I own a Olympus FE270, purchased almost a year ago. This is my first Digital camera. To be frank, the reason I purchased this camera was due to the discount offered on it. I purchased it from Croma, in Pune. They offered this camera for Rs.6999/- inclusive of all taxes plus they offered free rechargeable batteries and a charger.
At that point in time, I had a low budget too, and somehow Kodak camera's failed to impress me. Sony was and is excellent, however, a basic digital cam, was costing around Rs.9995/-.. was out of my budget. The Olympus is a decent camera, not that it has exceptional picture quality, however, its decent for indoors. For outdoors though, it wasn't all that great. The zoom is respectable 3x optical.
It has easy-to-use functions dial, with different modes, present, in almost all camera's today, still, decent for an entry level camera.
Images captured are at 7.1 mega pixels, which are good. Compatibility with Windows XP and Linux is no issue at all, I do not use its S/W which came with the camera, my laptop, auto detects the memory card, which was 1GB, shows 511 photographs can be stored if clicked at 7.1MP.
What could have been offered in this camera, is a charging dock, which can also be used as a USB transfer module. The reason is the rechargeable batteries are not as effective as they seem. May last for approx 50-60 clicks, depending on flash usage and how long the LCD display is at use.
I am currently using Sony Ni-MH2500 mAh batteries. Works fine for me.
Overall, a decent camera, would recommend, though, many upgraded models available in the market today at almost the same price!
