable car. This is the MOST ECONOMICAL YET POWERFUL CAR TO BUY.

Yes my friends, This is follow up my intial review, I have received my Tata Petrol Xeta, It is good, since one and half year. No problems since.

This is my before bye experience(yet to be bought). On my son’s birth day(10-09-2008) I thought of to take Xeta GLS, paid advance one week before. After that I was informed as the vehicle would be available on 12 th. So I went to Show room to pay the amount on my Son’s Birth day, shocked by the next date 18-08-2008. I ddi’nt pay money and got back. After that I was again known the date as 20-10-2008.

Here I would like to state that-As An Indian Company we like Tata. Unlike other Companies Tata providing reasonable prized vehicles to Indians. But why cant they improve their Servicing as The Customer’s satisfaction would ultimately cost for any Business.I request Tata to improve the Show Room Standards which can favour more Indians utelise Tata's Advantage.

Tata Indica Xeta GLS BSIII Rocks!!!
Sep 11, 2008 02:23 AM 7957 Views

Got delivery of my brand new Tata Indica Xeta GLS on 2nd Aug’08 and it is cavern grey in color & after the car was got from the stock yard and was getting cleaned, I observed that the paint from the rear door had chipped off, upon same dealer Prerna motors agreed to replace the entire door with the same model / color car and which they did the next day to my satisfaction. And now I was happy to plan my pleasure trip from Bangalore to waynad in Kerala & clocked my first 1000 kms.

I selected the GLs version since I did wanted power windows & rear demister. I did not select GLG since it was costing me around 30K more than GLs. as I did not have good feedback on power windows provided by Tata and moreover rear wiper/demister is of no good without a water spray option at the rear.

Before freezing on Xeta, I did consider cars like Swift, Wagon R, palio & Indigo CS, In case of swift there was a waiting period of 6 months, wagon R was costing 70K more with much lesser features, moreover its a 4 seater and a much lighter car, persobally prefer sturdy ones.yes palio was impressive but was coming at 5.20 lac which is 2 lacs more, which was not value for money. sme with the care of Indigo Cs Dicor and my family need does not demand a sedan as of now. did not want to pay up 2.5 lacs more for 100LTR of extra boot and diesel is not viable as my usage is 1000 KM PM.certainly in comparison with maruti, I would not want to pay a premium for the "brand" instead pay for the product.

In my first 1000kms, which was mainly on highway and ghat roads, Blore to Waynad and back with AC 50% of of times. The engine was surprisingly smooth with almost no noise & best part it was extremely torquey, did not had to do frequent gear shifts even in ghat roads and car would pull off with ease in the third gear with AC ON! Trust me The AC is powerful and cools the cabin in no time.

Since I got my car registered on 2nd AUG I had to cough up 6K more as the road tax had gone up by 2.2% hence car costed me me around Rs. 3.20L on road Bangalore. with discount of whopping 38K(30K as cash disc and 8K as corporate disc) Moreover as part of the deal dealer provided me with Central locking, sun-control film, one layer of polish and door mats etc. I got a new pioneer music system with JBL  speakers System just ROCKS! The music system cost me 11K including labour from a local dealer / Friend's ref. Excellent work done by Sachin Auto Shop, Koramangala bangalore.

In the first 1000K I ensured to follow the running in instructions judiciously always ensured that the peak RPM in any gear is kept under 2200 RPM.

Below tips are extremely helpul in ensuring good fuel efficiency and increasing engine life:-

  1. Do not rave the engine unnecessary.

  2. On highways, drive at around 60 - 80 kmpl @ 1800-2200 rpm.

  3. Try to follow the gear change instructions mentioned on the windshielf - it will become a habit soon. It does help for better FE.

  4. Drive your car in such a way that you have to apply lesser brake. The more you brake, the more you are lossing unnecessary power applied earlier.

  5. On steap slopes, put the AC off as it reduces the load on the engine. Switch off the AC at red signal, and put it back on once in 3rd gear.

  6. While driving downslope(eg. downslope of a flyover), get to the middle lane and reduce the accelerator. A car or 2 may overtake you, but this will help improve the FE of your car.

  7. In bumper-to-bumper traffic, avoid sudden pickup and braking. Use as little accelaration as you can since MPFI engines are designed to run even when the accelerator is not pressed. Just de-clutch your vehicle slowly and the car will move a few meters easily.

  8. Check all the oil levels atleast once a month. It takes you only 30mins to do so.

  9. Service your vehicle every 6 months or 5000 kms, whichever is earlier.

This review would be incomplete without making a menton of Mileage I got during my first 1000KM, First 200KM car was mainly driven in Bangalore city traffic with 100% AC and car delivered 13.5KMPL and on the Highway+ Ghats with 50% AC I got an amazing mileage of 18.5KMPL! what more could I ask from a 1.2 petrol car which weighs 1000 KGS and the driving experience on the highways is great, one fees really safe. thanks to the build.

All in all, I wouldn’t hesitate a bit to say that it is one of the best cars in hatchback category. I would certainly recommend Indica Xeta to anyone who is planning to buy a hatchback with a budget of 3.2 Lac on road.

Bangalore India
Buying experience and initial impressions
Aug 31, 2008 10:57 PM 4456 Views

My first car was a Mitsubishi Mirage bought long time back for $1500 as a grad student (and sold for the same amount to a grad student ).

Since the time I came back to India, I have been driving a Maruti - 800 initially and then the refined Maruti Alto (courtesy the generous place I work) for the past 4 years.

We decided to buy a car other than the Alto and shortlisted on the Hyundai Santro Xing, Zen Estillo and the Indica Xeta. I drive less than 500KM per month and the occasional long drives of around 1000 KM every 3 months. The choice was made to go with Petrol than Diesel.

I checked out the Estillo first - The looks were good and I have high regards for Maruti products having driven them for almost 8 years. We called two dealers, one of them came the same day, and the next called up last month, almost 4 months after I bought the car! How poor an impression that leaves!

Driving wise, Zen estillo was good - It was comfortable for my wife to drive as well. The car was smooth but the interiors were a big turn off. Somehow the finish and the overall internal layout and design didnt appeal to us -we felt that the Alto was more comfortable inside compared to the estillo. We checked out the WagonR as well, and felt the same compared to an Alto.

The Xing was a quick decision - two calls to different dealers were met with lackadaisical responses - one guy remarked that the estillo was a failed model in Japan and suggested not to buy it, and recommended the Xing - bad salesmen are a turn off too. Indica was our next choice. Some people recommended us against going with a Tata product. I had heard about stories but decided to give an Indian brand a shot.

The initial test drive created a good impression - the engine was so silent that I started the car again when it was running. Space was a huge leap from the Alto, and the overall quality of the ride felt good. Add to this beige interiors, a stylish dashboard, power front windows, good space in the rear seats, decent boot space, and a total price of 3.5L - we decided on the Xeta GLG.

The Concorde sales guys at Bangalore showed poor ethics - made us wait for about 1.5 hours and then said that they are anticipating a price change in the next few days and hence cannot sell. I bought the car in the next 3 hours at Prerana motors. The Prerana guys gave a fair deal on the car, but messed it up in delivery. Again, another example of how an image of a Tata product is being tarnished by poorly organized distribution channels.

The sales guy promised delivery in 5 days and when I called on the 6th day, he said the wrong car was shipped, and the next week it was the wrong color, and some stupid excuse every time. I spoke to the sales manager, and he put it back to me saying that I should try with Tata Motors directly. I was thoroughly disappointed. Finally when the car came, I was asked to pick it up one fine day.

After waiting for 2 hours, I was told that the car has gone back to the shed due to some minor damage - a basic courtesy of calling and informing me ahead of time would have saved me 3.5 hours of time that day. During the sale, the sales guy had promised to give a free case for the steering wheel - the delivery guy didnt provide that and when I asked, he said there is no way a case can  be fit into the steering wheel - sheer lie, just to get home quickly.

It was fitted the next day since I managed to get all the sales offer in writing. I am worried for the Tatas. Though they manage to bring out good products, the inefficiencies in the distribution and service network might eventually eat up their brand. When the car came finally, I managed to forget the bad experiences with the dealer, In the past 4 months, my car has done about 3600 KMs. The long drives were a pleasure. The steering wheel tight compared to the Alto,

It does stress my wrist a bit.. Mileage has been decent. 10kmph in Bangalore hellways. In the first trip on the highways, I managed to getabout 17.5Kmph since I was driving around at 80Kmph during the running in period, but it has dropped to about 15 in the subsequent trips at higher speeds (100-120Kmph). It does get noisy at high speeds, but I guess thats common in most Indian cars. The gear shift isnt as smooth as the Alto, but this is something that you get used to.

I should say I am very pleased with my decision. There are nagging issues, there is a squeaking noise - dont know if its the back seats that are not sitting properly or if its coming from the suspension, but the Prerana service guys were not able to find it out. When I make sharp turns, there is a noise from the front suspension for which I have yet to take it to the service center. The fitting of the audio system was also done poorly by Prerana, but this is not an issue with the car. The car does wobble a bit.

Despite these issues, I would recommend the Indica Xeta to others - just understand your own expectations and then look at this car. My initial impressions are that this is a value for money package. Only time will tell how reliable the product is in the long run.
