Good value for money
Jul 24, 2007 06:44 PM 3964 Views

A good city car, the although broader than most amall cars, it fits well in the tight parking spots in Delhi. The power steering is not as good as other cars but does the job well & zipping though rush hour traffic is not so difficult.

The car is very stable & drives well on highways too, You do not feel unsafe unless you go past 110 kmph... It grips the road well & handles the potholes & bad muddy patches with ease. I did some mountain driving also & was disappointed with the lack of pick-up & knocking while going uphill.

The side beams on the front windshield block the view a little & it gets irritating at times, but overall, the visibility is good

The fuel consumption is bearable, for a 1200 cc car, it gives an average of 13-15 in city (with ac) & 16-17 on highway (with ac).

The air conditioning is good & powerful, the workwanship os not great & hence the AC adjustment knobs keep slipping, the the cooling & air flow is superb even in extreme summers of Delhi.

Internal space is damn good, lots of leg & head room for 5 average adults to sit comfortably, I would have liked the front seats to have a longer base but overall, its a feeling of a big car inside a small car.

The headlights & fod light (a part of standard equipment in Indica GLG) are nice & do the job well.

The rear tray (where we usually fit the speakers) rattles a lot, they must try to do better & may be use a wooden plank instead of moulded plastic.

Now, about the service bit, I dont think the mechanics know mush about the XETA, they sort of struggles & tried the hit & trial method to fix a problem in my car. The service centers are badly managed (especially Sanghi Motors, Cannaught place) & look worse than the road side garage.

Overall, a good value for money, I mean what can one expect in 3.5 lakhs...

Vehicle is working fine and is ideal for Indian road, the check engine issue is resolved , some technical bug related tot he chip ....no major issue. This should be taken into consideration. It is not up to the mark and it creates a lot of problem.

In short i is inadvisable to buy such a product.

Tata Dealer - different experience
Jul 21, 2007 03:22 PM 3840 Views

I  read most of the reviews on Indica Xeta posted on this site and decided to go for Xeta GLG.

I had read all bad remarks about Tata dealers not providing good service. However, My experience was totally different and therefore I am writing this.  Most of the people have written about the features and I would not like to write about the same. However, I wish to write about the dealer.  This may be an exceptional experience:)

When I decided to buy the vehicle , I found out the telephone nos of the dealer and called them up. The Sales Girl was friendly and advised about the features and price.  Then she offered me to come and test drive the vehicle. I was busy on that day so I said I can come on Sunday. Since on Sudnay the showroom is closed, she offered to come to my office with the vehicle. My office is at least 25 kms away from the showroom and there she was at my office at the given time. Of course, I took the test drive of the vehicle and I would have driven not less than 30 kms on the high way.

After that when I decided to buy the vehicle , the colour which I opted for was not available in inventory and it was ordered.  Within 3 days the fresh piece was received from the factory and I was given the delivery.

All the staff members were very co-operative.  The documentation took not more than 15 minutes to complete.   I was able to negotiate free rear power windows which were installed at the time of taking the delivery.  No hassles anywhere.

Reading about the poor service of the Tata dealers,  I believe I got a good service from this dealer.  Not only this,  after one month of purchase,  when the first service was due,  I called them and they sent a man to pick up the vehicle and by the evening I got an sms that the vehicle is ready after service and you may arrange to pick up the same.  Obviously, the vehicle was delivered back to my home by the service station guy only.

Over all good vehichle good dealer and good service.

I am a regular reader of blog and after test drives and reading reviews on mouthshut I bought XETA GLG

I thought of sharing my experience too

What I Like in this car is space, so many features like defogger, internally adjustable OVRMS, Central locking, fog lamps. Lamps in boot and under hood. speaker connections already installed. AC is too good, I manage the blower speed at 2 or sometimes 1. I can say it is better than IKON( my previous car). While driving it gives a feeling like driving a three box car. Seats are comfortable, you will not feel the stiffness even when u r going long drives. If compared with other vehicals of this class, it is far better

What I dont like is Mileage which is only 9-10 with AC. When 5 people are seating and you feel like you are dragging the vehicle forcibly. frequent gear changes unlike Wagon R and santro where you can drive at 30 km/ph in 4th gear. There is smell of petrol in cabin at times, I have gone to Tata workshop thrice in two months but still not rectified.

Overall car is good provided dealers should provide correct information, whatever the problem is they will tell you, "XETA main yeh problem hai and we are working on it"

My car is 2 months old and I have covered 3000 kms. one suggestion to TATA if pick up and acceleration is improved this car will rock!

An Average Vehicle
Jul 04, 2007 04:47 PM 5711 Views

I bought this vehicle in Aug 2006. This is my first vehicle and I feel that its worth the price. There are some positives and some negatives for this vehicle that I will mention here.

*Positives

-   **In Rs 3.4 Lacs you get a vehicle that has powersteering, AC and body color bumper.

-   Seating space inside is awesome.

-   Good ground clearance.

-   Interiors are good.

*Negatives

*-   A/C is not very effective.

-   There seems to be a problem with the intelligence of the vehicle (its a 64 bit engine). Sometime even with AC the pickup will be excellent (i am talking about when you have stopped on a red light etc) and sometimes pickup with AC on is pathetic.

-   Plastic used inside the vehicle is really bad (can't expect anything better at this price)

-   Because of its body design there is enough space for rats to enter inside the vehicle (mind you, I am not saying engine...i am saying inside the vehicle (cabin). I got the rat entry closed for Rs 1200 from Concorde.

-   Boot space is very less (lesser than an Alto)

-   I didn't like the paint quality on the body (but I won't say its bad)

Front Tyres of Indica
Jul 04, 2007 09:11 AM 4610 Views

Hi Xeta Owners, I have a query. My Xeta GLS which I bought in May 2007 seems to have a problem with the front tyres.I see the front tyres, both the right and left, loosing the pressure.looking at the tyres one can easily say there is no air in it, literally the tyre can be pressed with thumb. But when I take it to the air filling station, the pressure shown is 30, when I fill the air I maintain 30.

But after a day, I can see the tyre going down but the pressure remains around 30, say 28 or 29 or 30.The dealer says these are radials hence you feel like there is no pressure in it.But my rear tyres have no issue. Can one put light on this issue. Is the dealer fooling me or am I taking it very seriouly? Thanks, Naveem.

The Blue Devil (after 2 years)
Jun 26, 2007 05:18 PM 5053 Views

Hi Guys

This is my second review of the car and this one after two years.

I still maintain most of the good things about my car and there were no major problems with the car till date and its performance is great. The milage ha increased to abt 13-14 from 11-12 for city riding. The power and pick up are quite good still but one thing I still love about this car is its the space inside. You do not feel like siting in any other car. There have been no major repairs and surprisingly the service has been quite good and I was astonished to receive calls from the service center asking for the health of my car. I hope they delaers have started to learn few thinngs.

Now coming to the bad things which I find in the car in the couple of years is the engine is quite noisy and you can feel the roar of the engine all the time even when ur windows are all closed. The other thing which I found bad was on little bumpy roads the vibrations from the raod is too much some times and you feel that you are right on the road. The smoothness factor is very poor. and the last thing is that the car being so heavy it eats up ur tyres very fast and the alignment is very frequently out.

But to end it on a good note I still feel its the safest and the best car for long drives in its class. It a beauty to drive on highways, very very stable at high speeds.

Still I feel its the best car in its class but I rate is down in terms of the riding comfort which I felt in the two years as compared to alto, wagonr and santro.

The last review two years ago.

I bought the Indica Xeta GLG Amazon Blue in Feb 07 and since it was my first car you can imagine the amount of R&D which went into to decide on the brand of the car. In a nut shell all I can say is that at this price and with these features its the best available car in the market and "YOU GOTTA BE DUMB" if you are thinking about any other car.

The space, power, comfort and pickup are really great which makes this car stand alone form the rest of the cars in this segment. Long drives in Xeta is a fairy tale stuff with the powerful A/C and really good suspension system . The easy maneuvering and great stability at high speeds makes the perfect recipe for you to make a dream long drive.

But it brings tears to my eyes when I speak about the Dealers and after sales service. The customer satisfaction is negative leave alone the customer delight. These people will treat you like cab drivers and they think that once the car is sold the chapter is closed. They are so poor in their service that they dont even ask the customer a glass of water . I just wonder why these people have not learned from Maruti & Hyundai that customer satisfaction in todays cut throat competitive market is the best tool to boost up your car sales and zoom ahead of your competitors.

Also I would like to add that the interior fabric and the dash board colour and texture is one thing which they should improve upon.

If you ask me to compare it with the other cars it would be like this: Alto is way behind in space, power and pickup but better in mileage, Wagon R is inferior in looks, space and power and costlier by 40K, Zen Estelo is inferior in space and power but stylish and costlier by 40k.

All I can say is that I am really satisfied with the car and its performance till date and really happy with the decision to go for it.

Think Twice before u invest in an Indica Xeta
Jun 17, 2007 11:15 AM 5200 Views

Good exterior car design, good on bumpy roads as the road clearance is quite good. Drive feels comfortable and the petrol engine is quite silent.  But the plastic used in the car looks and feels cheap. Fault in firewall of the car( the area behind the dashboard) has made the car rat prone. Fuel economy not good even for long drives. Infact the car is a fuel guzzler. Support from Manipal motors also seems poor. Also they are known for part swapping while the car is given for service, so pls watch out.

My sincere advice. go in for Hyundai GETZ or Honda.or anything else  but not an Indica. Maybe my next buy is a swift.

BTW anyone looking to buy an Indica still. email me at caidur@yahoo.com

FINALLY I AM REPENTING MY DECISION FOR BUYING THIS CAR. Hello there. nothing more for me to say about this car. Please decide for yourselves now.

The problem describled appears more to be a dealer problem than the vehicle problemThe additions u were trying to make come readily in the GLG version. It seems that while making these these changes , E.G while fitting fog lamps the dealer messed up the circuit & your indicator stopped functioning. Its because of poor techicians with the dealer.... same thing would have happenned while fitting Power windows.

All these things come factory fitted in GLG version & you would not have had any problemsOther wise the car is good. The ride quality is better than Wagon R / Santro (Bumpy rides)TATA dealers are a big problem. Test drive is difficult to get. They do not keep even a demo car....which Maruti or Hyundai readily has. They even come to your home for test drive. Where as the TATA dealers are very much indifferent. Hence losing to its competetors inspite of having a good product

Lot of Problems from the time of delivery!!!!!!
Jun 07, 2007 09:29 PM 4961 Views

hi I purchased my Indica Xeta GLS Arctic Silver on April 2006. I had asked the dealer 2 fit Front power windws, remote central locking , LHS ORVM , FOg lamps. soo after reciving the delivery of my vehicle just a little further I went ahead for my horror the indicator not working, then nxt day I visit the dealer again and they tell tht due 2 remote locking fitting this has ocured and made it correct  after a long long wait. later the servicing was also not soo good . this year febraury 2 my shock I opened the door and am trying 2 close itt and its not closing 2 my horror the hinge of the door cutt( not 2 be expected in new car) .

Then I took it 2 the dealer where they promptly replaced under waranty after 3 days.and after thiss I cudnot take itt any longer and was planning 2 sell the vehicle when an accident ocured boc zthe car skid and lost control completly and hit 2 a milestone and a small wall.but we all were safe bcoz of tata's strentghy body.milage is decent of abt 10-11 in city and 15-16 in highway, means pple whose running is less than 1k kms is good. but my running is around 1400kms.

But mind u all  just dont buy this car like mee for the price, space.coz its not build 2 lastand suffers in reliability even many pple adivsed me not 2 goo for a TATA but wanted 2 see my luck but fialed 2 doo soo. For new car buyers there is a simple mathmetics on how much u spend 4 ur vehcile. Just see hw much u run ur vehicle and hw much year u r keeping itt wid u and the cost price of the vehicle.

Sooo exxample  u buy Xeta GLS for 3.3 on road.and run abt 1000kms a motnh and keep the vehcle for 4 yrs and average milage of the vehicle is 12-13.soo 4 yrs means 48k kms.soo 48k kms divided by 12(milage)  multiplied by fuel cost rs 50(Karnataka) means 2 lakh u pay for running 48k kms add 3.30 for 2 lakhs means 5.50 and subtarct from the aproximate value after 4 yrs means around 1.5 lakhs means 5.50 minus 1.50 means 4 lakhs is the total mony spent on ur Xeta similairly u can calculate WagonR DUO , Indica Turbo , WagonR petrol, Santro XIng and car of ur choice. hope u all find this method easy.

Xeta, Beauty with the Beast.
Jun 01, 2007 03:50 AM 5703 Views

Hi all,

This is my secon review of  Tata Indica Xeta(GLX). My car will be completing 1 yr in May.

I am adding few new point which I have noticed for last 10 mths. I hve notched about 7000KM till date.

I have done two long trips to Ratnagiri and Tarkarli(both trips about 1300KM each) 1st one was in Aug.(rainy season) and 2nd in Dec. The Drive was smooth, steady. Pick was good(considering the ghats on mumbai-goa highway), felt low pickup on some times while overtaking.(But car was loaded with 5 people with lots of luggage) So that is understandable.

About the

Fuel Consumption, I am getting around 14 with AC and around 16 with out.(Speed around 90-120) I am getting around 10-11 with A/C in city traffic. We all now the mumbai traffic these days. I got the better result(Fuel economy and Pick up) in my 2nd trip where I used BP petrol as compared to HP for my 1st trip.  3 people in back seat can easily accommodate. you can accommodate 4 as well.(Size matters) Avg per

Problems I faced:

I had few problems in the car. 1) I had a frequent problem with one of da power window(had to take the care around 4 times to Om Sai Motors) Finally its fixed. 2) While one of the free checkups - found out some problem with AC compressor. - That was rectified with replacing a new 1 under warranty.

Overall experience is very good till now. I will post another review after the 2nd servicing.

I Wish all the XETA Owners a Happy and Safe ride.:-)

My First Car XETA GLS, Value for money.
May 30, 2007 11:00 AM 6625 Views

Since long this is pending, I bought this machine on August 26, 2006. I have selected the GLS model with salsa red color. The color is fantastic.

Brief Background:This is my first car, not so knowledgeable about cars;-) but yes I did a lot of survey on the Internet. And thanks to Mouth Shut which made me decide to buy this car.

Thanks to Mr. Kedar Apte who had written a wonderful review about the machine and had provided me personal guidance too.

Overall My Preferences in buying the Car

1) Budget: This was on the priority list for me as, I was not ready to spend more than 3.5 L(Considering everything in the car which is necessary viz mats, seat covers music system central Locking system, sunshade screen for glass etc etc.)

I bought this on Road at 3.10 L and around 25 to 30 K on accessories.

  • Bad thing not a single accessory provided by the dealer(Pundit Automotive). No lucrative offers were there at that time too.

3) Safety: I personally feel this vehicle more safe and sturdy, as my intention behind buying was to go on Long drives, The car is very very sturdy on Highways doesn't move/ shake when a truck goes besides the car. I have heard; cars like alto or Zen do shake.;-)

3) Space ample, I am not too tall, even then I need ample space. This is like luxury to me when space is concerned.

4) Mileage: Initially I was a little skeptical about the mileage they claim is 14KM at ideal conditions. So when compared to Alto and Wagnor or Santro this is less by a 3 to 4 km, but then when I asked Mr. Kedar Apte about this he had wonderful answer, he says, "Look at the car as a comfort asset. If you wanted to save money in petrol, would you be buying a car anyways?" and that’s really true. My priority was fulfilled at my budget, what else do I want more. I am not buying a Bike or Scotrate; I am buying a Car isn’t it;-) So this concern was released.

5) Looks: The Car has a unique shape though they have not changed a bit here and there through ages, but still I love the bean shape, I still remember when I was in my college I was wanting at signal and saw a brand new V2 Petrol version of Indica standing nearby me and That day itself I was in love with this machine. Even now the interiors are improved as compared to the previous versions.

  • Bad thing the Plastic quality is worst. On the third day when I was opening the front storage Area(I really don’t know what it is called) but the handle came in my hands. It actually broke. That’s a bad make indeed.

Interaction with dealer:Now this is the key area where TATA Dealers needs to really improve upon. The finance department at Pundit Automotive(Pune) really put me in trouble. The finance dept. there denied to pass the loan on some silly reasons, which they couldn’t even justify it.

The delivery of the vehicle was pretty much on time, but since there were problems in finance had to opt another finance outside. Which caused an inconvenience and delay in the delivery.

I bought my vehicle in Pune and most of the time it was in Hyderabad. I have traveled twice back and forth from Hyderabad to Pune in my vehicle. The ride was simply fantastic.

My car’s 1st servicing was done in Hyderabad in Autofin; they have a very decent service. I had very good experience about their service and efficiency. The only bad thing was they don’t have door pick up and drop up for the servicing. One has to take the car to the service center.

What did I did not like about the car:

1) The Accelerator pedal is at height, and it really pains, when one is driving it for long time.

I would really recommend people to buy this car because:

1) Good Value for money

2) Spacious

3) Power

4) Good Air Conditioner

5) New interiors

6) Comfortable and safe ride. Etc.

Above all it’s a good Indian car.

And Lastly, I recently checked the Mileage of the car and I was quite Happy to inform you all readers that it gave me, in the range of 15 to 16 on the highway driving with AC 60% time ON.

So not a bad deal at all. I Wish all the XETA Owners a Happy and Safe ride.:-)

Xeta Vs Alto, Wagon R, Santro
May 23, 2007 01:26 PM 11282 Views

When I planned of buying a car a year back, I searched for a good comparison of cars in my budget, but hardly found some impartial reviews and comparison. Now I am a proud owner of Indica Xeta GLS, for more than a year. So I hope a comparison of these cars will be nice.

To start it all with let me first define the class of car. I would like to say that when the price of the machine is considered, Xeta will fit in the class of a small car like an Alto. If we consider the engine and performance it will ony fit in the class of Wagon R and Santro, or even upto Swift.

First I would like to say is that, theres no need of a comparison between Alto and Xeta, because Alto comes nowhere near to Xeta in its performance, or riding comfort or space provided. So Alto in my view Alto is only advisable if we want very high mileage that is aroun17-18 average, but making heavy trade off on pick up and space. Comparing to Wagon R or santro I would like to say that, Xeta is almost delivering more than these cars. The things more you will get is independent suspension, an interior antenna and a better a/c than both Wagon R and Santro. Those who like to go beyond a 100 kmph, Wagon R becomes a bit difficult to control on curves, whiole both Santro and Xeta can be easily controlled even at above 100 km/hr.

Regarding the dealer, am not happy with the Tata dealers, since they just treat you like a taxi driver. Power steering is more smooth in a wagon r or santro, since it is an electronic power steering. Am really looking to upgrade to electronic power steering in the course of time. Going for the full option with all power windows is not that advisable, since a high quality power window system can be fitted from outside with a price tag of around 7, 000 rupees.

Another advisable upgrade will be alloy wheels which will cost you around 15-20K. Regarding the ECU, Xeta has a better thing since it is using 32-bit processor, you will get better tolerance and response than santro and wagon r. In a nutshell comparing to wagon R and santro you will get the following things more with almost 50k less.

1)      Better pick up

2)      Nice a/c

3)      32-bit Microprocessor controlled ECU

4)      Integrated antenna (Only available in SX4 from Maruti, other than Xeta)

5)      Better control

The only thing that you lacks is an electronic power steering, which can be easily upgradeable. To end up with, my final verdict is like Xeta is a sure bet for those who want luxury and performance in low budget.

Unbiased review on my one and a half year old xeta
May 18, 2007 11:21 PM 5600 Views

This is my second review on my xeta. First one I wrote 1 and a half year before when my car was brand new. Now it is tested and tested in extreme conditions. I have taken my car from chennai to trivandrum and back, to coimbatore and back... etc), when it has ran around 800 kms continously, that too through very bad conditioned roads (road work was going on all along the stretch from chennai to nagarcoil that time). I got a stearing wobbling after that drive, which was rectified by the service centre during my second free service. They told that the problem was with the wheel alighment and they corrected it. This is the only problem I have faced in my car till now. Luckly I have never faced a starting trouble till date though I use to read in MS that many are facing such problems.

This is one of the best cars in this catagory for long drives. The safety feeling, comfort and space (both for luggage and persons) we enjoy in this car, I bet no other car in this catagory can offer. AC is really powerfull as it cools the car very fast even at peak summers. But this is done at the cost of the pick up of the car which becomes very low with AC on. This makes city driving difficult at times in midst of heavy traffic.Gear shift is another plus point of the car. It is really smooth compared to wagon R and alto.(I have not driven any other car).Thats all as far as positives are concerned (probably some more may be there.. nothing is coming to my mind right now :)).

\Talking about negatives.. No.1 is mileage.. No.2 mileage and No. 3 is...... yes... u guessed it right.. mileage once again.. I am getting 11 to 12 (only) in city and 14.9 in long drive.. this is with 80% approx. AC on. I dont know WagonR or santro’s mileage (definitely more than this only.. but how much??? I dont know).. but alto gives around 18 to 20 in long drives people say. I think the it is the heaviness of Xeta which is making our pocket lighter.

Response of Power steering is average. It is no were near those of  suzuki cars.. (Do the car weight has to do anything on this?). As I already mentioned pick up with AC on is low and we will feel that during initial acceleration, over takings and city drives sometimes.. Otherwise its ok..

To sum up so far so good with my xeta. It has never made me stand helpless in the middle of the road , except in one or two occasions when I had tyre punctures. Free servicing done were satisfactory (moderately)  till now. No major complaints except the milage and the steering wobbling issue. For the money we pay... I think we cannot ask for more. Anyway this is my view: Xeta may not be the best car in the segment, but it is the best value for money car in any segment.

Xeta after 1st service
May 15, 2007 04:16 PM 4777 Views

My xeta is 6 months old bought it on nov 1 2006, (xeta GLG)my xeta is to give me around 16-17 km/l on highways w/AC, and it was very smooth without more noise in engine while dragging in lower gears, I had my first service done 15 days back, and I was charged 2.5k for first serviceafter that,

  1. my mileage has gone down, I hardly get 12-13 km/l w/AC on highways.and I hear more noisy like diesel engine from outside may be near the silencer, when dragged in low gear , but in fifth gear it is smooth

  2. the pickup has also gone down

  3. my fuel guage behaviour: I got yellow light indicator when it reached red mark in the fuel meter, but that goes off after some times again it comes and goes off, but after some more travel that light wont go offrecently I travelled 70 kms after getting the yellow light indicator.

After that I put petrol for 200 rs light went off, but again it came, it went off...Os it the correct behaviour the indicator, or is it faulty, how much fuel will be left when the light indicator glows initially..please clarifythanks and regardsSrinath

Crossed 48000 Kilometers and 3 years with my XETA

Crossed 48000 Kilometers and 3 years with my XETA !!!

Hi, This is an update on my earlier reviews,

Now it is more than 3 years since I owned my Indica Xeta, GLG (the 1400cc (1396) version.

Facts:

  1. Now I have covered more than 48000 Kilometers.

  2. Travelled almost all kinds of terrain in South India (Highways, Village Roads and importantly Ghat Areas of Karnataka, TamilNadu and Kerala - Used many many times to travel from Bangalore to Kerala through the Ghat Areas of Karnataka and Kerala).

  3. Except normal issues at few occassions, which every vehicle will have, didn't face any major issues. (One time a tata sumo hit us from behind on a highway while we were parked on the road side - fortunately, only the Dicky door was damaged slightly - which was repaired by Tata motors - under insurance).

  4. On high ways like Bangalore-Mysore etc I am getting 19 - 20 kms mileage.

  5. NEVER had any incident which this car tested my patience on any of mine and my family members travels.

Note: May be because, I still do proper servicing at every 5000 kms (even after the first 4 free services)

I feel, there is nothing I need to tell more, except my own experience.

I value this car most as it has allways been dependable.

Cheers !!!'

Earlier - Review --

*This November I crossed 19000 Kilometers with my XETA. I am proud of my car and my decision to buy this car.

After this experience I found that the following things count for every car.

  1. The state of a vehicle depends upon our driving and and caring. (My car was driven either by myself (though I am not an expert driver - I used to drive very carefully) or professional drivers).

  2. Like every machinery, carefull use will pay back to us - a good craftman will NEVER QUARELL WITH and blames his tools.

Recently we did a long travel from Calicut - Bangalore - Yercaud -Salem - Kothagiri - Ootty - back to Bangalore trip (driven by aprofessional driver) - it was very nice experience.

I must say that I didn't face any major problems with my car until now. The only minor issue with the filter was corrected by Prerana motors (I had to pay Rs 160 for the Parts changed during my last service - apart from the usual oil cost etc)

Yeah another thing happened this month, when we parked my car at road side, another vehicle come and hit behind and the rear bumper was damaged - which was corrected.

Another thing I found that many people forget about the price - features ratio of XETA with other cars. I don't think there is any other car with the same price (or even nearer price) offering similar features. For example, I know that Honda City is an Excellant Car - but we don't get it for 3.5 lacks. Even SWIFT itself costs 5+ lacks - I found (apart from some fancy features in SWIFT) that XETA offers most of the features of SWIFT.

So, I feel, those who wants and can afford a Honda City or Benz or whatever can buy that. But it is unfair to compare XETA with those cars.

From my experience, myself and my family are fully satisfied with and love our car.

XETA 1.2 - MUST Car (CNG now available)

*Summary

Review updated on: 28 May 2007 / **Purchased in: March 2007 from M/s Autolinks, New Delhi / Kms clocked: more than 6, 500

Comparisons

*In past, I've always been Maruti loyal & freek out on their products and have owned Maruti 800(twice) / Alto 1.1 & currently own Swift Vxi - ABS(my liking for Maruti is still not over) but XETA is in different class and by all stretch of imagination,

this one wins THUMBS UP… cause of

1) Great pricing

2) Superb space

3) Good ride quality

4) Decent overall package

Initial Cost of Ownership:

Excellent - which other company shall give you Car @

3.23 Lacs on road in Delhi(including extended warranty, Road Tax, Insurance,

Parking Charges and all other expenses with mud cover and floor mats for free)–

given discount of Rs. 23, 000/-with Power Steering, Front Power Windows, Central

Lock, Rear defogger, bumper painted body etc. Whole lot of goodies at great price.

Purchase Experience / Post Purchase Support

Very Bad - TATA Dealers have earned an enviable reputation of not being

friendly with their customers & they work overtime to retain the

reputation. I’ve had my share of woes, whereby I was EDUCATED that CNG fitment

is approved by TATA Motors and my warranty shall remain valid along with the

warranty of Vehicle. I learnt, after my purchases that CNG for 1.2 L XETA has

not even been approved by Delhi Transport Authority leave alone the TATA Motors

warranty.

Post Purchase Support

This has been good till date after writting a few e-mail to TATA Motors, dealer has woken up and they have reponded really well on a few issues that I've faced with till date. I'd like to mention that post sales team / customer satisfaction team headed by lady called Nisha @ Autolinks have been an important factor, who have chased problems with my Vehicle and have responded well till date on all queries / issues that I've had with my Car till date. Boy. they have courtsey and heart to listen to all issues & follow-up effectively on the matters that concern me most as an owner.

Important UPDATE* **- I've made a few noises through e-mail and have TATA's have ensured that the local dealer wakes up. and boy they have. returned back all my queries and have been good since last couple of weeks.CNG Fitment is now apporved by TATA and Delhi Transport Authorities and should start by on 2nd June 2007(as per last update). But please do not rush for it, let the whole thing settle down and my opinion is should wait for 2-3 months before right feedback comes along. also remeber CNG kit installation through TATA is costly affair(all put in shall cost something to the tune of 47k). so let the final report come on how this CNG kit after all that engineering by TATA people behave

*Interiors &

Comfort*

Great – simply superb, lots of space and beige colour

interiors gives you feel of a BIG car, which is unmatched in this segment. Dashboard

looks refreshing and boasts of better finish that ever before. Seating is

perfect especially for long drives; you’ll never get tired feeling of driving

this Car on long routes. Not to mention the freebies like Central Locking,

Power Steering, Front power windows, rear defogger, Air Conditioner+ Heater,

body coloured bumpers etc. that comes along with this Version of Car.

AC of the Car is top of the line and have to switch it off

often even in this real HOT month of May.

However, there is a let down on the storage space aspect in

the Vehicle, only on this account, the Car looks unpractical.

*Ride &

Performance*

Indica Xeta

is the answer to Delhi governments answer to mismanagement on roads

including bad flexible roads,  potholes.

She works like magic even in the traffic ridden Delhi with ease and have

answers to all the problems that you might have driving on such roads. The ride

is great with a few exceptions that Car drags a bit on lower speeds and often

threatens to give you a rough feel, though it becomes more than perfect when

driven on 30+ speeds.

Mileage with AC has been variable from lows of 11.2 to 12.5

Kmpl in City, which is pretty acceptable to me as an individual. Have not been able to check on highways, though have already done some 1000 Kms on Delhi - Gwalior trip.*

Overall

Go buy it… no car can be perfect and Indica XETA is not an

exception, but overall a practical Car with 5 adults to sit in comfort, great

power and decent mileage to get along with overall low cost of ownership.

Word of Caution: I’m

not a Car expert but I owe a lot to people writing Car reviews and helping me

to take Correct & most practical decision, which has compelled me to key in

my own thoughts and share my experience.

Superb choice for "the First Car Owners"

Xeta is the best car in its price segment especially for the first time buyers. Has great space which doesn't make you feel like choking(which is something that you feel inside an Alto).

The pickup is also good. I drove this car for 200 kms(Delhi to Agra) nonstop and this car gave me amazing results. Even at 120kms/hr speed, you will have full control on the machine. I have driven the car for almost 8000 kms in 5 months.

The only annoying problem is it knocks when the AC is on. sometimes you loose the acceleration while changing gears with AC on.

But, this problemi believe is with all cars in this range.

The power steering in Maruti WagonR or Santro in much smoother then Xeta coz Xeta has Mechanical PS while others use Electronic PS. So, you will definitely find some difference while driving both the cars.

Though the body of Indica is much heavier then any other car in this segment.

The mileage on AC(in Delhi) is 13kms/litre approx. without AC is 14.5 kms/ hr. you can also get good discount on the MRP of the car.

8000 KMs in 10 months vs. 2000 KMs in 4 months

Hiya,

For those who are frequent visitors to MS, I wrote a review earlier at 2000 KMs. Here is an update on that after running an additional 6000 KMs. That makes it 8000 KMs. Yay! Am good at Maths.:)

I love the Hyderabad winds:); therefore, I do not use the AC often. Probably have used AC for less than 25% of the KMs traveled.

Psst. the findings more or less have not changed over the previous ones. Those which I modified are prefixed with a single asterisk(*) and those added are prefixed with a hash(#).

*What I liked about the car(Xeta GVS [Dec 2006]):

*- Average(14+ KMPL)

  • Space and comfort.

  • # Good leg room - for rear seats too.

  • Road-grip; feels safe; sturdy and heavy.

    • Pick up seems good for a car that heavy.

  • Complete family car.

  • Trunk space, which increases considerably with 60:40 split, foldable seats.

  • Ground clearance.

  • # Handles well even on highways.

  • # Am happy with the Dealer(Malik Cars) and the Service Station (Towli Chowki) folks so far. Did you hear me say "touch wood"?

# Conclusion: I am very happy about the performance so far. Overall, a good car for people like me who need a little comfort and luxury in life;) at as low cost as possible. Yes, no doubt that you can get much more luxury in a high-budget car.:)

What I am not too happy about:

  • The reverse gear shift is not smooth.

  • Driver-side's beam of the roof hampers visibility while turning towards right.

  • Crude finish; TATAs could have done better.

  • Driver's seat is not too comfortable; should have had longer and better thigh-support.

  • # I am almost 6 feet, but I feel the ABC(Accelerator, Brake, Clutch) is just a little high. Especially, if I push my seat forward the angle is not too confortable for my ankles. Not sure if this has to do with car design or the ankle design.:D

# Conclusion:These not-too-happy-about concerns may just be the case with any car in Xetas' budget. Would leave that for you to decide and do a trade-off between luxury and budget if you wish.:) Good luck.

Off topic: Has anyone ever seen TATA emphasizing on safety features like car crash tests, crumple zones, and so on? I have not seen or heard about the safety features to a great extent? Can anyone take a shot at this? Thanks.
