Cheap Chinese product
Jun 22, 2012 11:50 PM 2248 Views

I bought this model of camera about 4 years ago. For a first time digicam user, I wasn't very aware of the other models that are there in the market. However, I was impressed by the 3 year service warranty that Sony gave and purchased what was at that time the lowest price among Sony cameras. It is a 6 MP cam with 3x optical zoom. I paid 11,000 Rs. for it. The MAJOR flaws in the model are typically never mentioned in their ads. All over the city, I could see Sony ads showing this model of camera.

  1. The model drains battery like crazy. Alkaline batteries do not even last more than 12-18 photos. Brand new set of batteries give a battery level indicator of 50% on the LCD screen.

  2. The structure itself looks like made of plastic imported from china. The battery door and the latch are so weak. When you push the AA size batteries in and slide the door shut, the battery door latch just breaks off. I replaced batteries about five times and it broke. I then had to stop using the camera for over two years.

  3. Shutter speed is terrible. You need to place it on auto mode on a steady surface to get a steady image. The slightest of movement blurs the image.

  4. Buttons are so clumsy and rickety. You often need to hold down the button for a few seconds before it can shoot.

When I first took it to a service center within warranty, I was told that the tiny battery lid would cost me 1200 Rs to replace. I inevitably paid it because I had spent a fortune on buying the camera and on the batteries.

I bring it back after service and within a few days of usage, the door broke again.

I was in no mood to spend money on it again. I just dumped it away in a corner hoping I would find some local camera repairman who might repair it for a lesser price.

Terrible camera and Sony should have ideally recalled this model. I wonder why no one in India filed a case in a consumer court about this.

Sony cameras have focus lock defect
Jun 09, 2012 10:41 AM 3407 Views

I have been using this camera for 4 years. There is severe manufacturing defect in the focus lock assembly. The function of this assembly is to lock the focus when the shutter is depressed half way and then retain the focus till the shutter is depressed fully to shoot the photo. There have been many reports on the internet about the failure to focus after clicking few hundreds of photos due to defective design of this focus lock assembly also called Mounted C Board PW-1.

To replace this part, one has to pay Rs 2, 300 to the Sony service centre.

It is surprising that Sony is continuing to sell this model with such serious defect. May be thy have a plan to make money by selling the camera at low cost and then recovering the amount by selling the spares at high costs.

You can read the experience of thousands of consumers who faced the same issue time and again in their Sony Cybershot DSC H2, H5, H7 and other models.

fixya.com/support/t2347539-sony_dsc_h5_shutter_button flickr.com/groups/sonydcsh1/discuss/72157608094133552/ thelope.com/2007/03/sony-dsc-h2-problems.html

The consumers should demand calling back of these models from the marked and users and refunding the amounts or giving replacements.

I purchased this cam 10 months ago and it was my first worst experience with Sony brand. I never faced this kind of worst experience with any sony product, I really like sony but this product is just a whole junk. The picture or movie quality is so distorted, the whole thing becomes worst for this model. It even doesn't compete the quality of other lowest price camera. The distortion is not recognized in camera LCD view itself until you doesn't view the taken pictures or video in your computer.

In camera it looks like you have taken a very nice snap but when you view it in your computer you realize how much worst is that. Take the snaps of corner of a room wall and watch it out in your PC, you can easily see the distortion. In video just keep the eyes on wall side, if there is a water pipe on your wall, it would be better to view that distortion and you realize the distortion very easily. If you take the snaps of group people like in a function of your home, all the side peoples get stretched and you can view this in your computer very easily. Also the battery life is not good in this model.

Note: you don't visualize any distortion in your camera LCD(small in size) until you view it in your PC Screen.

SONY not as reliable as it was
Feb 13, 2012 01:21 AM 4097 Views

I Bought SONY Cybershot DSC-H55 14 Mega Pixel camera. I was using Canon before but it was using two AA batteries which will last with 30 to 40 photos. Also my Canon model had a issue for slow response(Shutter speed and saving photo) .I have wait for 4 to 5 seconds before I take next snap.

Initially I was happy with New SONY model due to its Wide Angle lens, big LCD Screen and clarity of photos.

Recently I found when I increased the image size, Camera started giving very slow response, I again have to wait for next snap and sometimes camera freezes and stops responding for couple of seconds( 10 to 15 seconds).

Recently another finding I came across that these mide size cameras are not meant to work in cold weather (below 0 degree temp) as sometime it took 1 minute for camera to respond button actions. Going forward no SONY Product. Specifically in Camera area.

I have multiple SONY electronics gadgets but my Sony Camcorder and Sony Camera made me to think over to look for other brands at least for reliability.

Picture Quality is good only at Day Time. At evening and night time, if you capture photos, then Flash create problem. Also it has various modes but there are no difference between them. I purchased it 1 year back, and within a year it has some Flash problem, some time flash working some time not. Two more friends of mine purchased same model and faced same problem.

If you like to capture good photos then better to increase your budget and get Cannon SLR camera. Otherwise just for fun, you can also take photos from your cell phone.

I have problem with image shot with distortion at the edges. There seems to be some problem with the optics or maybe the camera itself?

Also the position of the communication USB cable is not OK. You cannot place the camera vertical with cable while connecting to any external device like PC or TV.

Camera is good in terms of features, 10x optical zoom, 28mm wide angle lens, different photo modes, intelligent selection, HD movie video recording and lot of good features.

But the photo quality has let me down.

Sony cyber shot is one of the coolest cameras I have come across as it has superb clarity and the zoom is superb we can zoom up to 20 times and click the picture without even letting anyone know that it taken from far away. the cost is also feasible as it has some amazing features at it's cost. it also is a kind of professional camera and can be used so.

Cyber shot has just one flaw according to me which is the heaviness and maybe they can reduce that in near future.

Expensive compact digital camera but having issues
May 26, 2011 11:00 AM 3291 Views

I would like to bring to your notice the problem faced with my Sony DSC T300 Camera.  I purchased this camera in June 2008 in Singapore for almost Rs. 20000.  It has been used very rarely since purchase.  The camera started having vibration when switched on recently.  The vibration also spoils the picture quality.

I took it to the nearest Sony Service Centre at Karam Pura, New Delhi. They informed that the lens needs to be replaced which will cost me Rs. 4750 plus service charges of Rs. 500.  This is a too steep price considering the costs of digital cameras now-a-days. You can buy a good digital camera for 5000 these days.

When I searched on Internet about this issue, I have come to know that this issue seems to be like a factory defect as too many people have faced this issue with their Sony DSC T300 and other T-Series Cameras.

Pls see the comments on the following youtube videos wherein there are evidence of many people facing the same issue:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=Sc-0xMfPJq8&NR=1

https://youtube.com/watch?v=iGWXVLpgbTc&NR=1

if you search for "sony cybershot vibrate, " you'll find that this issue impacts a significant number of people. The problem appears to start after one or two years of easy use of the Cybershot camera.

Sony has accepted that they had factory defect of vibration in T20 model and they are repairing it without charge.

https://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?&news_id=269&mdl=DSCT20

I have the same problem with the DSC-T300 model, Its obviously a factory defect then why should I pay for getting it fixed.

Sony Cybershot Modes
May 11, 2011 03:48 PM 3428 Views

I bought the Sony Cybershot DSC W220 in US in Sep 2009. I find a problem with the modes. When shot a picture in easy mode and viewed in the PC, the picture comes in full blown mode bigger than screen size. But in other modes, the picture comes in post card size only. Is it a problem or a feature? How to adjust the post size for the other modes? Can anyone provide their knowledge?

Excellent product from Sony
Dec 14, 2010 03:17 AM 5274 Views

I bought this Camera in Singapore. Very user friendly options, easy to use, It has amazing picture quality and clarity, zoom is not that enough though (10x) but, good enough for small use (if you are not into much photography). The only problem it has is, it does not have zoom option while you are recording a video. That is the biggest drawback on this. Otherwise an excellent product from Sony.

I would definitely recommend people to buy it.

Substitute to a DSLR!
Sep 06, 2010 01:54 PM 3485 Views

Well it was for my college and personal use that I bought a camera. Photography has been one field that I am in love with and hence I needed a cost effective good camera to have fulfilled the desired task. This camera looks beautiful and clicks much beautifully. This camera has given me a lot of beautiful photographs. I am a nature photography freak, and I have always loved clicking photographs from this camera.Sony Cybershot cameras are always equipped with Carl Zeiss Lens which is one of the best lens used, 8.1 Mega Pixels, 4x Optical Zoom, ISO up to 3200 and a smile shutter. The flash is very powerful, every possible aspect of this camera helps a picture to be clicked a better way every time.I think it is a very good choice to choose this camera. It definitely acts a substitute to a DSLR.

Awesome product with very few hitches
Aug 26, 2010 12:21 PM 6818 Views

On the box it is mentioned 15x optical zoom, this may appeal to many of use but what I wanted was a good allround camera.good at shooting both portraits as well as landscapes, slow motion photography as well as ultra high speed photography. And trust me this camera fulfills all these.

Features-

The camera offers resolution of 9.1 megapixels with 15x optical zoom branded Carl Zeiss vario-tessar with image stabilization, a 3 inch tilting LCD, ISO sensitivity from 80 to 3200.

speaking about various modes this camera offers there is a host of these, including Easy mode for novices, aperture priority, shutter speed priority and manual mode which is useful for advanced users. Not to mention SCN mode which helps select settings as per the scene and Auto mode with intelligent scene recognition. There is also a SMILE SHUTTER mode which automatically takes photographs when subjects smile. It shoots video too at 640x480.

the camera comes with an infra red remote and a hidden night shot mode as well.

Shutter speed ranges from 30 seconds to 1/4000th second while aperture is 2.7-8.0 besides there are all metering modes which are found in DSLRs and various focusing modes too.

performance-

the camera performs well in both low light and bright light conditions and delivered saturated colors which look more vivid when used under vivid color setting.15x zoom does a brilliant job.the camera can be used in any lighting conditions and is an able performer.I used the camera to shoot the India gate using slow shutterspeed and narrow aperture(photo attached) and also impact of a water drop on floor. Both came astonishingly fine.Videos are fine and you can zoom in and out during recording.

Flash is on level with competition.the nightshot mode works well but not of much use(but trust me, in this mode you can take pictures even in pitch dark)

However I noticed noise ISO 400 onwards despite of Noise reduction on and the camera seems to have shutter lag which is a down point if you are shooting fast moving objects hence pre focusing is adviced.

I brought this camera at a DSLRish price of 21900INR and its worth it.I would recommend this camera to anyone who likes to do all round photography. It is equally good in all spheres of photography.Well I love my camera, do you?

Nice Buy!

He Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5 is aimed mainly at the fashion buffs, the 8 megapixel model offers a combination of 5x inset zoom lens equivalent to 35-175mm and a hugh 3 inch LCD screen, currently the most powerful zoom and largest LCD in Sony's T-series. Less than half an inch thick, in addition the SonyT100 has high-definition output so you can take full advantage of any HD equipment you have in your home. This year's feature is face detection technology, is obviously included on such a headlining camera, and the T100 is available in silver, red or black. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5 definitely looks the part and has a great list of features, its performance and image quality match the camera's all-round style in my opinion a great little number well worth the mula I had the sony cyber shots before this and doesn't match up in the slightest get it while stocks last!!!

H10 is a good option in it's range.

I purchased Sony Cybershot H10 camera last year and I'm happy with it's performance. Yesterday, I was searching some deals for a laptop, suddenly, I saw an advertisement and now it's around 13, 000.

It's good to buy. Just go through some search before buying. Shop smart and Save more.:-)

Best choice for photo quality
Jun 25, 2010 03:37 PM 2052 Views

I always wanted to purchase a digital camera which gives a great photo quality. I had choice to go for slim one (which dosent have big lenses and zoom) Vs the semi-SLR type cameras.

As we know, we need a cam not only for the events like birthday, marriage etc but also for sight seeing etc. So Sony DSC H3 is the best choice as per me. It gives great professional like photo quality. Also the 10X zoom is excellent. The video quality is also good.

I purchased the camera in 15, 999 in 2008. Still today it gives fantastic results and can compete with the newer ones also.

Low quality product from Sony
Jun 16, 2010 10:15 AM 2695 Views

This is about the Sony Cybershot DSC W-370 (the latest cybershot camera available in India). It is a 14 Mega pixel camera with 7X Optical zoom, 720fps for high quality video. Lots of features like face and smile detection, panorama mode, and an auto intelligent mode which allows you to take good still pictures.

Where it really disappoints is the poor quality of video. Even without changing the zoom, the focus keeps blurring, as much as 2-3 times in a minute making it completely useless for home videos. The support center only changed the settings to disable the power save feature, even then the same problem persists.

Wow!!!
Jun 07, 2010 10:44 AM 3697 Views

I recently bought this camera for my father as a gift, and after toying around with it decided to purchase one for myself! As with all previous Sony products I have purchased in the past, quality assurance is guaranteed! (Where I bought it from I was given a 1 year warranty). The finish of the product and its initial image when removing the packaging is impressive enough, but its sleek frame and lightweight design only continue to impress. I found this camera takes very stable shots, and is very able to perform in poor lighting conditions. An added bonus is long range shooting in which the optical zoom works wonders. Also, the customizable ISO and wonderful price remind me why I purchase many of my gadgets from Sony, and have yet to find a fault with one.

Overall, this exceeds the quality of any competitive digital camera from rival firms I have previously purchased, and I have not regretted this buy!

Style at its best
May 18, 2010 12:34 PM 3514 Views

I bought this camera back in March 2008. I had to go through a galaxy of different brands and models before  I ended up chosing this one. Why?

This camera had an amazing picture quality What else do you want from a camera. The lens it uses is called carl Ziess Lens. Do not buy buy a camera with a Sony Lens. Carl Ziess is far superior. The camera resolution is 7.2 MPO with a2.5’ LCD screen. It is slim, cute and stylish. Easy to carry. Though you buy a camera of similar configuration from other brand to as low as Rs. 5000, you will never get the same picture quality.Your pocket might feel a little empty after you purchase it, but your heart will be really happy.

Believe me, this is a masterpiece. you can’t get more satisfaction than you will get after using this.

Do tell me how you find it.
