Fish eye lenses have always fascinated me as much as shooting architectural marvels be it something very famous or something in a small village that fancied me.
Having owned an ultra wide lens i felt limited by the field of view an ultra wide lens can capture. it does its work but not as much as i wanted plus i do like unusual compositions. I first was in the market to buy the nikkor fish eye but every store stated they had no stocks and not sure if they would get any. After searching the net and checking with other fish eye users i decided to get me a sigma fish eye. After having been fully satisfied with the sigmas art series i had no second thought about ordering one for me.
The lens costed about 59k for the nikon mount. The build quality is rather sturdy with an inbuilt hood made of metal. The lens is a manual lens and will rely on your nikon's in built auto focus motor. Aperture is only controlled on the body. My first few days with this lens was spent getting used to fish eye lenses tho challenging but you get the hang of it rather quick. Post that i had great fun shooting landscapes and buildings. what impressed me the most is its sharpness at 2.8 apertures as well as color reproductions especially details in the sky.
You cannot attach front filters but you can attach gelatin filters in the holder on the rear of the lens.Focusing is quiet fast but it really depends on your in-body af motor and also has a minimum focusing distance of 15cm which is rather good. The lens comes along with a carry case, one thing i love about sigma is that they give you a carry case(not a pouch) with most of their lenses.
