Indica beast in small car segment
May 15, 2015 03:54 PM 68277 Views

I am using Indica v2 since 2005 dls model & I have to admit that I love this car more than my Ford figo just 3 months old.I used to travel 50 -60 Kms per day.

So till date it has crossed 2 LK km but till date I have never found my self stuck in the middle of the road waiting for some assistance for my Indica.Ac superb because of proper service & just 1 week back I had gone through a very major accident & guys believe me I have just a very minor injuries. because of the build quality & by the grace of god my cars engine is also fine.

Never gives up, makes you reach home safely
Dec 29, 2014 03:46 PM 77050 Views

I love this car. Best in mileage on highways it gives me 23kmpl and 18kmpl in local. Mine is a 2004 model.

I am always confident about this vehicles reliability. Never breaks down if proper care is taken.

Maintenance is low and even a road side mechanic can set it right. Very spacious but too many vibrations and sounds like a city bus.

But this is not the mistake of Tata, but with the diesel technology available at that time.

Starts in single ignition every time, but takes two times on heavily cold days.

Spares are cheap. No back pain even after long drives, I love this specialty very much. On highways you really can not feel the sound of engine. Pick up is OK.

Agonising story with Tata Indica. Need help.
Apr 19, 2013 07:35 AM 19789 Views

To all the readers,

My name is Noor Jahan Khan, I am a lecturer at Jain university, I am writing this mail to you to share the Agony I as a victim of a fire accident in my Tata Indica Dicor going through.

Please read through my case and help me as what to do next!

The fire accident was when for some unexplained reason my car caught fire. My Husband and my two year old baby girl were the ones at the scene and my Husband had just dropped me at college.

It has been three weeks Whence and we are still struggling between the workshop and Insurance Company.

Once the workshop did not want to give a technical report on how the fire had occurred and then the Insurance company Insisting on that from the workshop.

Above all after three weeks on 18th April we get a confirmation that the cost of repairs will be over Rs.1, 00, 000. Though the insurance will pay 50% of cost only on fiber parts this is going to be a bad pinch for us.

Three weeks without our vehicle the agony we duffer for our daily commute. Here is the incident I want to narrate of what had happened on 27th March, 2013.

What started as a regular day, when my husband dropped me at my college and drove down to my sister's place, 2 kms. away from my college, to drop my 2 year old baby girl, when tragedy struck. As soon as the car was stopped in from of my sister's house, without any warning signs, the car caught fire inside the bonnet.

My husband, after sensing something smoky, moved my baby girl out of the car and tried to have a look at the car. Bonnet was on fire! With some help from neighbors he put the fire off after 10 mins.

Next, he called Tata emergency helpline who arranged a towing service to the Concord Motors service center at Bommanahalli, Bangalore. The service station guys assessed the car and made the job card on 27th March.

We always thought Concord motor was better than any other service center. But they are pathetic. Without showing empathy on us, they took 2 weeks just to assess (without even once touching the car) and co-ordinate with insurance official.

For a moment, they made us feel like beggars! We visited the service center on 8th April to check on what's happening. We missed work and went with baby girl to see why they called us. After 1hrs wait, they told us that insurance guys needed technical report to investigate further to approve the amount! For a matter that could have been resolved over telephonic conversation, we were asked to present ourselves to meet the branch manager himself.

Irony, on our visit, after a wait of an hour, the manager dint have the courtesy to explain us the situation. We understood that there was something big cooking! An employee of Concord motors, introduced himself as Ravi, clearly mentioned that they will be unable to provide the technical report. And that we will have to negotiate with the Insurance company.

We had to create a scene to make them agree to submit the report to the insurance company. The most important thing is that during this time they never mentioned the estimate of costs. Post the incident my husband got a call on 10th to fill in details on the technical report. It has taken them 8 days hence to finally close the insurance approval process and get a work order.

To our utter surprise they are now Quoting a price of Rs. 1 Lakh. With the state of affairs even for a family where three members are earning. This sum is substantial and is like rubbing salt on wound. We would like to make this public to let every one know that TATA vehicles are the worst when it comes to service and expense of repairs.

This was a showcasing how bad their customer service can get and unacceptable behavior. We feel sad that when we chose to buy Tata Indica Dicor as our first car thinking it will be value for money. The sheer way we have been treated and our case handled with such casual attitude makes us feel that this is the biggest mistake of our lives.

And we are paying for it. For the money we would have spent on this Car and Tata we could have easily chosen a  competitor's petrol car.

Good vehicle In competative price
Oct 02, 2012 10:36 PM 33983 Views

I have a Indica V2 dls of 2009 model.I am happy to say that I covered 80k kms and only with less maintenance cost I use castrol GTD oil for my engine and after every 7 to 8 k kms I change it with all oil filter, fuel filter, coolant and wheel alignment after every 4 k kms.

The engine is very smooth till today even if I hit speeds of 140km/hr normally I drive within 80 to 90 kms/hr for good fuel efficiency  after 3years I got a problem of starting problem which I thought it was due to weak battery but when I called up tata green battery guys they saw that battery was ok but problem was still there so we went to a mechanic and he find out what real problem was.It was heater plugs failure when I replaced them with new again my vehicle became new as it was.

So just go for it if u want a fuel efficient and sturdy on road and comfortable for 5 adults low maintenance than other brands this is it.If u want to talk to me u can call to my  cell no 9491116636.Bye take care and wear seat belts please and follow traffic rules even if no body cares or nobody is there to see u bye.

The Tata Indica V2 is one of the reliable versions of Indica by Tata. The earlier models were unreliable and unstable. This car has good mileage and works well for the Indian road. Even though it rides well and gives good mileage, this car is not a very smooth ride. There is lots of noise while driving and the ride is rather bumpy. From the outside, the looks are good but the interiors of the car are rather drab. mostly it looks all plastic.

TATA ACE sucks in quality
Nov 15, 2011 10:20 AM 30411 Views

I didnt have an option to mention about commercial vehicles, I recently bought a TATA ACE from LGB in trichy road, Coimbatore. After confirming the delivery time to the executive we were made to wait for nearly 2 hours for the delivery. Once we took the vehicle for filling diesel the tube staring leaking profusely and we had to return to the service centre immediately. the incharge says that the truck drivers used to suck all the diesel and shall not fix the diesel tube properly. Much to my amusement we were not given a spare wheel. they said that they will send it after 10 days. Its been 2 weeks but no news from the dealer. the steering is not in alignment and it is titled to the right even if all the tyres are staright. The rear door lock does not work from day one.

the delaer gives delivery upon taking teh complete payment, will he care to reduce the price for non delivery of spare wheel.

In India it has become a habit for bigger players to take their customers for granted.TATA ACE HT. the name is big not your product nor your dealer.

Best car in the market for fuel consumption
Aug 06, 2011 09:25 AM 23825 Views

I recommend dis car for my friends as dis is d best for fuel consumption.. Its give on an average 22 kms mileage per litre. Ya the looks of this car is boring. U cant be so much reliable also bcz after 2-3 years dis car requires a lot of maintenance.

The comfort inside is good and I feel inside space also good and the best part its very economical..One has to spend very less on fuel as the fuel consumption is good.

Last three years I am using this car without any problem. I am very happy with the performance . I am recommending all to get this for long drive & also for city ride.as of it is my 1st car I am enjoying a lot. an average of 20 km / lt mileage is coming regularly in city ride condition.

As per my experience I had traveled from hyd to bbsr with a single move without any stoppage.it was quite comfortable to ride with a very good system.

Driven 45000 kms on Dicor
May 30, 2011 10:49 AM 15885 Views

I have driven 45000 kms on my dicor. Here are my 2 cents

Pros: Mileage of 18 - 19 on highways with AC, Highway overtaking at speeds less than 90Kms/hr is excellent. Great pickup, Service only every 10K kms so less hit on pocket. Car service folks are decent. Space is excellent. Cost of operations is very low.

Cons: Above 90km/hr, the steering is not very comfortable in the hands.feels very light. Position of pedals are pretty high. Had to change clutch plate at 30K kms and engine oil change at 40K kms. Punctures are common(not sure if it is because I forget the air part pretty often or because of the car weight).

Overall, I liked driving in the car to office, but I would really go for a higher end car for the highways.

Indica Dicor is the worst of all on road cars.
Apr 13, 2011 03:43 PM 15914 Views

This is the worst of TATA motors. The DICOR sucks, to say the least. As per the engineers of TATA, DICOR engine is so far the worst one. And I have a list of failures to prove this to anybody who reads this.

Read on my nightmare:

My Indica DICOR is 3 years old. Done 40KM. Single handed and driven on Deli roads.

Recently, I planned to shift my residence from Delhi to Maharashtra, and I decided to continue with the vehicle rather then selling it off. In my journey of 1100 Km, I encountered series of technical failures (which still continues) that has made it an untrustworthy car for me.

First problem: The engine time belt broke. Leaves me stranded amidst the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. Eventually, I had to seek from the nearby village and towed my car all the way to Jaipur.

Second Problem: On complete analysis, the engineer gave me a shock that the rockers had broken off. And off went my bank balance.

Third Problem: The Nozzles got jammed and costed me another 7k.

I left from Jaipur after this minor(pun) rectification and headed for the rest my journey. After 300KM, the engine oil started to leak. Damn this car.

Fourth Problem: In the middle of another journey, I saw a TATA Motor showroom and service center. The engineers checked and gave me another shock- The GAS Kit was leaking.

After the rectification, I somehow managed to reached my destination, finally. But the problem didn't end there. The very next day there was some sound in the engine, as if something is stopping the engine. It came particularly when the AC was switched on.

I drove my car to the service center (which I have been doing it almost daily). And the problem this time was the Fan Belt. Damn.

Certainly, buying an Indica has been my biggest fault, and not selling it is an even bigger one.

PLease don't fall to the fake promises of TATA Motors. Their products are economical but not worth the buy.

From,

The guy who has no money left. Mukesh.

P.S: Did I mention that the body of the car is weak and makes a hell lot of noise. And also, that the rare shock-ups are just a bounce away from another expenditure?

One of the most affordable car
Jan 07, 2011 04:45 PM 21822 Views

I got a Indica turbo v2 in 2007. This is my second purchase of Indica (after their first petrol version indica 2000). The car is really low on maintenance and running cost. I am getting an average of 17 ~ 19 kmpl with ac on in the city (i stay in Delhi).

Its unbelievable but TRUE. The car gives a mileage of 19 ~ 21 kmpl with ac on, on the highway. The vehicle so far has done 103548 kms. I had done many trips to hills with it, to location like Shimla, Manali, and (hold your breath) Rohtan pass.

Overall the car performed quite well but uphill pull was really bad (with 45 degree gradients) all thanks to its weight and low bhp.

Light steering and quite responsive engine (considering its a Tata Diesel engine). On plains the vehicle is a hit. In all a good value for money product.

Thanks,

Murli

Him Motors Dealer and service center is worst

I always felt pride in aquring the TATA Car and no doubt they have tried their level best to give decent quality car at a decent price however their service network is pathetic especially HIM MOTORS Patparganj I gave my perfectly running car for service and they returned me the car which had starting problem initially they told me the heat plugs have gone bad and replaced 3 and charged me quite surprisingly were working fine until I gave it for service and then I was told that Disel filter assembly has gone bad initially they accepted it is due to the fault at the service center but later on retracted on the same.

Tata Indica V2
Sep 04, 2010 03:46 PM 24330 Views

Indica V2 is a nice car from Tata motors..I have this car since 5 years and the car has given me less problem..It is spacious and can easily accommodate 5 persons easily..2 at front and 3 at back...I had taken it from Tata showroom from Thane, the person who we talked and discussed was quite helpful, he cleared all the queries which we had and explained in detail..

The control of the car is very good..Even at high speed it is stable, and also at turning it is quite good control..The looks are good and stylish..the problem I faced is with fuel consumption..at start the mileage given is quite good but it decreases..I get around 12 kmpl mileage in city..one more problem is some sound it makes..I inquired about it and the response I got was "It comes from every indica"

But it's worth a car..but I think they should improve a little bit..

Good and spacious car, very low on power
Jun 07, 2010 10:38 PM 24131 Views

Its near to 7 years since I have bought this vehicle. ti be exact in Jul 2003.

Why an Indica

At the time of buyung the vehicle, I was expecting a daily run of near to 40 kms on a daily basis and hence diesel was the prime lookout. In 2003, the options of a diesel car in the hatchback segment was only Indica and Palio (While I was very keen on the 1., 9 Palio, it was ruled out since my better half didnt like the rear end of  a palio. Added to this the fact that my bro also has an Indica tilted my favour towards Indica).

My daily travel literally came to 0/ day since my wife didnt join her higher stdies and that left me to opt for company vehicle for transportation. Over these years my prefered vehicle was always 2 wheelers (I had a splendor and now a Yam Gladi, both reviews are posted in Mouthshut), Indica ended up in the garage most of the time. Added to this, couple of trips from base location and Indica ended up as a low mileage vehicle. Ran just 45K in 7 Yrs time period

What I dont like in the car

  • Very low power. While the vehicle is pretty nice to drive above 70 Kms/ hr in the highways. its 53 bhp makes it difficult driving  in City limits. Switch on the AC and I need to dance on accelerator to get it moving. AC ride is a strict No no in this vehicle (the newer ones with Turbo performs way better). this is one of the main reason why I am looking/ recommend for a new vehicle.

  • Suspension issues -  while this is not a total disappointment, any potholes and disturbance in the road is passed to the cabin. The ride on a smooth road is butter smooth though. (I m not sure if the tires has a say in these. I am still in OEM  Good year tires till now and looking for a replacement in next week)

-  Sound inside cabin  - More to say that its a truck. the ICE sounds deafens it a lot, but still its a truck

  • Tachometer - The  DLS version didnt come with a Tacho and I miss that in driving. High noice in cabin makes me shift earlier than the power band

-  TASS -  Tata authorised service centre was never tata's plus point, be in Bangalore or at Trivandrum and once I moved to a local mechanic, life is pretty cool. TASS is always crowded and one is treated like a cab driver. Takes away the feel good factor.

  • Small nitty gritty issues

  • Rim bends on high speed hits on pot holes

  • wheel balancing and alignment a must in 5K Kms.

  • Small rattles here and there

  • rubbery gear shift

  • very hard clutch. takes away the fun in driving in bangalore bumper to bumper traffic

Good things

  • Space -  No doubt this is one of the spacoius hatch in the market. Barring the new Indica vista and i20/ Punto. The controls are also easy to reach

  • Wiper controls -  7 speeds  - including 5 intermittent ones. very useful in slow drizzles

-  Running costs - I keep track of  every cost assosiated with the vehicle and in the span of 7 Yrs and 45K Kms, my fuel efficiency is 17.2 Kmpl and that takes the running cost near to 2.5 Rs/ Km.

  • Overall VFM - Everyone assosiates Tata vehicles with low reliability and maintenance issues. However my overall maintenance cost over 7 Yrs is 29000 (Service cost of 17947 and Maintenance/ parts cost of 10860). So average maintenance cost of near to 4K/ year (very well in the league of petrol vehicles)

  • TIUG -  Tata Indica user group, a super active yahoo group that discusses all and everything related to Indica. I feel I know a lot better abt Indica going through the group. it has become the first place to look for  advise and recommendations in case of a problem. thanks to its very helpful seniors who take time to answer each and every query coming their way

Recommendation (Yes and No)

I would recommend this to people

  • who are okay with small nitty gritty issues.

  • can live with the taxi image

  • want a diesel advantage

However considering the new age vehicles, this falls short of power, image, sound insulation and other factors ( barring the space).

But if you are looking for one that' silent, power at your tap and image concious, then I dont think this vehicle is for you.

Overall a value for money car. A pretol Indica was costing only 20K less than the Diesel one in 2003 and till date even with the low running , it gave its return. The low running costs gives enough freedom and fuel costs was never a concern for any long trip.

if I am looking for a new hatch now, its just because of the low power (takes away the fun). Tata has constantly inproved the quality in its vehicles and I believe the newer ones are way better than the 2003 models.

Will I buy an Indica again - May be

-  -the space inside an indica literally spoiled me that even with the small isues I faced, still I may evnture back to Tata stable

-  if tata did fixed the issue of low power (I suppose they did as Indica NA is 87 Nm while it Turbo counter part is 135 Nm and the fiat diesel is 190 Nm), then my main concern is sorted out, rest all I think I can live with considering the space it provides

Regards,

GeorgeV

Truly More car per car
May 13, 2010 09:22 AM 23229 Views

I bought my Tata Indica V2 DLS in July 2008. I have considered several other cars before zeroing in on this car. The primary reason was the fuel efficiency of this car, with about an average usage of 1200 km per km within the city every month and occasional highway rides, the mileage it offers was attractive. Inside the city it gives me a mileage of 16-17 km/hr (with A/C on) and outside 1 or 2 km more. (Highway mileage is not significantly high for me because I accelerate upto 120 Kmph otherwise I have heard from guys that it gives you upto 20 kmpl).

The car offers you the best AC of its class. A review about Indica is incomplete if do not mention about the space it offers inside. The leg room, height of the seats are better than some expensive sedans. Many of my friends use to call me cabbie for owning this car, I just ignore them for what I get in this car. However I happened to travel in a Vista recently and I was astounded by its interior looks, given a choice now I would go for Vista for its new engine and nice interior and exterior looks. Also it seemed to me that it is more spacious than Indica V2. (I am not sure, but felt that way).

People always have doubt about the maintenance of the diesel engines. I have owned this car for about two years with approx 34000 KM done I have not spent for any major maintenance problem tildate. The car goes for a regular service once in every 7000 km and it needs no maintenance care in between.

Indica (and now Vista) is a nice car to own as it gives you the real value for money.

Indica V2 Turbo DLG, Bajla Motors, Siliguri
May 04, 2010 05:59 PM 16947 Views

Buying a new car, driving it is like a dream come true for most of the people as myself. It was 2007, after 2-3 months of research we finally settled that ‘indica v2 turbo dlg’ was the best car for us, the car is a good car.

Having accumulated the money to buy car in full cash, we headed for the dealer in siliguri – bajla motors, sevoke road. Had some talk with them at our home, finalized & got the blazing-red indica dlg home-delivered within few days to coochbehar (150 km from siliguri). We were very happy, but it was the beginning of our pain somehow.

The company/dealer sales representative saurav mitra took the opportunity of fooling us.

He thought we don’t know anything technical and how to deal/buy new things and gave us a faulty car which was previously owned by some-body then returned due to the fault (we came to know this after checking some documents). The car had a major engine fault – a manufacturing defect, the coolant line was choked inside engine block causing many malfunction. I must say bajla motors has showed that day how much poor/bad ethics they had i.e. Knowingly sold a defective car to someone – very bad.

In response to our complain, the took in the car to repair kept it for 3-4 day, changed most of the under-hood parts, but failed everytime. Next they wanted to open the engine block/head etc and redo the engine fully.

This was not acceptable to us. Having paid 4.4 lac in cash for new car and getting engine major repair-work within 10-15 days of purchase. We said no, can’t take it anymore. Got a lawyer’s help and replaced the car. (the new car in ok and runs very nice)

So my advice to people is that be careful with bajla motors, siliguri.

Moreover, if you find saurav mitra anywhere, remember you are dealing with a very bad & unethical person, try not to buy car from him. I even got feedback from few car spare-parts dealer that he has been fooling around with many people there as he did with us. Car is a good one, but dealer / sales personnel bad.

My experience with bajla motors and saurav mitra was very bad/poor and very painful. What bajla motors & saurav mitra said was that they had this car there for long & they had to sell it to someone at last. (may be they found us suitable-but was wrong. Think if you are that person selected to be fooled).

Car is good, but:

I will not recommend dealing with bajla motors or saurav mitra.

According to me one should not buy
Mar 10, 2010 07:02 PM 22565 Views

From beginning, when we wanted to buy a car we thought of many cars but due to some reasons like less price of diesel than petrol. More space in side. And first 9-10 months we really enjoyed!!

But problem starts when there were many problems related to engine and engine was opened once..

but company still gave a lot of burden on us in the form of money even if it was in warranty...And there was no response from company when we complained. Its only advantage is it is having a good space in side..

it demands a lots of maintenance. So overall, it is not recommended for long term middle class car...

Gr8 value for money car > 1.5 yrs and 27000kms
Jan 30, 2010 03:23 PM 20978 Views

I had bought my V2 indica DLS July 09. I had 3 options while purchasing the car like wagon R, Alto as per my budget. My travelling was more than 2000 Km per month. My basic criteria was rear leg room should be good enough, fuel economy. I had asked to lot many people for suggestion after brainstroming.I had decided to buy Indica V2 DLS.

Today I have travelled nearly 27000 kms in 1.5 years. I am satisfied with my car performance. When I drive my indica with speed 60-70 kmh, I got average around 21 -23km/l w/o AC and 19-21 with AC .Usually I need to visit my hometown couple of times in month. For higher speed also like 110 kmh (specially on express highway from Bombay to pune) the car is quit stable. There are some vibrations on the steering wheel, but those are ok.I have also drove on very very bad roads in rural area, the car is having gr8 suspension. I had drove my car for 400km - 600 kms at a time with one or two breaks for many times.I am comfortable while driving the car. I am happy with value for money car has provided.

I dont like the Wheel rims provided, those are bending many times on bad roads. The pickup of car is bad while Ac is on.Take care of wheel alignment for every 3500 - 5000 km as engine is heavy so need precaution on this front.

Indica Turbo - wonder car
Dec 09, 2009 02:04 PM 12895 Views

My Indica Turbo - DLG is Oct 2005 model - done 40000+ Kms so far. This is a very good car - Steady, Sturdy, Excellent Pickup and good milage. Good space inside as goos as Honda City.

I did on road and off-road - no issues at all. Still as good as ex-showroom condition. Just maintain one brand diesel(turbo Jet is mine), every 5000 Kms servicing and every 10000 oil change. Run engine idle every time you start and stop.

So far I had just changed battery - nothing else.

I am looking to change the car - but no car diesel or pertrol has a feel more than this by all means but for looks. Barring SUV's.

This cars runs @ 130 Kmph comfortably. No safety features in corporated - but I had a Hit with stationary truck at 80 Kmph.just boynett got damaged and streering wheel got a bend - no impact to anyone inside. 2 Days my car is back in action. Solid IRON sheets all around.
