Hyundai Accent DLS Reviews

Before you buy an Accent
Sep 24, 2009 02:08 PM 13255 Views

The process of selecting a car is probably as exciting as the prospecting of owning one. Surely since you wont spend lakhs of rupees every other day, its a thing most of us decide upon after thorough inspection and survey. When I bought my Swift two years back, I had searched through all of mouthshut and other sites to read reviews of people who have already owned the car rather than believe on what the dealer tells you. I am glad I made the perfect choice.

Its now been months together that I have been trying to shortlist a new car. I had been too tempted by the Accent for the pride of owning a Sedan. The others in contention for me were - the Dzire, SX4, Verna amongst the sedans, and Ritz, A Star amongst the hatches. Yes, I still considered the hatchbacks as they are some great offerings as I found out.

I discarded the Dzire as I already own a Swift. The SX4 and Verna tought good, are too big for me! They look monsterous and would be a headache to maintain them - not to forget the parking troubles and drivabiity. The Accent seemed the obvious choice as it looked very very sleek and sophisticated, priced well below the competitors.

The one thing that always bothered me was that the Accent is a dated product and very probable that Hyundai discontinued it or at least upgraded it with the new norms due soon. I still was willing to overlook it as I read some great reviews for it here. I took a test drive and here is what I found out.

I would first talk of the pluses. As soon as I put my eyes on it, I was bowled over buy its majestic and elite look in its champagne gold colors. It looks awesome. The interior provided quite good leg space. The drive was good in one aspect - that the pot holes are absolutely negated by this car. It rides smooth without a hitch. But that was about it.

The first flaw I found in the car was that the car just doesnt have any power in the second gear! It was a very sluggish engine. Each time I came across a breaker, I had to go down to the first gear to pick up the car! Yes, at higher speeds beyond the 3rd/4th gears the car has no problems. But its second gear pickup was a total disappointment! Maybe because I am used to a Maruti - I never really need to go to the first gear at all after the initial startup!

The second issue was the seats. The seats of the car are quite hard compared to those of the Maruti stable. Also, the placement of the rear seats is very erect rather than a tilted slanting backrest. Only after a 10 minute drive I felt the strain.

The other issue with the car was its horn. The horn is placed in the centre of the steering wheel and it is so so hard to sound that you need to take your hand off the rim and explicitly make an effort to blow the horn with all your force of your palm! It was extremely inconvenient.

The interiors of the car are nothing to talk about - they are very basic and dated.

Besides this, I would end on a good note for the car - its drive is quite easy for a sedan. I had expected it to be difficult to handle being a big car. But it provides quite good view at the rear and sides, and also its turns and cuts are easy to manouver.

To sum it up, I had read at many places that buy the Accent with your eyes closed. I would say you rather not. Do have a look at the options for sure. If you wish to own a sedan just for the name of it, yes its a good choice considering its pricing. But I would rather go in for a hatch like the Ritz or A Star - believe me, they are far better products in their technology, comfort and ownership - just that they are hatches. They are far superior as products to the Accent.

Please take note: I find some people reacting offensively to the review. Please keep in mind that its your opinion to find the review useful or not. I am sure there are many people like me who are in dilema whether to buy their first Sedan or to go in for a hatchback still. The review is meant to help them and I am sure they wont find it pointless. Its quite expected for certain section of the people to react in agitated manner being an Accent owner. And that is the main problem. All reviews I read here were from Accent owners who willingly or unwillingly tend to get biased quite naturally for their owned product. Such reviews can be quite misleading and for someone in process of buying a car, I think he deserves to know both sides of the coin.

Value for Money
Aug 24, 2009 03:30 AM 11023 Views

I previously Owned an Opel Astra which is a wonderful car. Due to maintainence and lack of service stations I decided to purchase another Sedan. I was looking between swift Dzire, Logan, Ford Icon, Accent, Esteem. I went through the reviews for all these vehicles and found a lot of Corns about Ford Icon's after sales service and the market value for it.

Logan looks like a Box, used for public transport. Reviews on Accent was very good. I narrowed down to Accent and decided to go for a test drive. I went to Advaiath hyundai and the sales person was not promoting the sales of accent at all. I inquired about accent and its mileage. he says that it gives 10 in city. I was Ok with the mileage.

I test drove it and I loved it. I went to a nearest dealer and test drove a used Accent which was brand new, well maintained. I test drove it and found no difference between a new and used car. I decided to buy the Used Accent car and I did it atlast. I was very curious to check the mileage, so I filled the tank to full and drove for 55 kms in bangalore city traffic 10kms with Ac On and 45 kms with Ac off. got to fuel station and filled tank again full which was 4.61 lts...55/4.61 = 11.9km per litre.

That was a Great Mileage to get 11.9 wheras my opel car used to give me 8km/ltr. I was very happy about the mileage. Let me say this the control is the city traffice is amazing. I didnt have to hold the clutch all the time., the vehicle moves at walking spped in the 1st gear. With A/C on I found the vehicle to drag a bit but on high speed there wasnt any difference. Overall its a Good value for Money. I Have still not got to the Highways. Once I get there on the Highways, I will update my review... Happy driving..

Hyundai Accent Executive
May 07, 2009 12:08 PM 15885 Views

I am looking to buy a new car and my requirements are Sedan, Petrol and I took test drive of Indigo, Swift Dzire, Chevrolet, Hyundai Accent.... I did not like Swift and In digo after I drove Chevrolet. So I decided to try Hyundai Accent Executive becoz of the reasonable pricing. I went to Hyundai Advaith and fized an appointment for test dive.

First disappointment was, they brought Hyundai Accent GLE and said Executive is almost same as GLE with very minor differences. Still, I took the test drive and found the engine to be noisy all the way. I am surprised how come a petrol car be so noisy??

I was using Opel Astra all these days which was a beauty and after taking test drive of Chevrolet. I am addicted to comfort and noisy cars will make me go mad, but again how can a petrol car be noisy. Guys please take proper test drive of the car which you want to buy. Although there are other positives like AC, Space, Smooth Gear Shift, but noise in the engine made me think twice. If you are going long drive then this noise will spoil the mood. Is it because the demo car was problematic?? again I am loop ...donno which car to go as Chevrolet cars are way too costly .I seem to be sensitive to this sound, otherwise, the car is nice ...I donno about mileage as it was only test drive.

Ask Jeff Bridges to Stop the Hyundai commercials. From the Associated Press 01/31/09:

“In an interview with The New York Times, Bruce Springsteen says he shouldn’t have made a deal with Wal-Mart. This month, the store started exclusively selling a Springsteen greatest-hits CD.”

“Some fans were critical because Springsteen has been a longtime supporter of worker’s rights, and Wal-Mart has faced criticism for its labor practices. Springsteen’s team didn’t vet the issue as closely as it should have, and that he “dropped the ball on it, ” he told the Times……”.

Springsteen went on to say: “It was a mistake. Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one. Fans will call you on that stuff, as it should be.”

I feel Jeff Bridges should bow out of the Hyundai commercials now and I encourage others to ask that he does so, and that he makes a formal statement to the press like Springsteen. Bridges is well liked and should set a better example. It’s time America stopped being Asia’s Landfill and it’s time Americans helped out.

I love my Hyundai Accent
Apr 07, 2009 01:48 PM 13554 Views

Why did I buy this vehicle- This is my first car. Had only 15 hrs of driving experience till date(from training school some 10 yrs ago). Had a couple of friends using Accent. Got good reviews from them. Test Drove along with friends, found it a stable, spacious car. Mileage was not a very important factor for me. Was willing to live with 10-11 types. At a ex-showroom tag of Rs. 4.9 Lakhs including insurance, I decided to go for this. Compare with 1. Swift / Dzire - dont like the shape+ waiting time.2. Ford Ikon - High maintenance post 3 yrs. 3. Chevrolet - High priced, dont know about future of GM(bankruptcy and all:-). Also - My requirements were - frequent long drives for vacations- hence the stability factor. Along with long drives comes the need to stuff a lot of luggage. Know will probably not buy a car in the next 4-5 years, hence went for a sedan. Experience - Completed 9000 km / 5 months. Due for 2nd service, hence the review. As indicated earlier, quite a stable car. Never given any trouble in starting, even in winters. No issues so far on almost any front, maybe too early to say this. Touchwood. Gives mileage of 14.5 kmpl(without AC), major driving to and from office. High mileage attributed to 60-70% driving on Delhi-Gurgaon expreessway and 40-30% within city. Also, take precautions to get a higher mileage(switch off the car at signals etc.) Space Inside- Quite good, being a sedan. Wife loves the space. 3 adults can sit comfortable in the back seat with no constricted movements. Comfort - Stability comes with the car. Being a sedan+ the overall shape, Low Center of Gravity helps a lot. Top speed which I have gone to= 130 kmph. Car holds the ground and sticks to it. Driving - Its a pleasure. Seat height and clearance etc. is comfortable. Dealer - A bit negative on this aspect. The car for delivery had a scratch, hence had to settle for a different unit. Same color(Black). Plus, the insurance policy was delivered with the engine / chassis number of the original unit(and not the new unit which I took). Had to change this and took a couple of days. Else, service was good. Long Drives - Been on 700 km(both ways) drives, twice in the hilly areas of Uttaranchal. Found the car to be absolutely reliable, stable, responsive to the roads, at high / low speeds. Suspension is really good, never had a issue even on potholed roads(at low speeds). Takes the hilly, ghat roads in its stride. Good brakes, smooth steering, Headlight beam excellent. AC - Functions good. Drags the vehicle a bit if AC turned on on 3rd speed. Upto 2 is good. I keep at 1 because even this is good to keep the vehicle cool(even in hot March/April afternoons in Delhi) with 2 people. All in all an excellent car. Any Negatives - Old technology, you can take it as proven technology as well as can be phased out types. Upto you. As of now, Hyundai has not come with an alternate for Accent in the sedan segment. Considering the current environment, looks pretty distant for Hyundai to come up with a alternate as well. Only 1 variant in Accent, Executive, a slight upgrade on GLE-3(actually this was good for me, no confusion while purchase). Some people could want choices. Looks could be negative for some. Personally, Ford Ikon steals in looks and sporty appearance. Resale Value - Not in consideration at all. The car will be with me for a long time, probably my children will learn driving with this baby. Anything else I might have missed or specific queries do let know.

One of the Great Value for Money Cars
Jan 19, 2009 11:11 AM 10781 Views

I have owned and driven a Hyundai Accent for about 7 years now. In terms of the ownership experience I would rate this as one of the best Value for money buys in the market even today. As with any of Hyundai's products, the reliability is high and fit and finish are top notch.

While the 1.5 L Alpha engine that does duty in my car may not be the best in class, it is average and a little more on both performance and fuel efficiency. In the congested Bangalore traffic I manage an average of 10kmpl. Take her on to the high ways and you can expect anywhere from 13.5- 14.7 kmpl depending on how much you can resist and control you urge to hit the accelerator . The engine is smooth and silent at lower revs but gets noisey if revved hard. The suspensions are good, but the low clearence eith the soft suspension has the car bottoming on full load at almost every bump. The other aspect is on brakes, which I would discribe at the best as Average, in slightly wet conditions I have had the experience of the tail falling out of line when the wheels are locked.

The seats are comfortable, the AC is very effective and the rear seat is designed for 3 people and can really accomodate 3! The boot space is decent and the general plastic quality in the cabin is good.

Since Hyundai has a small car, service centers are present in smaller towns too, frankly, after having been a Maruti owner, Hyundai has not given me a reason to believe that they are in anyway behind Maruti in their service network. As for the efficiency of service, well, overall they are good, I have been getting my service done at Advaith Hyundai and the guys have been consisitent for most part of the time. The service cost are on an average about 2.5-3.5 K with regular replacements like filters, consumables like Oil, wheel Balancing . The spares are not too expensive as compared to competition and the maintenance costs are reasonable for a car in the C segment.

Would I recommend this car to anyone? With my experience, YES! but that having been said, youalso have to aware that this model has been in existence for almost a decade now and is slowly being phased out, so do not look at great resale value if you are going in for a new one today. But look at it this way, you get a real sedan for the price slightly more than that of a hatchback and this car is reliable, easy to drive around and easy to maintain and you really arrive in style!

New Hynudai Accent Executive.. Good choice
Jan 08, 2009 05:08 PM 21329 Views

This is my first review on mouthshut . This is about 1st car I brought. My father owned a white colored maruti fiat some 15 yrs back.

During this Diwali time I decided to buy a car of my choice and I began hunting car which fits into my budget ( bet 5.5 to 6 lakhs )

I listed down the choices which were

1) Maruti Swift

2) SWift Dzire

3) Hyundai i10

I had a look at all these cars but I was getting confused which car to buy . Then my boss suggested to have a look at Hyundai Accent. So I Visited Hyundai show room again .Hyundai have come up with a new model... Executive model.

I took test drive and I fell in love with this car.. Following are the plus features of the car

1) Looks:- Hyundai accent has sleek look .. not much of change compared to earlier versions.

2) Space:-This car has good space . 3 ppl can comfirtable sit on backside. Good Boot space too,

3) Styling :-executive model scores high on styling . arms rest for back seat, wooden finishing front panel, leather stearing cover etc.

4) Amenities:- executive model comes fully loaded except music system. very good AC , defogger lamps , key less entry .

5) Cost:- On road price of the car was Rs 5.75 lakhs before price cuts were announced

On the Flip side

1) Mileage :- Mileage is not so good till now it has given 8 km with AC on city roads . Hope this will improve after few more services.

As whole I am very much pleased with the choice I made. I will recommend others also to try this car out . I am sure that you will not be disappointed.

I had bought Hyundai Accent GLS model in December, 2002 from Hyundai Motor Plaza (HMP), New Delhi, company’s own retail outlet. On hindsight I feel that I have been cheated by the company by delivering me a substandard product under the garb of discounts and freebees which is a popular tactic till date by the company to boost December sales. The colour I had booked was not offered to me and instead I was psychologically trapped to accept the colours available at that time to avoid the delay if I stick to colour of my choice and impending hike in prices from January 1, 2003 as flashed by the company’s news bulletins. The main problem with the car is body rust at multiple places which clearly show poor quality of material used. To give you an example, such spots are inside the boot, car entry doors, portions of car flooring at door frames which have become big holes now.

I had to replace door handles of the front doors due to immense rusting of the opening/closing mechanism inside the door within three years from HMP. Externally, at so many places blisters have appeared on the paintwork which looks so shabby and speaks volumes of how customers are valued by an international company like Hyundai. Even company logos attached to the vehicle have caught the rust!!! So much so that now there is a rattling noise from the internal parts of the left front doors which is so irritating for which full door replacement is the only answer as per HMP representative. This whole issue has left a very bad taste and obviously I have blacklisted all Hyundai products for the future.

The ascent of accent
Dec 22, 2008 02:04 PM 11170 Views

Wow what a car. I am sorry to see some negative reviews of this car. Mine was a 2005 model which I sold in 2008 and upgraded to innova and a honda accord coz of growing kids. My family loved this car - very comfy, a suspension crafted for rotten indian roads, great ac and man, . The car gave me an average of 20 km on delhi - lalgarh jattan highway. It gives you a rock solid feel and on the highway its steady at 140 kmph. Though its not peppy - meaning it doesn't handle like a sports car in pickup, but once you are at higher revs, then it doesn't need much pedal to stay at 140.i drove this car for 40000 km in 3-4 yrs and the car interiors and exteriors felt like brand new.

Once while returnng from mussouri, there was an accident and I banged into a zen in front who had suddenly braked. Behind me a santro banged in and behind him a matiz rammed in - a total of 3 bangs. I thought my car would be a mess. After 30 secs I decided to get out and examine the damage. I saw and came back inside and sat down quietly. My wife asked after a little while, scared, ' so how much is the damage'? , fearing the worst. I looked at her and smiled. I told her, ' I can't believe it! The zen was bashed in , the santro was having the radiator leaking and the matiz had its front grill and lights out. In our car only the front number plate is slightly cracked!!'

And its way cheap! For 5 lacs you are getting a real beauty. My belief is that all sedans are basically the same, with a few gimmicks thrown in here and there. So whether you are in esteem, accent , accord, city, merc or optra, the space comfort technology engineering aesthetics trimmings , bling factor, snob value are all a matter of relativity.. Go for accent - it gives you a bit of every expensive sedan out there at a fraction of the cost.

I drove this car from ludhiana to Chandigarh and got a very good feeling of comfort and safety. It has a beautiful look and acceleration. On applying brakes it stickson to the road and does not slip or skid .

Its characteristics are as of Maruti Zen except for its bigger size. The space is also enough to give the feeling of a sedan.Back view from inside the car is also good unlike other cars of today where the problem of reversing exists. Main cost is also less as it falls in an affordable price if you plan to go for the big car.Stability is very good like Zen and the tyres of the veh grip the road while driving. It has a low CG hence less chances of over toppling.

It should be seen more on the roads as it satisfies all the basic QR required in a good standard car. It has beutiful light colours and suits the educated class of society. A good family car.

Best hyundai car ever!
Dec 12, 2008 04:17 PM 12281 Views

I own a 2005 june CRDI, if I have to describe this car in one word- this is a monster on the road! great power and great handling. I have knocked 150 speed in this car and its rock steady provided you should have 4 passengers in it. The fuel efficiency of the car is amazing it gives me 15 kmpl in city conditions without AC.

This could be rated as one of the best vehicles hyundai has made on overall performance. The maintenance will cost around 5-6k normally for every 6 months. Hyundai doesnt sell spares outside so it is suggested to get the servicing done at the company showroom itself. Please do not try to put duplicate filters which in turn will hamper your vehicle performance by spoiling the censors.

Always check for coolant and engine oil levels and conditions to keep the vehicle in good condition. I would rate this car as the best thing ever happened to hyundai.

This vehicle is much better than the new verna since the shape provides better control on driving.

I would say go for it!

Must Read. Many ppl ignore this fact before buying
Nov 10, 2008 01:44 PM 11008 Views

I would like to share my after sales service experience of my Hyundai Verna car.

I have Hyundai Verna XI model car. I have purchansed this in 2007. This was my car's third servicing which has been done on last saturday.

I given my car to Nimbus Hyundai, sector-64, NOIDA service center. This center is headed by Mr. Omkar Tiwari.

In the name of third servicing, I have found that they have not done anything properly. But, thye have charged for several things to me. In fact the condition of the car was worse than the before servicing.

1.) After servicing and when they have told that everything is perfact, I had taken my car back to home. On the same day evening, I have gone for a drive. I have found that main head light is not working. It is very surprising to me that when I have given for the servicing, it was working fine.

2.) During serving and job preparation, I have never come to know that which supervisior is attending/ responsible for the servicing of my car. I came to know about this when I had taken my car after servicing and they have told to put the name of the supervisior as Jitendra.

3.) To my surprise, person who does the servicing asking me for the some extra money out of the service center knowledge then only he will do the work correctly. In fact, I have been forced to give some Rs 50-100 here and there.

4.) They have done wheel rotation. I don't know what they have done but, I have found that now when I drive, I hear the clear sound of wheel(sound appears like wheel is cutting the air or rubber is to much attached with the road.) inside the cabin, in spite of all windows are closed. Before servicing this sound was not coming.

5.) After servicing, I have found that to change gear is harder as it was earlier. I think, after servicing gear change should be smoother. But, in this service center, it has become harder.

6.) Engine is giving more noise after servicing. I think, it should be less noise after servicing. As, engine OIL and engine additive has been put. For these

two things they have charged me around 1200/.

I think, if it is the situation just after 1 day of servcing then, god knows what all surprises will come in coming days.

Headlight problem was really very very bad. As, without this none can drive the car. I immediately run to the SECTOR-5, Hyundai Nimbus Service center to fix this issue. There,

they have found that lever(attached with the stearing wheel) which operates the light is problematic.

I was very much surprised that how this thing happened. Before giving the car for servicing in Nimbus Hyundai, sector-64, it was working properly. After servicing, it was not working.

BTW, mechanic in sector-5 Nimbus Hyundai has told me that this may be the case that during servicing they have changed this lever with the defaulted one and put my working lever to some other car who's warranty has been finished after taking some money from that guy.

In the work detail sheet everything is written properly and in fact checklist has been also given that during third servicing what all components needs to be checked in the vechicle and before delivery of the vechicle to the customer what all needs to be checked.

In spite of these checklist that service center person in Nimbus Hyundai, sector-64 has not done anything. Otherwise, this headlight problem can be eqasily caught. It gives a very clear cut indication that my headlight lever has been changed and put it in some other car after taking some bribe from the owner of that car.

It is what Nimbus Hyundai Service center in sector-64.

I really very thankful to head incharge of Nimbus Hyundai Service center in sector-5, Mr. Dixit,

who has fixed my problem ASAP and also promised that rest of the porblems will be solved immediately when you will come after 2-3 days.

I warned all ppl, plz plz, don't go to Nimbus Hyundai service center in sector-64. Very much poorly and highly un-professional and complete cheating

kind of management present there.

Person named Omkar Tiwari who is the manager incharge of this sector-64 service center is highly unprofessional attitude.

You can imagine the level of professionalism and management with this event that workers there ask for extra money(CHUPKE SE. that guy

told just drop some extra money in my pocket so that none can come to know about this. Just like bribe.).

I want to report and escalate this level of un-professionalism to the higher authority of Hyundai ppl.

Anyone, could you plz suggest me that how this can be reported?

Also, I would like to report this issue to that organization who gives the ISO certification to Hyundai Motors for it's customer care. If possible I will report this to media. SO that, this kind of harrasment can be stopped from now onwards with other ppl. And, vechicle owner can give the vechicle for the servicing with confident.

Anyone can think that that guy has changed the headlight lever with some default one after taking some money.

Thanx very much.

Accent GLE - Not very pleasing
Sep 19, 2008 07:34 PM 12565 Views

I had replied in brief to one of the reviews, but would like to share my experience with all the members and guests, had bought GLE in the month of June 2008 from M/s Hans Hyundai in New Delhi, immediately after the purchase, I noticed that front A/C grill is loose, found that right tail light of the car having moisture.

was really disappointed, took thecar back to the dealer on the 5th day of the purchase, after some heated exchanges the tail light got replaced and I was told that the front (wood grain) console is defective, I checked the same with other cars, situation was same, I took up the matter with Hyudnai, they were pretty reluctant but the same was changed after pursuation and lot of mail exchanges and after 1.5 months.

one thing I agree with some of the members that each of the vehicle carries life with itself, once the same gets over, its better to buy an alternate available in the market.

honestly, I have felt lot of noises in the car and do not feel happy and satisfied after driving this car,

I really enjoy driving my Santro which I bought in the year 2005, on the strength of the same, I bought Accent, but am disappointed.

Dealers have been somewhat helpful, but even they become helpless when they see the problems in the car, they also wonder, what sort of action they have to take and how do they have to proceed.

Hyundai SUCKS!!!
Aug 21, 2008 02:43 PM 13799 Views

I own a HYUNDAI Accent from 1998 and have only 92.000 klms (that would be about 65.000 miles). I also -and always- drive "gently". I don't drive fast, I don't accelerate strong, I don't go above 90 klms (70 miles) per hour because I want to have fuel economy.

HYUNDAI cars generally may be cheap to buy, seems to have enough good technical specifications and they're good looking. But I believe its not worth because: a) it has poor construction quality, b) it appears often mechanical and electrical malfunctions, c) the fuel consumption usually is bigger than this described by its book, d) it has expensive genuine parts so a very EXPENSIVE SERVICE in the long term, e) it burns lots of oils inside its engine (so, I have to carry always Oil with me!!!).

The cost to fix it is very big. f) when I drive I hear sounds and “cracks” from the main body and the plastics of the car (what a quality?!?!?!).g) often, when I catch the door from the outside metal surface, there is static electricity that shocks me (its very unpleasant). In the long term, I EXPERIENCED ALL THESE PROBLEMS. My opinion is absolutely NEGATIVE for HYUNDAI generally. When I will have to replace my car, I will not buy a HYUNDAI again (not only Accent, I mean any HYUNDAI). That's for sure! Don't make the same mistake I made.

It's wasted money. The money that you earn by working hard. If HYUNDAI had quality, it would have it in 1998 and today (as a principle). Often, the quality is better when someone has an older model, because every car industry by the pressure of lower cost, reduce the quality year by year. In the other hand, when a car factory is new in the game (as HYUNDAI was in 1998) makes better products in quality, because the Industry is not known (famous) and want to have costumers. As the years passing, they reduce the quality because they gain fans. Fans have no brain. They want tell you the truth: they are fans. So, do not take HYUNDAI.

My experience with the car has been great uptill now.   I bought this car(2000 model) about 2 years now.   Although it had about 70, 000 on the speedometer, it was still quite smooth and did'tn have many issues with it.

The car was droven from Mumbai to Bangalore the same day it was bought and to my surprise did not even heat up for a sec or had any issues during the 17 hrs straight journey.    The car can go to surprising high speeds on a clean strech of road.   I have managed to go uptill 170 kms on Bombay - Bangalore state high way and it still goes rock steady without any issues.

Car is quite tough and robest in it's categories.   Car has enough space for 5 to sit comfortablyy and smooth to drive.     The power band on the Hyundai is on an higher RPM, so would not accelerate much on lower gears unless pushed.   Car has to be pushed on to a certain RPM to behave like a sports car or usually just goes on behaving like a nice kid.

In terms of maintaince, although it is sort of expensive than an Maruti Esteem, it is still cheaper than cars like Honda or Ford.     The car is quite robest and faults come on quite rarely once it has everything fixed by Hyundai service station.

The car's only flaw is a low ground clearance, although it would not make any difference if the car is driven in Mumbai or Delhi.   But on roads like Bangalore, you would have to be carefull especially when it is fully loaded on the backseat.

I would definatly recommend this car to someone who already had a car and would like to upgrade it for something bigger and comfortable.    The person who does go for this car also should expect the kind of maintaince expected from any Big car and cannot be compared with Maruti 800 or Esteem in maintaince cost or purchase price.

Mumbai India
Nice car in mid range

I have a passion for driving and have tried my hands on almost all cars that an average middle class indian family can afford. I have been driving for last 6 years clocking more than 25000 kms myself. Most of them were adventurous long drives.

In March '08, I decided to buy my own car all by myself. At the age of 24 with some savings, I was too confused to buy a car. Which Car to buy? Whether to go for looks or for Power?? Or for Fuel efficiency or comfort?? I was in a doldrum situation and I landed at Mouth shut to find the reviews of all cars which are favorite in Indian market for the moment.

My budget was close to 6.5-7 lacs. I had a test drive on all cars in that range i.e. fiesta, Swift, Accent, Logan and finally decided to buy Accent. The car is satisfactory to my needs. It has got enough space, its comfortable and suitable for lond drives. I get an avg of 14km/l on highway ( driving in proper condition with avg RPM at around 100kmph) and in city it gives 11-12 comfortably. Given the condition that you are using brakes not very frequently. The interiors are good with wooden garnish ( unlike swift where you feel too much of plasticy inside). Accelaration is good. I have tried a top speed of 160km/hr on Mumbai-Pune expressway. The car is rock steady at a speed of 150. AC is superb.

Now regarding the cons. One of the  problem that the car has, is the space near the accelarator. I guess some support is required at the particular position as driving for long hours creates spasm in your right thighs. The clearance is not so good, precaution is required while crossing the speed brakers. The technology is old and central locking, fog window etc are not available. I have experienced couple of strange situations i.e. sudden mal-function of wipers during rain!!!! Lookwise also, the car is way out of the league compared to likes of Verna, City etc. Hyundai may stop the production in few years.

Coming back to services. Well, Hyundai has a netowrk of authorised service centre across the city. So that is helpful.

My personal recommendation:

If  you are not too tight bout your budget then go for Verna, City etc.

If Compared to Ford fiesta, Swift, Logan... then Accent has an upper hand.

New 2008 GLE

Well, After a lot of pondering I think this is the best decission I have made. Its been 1200 Kms Super soft on the road like butter.

Few Drawbacks :

No Arm Rest for both front and rear seats Dashboard is curved, so cant keep any stuff on the dash a drive along. Response is poor with AC on before taking off and in turns you really feel the jerk.

The silencer does not point out straight, but is curved down, hence cant load a fancy cover. The Steering could have a more luxury look, lt seems very raw even compared with the i-10 steering

Good Stuff you'd like :

Powerful AC

Decent mileage (Approx 10 in city with AC )

Clear 45 degree angle view, you will feel better driving this in mountain curves and hair pin bends rather than a SX4 or a City. Decent stuff on a high-way. No cribs. If you are a family guy wanting to drive to work everyday and drive out on weekends, a good dead and value of money.

Hyundai Accent Review - GLE / Executive 2008
Jul 09, 2008 03:07 AM 13015 Views

This is the latest addition to my 4 wheel list.

The GLE 2008 engine is a 1495 cc which churns out approx 92 BHP (not PS) @ 5500 rpm levels. The suspension is quite good for Delhi roads and gobbles up most potholes with ease .Hyundai has upgraded this GLE variant with the 175/70 R 13 tires.

The boot space is generous enough to accommodate 2 full size bags, a chiller, 2 lawn chairs and your picnic basket.

I have owned the car for 8 days now (500 kms approx) & haven't taken her above 110 kmph as the car needs to be driven below 3000 rpm during running-in period. The sweet roar of the engine tells me that it can easily do 160-170 if driven with a slightly heavy foot !

The fuel economy is not much to talk about right now . It is approx 9km / litre with 100% AC and is expected to get to 10 kmpl after the 1st service.

Another thing that I admire about Hyundai is the eye for detail (which Suzuki lacks) .As an example I must state that the Accent has a 'dead pedal' for the driver.

What's a dead pedal? Is it going to smell up my car? Relax - You can put that handkerchief back in your pocket and lower your eyebrows. The dead pedal is a place to rest your left foot when it's not in use on the clutch. And so it is useful :)

Overall an excellent buy if you need a comfortable & powerful city car.

Update on 28th Nov'08:

Clocked over 5000 kms & 2nd service is due.

Top speed checked upto 145kmph. 3rd gear stretches easily upto 115 kmph now.

Fuel economy has gone up to 12 kmpl (from initial 9.5 kmpl) in city driving .

Slight wobble is noticed at speeds above 130 kmph and the steering feels less confident thereafter. This may be attributed to wheel balancing but I have a strong feeling that the soft steering is caused by the hydraulics P.S set up which doesn't cutoff (above 40 kmph) like its E.P.S. counterpart (as in Suzuki).

Will modify the air intake system (K&N or Green) after the 2nd service. This should help the low end torque a bit and better acceleration in 2nd gear.

Experimented with Nitrogen in the bridgestones last weekend.Costed 150 bucks for inflating 4+1 tyres. The tyres (& pocket) feel lighter but this appears more of a hard sell than any real benefit.

Update after 3rd Service: Mar 09

K&N high performance filter added to the air intake system. This addition really delivers a punch much before you reach the high rev zone - around 4000 rpm.Top speed tested to 160 km/hr on Delhi - Ahmedabad highway. Even at varying speeds , the suspension is very comfortable & offers respectable handling at high speeds and corners.

Bonus Information for Adventure seekers :

Delhi to Ahmedabad (via Udaipur )is 980 kms approx , which I did in 13 hours in my Accent GLE..With average rip-off speeds of 120+ & 100% AC , it returned an economy of 11.5 - 13 (checked at each fuel stop).*I stopped for fuel at every half tank.

Delhi to Udaipur was gulped in 8 hours approx after which I took a well deserved 1 hour lunch break.

Before this trip , I had done Delhi - Palampur in 12 hours.Palampur from Delhi is 600 kms (450 kms of plains + 150 kms of serpentine hilly driving)

Until the next update....Drive Safe Guys !

Hyundai Accent GLE: Good Family Car
Jun 24, 2008 02:24 PM 11002 Views

Updates:

It's been 9 months and I am quiet happy with the performance of the car and service of the dealer.

Only problem I could locate is the milege which is around 9-10 KMs / Ltr in city and 12 KMs / Ltr on highway. (with AC)

Overall I am happy with my car.

Old Review:

I bought my Hyundai Accent GLE on 3rd January 2008 from Sanjay Hyundai, Pune.

It is very early to comment as I have driven approximately 4000 kms.

My overall experience has been very good and satisfactory.

I couldn't find any manufacturing or other problem in the car.

The ride has been very smooth. Car has ample space inside and the decent boot space also.

In all it's a good family car.

As far as pick-up goes, I have driven the car in Khandala Ghat in top gear (on Pune-Bangalore Highway) with AC and amazingly without changing the gear at all.

It has got very good pick-up and I drove the car up to 120 km/h without any problem.

Only problem I think is the mileage which is around 10 in city and 12 on highway. (these are with AC). I think this is fair enough in this segment with 1.5 ltr engine.

Coming to the dealer satisfaction, Sanjay Hyundai has been exceptionally good dealer.

It was absolutely great experience of purchasing a car and also after sales.
