Pretty Good.

How I decided:

I was to go for a trip to the himalayas and so I decided to buy a camera. My uncle and I decided to buy the same camera since like others in the "DX" series, the Kodak DX7440 offers both fully automatic operation and a range of exposure options that let more experienced users exercise greater creative control.

Features:

4.0-megapixel CCD delivering images as large as 2,304 x 1,728 pixels. 2.2-inch color LCD monitor. 4x, 33-132mm (35mm equivalent) lens. Auto, Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual exposure modes, plus 16 preset Scene modes. 32MB internal memory. SD/MMC card storage. Kodak EasyShare software included for both Windows and Mac platforms.

There some additional features that are worth mentioning:

Movie mode (with sound). Custom exposure mode for saving frequently-used settings. Adjustable ISO from 80 to 800, with an Auto setting. USB cable for connection to a computer (driver software included). 10-second Self-Timer for delayed shutter release.

Benefits:

This camera gave me shots like nothing else. It has many manual options and scenes to select from. If you are a budding photographer and wish to tweek your cameras settings, then this is the camera for you. Compact and reasonably small in size, the DX7440 measures 3.9 x 1.6 x 2.7 inches (100 x 40 x 69 millimeters). I am able to carry it anywhere I want to. Simple-to-understand user interface that keeps the fun in point-and-shoot digital photography. I would love to recoment this item to anyone.

Drawbacks:

The battery knob is not of A+ grade and will break in some months. Why I am so sure is because it happned with my uncles camera and with mine too.

Kodak - Buy at a risk
Sep 30, 2006 11:45 PM 5624 Views

I have a Kodak digital CX7525. It has several features ( for the sake of it's competitors) but the main function of a standard good camera is also there. The picture quality is good and there are different options with auto/settings that help you in trouble free shoots.....then why write this review....well, there are few things you need to be aware of, and then, there is the Achilles' Heal - that makes this Kodak Digital camera - a risky buy.

The camera uses power like a 7 year old uses chocolates...so always keep an extra set with you. If you are using too much of flash or the option of night shooting...then keep some more batteries...and if you are going somewhere in the snow...don't take this camera or carry a bucket full of charged batteries.

The other aspect is the digital zoom, why it is added to the camera, or for that matter, any camera, is a big wonder to me....because I have yet to see a proper picture out of a digital zoom, they are mostly blurred and mismatched. The only effective zoom is your Optical Zoom and this camera does justice to that.

The Achilles Heal is the software in the camera. There is an Error and I have got this error myself and found notes about this error at different forums in the internet. The Error is called 'Error #B03' and it will come on your display (pray it dosen't). This is an error for which Kodak themselves have not provided any explanation and the only way out is to take the camre to the service centre. Why it comes...there is no official explanation, but to my experience and from my study of others' experince as mentioned in the internet forums - it is largely a software problem that occurs while downloading the photos from the camera. If it happens during the warranty period you are saved and there is no guarantee that it will not occur again. The plum in the pudding is, this error is not restricted only to CX7525 and I have reports on this error from other Kodak users also.

Once this Error happens, the camera simply freezes and you can not use or boot it. Since this is a high-end error it is better you go to a KODAK service centre, and by the number of them that you have around...you may guess how long it takes for your camera to come back.

Since the reason for occurrance of this error is not disclosed, the problem can come anytime to anybody......and when it comes....don't blame me...I did my best :-))

Never buy this
Sep 14, 2006 03:24 PM 2620 Views

I bought this as an entry level camera for my photography ambitions. First I was amazed at its poor battery life. Then I had a hard time getting my 2GB SanDisk memory card to work in it. I simply would'nt format it. Then I lost all pics I had taken on my sister's engagement ceremony in EasyShare. Sometimes it just shuts down in the middle of a session . What's the use of a camera if you can't trust it to work at some crucial moment? The best part is the Kodak's after-purchase support. They dont have a owned service center in a big city like Delhi. The local franchisee service is very sloppy, far from what you would expect from a multi-national company. I've accepted the fact that my money is gone down the drain. I suggest going for Nikon or even Sony. Even if you are a starter, I suggest you go for a above 5 MP camera. I used to think that Sony just has the technology, but kodak has the domain expertise of a century in photography. I was wrong.

A camera worth buying

Lovely camera for amatures
Aug 17, 2006 06:26 PM 2006 Views

Dear MS readers..

I bought this nice camera about 6 months back in Bangalore. Paid about 15K w/o memory stick. It has a in built battery which has life about 120 clicks... (in outdoors u can it hangs on for about 160 clicks).. it gets charged easy and fast.

Earlier I had a minolta and I was tired of recharging the battery for the same.

The most attractive thing about this camera is that, it can be carried even in your jeans pocket.. it fits like T .....

The video quality is very good and sound reproduction is also very good...

The photo quality is great both indoors as well outdoors...

The operations are easy and can be operated really fast...

One problem i'm facing is that while taking video if you move the zoom, the zoom lens sound is also captured in the video.

The over eposure and under exposure features are really handy when your clicking the objects with different contrasts...

The zoom works and like any other digi cams donot use digital zooms...

PROSUMER digital camera for people with a budget
Aug 08, 2006 03:49 PM 4448 Views

Buy this Prosumer for the following reasons After extensive research & reading great many reviews from many websites I have come to the conclusion that Kodak Z650 Mega zoom Prosumer Digital Camera makes more sense than it’s more expensive rivals. I will give 2 main reasons why you should buy this product IF you are on a budget and also want to get a great Prosumer Camera before you move onto a Digital SLR in a couple of years time. I will compare the Kodak Z650 with Cannon S2 Is or Sony DSC I to make my point.

However I would like to caution readers that Cannon S2Is & Sony DSC H1 are GREAT products & are in no way inferior to Kodak Z650. Having said that they are a bit expensive (Cannon is way too expensive) for the features that they are offering. If you are planning on buying a good Prosumer Digital Camera with 10X (or more) optical zoom and are considering between Kodak Z650, Cannon S2 IS or Sony DSC H1, look not further than Kodak Z650 because: 1. Kodak Z650 (6 Mega Pixels) costs just 19500/- including 1 GB SD memory card, Lens adapter, 4 Ni-Mh batteries & a charger. Now compare that with Cannon S2 Is (5 Mega Pixels only, NO bundled memory card, NO lens adapter, NO charger NO batteries) which is Rs.32500. (If you add 1GB memory card + batteries + charger Cannon will set you back by almost another Rs.4000 bringing the total cost to Rs.35500/- Sony DSC H1 (5 mega Pixels only, lens adapter, NO bundled memory card, NO charger or batteries) which costs Rs.25000 (If you add 1 GB memory card + batteries + charger Sony will set you back by almost another Rs.3000 bringing the total cost to Rs.28000/- 2.

Agreed that Cannon & Sony come with 12X optical (whereas Kodak is giving 10Xoptical) but look at the price tag, it is almost half the price of Cannon. So you can use the money that you would otherwise spend on Cannon and buy additional lenses for Kodak such as wide angle lens Rs.1500 + close-up lens Rs.1500+ telephoto lensRs.4000, neutral density lens Rs.2000, polarizer lens Rs.1000, UV filter Rs.1000 & a Tripod Rs.1000 (Kodak Z650 does not have optical image stabilization so you need a Tripod). With all those amazing add-on lenses it will cost just as much a Cannon S2 Is would cost. Once you add those lenses to your Kodak Z650 WITH THE MONEY YOU HAVE SAVED INSTEAD OF BUYING a MORE EXPENSIVE PROSUMER CAMERA you get an amazingly powerful camera that will far surpass both Sony & Cannon Prosumers, ALL FOR AROUND Rs.31000/- only now compare that with what the other 2 cameras have to offer and make your decision.

The final verdict on Kodak CX7300
Jun 14, 2006 07:52 AM 2970 Views

It's a decent camera, the picture quality and resolution is good, very much printable. I felt the absence of inbuilt batteries is a big drawback, and you need to spend on good nickel hydride batteries (take an extra pair for backup as power consumption is huge specially with the LCD on). Additionally you need a memory card as internal memory is only 16MB (just enough for 12-15 pictures). And forget this camera if you intend to make movies, as there is no audio recording as well as requires quicktime with not-so-good output. Price is a big puller though, I purchased the basic camera (less the additional memory card, batteries) at 6500, which I still feel is good-value-for-money.

Repairs are costly. I accidentally broke my LCD screen and had to cough Rs 3120/- at the authorised service center (remember the cost price of the camera was Rs 6500).

Go ahead and buy thic camera, but keep in mind the caveats above.

Quality pictures at a low price

Introduction

My nephew got married last June and we wanted to record the happy event ourselves. My brother said he would get me a camera to take some snaps with and after the wedding I could keep the camera for my own personal use. I had taken photos with a big Nikon previously this produced excellent photos it was not a digital and used expensive film and processing technology so I was interested to compare to two. The Nikon was at my mum's house so I could not use it on the day.

The Kodak CX7300 came in a smart box which has the orange colour usual with Kodak products. The camera looked very small when I opened the box I wondered if it would do the job. At 150g it is much lighter than my previous Nikon. I wondered if my brother new what he was doing. It slipped into my jacket pocket easily as off to the wedding I went. Compared to another camera I had, a flat one in the early 90's, it seemed fairly large the picture quality on that camera was terrible another cause for concern? The Kodak felt nice with a plastic shiny body nothing like the big black Nikon I had used previously it also seemed a bit flimsy. Not having time to read all the instructions as the wedding had begun I started to use it.

Using it

The Kodak CX7300 is easy to use aimed at beginners. The getting started leaflet provided me with simple picture instructions. I put two small AA batteries in the camera and started clicking away. A more detailed user guide is provided in a lot of different languages. Taking pictures was easy. The camera has an automatic built-in flash. Using the standard viewfinder or the camera's screen if the picture was not good I deleted right away so still have room for more photos. There is a "review" button, four arrow buttons, a "delete" button and an "OK" button. The camera's built in memory held 21 pictures on the setting it came since the I have changed the setting and it will now take 67 I did this when transferring the photo's to my PC. Additional memory cards can increase this capacity with up to 64MB available. I also used the camera to take a 30 second video stream this does not have sound however.

Quality of Photos

Picture quality was excellent and the pictures are huge when the standard setting is used. The 3.2 megapixel resolution is perfect. The resolution prints out perfectly on photographic papers and is so good it was a shock. The big Nikon I had been using previously was made to look totally out of date. The photos actually are that much better.

Software

Kodak Easy share software that comes with the camera allows easy down load into a PC. I said to my brother make sure you get one with a USB cable and it was supplied with the camera. The software makes it simple for me to store my photographs crop them and it automatically places them in a dated folder, but you can of course set up your own filing system. It's all dead easy.

Power

As I said the camera is battery powered by two AA sized batteries. I am careful about switching on/off to save them. Rechargeable batteries will be useful if it is used a lot two batteries come with it they lasted for the wedding and a bit longer. When they go the camera will just not work properly.

Overall

I as an occasional photographer was amazed at how good this camera was this camera is a major advance on any I had used previously. It was what I needed and at a price that is excellent value considering the Nikon was £500 fifteen years ago and is not in the same league as far as convenience ease of use and quality of pictures go. I have since sold the Nikon for £20 on e bay the buyer thought he got a bargain but it is now a museum piece. The Kodak can be used by kids it's that good. If you take a lot of photos it can be updated to 64MB which would allow for hundreds to be taken. The Kodak CX 7300 is recommend if you have a PC and want a cheap camera for every day snapping no need to worry about film quality it even has a timer if you want everyone in on the picture.

Kodak C360 - Good buy
May 04, 2006 09:28 PM 2241 Views

This is a 5.0MP ,3X Opt Zoom 5X Dig Zoom Digital camera . I compared with the Canon / Sony equivalents. I found this is a Good one to recommend for starters as well as elders who wants to own a nice little digicam with a host of good features.

On the picture quality side , the performance is stunning especially in the day when I compared with cannon and Olympus. But on the night performance there is not much to write home about. It has a good video resolution of 640X480 and offers decent frames (24fps ??) but on video mode it literally eats up the memory and output is in quick time format..

I bought this in Dec 05 and it is working fine even after one fall . ( I think all these Digicams are designed to fall from our grip!!)

Definitely a Good buy and I wish this cam had a 10X optical zoom !!

Affordable digital camera Kodak Easy share c330
Apr 27, 2006 04:48 PM 3068 Views

The C330 has a remarkable still picture quality. It stays the same even if you choose the lower 1.0 MP resolution. The multiple flash with automatic red-eye reduction works well too. The zoom is also one of its plus points. Also, the on-camera cropping feature allows you to discard the unwanted parts from pictures.

The video mode is fixed at 320 x 240 pixels and 20 frames per second and the quality is good but audio capture is not so good. The video quality is good but you have to set the focus (zoom) before starting the video capture as the camera doesn't allow you to zoom in or out in the middle of a recording.

But, one of the most significant limitations is the battery life. It demands 2 pairs of cells to capture 50 pictures and around 3 minutes of video footage. Thus a set of rechargeable heavy duty batteries is a must for this cam.

Apart from the limiting factors, overall performance of the camera is good and at times better than what we can expect at that price. The C330 is available for around Rs. 7500 with a one year warranty, and is a good buy for new or first time users who want a easy-to-use digital camera with a fair amount of features.

Strictly for Children
Apr 26, 2006 04:47 AM 2679 Views

When I went for a Digital Camera, price was the biggest factor and that it why I bought this camera. Also I was in a hurry and so did not check out the features in detail. My mistake. So here is what is my experience of almost one year with the Kodak CX7300.

Pros:

Price: The most inexpensive camera I found on the market.

Interface: Easy to get used to and easy to use.

Video: Recording quality is decent. Video files are saved as ''MOV'' files. You need Quicktime to view them.

Value for Money: Given its price, I think it is an average deal. Go for it ONLY if you urgently need to have a digital camera, but do not have the money.

Neutral:

Batteries: Uses Nickel Metal Halide batteries, which means extra expenditure on them. And uses a LOT of battery power when the LCD is on. So I would suggest buying 2 pairs of batteries.

Timer: 10 second timer available.

Night mode: The Night Mode is useful in very dark conditions, but most cameras fair better in this feature.

Memory: 16MB internal memory, which can be upgraded using a SD Memory Card. Extra costs here.

Cons:

LCD: The screen size is small, so you cannot easily make out the quality of snaps taken, until you actually transfer the images to the Laptop.

Video: The record duration is limited to 30 seconds only after which it stops automatically. Also, Audio is NOT recorded.

Zoom: Only 3x zoom available and that too Digital, so the resolution of snaps taken in this mode is really bad. No Optical zoom.

The whole set costed me...

Camera - 6500

Memory Card - 1000

Batteries - 250

Camera Case - 450

------------------------------

Total Cost: Rs. 8200 (Much more than my original budget!!!)

___________________________________________________________________

Final Verdict: Put in some more money and go for something better (Maybe the Kodak CX7330)

Why pay $300.00 or more for a camera when you can get one for free. All you have to do is go to the site listed below, sign up (no money required) and refer your friends.

This site was referred to me by a friend of mine and neither of us could believe it but it really worked. All the other sites that offer free products or gift cards want you to fill out 6 or more stupid offers and pay for something. It seems like the offers go on forever and it's never anything you want.

But this one is different. Just sign up and refer ten of your friends to thier site and they will ship you a free camera (4 to choose from) some pretty expensive models to choose from. It's the easiest thing I've ever done. Just go to:

https://digitalcameras.freepay.com/?r=28846899

and get your free camera :)

Battery Guzzler but sleek
Feb 13, 2006 03:25 PM 2146 Views

A bit over priced in this price category.. LCD could have been a bit more bigger. Cant adjust the brightness & contrast of the screen. The LCD displays the images to be dark. Put the prints turn our to be great and fantastic. But believe me this in one battery guzzler. Drains out very soon. Believe me I had to change 4 sets of Duracell batteries just within 3 hrs time and I had just captured about 10 to 15 snaps..

Easy to operate. Very simple even a child can operate it ..Can store images in various sizes. can capture images in various formats. The knob on the top for selecting the menu is bit jerky. looks very delicate. I think that it is not worth more than 10 k..A bit overpriced. You have to put an extended memory card as well. that costs something around 1000 bucks. And the original sony battery(rechargeable one's are very very very expensive)

You can play back on TV. And yes you can capture video..5 mints only:-)

Kodak Easy Share Dx7590 - Smart and Simple
Dec 23, 2005 10:33 PM 2662 Views

This is one camera that is value for Money!!! It has the high end features that an ace photographer would die for and also the simple functionality for a part time photographer like me. The Video recording option is also fantastic and I have captured many a happy moment with my little son into this wonderful digital camera. The best part about this camera is the ease with which we can use it and the simplicity in connecting to a PC and printing / burning the pictures and videos.

If I am forced to find one weakness in this beauty, it would be that the video recording does not allow the user to utilise the zoom functions. Perhaps this would also happen in the later models (I dont know if there is one already in the market).

The camera may be a tad bulky when compared to its counterparts from the canon or the nikon stable, but what the hell, I would always go for a bulky camera than a bulky bill!!!

This is certainly an entry level digital camera because the picture quality is not 100% satisfactory. However it is an ''automatic'' camera which means that you switch it on and start clicking. There are three settings possible-one for ordinary snaps, one for night photography and the third for 30 second video clips. However there is no provision for sound recording and there is certainly no SLR facility.According to the documentation with the camera the resolution of each picture is 2080x1544 pixels. The camera prints upto 11x14 inches.Coming to printing it helps if you have a digital camera printer so that you can print at home. However if the printer is not available it is fine to burn CDs of each set of snaps you click. You can give interested people CDs and they can print at their own convenience. Its actually a great arrangement provided you have a USB port. Each time you click you can preview on a 1.6 inch LCD monitor which is somewhat large in comparison to the camera which kind of fits in the palm. The camera has 3X continuous optical zoom.I don't know what that means. The camera has 16 MB internal memory. The camera has a friendly price that of Rs 6900/-.Its a great camera to go digital with. However as someone who has used a non-digital camera extensively I am not completely satisfied with the quality of the images. Its a great marvel of modern technology though.

Canon A520
Dec 13, 2005 12:25 AM 3217 Views

I got my first digital camera during the thanksgiving time on black friday. As mentioned in title I purchased the Canon A 520. At this time of the year all electronics are cheaper than the prices offered at all other times. My camera does not come with a carry case as it is handy and can be slid into any regular trousers or chinos but not jeans.

the criteria I took into consideration<b/>

Resolution: I had decided upon the 4 pixel resolution mainly because of price considerations and thats enough for an amateur photographer who takes pics for hobby.

Digital zoom: 3.6 x which is the amount of times a picture is magnified if you want to focus on a part of a image. one thing to consider is that using too much digital zoom causes the image to blurr which is not good news.

optical zoom; 4x was enough for me as I generally dont take long ranging shots. I generally take wild life photos so I cant go too close to the creatures as they get scared so I went for this.

Memory: this camera came with an external memory card, but had only 16MB of memory. not enough for someone who is going for long trips to many states or for long days. better to buy a memory card with atleast 512MB memory.

Cost of the camera: $190 including tax and accessories which include cables to connect to TV. USB port with cable . can be connected to a portable DVD player, Television, printers, PC.

Comes with a software to download photos from camera and also has features to edit pictures and also to add effects to pictures.

other features:

Versatile shooting modes include auto, portrait, landscape, night scene, fast shutter, slow shutter, shutter priority, aperture priority, manual, movie mode and stitch-assist mode

8 special scene modes include foliage, snow, beach, fireworks, underwater, indoor, kids/pets and night snapshot

Auto, daylight, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent, fluorescent H and custom white balance controls to achieve natural tones under different lighting conditions; built-in auto flash with red-eye reduction and flash on/off modes

Special photo effects include black-and-white, sepia, vivid, low sharpening and neutral for creative images

Video mode with audio captures video clips at 640 x 480, 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 resolutions (up to 3 minutes, 30 seconds maximum at 640 x 480 resolution)

the pictures can be downloaded with any windows version. software installation not needed.

My First digital camera. It was gifted to me. The camera is small and handy ( but doesnt come with a carry case). It is good for Amateurs ( but only for Amateurs !!).

The camera doesnt have much in terms of options and features and with a 32 MB in built memory hardly any storage space ( exp at hi-res). 3.2 MP so pretty ok for first time users. In India the price is somewhere around the 6k range so price wise its fairly OK.

The major issues i've had with it is that its power hungry. DOnt even think of using it with normal cells ...it wont even boot most of the time ( even with a brand new battey).

You will have to buy a NiCd rechargable battery or your costs will be prohibitive.

The accompaning software is a bit heavy and will slow ur mc down. If you have XP avoid installing it as XP will download the pics just as well.

For a longer trip a Flash Card is a must ( at least 128MB). ALso the flash is good only for indoor photography.

A good camera if you want to take family indoor snaps ...for any thing else look for something better!

Its been a year I went for this model after a lot of market survey spanning different models and different copany digital cameras. I had to arrive upon this 7430 because of several reasons and the primary reason was my budget limitation of 12K-13K.

The camera is really handy and I have used it in all modes and resolutions. I prefer the low resolution mode which offers terrific output on high end printing papers. I am very much satisfied. Pictures taken in daylight are just too good. Night mode photographs are bit disheartening wherei its better to use a camera stand for better results. using a stand has given nice results.

Videos in high resolution mode only is meaningful. the low resolution mode is not good. I have put a Lexar SD card of 256 MB capacity and it fulfils my needs. I need not use the camera software that comes with the camera for transferring pics to the PC. A card reader is what I carry since it can be easily managed once you are moving around different places across different computers for downloading data. nowadays every system has XP loaded so its just USB plug and play. No hassles of installing the camera connection software on every machine where you want to download pics.

The Kodak batteries that come with the camera gives you service to a limited extent and thereafter you have to go for rechargeable batteries otherwise it is not economical. Rechargeable batteries of 2200 mAh power is recommended. I use Camelion batts and I am getting appreciable results.

The setup menu of the camera is not so appealing as that of Nikon or other makes. But I am satisfied because the menu is simple. Its easy to understand. The microphone for audio recording during video shooting is very good. Audio output is very clear for recorded videos. I have tried to view the output through the supplied TV cord connecting to a TV and it is really exciting.

Since this camera is basically a digital still camera, please dont expect that the video output to be like that of camcorders. You cannot expect a smoothness in the video even at high resolution mode. So if you are shooting at a place do not change your angle of shooting frequently and be very slow and gradual in your movements.
