Mahindra Xylo 2012 E8 ABS BSIII Reviews

Pls don't buy
Feb 10, 2012 11:25 AM 56712 Views

Unfortunately I bought Mahendra XyloD2 on 28/12/2011. From the day one I am faced with several problems.

Problem No.1:- Delay in delivery of the Vehicle. As usual Mahendra not keeping up promise.

Problem No.2:- I took the car for a long drive to Salem Ercot & the vehicle started shivering & it was extremely under powered.

I called the Mahendra with you Hamesha helpline after 1 ½ hours of struggling with call centre executive, he sent a technician to the spot. The technician said there is a problem with diesel pump & he raised the engine on for few minutes & said that the problem is resolved & I was happy.

I wasn't happy when I drove the car to Chennai because the problem was still there accompanied with vibration from gear shift & engine. I felt no longer to stay in the car. It was such a harsh vibration, never felt in my life. I somehow managed to drive the car back to Chennai & very next day I went to India Garage’s VST auto agency, velacherry on 23rd January 2012 at morning 11’o clock. They told me, it is a minor problem & asked me to wait for an hour or two. So I waited, as time pass by no answer came. I went & asked the supervisor. He said wait for an hour & I waited & waited until it was 5.45 PM.

They gave me a bill of Rs.100 & I eventually paid. They told me that problem is resolved. Very next day the same problem persisted. I went to service centre again on 27th January 2012. They told me there is a problem in fuel injection system &they gave me vehicle on 31st January & I was happy that the problem was over. After few days I found my vehicle pulling on right side when I drive. This problem was already told in the previous service & they charged me Rs.450 for wheel alignment. Now I called Mr. Praveen & told this. He said that he will get back to me, apart from this, there is also smaller complaints which are not attended. Right side driver door knobs not properly fitted. Rear side left passenger door peeling of on vibration plus insurance policy not yet reached. Loan schedule not yet reached.

To inquire about this to India garage sales person, she is always busy on other line. Now I feel like a looser by buying XYLO D2 TN20 BL 8451

I have spent so far Rs.2000, for service cost and up and down trip to service center with mental torture

Transmission Xylo
Feb 06, 2012 03:37 PM 55378 Views

100 to 5000 KM the vehicle was giving ultimate performance.

17.5 KM Mileage with A/C and good pick up [Tested in Madhura - Selam high way with 95 KM speed]

5000 KM changed the gear box due to minor issues in gear box.

Gear box replacement caused lot of issues.

Performance degraded dramatically.

Mileage dropped to 13 KM on the same route. [Madhura - Selam high way]

Pick up also decreased by 30%.

The vehicle is not able to get speed more than 100 KM and to achieve 100 KMPH engine has to run on very high RPM.

Reported the problem to Sireesh Auto at 6400 KM

Done some tuning in the clutch side.

Same problem continued.

10000 KM second free service done.

Performance was as bad as earlier.

10300 KM Break down - Jan 27 2012

Engine was rising but vehicle is not moving above 40 KM even in 4th gear.

Fixed the issue.

After 100 KM Again the problem was continuing. [Performance degradation / Pick up loss]

Done some fine tuning in Sireesh Auto Feb 04 2012:

Performance improved by 5%.

Pick up improved.

Major Issue present:

1 To achieve 100 KMPH the engine has to run on Very high RPM.

2 Still pick up is not matching with 93 BHP delivery.

3 Clutch alignment was not proper for 4300 KMs there is a chance the clutch may worn out.

Need to check this part.

In Short: The transmission part is NOT delivering the performance .Comparing to the vehicle purchase time the performance is degraded by 25to 30%

The same has led to a break down also.

Need to check the Transmission and regain the performance back to the original stage.

Note: The performance is degrading after a long run which needs more clutch operation [Example 1 hour City drive.]

Other issues:

Medium 1: Turn the steering to extreme right. The stearing is vibrating and making noise.

Medium 2: The steering become tight. [I understand it as design but some times very tight]

Minor 1 But repeating: Front right door is making sound on roads.

Minor 2: Parking break liver is not working properly. [Sometimes its acting as freely].

Minor 3: Combination switch has some problem. [Its not smooth transition between low to High

Worth to have a class
Jan 02, 2012 10:05 PM 54420 Views

I own a Xylo from last 6 months and I can tell you that I feel good when I drive it. Space is marvelous. Inside Stylish- as I have the top model. Speed wise also it is good in class.

Recently I drove it from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata and also cam back. I was not at all tired. On top speed also engine sound was not noisy. Mihindra could have spent some more money in providing good quality interiors.

Plastics used etc doesn't even match to a Nano standard, still overall mileage perspective it is too good.

Will recommend to go for it.

Long drive charriot
Sep 15, 2011 05:54 PM 53133 Views

I drove my friends car from Coimbatore to Hyderabad.  Initially I was bit circumspect about the vehicle and said I ill come by train but my friend wants me to drive since I was used to long drives.  To my surprise it was very good driving, may bit less of power and 4th and 5th gear has no big difference, but for that price you have to compromise a bit. it gives best in class mileage( around 15- 16 kmpl) and feature loaded.  Drive was smooth. I  strongly bet on xylo, if u want 8 seater with 90% comfort, 100% mileage, 85% leg space, 100% features and 80% handling and 65% safety( since no abs, airbags etc.) go for it. having said all that you should maintain it properly to get the best.

My experience with Xylo for the last 18 months
Sep 09, 2011 08:58 PM 56972 Views

I am compelled to write this review after reading a test drive report by a team bhpian. His comment that Mahindra has not dared to compare Xylo with an Innova is totally baseless. The brochures provided by the Coy clearly states the advantages of Xylo over Innova pointed out by a majority of auto journals. Any one can visit the sites of Overdrive. BS motoring etc. Next, to his comments on the brakes of Xylo. I have driven the vehicle(D2) for 18, 000 kms, mainly long drives (Trivandrum to Cochin, Trivandrum to Thirunelly in Wayanad, Trivandrum to Pondicherry etc.).

The brakes have never betrayed me and I find that it is better than other vehicles as the other day when I hit the brake hard on sighting a speed breaker, the vehicle following me ( a Ford Figo hit his brakes hard and took a detour to avoid a back end collision. Regarding its boat like swing, well it swings a bit but not to the extent the bhpian claims. I have never felt tired while driving the vehicle and I find that the noise levels are less than that of other vehicles. Regarding the vibration felt on the gear level, except Maruti Swift, I have felt the vibration on almost all Indian petrol and diesel vehicles. Many of my friends who have travelled in my vehicle has agreed that Xylo is more comfortable than Innova because of the better leg space. Autocar editor recently reported in a TV show that Innova is being redesigned to match the comfort provided by Xylo in the third row of seats. I received an email from Mahidra stating that Xylo has been ranked the No.1 MUV and ranked sixth among all cars (Toyota Innova ranked 10th) for powerful engine, low maintanance and leg space.

Xylo - Choicest Preference for a Family !
Sep 04, 2011 10:36 PM 48501 Views

Xylo- E4, our newest family member is one of the wisest decisions to possess. It has given us a whole new feel to travel together with all the comfort, pride. It is really and in true sense a 'Big Daddy' as it is very rightly tagged.. Each and every member in the family is very much elated to possess Xylo.

Possessing Xylo and driving it has given altogether a new meaning to own a vehicle and has made a lot of difference to our travel..be it in the city or on the NH (National Highway)..It is really an apt combination of blending very cute looks and the sturdiness and it is clear that a lot of consideration has been given while designing it and the compactness to create such an MPV ..a very comfortable vehicle for a family to travel together...It is family's pride possessing a Xylo.

Extremely happy for my MEagle E8
Jul 22, 2011 05:58 AM 29648 Views

This vehicle is more than value for money. The price quoted for the top end model is comparritively less in segment. The vehicle mamoth and interiors are nicely placed for my E8.

The qualit of plastic is not upto the mark but the features are very well for the vehicle. The highway and city run is really comfortable. Without my vehicles first servicing the milegae it gave was 12Km/L, so hoping to inccrease it after first 2 servicing.

Will post some more review with my odometer revolves more.

Summary - Very nice to buy in price for nice vehicle by Mahindra.

Mahindra Xylo Celebration BS III
Jul 02, 2011 07:31 PM 12370 Views

Here I am starting my experience of Mahindra Xylo Celebration BSIII.

Even though the delivery was slightly delayed we got delighted with the brand new color of our Xylo celebration, awesome.

First drive was a real great experience, felt like the king of roads. Everytime when the display shows about the mileage feel proud that we had taken a wise decision. Mostly in the yesterday's run we have got above 15 km/liter.

AC, Seating comfort and position needs an applause. Also it is unfortunate that the side views are getting blocked because of the big front glass frame especially while taking the turns. But its also add safety. Hope to get used to it in a couple of days.

We have not touched the full speed and our drive was only for 40 KM. The more reviews and service feedback will be posted shortly.

Xylo E4 experience
Jun 28, 2011 02:59 AM 14820 Views

I purchased my Xylo E4 in nov 09 and I have clocked approximately 16000 kms and have finished with the three free servicings. I have had a very good experience so far with the vehicle as far as usage is concerned but the service quality at the dealerships can be better. the level of knowledge to deal with specific problems especially electrical ones is poor at the service centers.the best part of the vehicle is the interior space.

I have two kids and they love traveling in the Xylo. even our dog fits in effortlessly and seems rather comfortable. I recently drove from Hyderabad to kochi (1350 kms) non stop and faced no issues at all. the engine feels most comfortable at speeds upto 110 km/hr but beyond that it requires effort. the issues that I have faced with the vehicle so far are as follows

  1. the gear shift was hard when shifting from the 1st to 2nd gear in the morning and the clutch was hard. the dealer fixed the problem under warranty and did a good job too.

  2. the AC takes a while to cool the cabin especially on hot days. seems like the compressor cuts off prematurely well before the cabin temperature is brought down to comfortable levels. even in the ac high mode the problem persists. since the dealer is totally clueless on the issue I would request any information on the aspect.

thanks.

Sad this is happening to a new vehicle
Jun 23, 2011 06:56 AM 14137 Views

I brought a Xylo when it first came out. I am one of those who booked the vehicle in the first two weeks. Now it has 48, 000 KM. My experience is that it has had constant problems one after the other, even from the beginning. Now it is AC coil, clutch, and engine sign is blinking as the vehicle is turned on.

I bought a new vehicle hoping to have a trouble free experience at least for the first five years.  How can I recommend a vehicle like this to others?

Hope the company can rectify the problems in the upcoming models.

I had purchased xylo in new series of 2009 and I am happy with it ,

But now I am facing problem in lock of driver side and when I used to take reverse gear then some tik tik sound appears form engine side which is not able to remove by engineer hand.

Otherwise it is v good vehicle in terms of luxurious, long route journey, good a.c , and all..

Thanks to mahindra for introducing XYLO, with more leg space[more than scorpio], less price tag compared to innova, scorpio etc.I am getting 13 to 14.5 kmpl out of my xylo e4, a/c is good with roof blowers. All a/c vehicles are fitted with tinted glass EXCEPT XYLO...

Jack rod is too small to use, which is provided with vehicle. In service matter just run 20000kms vehicle they advise DECARBONIZATION, which is not at all required.pls look these matter, satisfy the customer it boosts business, which you know very well...RTN K GURURAJA RAO

I have own xylo E4 model in june 2009 and it will b 2 yrs using xylo.I  am not finding any mileage problem, as it gives 13-14kmpl on highway nd it  also depends on our driving, so mileage may vary user to user, and we dnt  think about it while driving. It has got very nice space inside.I am  facing problem with cooling and sounding engine.

After servicing it is  smoother than any other diesel car but only for starting15 days, after  that engine starts sound. But still it may depend on handling.and considering cost good in move models.

I'm Iyengar

I have used the E8 Xylo six times from Mumbai to Bangalore, each time  morning to evening

I have used this E8 Mumbai Nagar, Aurangabad, ellora / ajantha  shirdi / Pandarpur  two times   absolutely no problem.

But One wierd thing / experience is black particles from brakes on  wheels  and   jerky braking  initially in the morning

Next  compared to  Scorpio I had, the front tyres  alignment  gets disturbed   very early, and the front tyres  wear faster . This is due inherent design of the  suspension /  Tie rods

Next, the  door unlocking  at drivers side is a problem. In Case   you try to open the  front drivers door   before  putting off the ignition, the front unlocking from inside becomes a  problem  and  one has to come out from the   left front door . Later it  resets itself .,

Chandigarh India
Very good car with some very petty problems
Feb 25, 2011 11:06 AM 21282 Views

Resident of Chandigarh which is close to himachal Pradesh and like any other Chandigarh person very fond of travelling in the hills. So had to buy vehicle with good ground clearance and good comfort too. Out of Innova and Mahindra why did I pick up a Xylo? Here are the reasons:

  1. Price : Top end Xylo is much more economical to buy than the top end Innova

2.  Mahindra has a wide service network in the interiors of himachal Pradesh

  1. Space inside the xylo is more, even in the third row

  2. The ground clearance and particularly the gradient clearance angle is much better. So I finally bought the xylo E8 in march 2009. Took it to some of the toughest terrains in himachal. Ill attach picture of my drive from Manali to Bijli mahadev which was comparable to a trip to Leh or even worse as I have been to Leh in a Santro with relative ease. It handled that terrain with relative ease and I was very impressed with the ability of the vehicle.

Highway Drive: Travel to Delhi often and if I drive around 80 or so I almost every time get a mileage of 15 kmpl. In a single tank fill I have driven from Chandigarh to delhi and back with a lot of travel with in delhi and still the mileage was 15.

The travel to chamba and kangra, and I am talking about the furthest points in Chamba…Bharmour, crossing khadamukh and some kucha roads leading to small hydro projects, got a mileage of around 12, as the road between khadamukh and bharmour is virtually non existant.

We  We work in the area of small hydro so often the car has to go to locations of these small hydro projects where the road means the hill has been cut and no tarmac. The Xylo has never given any problem. Infact we had some more people travelling with us in Innova and I was able to put a gap of 5 minutes in between us on the 4 km kutcha road which went to the village.

Now it has done over 35000 kms. Here are the 2 primary problems with the vehicle.

1.  The door rattle which primarily originates from the poor plastic locks on the door panel. This started with in first month of the car purchase and it bothers you almost every few weeks. Mahindra needs to look into this.

2.  The clutch issue. The clutch started giving problem around 32000 kms where in the pedal would  go down and would not come back. The dealer did acknowledge that number of vehicles have faced this problem. The part that was to be replaced was not available with any dealer or any supplier in the city. That’s bad but what is good is that it still did the Bharmour Chamba trip without any major hitch. The dealer did change the part under warranty once I was back from this place.  The other good thing is that even my wife drove the vehicle on that route without any hassle, talks well about its handling.

  1. The tube in the fog lamp is the other thing that had to be changed once around 30, 000 kms. Not much expenditure on maintenance except the regular service which costs around 2000 except once when my sister took the car for service. The dealer as usual fleeced her into getting the spray for decarbonization and some fuel additive which I never allow. Almost all the manufacturers need to look into this practice of their dealers where in they try to convince customers into getting these things done.

  2. The stereo needs to be given some additional power as the output is not adequate. For me it is actually very poor as I prefer listening to metal and rock. The base in the stereo is literally non existent. I think even a pre amp would suffice for people like us who want good output.

My advice is that before going for service open the booklet and look at the service details mentioned. It clearly says what needs to be checked and what needs to be changed.

There was one interesting thing that I saw as I had to get the vehicle serviced from a small service station of Mahindra in Himachal for the 35000 service. There was at least 1 inch thick layer of dust on the air filter which I don’t think is right since I get it checked and serviced every mentioned interval. This lead me to arrive at the conclusion that the city dealer had not cleaned the air filter in previous service. So I did get the filter changed again at 35000kms which is pretty normal considering the area I take my vehicle to.

My suggestion is buy this vehicle and suggestion to Mahindra is, put better panel locks in the door. Even tata cars don’t rattle that much. People tend to think that it’s the doors and poor quality body work. Don’t think spending another 50 rupees for better door panel locks would make much dent in your profits.

Ok now an update on the vehicle over 2.5 years down the line. Its done over 37500 kms.

The problems that were faced in the last 2500 kms.

The clutch pedal would not come back. So dealer had to change the delivery system (now they dont   use wires anymore for clutch the system is hydraulic and the hydraulics had leaked) The part was not available but was changed when they received it and changed it under warranty.

The clutch was still giving problems and took it back to dealer a couple of times which they "fixed". I think they tampered with the settings as with in next 2000 kms the pressure plates and clutch plate and bearing wore out.

Took it to dealer and he said ahh its not our fault you must be driving with foot on clutch. (Ive driven a maruti 800 for 80, 000kms and that did not have this problem when there is no foot support next to clutch in m800)

So the dealer wants 10, 000 to change these.

Check from the market the genuine mahindra pressure plate clutch plate costs 3200 and bearing 800. Total cost of 4000 and add to that a labour of 2200 quote by dealer staff, comes to 6200.

Called mahindra support and told them I want to speak to someone technical. Answer " sir you will get a call back with in 24 hours".

Waiting for the 24 hours to complete.

Update: 45000 kilometers. The tyres would have lasted another 5000 kms  but I changed them anyways because the bridgestones have become way too  hard and problematic. Changed to mrf wanderer. Which has its own  interesting story. Tyre was not available anywhere in mumbai or navi  mumbai hence called up local sales office followed by call to VP in  corporate office. Two days later 5 tires were delivered to the dealer in  vashi navi mumbai. Will post separate review for wanderer later.

Tried to contact mahindra again to find out if I can go for bigger tyres again no response. But MRF.. well these people are good at hiring staff. The VP took out more than 15 minutes to explain why I should not go for bigger tires and what problem I will face. I was buying only 5 tyres worth 25000 rupees and the VP is kind enough to take out time and explain the problems and consequences.

While changing tires the head told me specifically that the pivot arm  on the right needs to be changed. So after rough use of the vehicle.  Another expense of around 7-8000 rs. 5000 will be for the pivot arm and  2500 is expected for the bush kit which needs change anyways and if you  drive around the places like I do, you should be happy you are not  changing them every 10000 kms.

A rat had managed to enter the  car, donno from where and lead to chewing to some electrical cables.  Hence the power to stereo is gone and the come home lights dont work  now. Fixed stereo.

Very bad suv on the back of good scorpio
Jan 19, 2011 04:02 PM 23088 Views

Hi, in the last week of dec-2010, i drove my uncle's Xylo to south and Goa, we traveled from Kolhapur to Shimoga to Jog Falls to Karwar to Goa to Kolhapur.

It was about 1300 kms.And the vehicle before that was run only for 2000 kms.My experience with this vehicle was worst with regards to 3 aspects.

1.Mileage is only 11 kms (company claimed was around 14 to 15kms).

2.Very hard gear shifting especially for 3rd gear shifting with vibration to hand.

3.Not so exciting pick-up when driving in 3rd to 5th gear with no substantial difference for 4th and 5th gear.Further door open switches at inner side of door are typical to Indian manufacture.

No boot space for keeping luggage. 2nd row seat is very awkward and not so easy to fold and unfold when required, making it very horrible experience for last row passengers.

So all all not meeting the expectation if you want to have that pleasure go for either TATA SAFARI or HONDA CRV or TOYOTA INNOVA.

E8 ABS -3 year Review updated from 4 month review
Nov 26, 2010 02:06 PM 22858 Views

It's 3 years since I have been driving my Xylo. And really looking at the interior or exterior you cant say it is a 3 year old car. I had done a deal with my dealer to give me discount on Stanly leather interiors so the landed price along with roof carrier and front and back bumper was at 10.5 L (also inclusive of the shield extended warranty).

At that price it has been a steal. I have now driven 19000 KM - Done some excellent trips from Bangalore to Goa, Chennai, Wynad, Ooty and Rameshwaram. Kids love to be in the car. The Windows are so big that you feel you are a part of the scene outside.

On our way to Goa we stopped on a sugarcane field and the farmer gave us freshly cut sugarcane. Stopping on the Rameshwaram bridge to get pictures with hair flying.

These are memories and images that can be felt only on a long drive.

And what better vehicle than a Xylo. It's spacious, comfortable, safe and reliable. Never a hitch on a long drive.

The only thing I needed to replace is my battery. I have been regular with maintenance, every 6 months whether mileage requires it or not.

Even driving in and around Bangalore most vehicles will give way to a large Xylo.

And it does climb the pavement when you want to overtake from the side in a traffic jam. With large water puddles and water logging on one side of the road, in Bangalore rains I never fear taking the car on the deep side of the puddle while most vehicles are skirting it.

Maintenance has been low, 2.5 K each service ( all in all 10-15 K in 3 years)

I would sincerely recommend it.

Some people also talk about whether to go for the low end vehicle or the high end. I always recommend the high end. My brother used to work for Telco at the Indica plant he told me that the best parts from the best manufacturers always go to the high end vehicle. So the lower end will get the parts from the most dodgy supplier. Because of a large number of parts required a car company will have a diversified base of suppliers. And all supplier's quality is not the same.

p.s. hav'ent yet changed the speakers yet. (see below)

4 Month Review

--------------------

There are enough reviews so I wont go into the obvious space, interiors etc.

Just my experience.

Interiors (Xylo woners cant avoid this

------------------------------------------------------

I have traveled with 4 adults 4 kids aged - 4 -11 years on a split

mid row (with the handles up, 2 small kids can easily sit on each seat)

on short trips, no cribs from the kids.

Luggage space

----------------------

I was aware of the luggage issue so have fixed up a roof carrier, but

have not had the chance to use it since 3 small( aircraft cabin bags)

can fit at the back and that was enough for the 2 day trip we went for.

Music system

---------------------

The music system is just about OK - cannot compare to the Pioneer

I have on my Maruti Swift that I bought.

My brother who is a music freak told me that I needed to replace

the speakers, but I am avoiding till date.

The USB stick will stall if the music system gets on and off (i.e. on each

engine start of the vehicle). The trick is to switch off the music system

each time before you stop the vehicle. Otherwise pull out the USB stick and put it back.

It always starts from the first song on the stick (and not the one u were listening to)

Gear shift

---------------

Another issue was that the gear gets stuck in the morning but the trick is to pump the clutch a few times after start before putting into gear. But this is Mahindra - they started their vehicles with Tractors

so if u are used to the Hundyei or Maruti swifts gear shifts, better build some muscles :-)

Maintenance

-----------------

Used to have a Scorpio (sold 3 years ago) and the decision to go for the Xylo was the excellent service

as well as the low maintenance and spare parts strategy of Xylo.

I know a lot of cars (like Skoda) where the spare parts are so expensive that the non genuine v/s

genuine part has a 400% difference.

Not so either for both Maruti or Mahindra and that does go a long way in keeping your maintenance bills low.

Mileage

-----------

Normally get 9-10 KM per litre ( Tank full to tank full - past 3000 Kms)

On a long highway trip I was able to get 13 KM per litre.

Safety

---------

No issues with speed or braking ( I have ABS).

Did get some stupid road drivers on the highway so did have to brake hard at 100 KMPH,

no issues.

You do feel safe with the family having the air bags and other safety ging-bang.

I am scared to drive my small car with the family now since it feels so safe

in my elephant :-)

No other issues to report, all systems were working and the only complaint I had

for the first service was the gearshift ( which is now OK with the pumping)

Overall I love the drive and the kids love the interiors, I wish Mahindra gave a roof mounted screen along with a better music system connected to it in the highest end of Xylo.

Cheers

Sanjay
