I am using a maruti wagon-r since 7-8 months and  am truly happy about it . I am a speed loving guy who drives 500-1000 km a fortnite! earlier I was not happy with the shape of car but the performance it had shown till now covers all its dislikes!

pick-up - it is slightly slower than other cars

speed- once you hit the top gears then you can even compete luxury cars like skoda, honda, accent! its 1100 cc engine helps you compete on plain roads! most of my driving is on national highway no 4 which is one of the best roads in country!( that doesn't mean that I have not seen any other roads!) if I overtake a car then wagon-r doesn't allow the same car to cross again! this is the confidence I got from wagor-r

CAN WRITE A LOT OF THINGS ABOUT IT!

A Simple Indian CAR deserves a Simple review
Dec 19, 2009 08:32 PM 6378 Views

Generally people say that this car resembles a "BOX with wheels".

But thats exactly why I say that this is one of the most affordable and durable small cars around.

After all these years .we ve even seen ZEN getting a make over.

But Wagon-R Remains the same.

That is because the manufacturers would have thought that "this is one of the most simple looking cars and let us keep it simple"

I ve added Black leather like seat cover which gives it a sporty feel from inside on an otherwise boring interior.

I have also included pioneer mp3 Audio system with JBL speakers on the back. The music system is decent.

that is all the additions that I have made.

1100cc engine does well on city roads.

But when we take this fellow on a highway, Does pretty well till 100kmph but between 110 and 120 kmph you would feel pretty strong vibrations that would force you to reduce the speed .:-(

Has a good ground clearance for a small car.

=>would fit in 4 Fat people or 5 athletic-looking or slim people

Wagon R, Santro, Spark or Zen Estilo
Dec 13, 2009 03:54 PM 7369 Views

I'm about to buy my first car and I've narrowed my choices down to 4 choices: Wagon R, Santro, Spark or Zen Estilo. Wagon R and Santro are tired and tested, Santro might be a little more costly.

My budget is around 3.5 - 4 lacs. I need help in deciding the final one, please provide me your inputs.

Also please let me know if I should go for the LPG version, don't know much since none have my friends have it.

So please share with me your experiences, it would be very helpful to me.

Thanks & Regards

Its really a very good car
Dec 02, 2009 04:25 PM 8250 Views

I have completed 42000 km last month. It is July 2007 model Wagon R duo LXI. My long-planed wheel upgrade finally happened yesterday. I was wating for my car to reach 42000 km milestone, though I achived miles last month, had to wait for another some days coz the Alloy & Tubeless Tyres of my preferred brand & size were not in stock & the  tyre dealer had to order & get the same.

So, finally alloy & tyre reached the dealer & I drove to his shop y'day and got the new shoes fitted on to my car.

Alloy: Aura (Model No.D3350) 13"X5".

Price: Rs.8600/- (for 4 pcs.)

Tyre: Infinity INF030 155/70/R13 (TUBELESS)

Price: Rs.1600x4=6400/- (for 4 tyre) with bill & warranty.

Air Comp.: Rs.400/-

Tubeless repairkit: Rs.250/-

Wheel Balancing & Alignment: Rs.300/-

Initial impression:

Alloys definitly enhances the looks of the car and the wheels it self is now a head turner!!!!!!!!!

I can feel better steering control, also feel steering is slightly light-weighted too. Braking has greatly improved, able to do tight corners at bit high speeds. Ride comfort is awesome, feels like driving on a carpet, just glides over pot-holes and rough patches with ease.

Wagon R is O.K., not fantastic
Dec 01, 2009 09:44 PM 7538 Views

I purchased a new Wagon R Lxi last December. After paying Rs. 3.80 lacs(approx), which is not a small amount, the outcome is here under:

Pros: 1. Good average, 17 kmpl in city  2. Good Front leg space  3. Tall persons can freely go inside 4. Good A.C. 5. Smooth engine. 6. Cheap spare parts 7. No starting problem

Cons: 1. Body noise, specially plastic parts, I hate driving keeping the window glasses closed 2. Poor Horn   3. Thin Body sheet 4. width not sufficient, can not accommodate three persons in back seat properly 5. Poor instant pickup, think twice before overtaking a series of trucks on a highway  7. Starts waving once you cross 80 kmph due to high centre of gravity and small wheels 8. Poor visibility due to front side bars 9. poor visibility while reversing 10. You can feel the roughness of the road due to small wheels & thin tyres .11 Can't see speedometer, the stearing blocks view.

What a choice it has been

Hi,

Just to give a brief review on what it took us to come to terms with a middle class couple's requirement.

We are going thru a patch where investing a apartment is a major concern .Car has been not a priority, but was a feel of independence to travel as and when you want . There was also a another aspect, we were sitting with 4 lakhs to spare wondering should we go in for investment options and so forth, ( being eldest and the only family member its quite a hard choice .)

I have been on quite different parts of the world and had a quite  good amount of opportunity to drives the best cars in the market, being a long distance drive from one corner to the another in a Honda Civic / Ford in Saudi Arabia, or trying the Merc / Volvo in Norway .Driving a sedan is quite pleasure abroad, but being  just a few minutes in a Mumbai traffic is a nightmare . The comfort in American or German or for that matter Japanese cars are really good .One needs to understand India, economics is all that matters .

Roads are a disaster in India, but it does connect to the destination .

My wife had a simple logic, I spend 4 months in a year in India and it would be worth a secondhand car like Alto, some how Maruti is a household name . But then arise question like, what if it gives away or some thing breaks down . So the option left was ideal, 4 lakhs take it or leave it anything that suit’s our Budget . Wagon R was all around us , every apartment in our lane housed at least one .

Hyundai I 10!, I actually work in Korea and do drive Korean cars like KIA Carnival and Hyundai, but i 20 and I 30 are quite popular, so is Click or say Getz .

Budget constraint took us straight Wagon R .Lxi 376000, Inclusive of  basic Audio player  JVC brand and tube less tyre’s . We have driven within the city and its one hell of car for 4 people its just comfortable in all aspect  and easy to handle in traffic, power steering .

We decided to drive down to Lonavala thru Mumbai Pune Express rd at a speed ranging from 65 to 80, some times 100 km / hr  ( feels a bit unstable on high speeds) .Fuel economics was about roughly around 19 km on a long run( Ac switched off, we just purchased this car in Nov 2009)  . The gear from fourth to fifth needs some effort and technique, but I am  sure after a couple to times it gets easy . In all we find this a very economical, comfortable and enjoyable

    The perfect wonder
    Nov 21, 2009 08:17 PM 7830 Views

I am from amritsar, punjab. I bought it from jaycee Amritsar dated 3rd April 2009. Till date I have drive 2200 Km on city and highway. Before purchasing this car I searched a lot  of cars. In my range are i10, santro xing, spark, alto, zen estilo, Indica vista petrol.

Here I am compare each with wagon R Lxi Petrol and try to show you why I purchased wagon R Lxi Petrol.

    1. Diesel Vs Petrol :- As my monthly usage is very less approximate 300 - 400 kms. So I purchased the Petrol version.

    2. Petrol vs Gas(LPG):- In my personal view the LPG car doesnot have the fun of driving. It will effect on speed limit, pick up, bad lpg smell some time, after 2-4 years it will effect on engine(if you not properly  service you car i.e. change engine oil, filter, spark plugs after 3000km which extra cost 3000 yearly). My personal view is if you want to purchase an lpg car dont buy a car buy an auto where you can also fit 4-5 persons.

    3. i10 vs wagon R:-  i10 have less space(Remember good space is required for relaxation in any case wheter you buy a car, home, or go to park etc.) .  i10 gear is very smooth.which is a plus point for i10. But it is attached to the dashboard which makes it look better.you also feel comfort of gear when you test drive it. But for long run it is wrong position. You will not feel comfortable on the long run when you shift the gear. The interior of i10 is better than wagon R. But interior is only a makeup. (Without makeup try to see the real beauty of a girl, car). Engine wise wagon R engine is better than i10 era. Both have similar price range. spare parts and service of i10 costly than wagon R.

    4. Santro xing vs Wagon R:- I love the santro xing shape from exterior. But its interior is very old 10 year. Wagon R engine is better than santro. Comfortability of both are good. Average of Wagon R is better. Spare parts and service of Wagon R is cheaper. Also remember Wagon r is japnees brand and i10 is korean. The japnees are many times ahead in automobile technology from korea.

    5. Spark vs Wagon R:- Spark is good car but the sevice and spare parts are not available some time. Wagon  R(maruti) have more service stations. Even at a remote place you can find a maruti (wagon R) machinic but very difficult to find a spark(chvrolet) mechanic. Look of spark is not good. It feels me like maruti 800. Resale value of spark is not good.

    6. alto vs wagon R:- I want to purchase a 1000cc engine car because it have more pick up , speed and conrtol. the alto looks me like martui 800 which I previously owns. I want a change. Also the wagon R is more roomy than alto.

    7. Zen estilo vs Wagon R:- Although both have same engine. The zen estilo have good interior. But from exterior it like me NANO(Now the make exterior change) . But the dash board of wagon R is very useful. The dashboard of Wagon R is not made for good show it is made for comfortability. Also the resale value is not good for zen estilo. The zen estilo sale is very poor and always keep away from those goods(cars) that have very less sale.

    8. Indica vista petrol vs wagon R:- The tatas are known for diesel engine. I know that in petrol vista thay have the fiat sfire engine. But the sale of vista petrol is very less and it is rule of thumb "stay away from less selling goods(cars)" . The life of indica vista is less than wagon R. The reliability of wagon R is more than vista.

So at last I purchase the waogon R Lxi petrol. And I am completely satisfied.

    1. Front left axel making noise- Needed to be replaced

Any other manufacturing fault  that is hidden not visible easily. Please let me know, so that I can check within warranty period

    1. Rear wheel inner liner mud protection is absent - The mud in rains comes out of the bumper and makes it dirty.

    Wonder Car
    Nov 17, 2009 01:25 PM 5787 Views

I purchased a Wagon R In May 2009 and so far have been enjoying the ride in the wonder car. Its comfortable, spacious, looks good, relaible for long drives, fuel efficient.

Since my usage was ideally in the city, I preferred a petrol version and not a DUO. However, my friends who are using DUO also have a good feedback about the car.

I would only suggest you to buy the car from an autorised dealer and not a sub dealer. Though sub dealers give a better price then the authorised dealer, they do not really give a good customer service. I purchased the car from 4 Wheels in chembur and didnt quite enjoy the buying experience. I would recommend this product, worth its value..

    Nov 13, 2009 04:09 PM 11582 Views

This baisakhi I bought wagon r in a cool blue colour, out of all the cars from small car category, i this wagon r is the winner by far.i find the interiors very spacious, especially front seats, leg room.i have two kids and have to carry lots of things while travelling(cycles e.t.c.).

But I find back space very accomodating, average wise also in city it gives me around 14 -15.i also find it's height very appropriate, as some times I wear sarees& other indian dresses I feel very comfortable in the driving seat.as it is a compact car, it helps me a lot in parking it in conjusted spaces. there is one thing which I would like to me

    Wagon R VXI (2009) - Comfort Vehicle
    Oct 28, 2009 09:46 AM 8256 Views

This July (2009), I exchanged my old Maruti 800 DX (Five speed) - 2000 model vehicle with new Wagon R (Petrol) and I found that I didn’t make any mistake by buying this car. Its inside space is bigger than my old car and very comfortably, I drive this vehicle.

The back seats are at good height and it feels that we are sitting on a sofa. I purchase the VX-I model from Kurukshetra at a price of 3.57 lacs and exchanged my old car to Maruti True Value and also got the exchange bonus. Free Insurance, Free Accessories and extended warranty were the other features. This model is fitted with power steering, power windows (front), good air conditioner with heater, devise to clear fogging and also the wheel covers.

The idea to purchase Wagon R was made after a through research. Firstly I decided to buy only the Maruti product due to the reason that 1) I was using the vehicle for many years, 2) the Maruti products are economical and 3) the services are available at every hook and corner whereas services centre of other manufacturers are rarely found. Than after deciding the manufacturer, I tried the A-Star, Ritz and Wagon R models and found Wagon R comfortable.

Both A-Star and Ritz doesn’t carry enough leg space and also the luggage space. Few of my friends were already owing the Wagon R Duo model and also suggested me to purchase the same but I preferred Petrol version due to the fact that 1) Auto LPG was not available in this region and people used to refill the gas through the home cylinders and 2) I opined that LPG is highly explosive material and I preferred to buy the Petrol Version. So far about 1700 KM.s have been driven and I found the vehicle quite comfortable as well as economical as I got around 17 KMPL on highways and 16 KMPL within city.

    Best Car in it's class
    Oct 28, 2009 09:21 AM 5992 Views

I recenty bought Wagon R Vxi Petrol version. The car is easy to drive, small yet spacious and giving decent milage till now 10 kms per ltr. The boot space is quite big as a person can sit in it.

I would say people who wants to buy a small car for family this is the ideal car and without much complications. Afterall it is one of the proven cars of Maruti.

The driving comfort is like you are driving a very light car.

Cons- Maruti is little miser in giving the add ons free. They charge you even for matting, filming and you have to add your own stereo. If they provide addons free it will be a customer delight.

The services offered by dealer and customer attention was too good. I bought this car from Sai Service station Andheri. The salesperson was pleasant and expalined all the details and also offered a test drive. Since this was not our first car I wanted to spend some time reviewing different cars.

Don't forget to take care of your car as you take of your near ones.

    cheers.

    Wagon R means Reliabilty
    Oct 25, 2009 06:09 PM 7076 Views

I am using wagonr LXi silky silver colour from last 7 month. It is a wonderfull car. Milage I am getting on highway is 20 km without a/c and 18/ km with AC. What I can expect extra? Servcie of maruti is amazing. I purchased my car from Prem motors jaipur and they are very customer fiendly.

If any one wants value for money and reliabilae product, can go for wagon r blindly. Looks are also good. I have used my car on higway. in rural areas with lot of sand on road but the performance is quite good. Share my experience on 09799391879.

Good City Car but NO on Highway
    Oct 16, 2009 12:19 PM 6288 Views

This is my first review on mouthshut. Direct to the point, I purchased Wagon R LXI (actually dealer forced it to purchase). I was first time buyer so did not know much about the automobile things but wanted to own a family car.

Now I would like to share on below points after driving it for a year.

    1. Space inside : After a year, going for may trips I could realised that the space in the car is not much. I mean no 3 average size persons could seat at back.

    2. Dealer Satisfaction : Not at all good. Irony is, for first FREE servicing Dealer (Sai Services, JM Road, Pune) they charged me 3K. This does not seems to be FREE at all. After that I did all the FREE servicings at Maruti Care Point and they did the servicing in Rs. 110. ITs not fake, I can show the bill. So, never do the servicing from dealer.

    3. Fuel Consumption : City :- 14km/ltr (petrol)

    Highway : - 17km/ltr (petrol)

    1. Comfort : Its good but not very good. For long drives certainly it is not good but for city drive its fine.

    2. Reliability : On this point Maruti Suzuki scores a lot. There was situation were I could not start the car for 2 weeks. But when I started my car after 2 weeks it got started immediately with no hesitation. Engine is certainly fundastic. Cetainly Mr. Reliable

    3. Looks : Wagon R does have Asian loooks. The new wagon R (which I owned) is much better than the older one.

    4. Highway Run : With wagon R fully loaded takes some time to pick up and this sometimes causes annoyes to the fellow cars. And I could not drive the car beyond 110. Though it shakes a lot after 90.

Last word : If driving is city go for it, if highway think before buying.

    Wagan R LPG
    Oct 11, 2009 04:10 PM 7516 Views

The company has fitted the worst LPG KIt in It, IN Euro III Version the Maruti has destroyed the feel of wagan R it is slugish like a Diesel Car it should be avoided.

Go for Santro or Spark or even the Xeta (tata) has advanced LPG Kit. And on top of it the dealers are in Denial and are not even ready to accept that it suffers from such ailments.. Workers at the Authorised service station are not trained, I have suffered the agony at the Chitoosoo Motors at Mohali Punjab where the have retired the timing of my can and it became more slugish.

I have run form pillar to post but of no use, Some satisfaction at Berklay Chandighar but on the whole if your vehicle is suffering from manufacturing defect what a dealer can do, as Maruti is very bad in coustomer feed back. Being the Maruti customer you do not feel privileged. and the Maruti car are not value for money any more. One should look for Chevorlet or even TATa who is improving the quality drastically.

    ALEPPEY India
    The good & bad
    Sep 30, 2009 02:25 PM 8861 Views

I would like to share some of my experience with wagonor duo to everybody. First of all the customer satisfaction deponds on what kind the person u r & u r usage. to be honest I am realy happy with my new wagonor duo execpt something.

    The Good:

1st there is no car available in the market in this price (around 4Lakhs) with that much features like fuel ecconomy in LPG, seating space, driving comfort with power stearing & better looks

    The Bad:

As I mentioned in the begining, I am an NRI so mostly I need dicky space while traveling to the airport and picnics.i found it is quiet good in a normal wagonor without LPG gas tank but I realy felt sad to see the dicky space in my DUO because half of that occupied by stepney tyre.

    Recommendation:

To redesign and fix the tyre stepney tyre somewhere else in down side, infront of dicky door or on top of the carrier.

    To purchase the vehicle.
    Sep 17, 2009 02:47 PM 5694 Views

I have bought a wagon r lxi on 15th of this month. I was very dissapointed with the maruti dealers(indus motor). I paid the full amount on spot, they offered me cash reduction plus others offers, but the car came three weeks late. They didn't give the cash reduction plus I have fight with them for the offers. It was indus motors kollam. Please don't go there.

About the car I am happy with it's perfomace. It doesn't give much milage now hope it will improve afterward otherwise the car is ok. small family car to drive in the city.

AFTER A YEAR.... STILL A WINNER
    Sep 07, 2009 05:00 AM 13649 Views

This is an UPDATE-Review of the Maruti Wagon R DUO that I had purchased on 06/08/2008. Its been more than a year now and she has already run 16, 000kms. And I would like to share my experience as a Wagon R owner. Scroll down to the bottom to find a link to the original review.

Here are some observations after a 16, 000 kms run.

    1) MORNING START-UPS:No problems till date. NOT even ONCE. I usually set it to LPG mode before starting. It starts good on Petrol mode as well. No issues at all. The MPFI engine revs up at the 1st key turn, runs at considerable RPM for a few seconds and then calms down to normal RPM. Cant mention the exact RPM values since the DUO does not have a Tachometer.

    2) GEAR SHIFTS:This is a general observation. During the first run of the day, that is, right in the morning, the gears feel too smooth. I can shift through gears very smoothly. after a few kilometres the shift lever starts feeling a bit stiff and the gear shifts are no longer smooth. You will feel some degree of hardness/resistance while shifting.

    3) ACCELERATION:Acceleration has improved. It has become more responsive and crisp. The idling RPM at which the engine is set to, is perfect. Even when you stop during an uphill climb, and then at the next moment you have to pull her up to move forward before the slope drags her backwards (if you know what I mean), at such situations just release the clutch to the correct level and the DUO holds still without applying brakes.Quite impressive for a 1061cc engine running on LPG with a full load of 5 people (grown ups).

    4) BRAKES:Brakes are sufficient. But I would say there is a little room for improvement. They lack the “Bite” that assures me of the capability of the vehicle to stop under any circumstances. It ‘ll make me feel safer. But they are good as they are.

    5) FUEL EFFICIENCY:Fuel efficiency has been quite consistent. City drive gives me between 13.8kmpl to 15kmpl. Not much difference between Petrol and LPG. But LPG feels smoother, though less powerful. In an attempt to get the best mileage, I drove very calmly, shifting gears at the right time, no half clutch, no unnecessary revving, used the accelerator only when needed. Tried to cruise at a constant speed. No unnecessary braking or sudden acceleration, stayed below 65kmph.. but to my surprise I still got the same mileage. Then the next day when I drove her, I wasn’t too soft on her. I used the accelerator generously and also sped upto 110kmph at two different instances. AND STILL.. I got almost the same mileage. And I tried this about 3 to 5 times in a span of 2 months. Quite strange. But if that’s the case, I might as well rev her up and enjoy a strong ride.

    6) TYRES: I am not happy with these tyres. Theyhave to be broader. Definitely. Maruti Alto has got tyres with a better profile. To my knowledge, they are 145/80 R12 as compared to Wagon R’s 145/70 on a R13 (that was in Aug 2008) I am not sure what they are giving out today. But at that time the Wagon R Vxi (Petrol only) variant had better (thicker) tyres than the DUO Lxi. There was no Vxi option for a DUO that time. All I mean to say is that the tyres should not be too thin and they should feel like radials. I will be upgrading them to better ones as soon as the tread wears off.

    7) STEERING/HANDLING:The EPS (Electronic power steering) works beautifully through city traffic and sharp turns. One of the most impressive features of the Wagon R. Nothing much to say about that. Its still good.. after a year. Even at speeds above 120kmph everything feels quite under control (though I would have preferred stronger radials at such speeds). Maximum speed I have tried it 130kmph. It felt as if she wants to go faster and I am sure she can.

    8) LIGHTS:Initially I felt that the lights (headlamps) are quite good and would be more than sufficient. But gradually as I began making more highway trips and it used to get dark by the time I came back, I started feeling the need to have some better light. Who doesn’t want better visibility at night, right..? So I changed the stock headlights 60/55W to H4-100/90W Phillips along with a cut-out. It costed me Rs.600/- for the cut out and Rs.280/- for 2 H4 bulbs. The difference is surely noticeable. I also had to replace the front right turn signal lamp once.

    9) SUSPENSION:It is quite good. It absorbs most of the bumps quite effectively. No complains about it, however, it would have been better if thicker tyres were used.

    10) A/C and Heater:Cools/Warms quite fast. Nothing exceptional I would really appreciate some A/C vents near the back seats as well. Maybe I am asking too much, but that is something that all small car owners would really love to see.

NOTE: I had my Wagon R DUO serviced regularly without any delays. I did not use any modifications except for the cutout and new head lamps. I am planning to fit in a K&N Air Filter and will be using synthetic Engine oil from now on.

*I am very much satisfied with the overall performance of the Wagon R DUO. You can read the original review at:

    Wagon r lxi duo
    Aug 30, 2009 10:06 PM 5387 Views

This review is for those who are still undecided to buy a car. Well I bought wagon r lxi duo this year begining 05jan to be precise, I have all the praise for this car. First the good points,

Price of the vehicle and the comfortable driving space it offers is amazing. Ac works fantastic, superb blower, power steering is world best in this class. Now the cons,

Little noisy interiors , ie something always chatters in low speeds when vibrations are high in low speed , lpg mileage is low comparatively in cities , it might just fetch you 7 or 8 kmpl depending on driving skills , but on highway it is 12 plus and a pleasurable vehicle to drive.

But dont worry abt noise, when sony xplod system which I installed in my car is in action nothing else counts , my verdict if you dont own kg basin (and fight over it) , or a mill , or some motor company this is the car for you, a GOOD car for a regular office goer guy like you and me

    happy driving
