Maruti Suzuki Ritz VXi ABS BS IV Reviews

Ritz..fresh design,spacious and practical
Nov 22, 2009 11:59 AM

My family owns a santro and i10 and am looking or another small car for my own personal use.I want to buy a Maruti car only and Swift and ritz were the 2 options I looked at.

I went to Maruti dealers in Delhi.i.e DD Motors, Saya, Rana Motors to take a test drive of Ritz and Swift(both Petrol and Diesel).Swift offers a super ride quality.driving pleaure is unmatched in this segment.

It gives a heavy/solid feel of a car.not like a box on a set of 4 wheels like a wagon r, a star or i10 for that

matter. On the downside its interiors are cramped and it lacks in storage spaces in comparison to ritz.

Also as per the feedback of my friends its mileage is only 10-11 kmpl for petrol whereas ritz is expected to give around 13 kmpl(forget what maruti claims of 17.7.its rubbish.)why would any1 buy diesel cars if petrol starts giving this sort of mileage.

Now comes the ritz which is the heart of this review.

I test drove both petrol and diesel and altough diesel is more peppy than petrol but considering my usage and diesel engine's resale after a lakh km put me off. Also it is 1 lakh costly(including the interest amount I would need to pay on the loan). Its' break even would happen exacly after 50000 kms after which diesel engine would start asking for maintanence and resale would plumb.these are my personal views though.though I have seen many people going for diesel cars these days.ddis engine quite refined, thats for sure.but still in another 1-2 years we should get a proper feedback about them.

Ritz is a very spacious car.there are ample of storage options in the front though there is none at the rear.

Its interiors are better than swift and has a fresh look from the outisde.Initially I also didnt used to like its

rear look but once you start looking at it daily you will like it more than swift. Its quite comfortable and the tall boy design ensures cabin feel is quite spacious. Also it offers a better rear leg room than swift.60:40 rear folding swift is also an advantage.Another good thign about ritz is the colours option. There are some new swanky colours to choose from albiet white and silver fetch a better resale value and touching of a dent is quite easy:).but, but and there is always but.swift is swift.it doesnt match swift in terms of ride quality.i feel swift is for those who want a better driving pleasure and ritz for those who want a practical car.better mileage, spacious and good looking interiors and more over a fresh look and new car on the road.swift is quite common now and every second person is having it.but its a drivers car and a pleasure to drive.

I am yet to take a decision as to which one to buy.as I am waiting till december to buy the car.there maybe better discounts as generally companies look to phase out their model in the year end.

Ritz_amazing performance
Nov 17, 2009 03:41 PM

Got RITZ ZXi On 3rd Sep, 2009.....Color: Fire Brick Red, Overall, it is an excellent car. Remains stable even at 120kmph (like any other modern hatch). Has lots of space, and 3 ppl can easily fit in the rear seat.

The day I got the car and made 3 of my friends sit on the rear seat, one of ma friends said, "i've never sat so comfortably with 2 other ppl in a small car!".

Hats off to SUZUKI on this car! It has amazing headroom, and more knee room as compared to SWIFT, or any competition. i10 is not to be compared with the RITZ, please. Ritz gives a power of 85ps, which is amazing. No need of switching to 1st gear at all.

Literally u can start with the second gear! and even if u drive at low rpm, there are no vibrations. The A/C is superb. I have owned WagonR and ZEN both, but the a/c of RITZ, you need to check it out for yourself. It returned a mileage of overall 15 (i.e CITY as well as HIGHWAY). No doubt, this car is gonna rock, and afterall it is a SUZUKI, a MARUTI SUZUKI.(i guess that is enough to say it all)

Great deal for your hard earned money!!
Nov 10, 2009 10:48 PM

I have been driving this car for over 2months. Its a good overall performer. One thing I liked about the car is its great engine which is almost sound proof, good pick up, easy maneuverability, great mileage. Although until  first service the mileage was hardly around 10 kmpl in city limits with AC on, after first service it dramatically improved, its around 15.26kmpl in city with AC on and 18.12 on highway.

The visibility from inside is great although one finds little difficult while taking reverse. I feel brake is little hard. Great steering. Cabin quality is decent although Maruthis have used some cheap quality materials like FM antenna which broke on its own for no reason.

I dont know what prevents them from giving decent build quality of few items when they are collecting 5 lakhs for RITZ Vxi. That apart I think its real value for money and feel I made a wise decision by going for it especially PETROL version. If your budget is between 4 and 5 I would strongly recommend this car specially petrol one.

Ritz Vdi after 1100 KMs
Nov 06, 2009 06:58 PM

This is my first review. Boy, I am happy to write this as a proud owner of Ritz Vdi. There's a saying that one won't be fired for selecting an IBM. Similarly, in India you can't go wrong with a Maruti. But the relevant question here is that does Ritz have its own strengths apart from deriving the strengths from Maruti as a reliable brand.

I have been talking about it at office so much so that my colleagues disperse whenever they see me coming:-)

Fuel consumption figures: All city(Chennai) driving - 15.8 KMPL and 18.83 KMPL on highways at average speed of 100 KMPH

Driveability in City:

Hats off to this Fiat 1.3 engine. In 2nd gear, I can drive from 10 KMPH to 60 KMPH. In fact, there is so much torque on offer that I can start from standstill in 2nd gear. The third gear speed band starts from 20 KMPH to 85 KMPH. 4th gear from 35 KMPH to 100 and 5th is an overdrive that can be slotted at 60 KMPH.

So, don't worry about frequent gear changes and thereby getting knee aches due to frequent clutch usage. In fact, even if you have to you won't get knee aches as clutch is very close to petrol engine's light ness. Also, short gear throws make life easy. The gear throws are shorter than i10.

Handling:

As this shares Swift's platform, obviously the handling genes have been passed on. All the auto journals claimed that Ritz's handling was close to that of Swift's, which I completely agree. Despite its tall build, it doesn't lose its track during lane changes or cornering at say 70 KMPH. I tried it once and the car was very sure footed. Add ABS to this and the safety of your beloved family is assured.

Interiors:

If you enter the car for the first time, you will fall in love due to the sheer expanse of the dash. I really have to stretch to touch the front windscreen sitting inside and I am 6' 2" tall.  That's how deep the dash board is. All the controls fall into your hands. The interiors look fresh and youthful with the console mounted gear level adding to the freshness and youthfulness. The plastic quality of door panels could have been better along with the design and size of the arm rests. The driving position is tall and that really helps.

Space:

Space for Driver and co passenger is ample. Head room and shoulder room all around the car is plenty and remember I am 6 footer. In Hyundai i10, my elbow will hit the door if I have to steer the wheel towards right. In Ritz, there is at least 3 inches of space between my elbow and the door. While I am driving, if a 6 footer has to sit behind me, then it won't be all that comfortable though it accommodates. Also, three people in the rear will be a squeeze.

Exterior and looks:

This topic is debatable and subjective and totally depends on the personality. First, let me tell you what I liked about the design and later will address the criticism.

I like the fusion in the design. It is European front on and Japanese in the rear. The split Audi type Grille caught my eye the first time I looked at it. The sides doors were plain with minimal curves to offset the aggressive front and rear design. For me, Ritz has a character a la Swift.

At few places, I read that it looks like a Swift. Then we can say new Palio front on looks like new Fiesta and Indica Vista's rear looks like Ford Fusion's rear. In no angle, I could find the traces of Swift. Secondly, the rear design is yet to sick-in. People are only used to bulgy rears. I find nothing wrong in that in terms of creativity. In fact, I am sure other manufacturers will follow suit. And this unconventional design will grow on people in no time. Remember how Santro was criticized for its looks in 1998.

I have also noticed couple of practical utilities with this design. Firstly, if you notice the front bumper, it is not a straight line from tyre to tyre. If you place a huge sheet of metal in front of the car, the bumper covering the grille will be parallel to the sheet whereas, the thereafter the bumper forms an acute angle with the sheet meaning the bumper at the ends recedes towards the tyres. This design will save pedestrians walking on the side-walks and also prevents from scratches at the edges especially by two wheelers who maneuver in traffic. Secondly, the rear end of the car is slightly narrower than the front and hence it is enough if you look for space for the front of the car to get in and this will also prevent the car from scratches from the enthusiastic lot.

Overall, Ritz is a bit of everything. Maruti wanted to attract family car buyers without compromising on driving fun.

Ritz ZXI Test Drive feedback
Oct 25, 2009 11:36 AM

Disclaimer..... This review is not on the vehicle in total, but only seeking your comments on my query.

I am 6.1ft tall and planning to buy a petrol car in Bangalore for a onroad price between 5-6lacs. I have shortlsted the Ritz petrol ZXI, i10 Sportz and Chervolet UVA-LT versions.

I am basically inclined towards the Ritz. I took a test drive and found the pickup with AC quite good, powerstering very easy, quite good in absorbing potholes and speedbreakers.

However I started getting ankle pain on both my legs while operating the pedals just after about 6 kms of test driving in slow traffic conditions.

I tried adjusting the seat hieght and distance, however nothing was givng me comfort. Would like to know if all Ritz owners out there experienced anything like this. Pls note my height is 6.1ft and not sure if that is any factor. One factor for sure is the pedal are not deep inside under the dash and suspect that could be a reason. Your response will be highly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Beautiful car
Oct 23, 2009 10:17 PM

Hi, I bought my ritz ldi on 29th of july and has completed 3500 kms so far. and this being my first car has only one concern, how am I gonna adjuste t to other cars in a dire situation.

well frankly, this is one of the most enhanch=ing expeirence on this new hatchback. I was initially tempted by A star but felt my bulit will make me drive form the rear seat.

then when I saw ritz on road I fell in absolute awe! there hav been many criticism about its rear look, but trust me if you see it as a sports car its a beauty!

it gives you a stand out in the crowd, in fact the rear "dent:" as people call it is a blessing when you get those extra inches while you back the car.and trust me that has given me confidence of reversing my car just by looking in my side mirror!(remember I am a new driver)thats incredible isnt it!

and I always had a hate towards indicas w hile boarding them as taxis.they gave me a feel of old trucks.and this gave me an initial reservations about the diesel one.but going by words of the dealer, research and my hands on feedback it is a marvel. my uncle's accent and swift(petrol) gives the same start up sound.

the latest DDIS much fine tuned then swift and is miles ahhead of vista.

the only crunching part is the gear as it looks stuck at times but has now gone easy with time .

and moreover my drive to my office is 12 kms on a highway(dwarka, new delhi) the fun of racing and manouvering the machine is great, it is so easy to make your way to office amongst the lacks who drive to gurgaon s(techies and BPO guys in a lot)every morning is great.it takes me precisely 10 mins to cross the distance without fearing any traffic load.

My Black Beauty.......
Oct 15, 2009 12:29 AM

I see 60 users before me have given their detailed opinion about the car, so I won’t elaborate it instead I will keep it short and try to highlight the points. On 5th gear you can drive it at 25 kmph too.. and also turning 270 degrees in round-abouts (gol-chakkars) on 3rd gear is also an easy task. Maruti doesnot fit gear lock as their official spare part supplier MINDA does not have a gear lock for Ritz yet ! The dealer (APRA Auto) gave me free accessories like – mud flaps, door visors, floor mats, black-blue seat covers & steering cover.

Only thing I purchased from outside was the Gear Lock AUTOCOP from outside. It cost me 1150/-. I did my mileage check today using full tank to full tank method.. and I got a figure of 14 kmpl. (335 kms in 24 lts) This is purely in the city traffic and with no AC. As per the Maruti Sales guy, the mileage is expected to improve after 3rd service. I will happy if I get above 15.

However, I follow the instructions by the Sales guy and do not exceed 60 kmph while driving. Sometimes it’s funny when the auto richskaw overtakes you on the road. Anyways, I will take revenge after I finish 1000 kms LOLZ However, 1 thing could have been done better was if Maruti provided Day-Night adjustable mirror. I like the feature, where the doors gets auto-locked when you cross 25 kmph while driving. The 5th door is also centrally locked, there is no lever under the driver’s seat to open the boot-space on the back. It has only 1 lever to open the fue

5000 Kms done... amazing machine
Oct 07, 2009 06:04 PM

Read enough of reviews, did a lot of research and took a lot of test drives before deciding on the Ritz. I test drove the wagonR, i10, getz, and the swift, and finally decided on the Ritz for its comfort, space, fresh new looks, price and of course maruti brand name and service backup.

Some people may not like the looks, but it is really nice. the front is really huge, gives a big car feel and the back is lil like the new Honda-CRV.( try and notice it)

Swift is anyday better ride quality(of course Ritz is not bad), but Ritz wins out and out on milage, space and comfort.

I bought the Ritz LXi petrol on July 1st, and have done 5000kms already. Almost 50-50 of city and highway. Delivery was lil before than normal waiting period, Sai service was quite good to deal with. No complaints from the dealer or the car yet.

Sitting inside the car with the family and you don’t feel claustrophobic at all.

There is enough of legroom even for the back seat. The headroom is amazing. The big dashboard makes you feel like a Honda civic.

The gear box is like butter. Only, one may need a lil while getting used to the reverse gear. The gear shift is perfectly placed.

AC cooling is pretty good. I hardly turn the blower more than 1 in city traffic.(I have 3M sun film on my windows).

Body roll is quite evident on low speed turns, not as much on higher speeds.

The machine responds accurately to every push of the pedal and the electronic power steering is just precise.

The immobilizer is the perfect device for your peace of mind. You may park it anywhere, and no one can start your car and drive it.(Of course anyone can break the glasses or tow the car.)

The luggage space is a bit less, but won’t actually matter much.

While picking up the car, just remember a Teflon coat or music system may not be as important as an 3 years extended warranty. It really covers a lot of parts for a total of 5 years( the manufacturer provides 2 years warranty anyways).

I also got the fixed type artificial-leather seat covers done, so that the original seats remain intact for years.

Now the mileage, Oh… amazing. It actually improves as you drive. In the first 1000kms, I got around 12.8km/l in city with AC. And highway 15.4 km/l with AC.( I always drive with AC… zero fatigue). Now recently my trip to Goa, I took the NH4 till Nipani and then the Ajra- Amboli road. Did the entire trip with 2 halts. The mileage was 18.3km/l with AC. And my city mileage is 13.9km/l with AC. I calculated with the full tank to full tank formula.

Power and pickup is amazing, though not tried it’s full capabilities, still I got enough whenever I needed.

For best mileage and control, I drive at 80-90 kmph on highways. I have done a max speed of upto 115 kmph, cud have done more, as the car is really capable of much more, but driving in limits is the best option for everyone’s safety.

For this price, I wouldn't have got a better car in this segment.

Makes driving a pleasure despite heavy traffic
Sep 30, 2009 06:18 PM

For someone like myself who used a Wagon R for 6 years, the decision to buy a new car was tough. After a lot of research and intercation with people from the industry, the following emerged:

  1. Technology wise the K Series engine is state-of-the art.

  2. Opt for a vehicle from Maruti Suzuki.

  3. Choose between Swift, Zen Estillo, A-star and RitZ

The above narrowed down the choice to: A-Star and RitZ. A new type of engine and a recently launched car brought forth numerous apprehensions.

As a proud owner of a RitZ, I recommend the car without any hesitation. The purchase would not cause any regrets at all. Driving turns into a pleasure even in peak hours. Given the Delhi climate, the AC is super effective. Ignore the outside look / shape in favour of all the other plusses. The rear passengers get comfortable leg room. The dicky has more than enough storage space.

Fun drive, great value
Sep 24, 2009 04:10 PM

I researched(including reading very useful reviews here) for almost an year before I finally took the plunge to buy my first car. Got delivery of Ritz Vxi around mid-July from Spectra Motors. It cost me 4.88 lacs on-road Mumbai, including octroi. Have driven 2500 km so far and am quite happy with my decision.

The car is sprightly and easy to handle in choc-a-bloc city traffic. On the highway too, it does not lose composure and responds well to the press of the pedal even at speeds above 100 km/hr. I have driven it up to 130 kmph and it still had a lot of grunt to go higher. When not worried about guzzling gas, you can comfortably speed up to 60-70 kmph on second gear or 100 on third. However, cornering ability is not as good as Swift due to its taller stance and feels more composed on straight drives. Have driven swift also for a few months. Ritz is far more smooth with a much more linear torque distribution and pick up. But the swift makes up with better driveability on highways and easier cornering at high speeds.

On the mileage front, however, Ritz scores well above. My brother's swift used to return 11 km in Bangalore traffic after the run-in period. The Ritz, on the other hand, ran 11.95 km to every litre in the last two tests(top up method) in Mumbai traffic, which seems much worse than Bangalore. Both measures with AC always on. Without no AC, Ritz gave me 14 km/litre in one test.

Interior space in Ritz and Swift is almost the same in front seat. Though the driving stance is slightly better for swift. But rear space for ritz is way better than the claustrophobic swift. That was an important reason for my decision to go for the ritz instead of the swift as ingress and egress alongwith the drive is much more comfortable in the ritz, which was a major plus for me since it provides for a comfortable rear seat ride for my parents.

As I said earlier, the mileage for swift is also lower and I had heard horror stories here about some owners getting just 8-9 km. That was absolutely unacceptable for me. How much ever the drive quality of the swift may be better than the Ritz.

I am just hoping the 11.95 I am getting, rises a bit more(given the claims Maruti made) by the time I complete 5k km. But even if it doesn't, it is acceptable, even if not as great as the claims. Is anybody of you getting better mileage, would appreciate your views on this.

Also, Maruti is in the process of changing over to K series engines for all its models. Today only, they stopped production of the SX4 to relaunch it in a few weeks. Swift is also expected to get a new K series engine by January with perhaps 100 bhp instead of the current 87 to differentiate it from the ritz and target it at pure driving enthusiasts.

On top of this, the newer K series engine will obviously stay in the market for longer(at least 8-10) years and will have better resale value. So for me the Ritz had all the pluses and made a clear choice rather than the old(though still funky) G-series esteem engine in the swift.

I had also looked at the i10, which felt overpriced despite a 30k discount. On-road Mumbai price was 4.04 lakhs for era model with 1.1 litre engine and front power windows, 4.34 lakhs for magna with 1.2 litre kappa engine and four power windows. Both post discount. Even at this price, the car didn't make sense as it is much smaller than the ritz and doesn't offer any exceptional driving pleasure as well. The interiors though are much neater and better crafted. You have to admit, the workmanship is certainly better than Marutis. But not good enough to demand such a high price. And then Ritz has almost made up for these shortfalls. Plastics used are pretty neat and nice. The storage space on the dash(top) is also VERY useful. I use it to keep change that comes in handy when paying for parking or using the Bandra-Worli sea link. Don't have to take off seat belts and then twist and bend to reach for the wallet. Simply keep some money in the stowage.

Further, Ritz and Swift have 14 inch wheels, while i10 still sells with the 13 inch wheels(i think these are used in the santro too). So road grip is not that good. The i10 engine, however, is very smooth and responsive, but frankly the space and the price are the big deterrants. It doesn't feel any bigger than the santro.

And then the introduction of the kappa engine in the same old i10 body is really disappointing. There were people who bought the magna with the 1.1 litre engine at the same premium over the era only as recently as an year or so before. They would be really disappointed, specially because i10 claims the kappa engine is much better in terms of power and mileage. I felt this was gross injustice by the company, which is unable to price its products appropriately and the customers are bearing the brunt.

The Wagon-R is now due for an overhaul with the k series engine. Wonder how long the Santro will run. Hyundai doesn't seem to have learnt a lesson and have just facelifted the Santro with some minor interior tweaks. I think the company will be forced to use the irde(era) engine in santro soon to compete with maruti. Though this is just my opinion or you could also call it speculation if you are a die hard Hyundai/Santro fan, I felt buying a Hyundai was not a good long term bet, specially because I wanted to extract every penny of value out of the money spent. And then Hyundai mileage and maintenence are not as good as Maruti.

So i10 did not make sense for me. And must add here that even though I have read several i10 and ritz/swift comparisons, don't think they are in the same league with the Marutis way ahead in terms of overall performance and space.

Back to the Ritz, have only done two highway drives so far, one to Pune where I got 16 km/litre with mostly AC driving.

The drive quality is excellent. Just hope it remains like this for years to come.

Gears are the same as the swift and are smooth enough, though feel slightly notchy in comparison with the Hyundais. But they are reasonably good and can't really complain much except for the reverse gear, which needs a lot of getting used to. Getting on to reverse gear, really requires precision and expertise with the Ritz. But I have kind of got used to it, and know how far exactly to push to place the gear. It gets easier with time. Hyundais are much better on this front.

Looks wise, the Ritz looks fresh and sober from the front though the back is not that great. But can live with it because i10 was no great looker either. Swift is really funky but it has other drawbacks.

The headroom is fantastic in Ritz, compared with both i10 and Swift.

AC is good in all three.

Well, I have already gone quite long. But just wanted to do my bit since I have gained a lot from your reviews. Hope you like my first review. Do let me know if you want to know anything about the car. Am not too tech savvy, but will try to place pictures soon. And hopefully, write more updates as I drive more.

Delhi India
Good car with cons
Sep 22, 2009 09:40 PM

After a lot of R & D in 1200-1300 CC car Segment , I got my Ritz vxi on Sept, 09 from Ghaziabad. The car is having a good power in a 1200cc class . No engine noise. So far I have completed 600KM. I felt that avg is around 12-13 in Delhi with Ac. I have fitted JVC Music system-good sound .here I would like to have you attention for some probelms, which I observed as an engineer -

(1) Back Gear Shift

(2) Noise when pressing the Break (No so often)

(3) rear View during reversing the car.

(4) In a long Drive, I felt pain in my right leg , due to pressing the Acceelator as the Accltr position is in 70-80 degree from the bottom & u have to continue pressing the Acceelator for speeding the car.Which results the pain in the right leg . It means the Acceelator position is not designed ergonomically as it is other cars like Hyndui , Honda City etc. Where the Acceelator position is good. One should consider this matter.

In a test drive , you can not find this.

(5)I have fitted auto Cop Gear Lock in my ritz.what I have seen that the gear lock in not properly fitted as gear positioning is higher . maruti should recoomand the gear lock & make a provisions in car for gear locks. because autocop guy faced probelms to fitting this lock.

except above this is nice car in small segment.

would somebody suggest me abt that above probs.

Booked mty Ritz
Sep 21, 2009 01:33 PM

I have booked my Ritz (VDI) and it will be delivered this weekend :). This is my first car that I am buying after too many research on different cars.

First I planned to buy Swift, Since Ritz has the same engine as Swift and also it has got a new design which is very new in the market. Its a head turner car.. since there are not many cars on road... During the test drive I was satisfied with the performance of the car and the head space it has, finally decided to book that car and get it on Dussera.

But one strange thing I came to know from the dealer is that, if I put my music system somewhere out side then the electrical wiring and engine warranty will get elapsed... If any problem occurred in the car engine during the warranty period then it will not be covered under warranty .. since I have fixed music system from outside!!!!... it was very strange since I am buying the car for the first time. Can some one suggest me on this.. I dont know weather I have to go for extended warranty or not..

Impressive Ritz
Sep 17, 2009 01:00 AM

Well I was the first one to take the test drive in the show room I went to on the launch day. The moment I got in the car it felt good, there was hardly any engine noise had to really listen hard to know whether it was start or off. I took it slowly to the road and the 85ps motor came to life instantly.

As I hit a bad road patch where ever other car was slow, I could go fast it was amazing. There was not even a sound to be heard, then I went to 90kmspeed in the second gear an the car still did not shake, it was too good an engine.

After that I drove it with a light foot an the car was drivable in 5th gear as low as 10km/ph speed and I could go from there to 60km speed with out coming a gear down , the gear box is also amazing. There is enough room in the car for five people an a sixth one could easily be fit in. Ritz has a new feeling and an extremely stunning good looker. Ten out of ten. Please I request each one of u reading this please do take a test drive

Ritz... A decent Deal
Sep 13, 2009 06:31 PM

This would be my first review here. I purchased a Ritz VDI(ABS) from Chowgule Industries in Goa. I had the I20, Fiat Punto, and Swift in my mind. I20 was out due to budget restrictions. Talking about Fiat Punto : I have noticed a weired vibration in the engine, even when idleing (This was for their test drive vehicle) added to it the cabin was not fully sound and vibration insulated, so Punto was out. By this time I have made up my mind for Swift.. (Even I knew it was too common on the roads)

When I had gone to see swift I was introduced to Ritz. Atfirst I did not like the back of Ritz (Its like a well designed car and they just slashed the back :( ) I liked to performance. It had exceeded my expectations. I fell in love with that car that I ended up buying it.

However theres a rattleing noise on the right and the left coloum. Upon contacting Maruti the adviser said that such rattleing sound is common in Maruti vehicles(This is my first Maruti vehicle). So I would really not know. Appart from this Rattleing sound its a good buy.

Fuel consumption: I get about 18kmpl with AC on.

Drive : When you drive this vehicle, you feel like you are driving a SUV or something.

I hope this review was useful

Thank you

Ritz vxi - 2 months / 1800 Kms Ownership review
Sep 13, 2009 02:46 PM

After a lot of research / comparative studies and analysis and a long wait for the Jazz, which unfortunately was priced beyond my budget I finally settled for the all New Maruti Suzuki Ritz VXI(Petrol) variant, I booked my car from Varum Motors in Begumpet Hyderabad in June end and had to wait for a full 4 weeks to get my first car - the Blue Blaze ritz petrol.

What clinched the decision for a ritz over the other cars(I was looking only for a petrol car) I considered was -

More space than the i10(1200 cc variant) plus much better looks a great road presence a more refined powerful and an efficient engine,

the i20 is too expensive and I really didnt see the need for Airbags / ABS and other frills as most of my driving would be limited to city driving where you hardly cross 60 Kmph, also the fuel efficiency was not acceptable

the swift was too common and as I was looking for a petrol car I went with maruti's claim of providing a superior K12M engine, on top of that the ritz felt like a more practical car with more space inside the car including the rear seats where swift has a problem.

Jazz was my dream car for which I waited till June, but it was way beyond my budget which I was ready to stretch only till upto 7 lac for a premium hatch.

The others around this segment like the grande punto or the fabia or the chevrolet UVA etc were not seriously considered as post sales service and fuel efficiency were among my top priorities.

And to top it all for me Japanese engineering is any day better than its Korean Counterparts or American brands, though germans are the best:), so maybe I am a bit biased towards the Hondas / Toyotas or the Suzuki.

As far as looks are concerned I loved it the moment I saw it first, my wife had to look at it a few times to start liking it and by the time we finally decided to buy it she too was in love with the tall and significant road presence and the arrow shaped view when looked from the back at an angle:)

I was a bit disappointed at the fuel consumtion figures I got for the first couple of weeks, the traffic was bad from home to office with almost 20% drive time on first and second gear I got a mileage of 10+ a bit, but subsequently and after the first service with similar or even worse traffic conditions I am currently getting upto 13 KMPL in city which although below the claimed 15 is pretty good I feel. The driveability in city is pleasant and you can stay on 3rd gear at pretty low speeds without much trouble. The AC is very very effective even in hot and humid conditions I have never needed the full blower and for most times min blower speed is sufficient for 2 passengers on the fromt seat

I had an around 400 Km highway trip from Hyderabad to Nagarjuna sagar, which is a single lane highway for most of the part and around a 30 - 40 K m ghats type section, I could touch 130 Kmph effortlessly and coudnt risk trying to go above that given the condition and unpredictibility of highway, but the car was really stable even on cureves at quite high speeds(110 - 120 Kmph) with no steer or overdrive at all. the car was brilliant to drive. I got a mileage of 16KMPL on highway which I thought could be much better had it been a divided 4 lane highway.

all in all a great car to own and drive and reasonable to the pocket, I would give a big thumbs up to this car not just because I own it but it is rreally value for money at 4.78 lakhs ex showroom which cost me 5.2 including all standard accessories including a sony bluetooth / USB enabled music system, key less entry, seat covers and most of the other standard accesories.

PS - One of the comments I got asks me not to compare the Jazz to the Ritz, now being a Mech Engg. there is no way I cant compare, so here goes the comparison -

1)Both are japanese technologies

2) Engine Specs -

Jazz -

Number of Cylinders/ Layout - 4 Cylinders/ In-line

Fuel Type - Petrol

Cubic Capacity - 1198cc

Fuel Efficiency(ARAI tested) - 16.1 km/l

Maximum Power - 90 PS @ 6200 rpm

Maximum Torque - 112 Nm @ 4800 rpm

Ritz -Number of Cylinders/ Layout - 4 Cylinders/ In-line

Fuel Type - Petrol

Cubic Capacity - 1197cc

Fuel Efficiency(ARAI tested) - 17.1 km/l

Maximum Power - 85 PS @ 6000 rpm

Maximum Torque - 113 Nm @ 4500 rpm

Dont think there is much to choose here

3) Internal Cabin space - Comparable Ritz has a huge cabin though can be a bit smaller than the jazz but still comparable

4) Boot - Jazz wins hands down

5) Storage flexibility - Jazz wins hands down though Ritz also boasts of a 60:40 split seats

6) Price - Jazz costs 80% More:)

Bottom line - for people who say ritz and jazz are in different segments, I say those people define segments only by price range and it has nothing to do with engineering.

Though I wuld still have loved to own the Jazz but for me Ritz is comparable:)

Suzuki Ritz Vxi - feel good car
Sep 08, 2009 05:32 PM

:) I always wanted to buy a car which is known as ‘Indian’ car. Used M800 initially to get comfortable and used TATA Indica DLX for 3 years. Then its time to change the car. Swift Vdi was always on the top in the priority list. Though it is proven one on Indian roads, the waiting period and too many cars of the same variant on the roads worried me a little. Then seen the ad of Ritz...

The rear looks attracted me and of course the new series engine. After playing with couple of excel sheets which will help decide on Petrol Vs Diesel, :) , decided to go for petrol model. Of course, my average travel per day will be anywhere between 25-30 km only. Taken couple of test rides from Kondapur (Hyderabad) showroom. The demo car was always the Vdi model. I was impressed with the engine’s performance and the improved features (interior space, new dashboard). I like having many dials but here I have no choice (Ritz has all the controls displayed around the main dial behind the steering).

Had placed an order for 'Ritz Vxi (Glistening Grey') during mid-June. This particular color is new to Maruti and delayed by 3 weeks more than the other regular colors. The car was delivered in 3rd week of Aug. I have taken basic accessories from the showroom. Liked its performance in the first drive. Just completed 300 kms only as the traffic and roads around are not so encouraging.

The space inside is sufficient for 3 adults on the back. Power is just sufficient to pull it with 5 adults, I tried it in the heavy traffic of Hyd. I have been getting decent mileage before the I servicing is done, its around 12 kmpl. They promised me just above 15 in the city after sometime. As usual - the headlights and the horn are not that powerful :(. this could be improved by Maruti on all the cars I guess. Feel happy (no regrets) when some( or many!?) people around me appreciate the new looks of the car and the new color.

During this late rainy season, could not drive it on the highway...till now I could touch only 80km/hr on the city roads without much effort. 1200cc for such a car is decent power. I could feel the real pull when it is not loaded with 5 people. I think the new aerodynamic design helps to be fuel efficient, it is new emission standards compliant. I have not faced any issues with the car till now. Pickup is good, AC is powerful enough, though I have not tested with full load and more over it is the rainy season. I like having many dials but here I have no choice (Ritz has all the controls displayed around the main dial behind the steering).

I guess people who can appreciate the new design will be definitely appreciating the other good factors like new K-series fuel efficient engine, improved interiors (bigger, nicer dashboard), 60:40 split seat feature etc...

  • This is my very first review on the site. Hope to improve going forward.

I expect that my initial review would be helpful and my update to the same review after a month should make much more sense.

Happy and safe driving !!!

Ritz diesel vs petrol, finally came home ritz vdi
Aug 18, 2009 10:31 PM

I am a doctor by profession planning to buy a ritz finally after a long discussion..but slightly confused that which to buy diesel , mil 21 or petrol.mil 17.7...as I heard that diesel have more maintenance. after some time as engine goes older but when gone to deliver, they said no diff in main for a new diesel ddis engine.

My monthly running is 1000km and budget 4-5 laks., which can fit both....can any one suggest which one to buy for maintainance, mileage, power etc I m thinking that for diesel so that in future I can go for long drive if needed but slight hegitate that a diesel engine may create a problem in future, pl suggest me so that I can decide.....there is diff of 70000 rs between two, which I can afford but only confusion about future of engine , thanks a lot for reply

Ritz - Value for Money
Aug 16, 2009 05:38 PM

Two months ago, we almost finalized logan as our car. But on the way to showroom, we heard about Ritz launch and thought of having a look at it. After taking the test drive, I had to change my decision.

I bought Ritz VXI (fire brick red)from kozhikode showroom (26th June 2009).I booked it one month ago, and got it exactly after one month as they promised.

The color is very good, even though it looks weird in their brochure. The price details were as follows.ex showroom price - 4.3 lakhs. The dealer was not giving any goodies. So I had to buy things like mud flap, carpet, body cover, music player, etc.

All together, including registration, it cost me around 4.9 lakhs. So far we have driven around 1400 kms. We are getting mileage of around 18-20 kms/litre (normal petrol). From driving point of view, the car is excellent. very good control.

Pros:

  1. The waterfall model on which the gear lever is fitted is very nice.

  2. Good mileage

  3. Ample leg space at front and back.

  4. The A/C is also very good even at the lowest fan speed. You don't feel any difference in pick up when you switch it on or off.

Cons:

  1. The immediate front view is very limited.(I cant see what is there in 2-3 meters)

  2. VXI does not come with height adjustment

  3. The music player comes with ZXI does not support USB sticks.

  4. The exhaust has some foul smell sometimes. (similar to hydrogen sulphide)

  5. The fuel gauge design is very primitive. Even though the car is having a digital meter, its not showing the exact amount of fuel present.

RITZ - WILL MAKE THE REVOLUTION
Aug 01, 2009 10:56 PM

I used TATA indica DLG TURBO the most fuel efficient car but after 2 years I wanted to change but I wanted to go for diesel. I was in great confusion which one to go. Many suggested that SWIFT will be the right choice but I have to wait for 2 months but I do not want to wait, at last I heard that a new model from maruti call RITZ VDI is going to launch. I went to see the vehicle I loved at the first sight. I actually booked SWIFT VDI but I changed the mind for RITZ VDI.

At last I purchased RITZ VDI itsss exccelent I love it. Its great, good pickup, low engine noice and I had drived for 1800 kms till now the average in the city is around 14 with A/C and with out A/C around 16km but on the highways mileage is around 22km with out A/C and with A/C may be around 20Km/lit. Even though it is a new vehicle I got a good mileage.

The interiors are mind blowing but not comparable to GETZ and i10. I prefered maruti vehicle because we have lot of service centres and low maintainence as every body aware. The RITZ as such is good but maruti would have slightly improved by giving freebies.

When we drive the vehicle in congested roads its easy to move with out much hard work, we can turn the vehicle with ease in congested roads. on the highways ritz rules. the leg room is very good, when we sit in the vehicle we feel like sitting in a bigger vehicle like innova etc. If anybody thinks swift is better it may be but I likkkeeed RITZ iii loooveeeee it. Happy drving and happy ritzzzzzing
