Kodak EasyShare P880 Reviews

Excellent value for money
Feb 19, 2009 12:16 PM 3759 Views

Fed up of using my cell phone camera with limited creative control, I finally decided to buy a littlemore expensive camera.

Altough I would anytime like to get my hands on a DSLR, however was out of my budget. An more obvious choice for me was to buy a prosumer/bridge (between DSLR and point-and-shoot) camera. Since then I've been hunting for the 'one' that fit my needs, and more importantly, my budget.

Thats how I landed on the Z1015 from Kodak. Priced at 15k from Croma, it was the perfect camera for my needs as well as my pocket.

Some of the camera features are as follows:

-15X optical zoom lens (SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIOGON)

-f/3.5 28 mm wide-angle lens

-10 MP

-0.20 sec. picture-capture speed

-high ISO up to 6400

-HD video capture

-Manual control in Aperture, Shutter speed, Exposure etc

-Check out rest of them here https://kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=13040&pq-locale=en_US

For a mere 15k, this a feature packed camera. The camera also has an optical stabilizer, for takingsharp pictures at high zoom even if your camera is shaking a bit. With manual modes (PASM), you can control every aspet of your picture. On the other hand, you can also use it as a point-and-shoot camera.

Just click the button, and the camera will do the rest. It has both a viewfinder and a LCD screen and lets you view videos, slideshows etc. Bundled is a 2GB SD card. I was able to fit more than 600 pictures at 8MP in the card. Battery life is decent and acceptable, since these cameras are power hungry.

Altough it is always recommended to buy a spare battery. You can charge the battery while it is in the camera through a bundled cable. Again, it is recommended that you buy (sigh) a separate charger.

Now its time for the drawbacks. The camera startup is a little slow. Also, when the camera starts, the lens protrude even if the lens cap is on, and the lens cap simply is 'thrown' off the lens.

This may damage the delicate lens mechanism, because you are likely to forget to remove the lens cap before turning the camera on. I do. The zooming mechanism is sluggish and is not responsive, especially when you are zooming out and you release the zoom button.

All things said, for its price, this is a very excellent buy. No other product features the same functionalities at this price. Although not at all meant for professionals, if you are new at photography and want a decent camera with manual control over various picture parameters which will go easy on your pockets, this is it!

Here are some pictures taken with this camera:

Good product for every day use
Feb 09, 2009 10:15 AM 4175 Views

This camera is really a good product for those who wish to have good pics from every day life. I recently used this product for taking pics on Goa beaches and hill stations, even during the travel in Train and flight, and the results are really good.

User friendly menus make it easy to take pics in different environmental conditions, like bright or dim or no light conditions. It is particularly useful for taking pics of moving objects, like kids. The close up pics quality is also exceptionally good.

The battery life is also damn good. The product when I purchased, all other things were provided with it like battery, charger, 1 GB card and the camera pouch. The only thing would have made this product really No 1 is that, while capturing video, there should have been the choice for keeping the flash light on. The best thing is, any one with basic knowledge of taking pics can take good pics with this camera.

KODAK Z1275 DIGITAL CAMERA
Feb 03, 2009 03:44 PM 2827 Views

Product :Kodak Digital Camera Z1275

Product Serial : KCXW75000446

Invoice : 41778428191 Date: 24 January 2009

Complaint : 1. Video Clip are not able to play by standard (Philips) DVD players even after. I have burn the DVD with Kodak EasyShare (Company provided software)

  1. Under High Image Stabilization mode picture is getting blurred when object is In minor moving condition.

  2. Battery consumption is very high. I have committed by Reliance Digital sales

staff 110 snaps per set of Alkaline battery. I have used Duracell Digital Camera Battery and 2700 MAH Rechargeable Battery which takes only on an average 45 snaps and about 5 minutes video recording.

Returned Back to ResQ Section : 27 January 2009

Staus : Problem unsolved as on date Feb 02, 09

After making direct enquiry to the Kodak Service Centre, I have told that this is technically mistake in the camera so that recorded video clip will not play in DVD player and you may do it by purchasing relevant converter software in the market (which is cost me nearby to the cost of the same camera).

I have specifically asked regarding this at the time of buying, I have told that you cannot play directly plug & Play but you have to transfer through company provided software. Usually if you by any product like I-pod you will get one installer CD which coverts other formats of Audio & Video compatible to I-pod. In this camera there is option of recording High Definition Television (HD) compatible video clip recording, very commonly across the globe Television attached to VCD/MP3/DVD player not with computer system.

So either the company provided software should burn CD/DVD which should compatible to play in such players but Kodak EasyShare software can’t convert the same.Supposing if this is the common problem then it should be communicated to me by your well dressed but knowledge-less sales team, even in product User Manual doesn’t provide detailed technical specifications nor anywhere mentioned regarding non compatibility of video clip in VCD/DVD player. If the highly educated customer could be got deceived by ambiguous set of information in User Manual and Reliance Digital Sales Team what will happen to normal customer.

A problem in this camera, which I feel is a defect*!

I bought the digital camera to shoot the video of small few month old baby and the shop keeper convinced me it was great especially since there has been discount on camera price.

However, there is something which nobody told me. The video quality is very poor when video is shot inside building even during day time.

This means any time you want to shoot a video, you got to take the camera where there is proper light. Even video shot in tube light in the room does not come good. I am calling this a defect mainly because of 3 reasons.

  1. No where it is mentioned that this camera(for video) cannot be used in poor conditions.

  2. Many other brand cameras, which comes at the same or cheaper cost including those in ordinary mobile phones with just 1.3 MP have better clarity video.

  3. I recently came across Kodak's M series camera where this problem seems to have been rectified.

In the C-713, all adjustments for light can be made for shootingpictures under any light condition. However, the problem is that when you move the rotating switch to the video mode, it has to pass through Auto mode where all this setting is reset resulting in poor light. This I feel was a design problem as I found in the Kodak M series(the particular one I saw) the video mode location has been shifted so that the light setting does not get reset when shifting to Video mode.

There is heavy discount on the C713(i got for Rs. 5500/- now available at Rs.5000/-) and C813, but for those who want to take video under different light conditions, you better compare it with other brands or even the same brand Kodak with M series.

My experience is that the video shot in poor light condition using C713 was very bad compared to even videos taken under same light condition on an equivalent priced another brand or even for that matter a Sony, Samsung, or Nokia 1.3 or so megapixel camera.

Conclusion: Good for taking still pictures, worth for money. However, if you want to take videos under all light conditions, you just cannot adjust video light settings and there are other models and brands which give better quality picture in the same light condition for video and may be even for the same price!

Say Cheese

Hi All,

Camera and that too a digital one is a matter of personal choice and actual purpose. My requirements were:

Around 8 Megapixels

Around 10/11 thousands or less

Easy to use

A well Known brand (Sony/Canon/Nikon)

Good image quality and some good features

As a usual habit, I started digging the market for all the models of almost all the brands available and matching my requirements. Also went through many reviews of my own MS family members. Once, was in Pune Central and came across Kodak V1003. The agent informed me that it’s a new launch and is with a very huge discount. The MRP printed on the box was 17999 with 10.1 megapixels capacity! And he quoted me Rs.10000 flat! My eyes jumped in joy listening to such a figure for such a high resolution camera.

I was not sure to go for any Kodak camera ab initio. I was looking for Sony/Cannon. But the same resolutions with these brands were ranging between 17/18+ K (At that time). I made the agent remove all the similar cameras of all the brands and tried to justify as to why I should go for Kodak and not Sony/Canon.

Reasons for choosing Kodak V1003:

  1. EXTREMELY EASY TO USE - Even a novice can tell from the buttons, as to the functioning of the camera. As a matter of fact I was on the go within 5 minutes to operate it without the agent informing me anything in detail. (It was my first exp on a digital camera)

  2. 10.1 Mega pixels: The quality of the pictures is just awesome - Just awesome. I was testing the quality of the picture, and was amazed with the results on the screen. (Well this cam comes with a 2.5" inch LCD screen which is quite good). The difference between a 7.2/8 megapixel and 10.1 mg is clearly measurable.

  3. Rate: 11K with 1 GB memory card with such a huge resolution is just irresistible and most economical than any other camera available. And you can get around 345 photos with 10.1 mg resolution!

  4. Precise design and easy handling.

  5. Amazing features/modes and easy to share prints set up with any media to take prints

  6. It has panoramic view mode wherein you can take 3 snaps in a shot and these 3 snaps get stitched in a one big picture - Superb. Normally, in many you can take panoramic photos but to make them one pic you have to crop it on a computer. Try out this option at a beach or a hill side and be happy that you have some real good camera in your hands.! All the snaps on MS are taken from the same cam, so you can check the quality.

  7. I t also has video recording mode with amazing clarity. You can shoot videos according to the data card that you are using. Video quality is goo too.

The list goes on....

Now some negatives:

  1. Only Lithium batteries. (So easy AA batteries are ruled out)

  2. Sometimes the camera becomes a bit hot at battery side - if used continuously

  3. Shutter is a bit longer as compared to other cameras. (Need to work on some settings though)

Accessories:

I got one tripod stand + USB jack to transfer the photos to the computer + Neck cord + installation CD + charger and a nice case.

Finally, I can that this is a good camera for non professional use, parties, trips and some domestic uses. It’s economical and easy to use so you can SAY CHEESE......

Thank you for reading such a long review. Waiting for your ratings and comments...... Smile please....

Kodak M893 IS - Bad Quality Images
Dec 29, 2008 12:22 PM 2121 Views

Kodak M893 IS has big feature list such as different scenic modes, image stabilisation, zoom etc, but the main feature - "picture quality" is really bad.

If you try to click image in evening time or at night, then it will give very bad quality pics. If we try to use High ISO mode (meant to be used at night), then pic is completely blurred and there is lot of noise added to the picture. Also, this camera is very slow in processing, once an image is clicked then it take few seconds to be ready to click another image. Moreover the box doesn’t contain camera pouch. You need to buy it separately.

Before using this Kodak 8.2 mega pixel camera, I had an Canon 4.2 MP camera and I feel, Canon 4.2 MP camera was much better than this Kodak camera. It's a totally waste of your money and moreover you will miss to capture good images for some of your golden moments on the camera.

Best Value Shooter

Best Value Shooter.

Yes. It is best value for money. I never had such a best value for the money I spent. While I return from SFO, CA, USA , I took many pictures in the SFO Beach, while I travel in the BAART, while travel by car and even from the flight with the help of my KODAK C713 which I bought for $ 92 with 1 MB card from Walgreens Walnutcreek, CA.

Very Good picture quality, I took best pictures while I was flying to singapore from SFO ; no need to speak about shutter speed. Really very good.

Initially I suspect about the quality because it is too low price comparing to other brands. But once I become to use, I feel fantastic experience. Now it becomes the part of my life. Wherever I go I am alwyas with my KODAK..

Very good and those who like shooting may choose this best camera...

How Digital Photography Reached The Aam Aadmi !!
Dec 19, 2008 04:47 PM 7245 Views

Worlds best photographer: Not only was my Nazarein good, I also always had a good eye. So naturally I was good at capturing beauty not just with my eyes, but with any available cameras too! ;-) But what made someone call me ‘worlds best photographer without a own camera’ was that I had no digital camera except for 2 film roll camera, which I haven’t touched in the last 4 years – thanks to my friends who always lent me their digicams whenever I wanted. Infact the best photos from their camera came when I was behind it!

Having handled feature-rich, DSLR like megazoom cameras like the sony H series, Canon S2, S3, S5 & Kodak Z series. I was only inclined to buy one of these & had done a lot of research on cameras that had more than 12x optical zoom. All this knowledge came handy for my friends who sought my advice & even company when they went digicam shopping. My after-sales role included training them on the usage, in return of which I got the camera whenever I wanted. All this said & done I was still without a own digicam despite having shortlisted my model & wanting even to get it from US.

Mom’s words of wisdom: I don’t belive in the term ‘cash crunch due to economic slowdown’ because even when ‘india was shining’ or ‘economy was blooming’ I didn’t have money to buy my camera ;-). So days passed as I kept waiting for the prices to come down here. Getting cam from US didn’t make sense as dollar kept gaining against the rupess – rendering the price difference to the least in most cases. Everyday a flower bloomed in our pots, I used to tell my mom how beautiful a close-up of the flower wud look. She too was fed up of my ‘research’ & ‘postponing’. Finally she said “don’t wait for the next flower to bloom to capture it on cam, instead get a cam today & capture the flower as it blooms, not when its withering” . effectively what she said was “kal ho na ho” & “apne aukad pe aana & buy a camera that fits ur current budget”. I decided to obey my mom. ;-)

Offer: I was looking for offers on digicams when during diwali Kodak came with real-tempting offer. On the menu was a Kodak easyshare C713 camera, 2GB SD card, Kodak charger + 2 rechargable cells, 2 alkaline cells, pouch – all for 5K. I did quick research on this model of camera & compared it with basic 3x optical zoom cameras from other makers & was convinced that this one was a good deal. I also checked a similar model from Kodak, which a friend had & found it good enough considering the cost & features & performance.

Features: As I have said in video, this is one of those cameras which can be listed under ‘basic digital cameras’, hence its features are something a basic aam aadmi can be happy about. It has 3x optical zoom (which any digicam will have these days) & 5x digital zoom ( don’t use it ever). In aam aadmi terms what 3x means is “imagine taking a pic of a TV from 2ft without zooming, the same can be achieved with zoom, standing 6ft away”. But please note that while zoom can reach, flash may not reach there! ;-)

Product Features:7-megapixel resolution for stunning prints up to 20 x 30 inches, 3x optical zoom lens, 5x digital zoom; HD still capture and VGA video

2.4-inch indoor/outdoor color LCD, Digital image stabilization reduces blur ( to some extent, but not like optical image stabilization)

optical_sensor_technology: CCD, Optical zoom: 3x

maximum_aperture_range: F/2.7-4.8

Minimum focal length: 36 millimeters

Maximum focal length: 108 millimeters

Lens Type: Zoom lens

optical_sensor_size: 1/2.5"

Included Flash Type: Built-in flash

Display Size: 2.4 inches

light_sensitivity: ISO 100, ISO 800, ISO 400, ISO 200, ISO 80, ISO auto (80-200), ISO 1250

Shooting Modes: Frame movie mode 640x480, 320x240

Exposure Control Type: Candle, Beach, Document, Snow, High sensitivity, Landscape, Portrait mode, Close-up, Museum, Back light, Night portrait, Self-portrait, Children, Fireworks, Night landscape, Flower, Sports mode, Sunset

Width: 3.6 inches Depth: 1.5 inches Height: 2.6 inches Weight: 136grams

Plus points: 7Mega pixels ensures pics of resolution 3056x2292 which are good enough clear for large prints too. The optical zoom is much better than I expected. Also the lens movement is smooth without any noises. We can also use optical zoom while video recording. The display is good & energy efficient but in bright lights its difficult to see, as there is no settings separately for the LCD. Very lightweight & fits well in one hand too. I also like the photo & video editing options included in the camera.

Negatives: only 3x optical zoom ( but then I have seen my friend who with even 12x zoom says its not enough, yeh optical zoom ki greed kabh bhujegi? ;-) . If only Kodak had included EVF, we could save LCD display use in daytime, which is not clearly visible in bright sunlight anyways. 10 seconds delay between pics is too much, its must be adjustable, say by turning off the image preview as the user needs.

Observations: I have used it nearly 2 months & taken 1200+ pics & many videos. We also have printed around 100 pics in 4x6 sizes. I am happy with the results. Also I am one of those who belive ‘good photography is not just in the camera’, I am sure I can come up with greater pics with this basic digicam. The cam is as good as any for normal bright outdoor pics. If one explores the various scene modes one can come up with the best options to use in indoor & low light settings.

Verdict: having compared similar featured cameras from various makers, I am convinced that this is the best buy – for no other is offering these features, these freebies at this low cost. C713 is an example to prove “impressive need not be expensive”. I will be surely upgrading to high end, mega zoom cameras when the economy looks good (??) but until then this will be the lab where I do all my digital photography experiments. This is best buy for someone who wants to explore digital photography at low cost, with lots of features.

Good looks
Dec 10, 2008 07:52 PM 1947 Views

Photo quality during night is very poor, only in day time (outdoor) photo quality is good, many different modes are there for different timings that is good, but in auto function the photo quality is not satisfactory, Indoor photography is also not perfect even if it is 8.0 mega pixel camera, pixcels comes in the photos. Functions are comparatively very easy and can be used by anyone without any difficulty .

Picture quality in terms of colour, the camera gives natural colours, some times it does't require colour corrections, specially when the photo is taken in outdoor. Its battery life is very good, the camera is very slick and handy. The display screen is very big and good to view photos. But the only exterior looks is good in this camera instead of technical properties.

So I found the camera is OK not good.. It is not value for money.

Good Camera (earlier Reasonable Camera)

*Kodak Z 1275

Revised Opinion:

Image Size*

This product I purchased in August 2008. It was costing Rs.9000 at that time.(Now it will cost around 4000 bucks if it is still in market) Through 12 mega pixel image gives good results. If you want to enlarge a picture to use as wall paper this is best size. The picture quality is really good. Image stabilisation function is however not there. It is a big drawback. Flash is also not so great.(But if you go to manual settings, which I tried after 3 years, you can still take very good pictures in low light. I tried to take pictures of moon in the month of march when it was close to earth. I could mark the details on moon surface. The image quality is so good)

Storage

I tried couple of videos at night. under bright light the image quality is really good. It can also record sound along with image in picture mode and of course video mode. Using SD card is better. It can support up to 2 GB memory SD card.(Though this is not big space, you can still store 1 hour video recording and around 300 images). Built in memory is only 64 MB.(So make your memory card as default storage. This option is available) So I generally set the image at 6 or 9 mega pixel to accomodate more images. If you want to see the photos on 42 LCD you can still get good quality on 6mp mode.

CD for picture/movie edit

The accompaning CD for software is also useful. I could sort and edit my photos, improve their lighting and sharpness. You don't need to be computer savy for that. It is lot of fun. You get connecting cord and cable along with the camera. But if your system have SD card slot, you can directly copy it.

Charger and batteries

Some dealers are giving battry charger along with rechargeble batteries. Others generally don't give. However, it is always better to insist for charger. When you use flash, the batteries get discharges in 20 shots. Prolonged viewing of LCD consumes more battry power. So, don't spend much time on views in LCD. Better to go for rechargeble battries. There is AC adopter plug. You can use it if you need. That saves lot .

Cost

I guess the cost is very economical. It should not cost more than 5K. For 12 mp camera it is not a bad deal.

Other Functions:

You can take good quality videos(.mov) you can take multiple still shots, panorama is best one you can have, red eye reduction, almost 16 modes of different situations that helps you to take pics. this is very good. I started enjoying the piece more as I used it and you keep experimenting.

Camera- ing with Kodak C713
Nov 25, 2008 09:36 AM 3311 Views

An amazing experience. Before I laid my hand on the digicam, I went through all the features thoroughly. However, things went in my favor. The quality it offers is just the right. It's just right for the value. Even the video quality is good. You can work upon the video you capture.  The keys are just in right order which enable you easily handle the camera. Zooming option is easy-to-use. The best thing is that, the camera has got a decent look, neither big nor small, just the right fit.

Review and delete options are also user -friendly. I would recommend anyone to buy this product. There is one glitch. While I tried to transfer the images to my system, it took considerable time which was a bit annoying.

Go ahead and buy this product. It will be a nice experience. I am sure. Just lay your hands right away.

GUJARAT (Vadodara) India
One of the best cam
Nov 02, 2008 11:41 AM 3068 Views

It has several features ( for the sake of it’s competitors) but the main function of a standard good camera is also there. The picture quality is good and there are different options with auto/settings that help you in trouble free shoots, then why write this review. Well, there are few things you need to be aware of, and then, there is the Achilles’ Heal - that makes this Kodak Digital camera - a risky buy.

The camera uses power like a 7 year old uses chocolates. So always keep an extra set with you. If you are using too much of flash or the option of night shooting. Then keep some more batteries...and if you are going somewhere in the snow...don’t take this camera or carry a bucket full of charged batteries.

The other aspect is the digital zoom, why it is added to the camera, or for that matter, any camera, is a big wonder to me because I have yet to see a proper picture out of a digital zoom, they are mostly blurred and mismatched. The only effective zoom is your Optical Zoom and this camera does justice to that.

The Achilles Heal is the software in the camera. There is an Error and I have got this error myself and found notes about this error at different forums in the internet. The Error is called ’Error #B03’ and it will come on your display (pray it dosen’t). This is an error for which Kodak themselves have not provided any explanation and the only way out is to take the came to the service centre. Why it comes...there is no official explanation, but to my experience and from my study of others’ experience as mentioned in the internet forums - it is largely a software problem that occurs while downloading the photos from the camera. If it happens during the warranty period you are saved and there is no guarantee that it will not occur again. The plum in the pudding is, this error is not restricted only to CX7525 and I have reports on this error from other Kodak users also.

Once this Error happens, the camera simply freezes and you can not use or boot it. Since this is a high-end error it is better you go to a KODAK service centre, and by the number of them that you have around...you may guess how long it takes for your camera to come back.

Since the reason for occurrence of this error is not disclosed, the problem can come anytime to anybody and when it comes. Don’t blame me, I did my best

For below amateurs, hated the software
Oct 29, 2008 09:29 PM 1778 Views

Value for Money: I liked this camera when I first received it. The uploading software & pic program that comes with it is not great, at all!

Picture Quality: I have taken lots of pics that I was super happy with, but I am ready to move on... this camera is a step below amateur.  Maybe a couple of steps below... it is not what I want.

I like the viewfinder, along with the lcd screen.  Very clear & is what you see is what you get, for the most part.

It has some good settings on it, like "text", "close-up"... has video, also.  That is the only video I take, is with this camera now.

I prefer to use the default computer software with the unloading of these pics, as opposed to the software that Kodak provided.

Ease-of-use:  Great, did not take long to learn all the functions.

Shutter Speed:  Not good, not recommended, if you are looking for fantastic speeds.

Batter Life is good, if you use the recommended Kodak rechargeables.  If you replace with "AA", just regular ones, it last NO time!

I give this camera an overall AVERAGE rating.  Happy at first, but quickly outgrew the device.

Well this is about the digital cameras made by the Kodak sold by Croma (reputaed tata owned shop) .This summer vacation end of april we purchased a camera KODAK EASYSHARE m853 (the deadly camera) from croma CBD next day we went on our holiday in a remote place . we are very much interested to keep the travel memories of each trip in video or sill pictures.

We started using the camera the battery discharged after aprox 10 20 snaps The battery is inbuilt and we put the camera for chagrining by connecting the caharger provided by the Kodak and kept in a table little later My mobile started ringing and I went running, the camera was above My mobile headphones wire just I took the camera to keep away and got a heavy electric shock.

Even after a month my hand is not fully recovered from the freezing effect. I am lucky there was so many children at home none off them went on curiosity and touched the deadly camera, thanks to the god This spoiled the our holiday when we returned from the tour I took this the deadly camera to croma and explained the problem the manager refused to give replacement and kept the same for repairing the camera is defective manufacturing itself and I believe that the customer should get a replacement not repaired piece So advice the people who ever is reading this please don’t buy the rubbish the deadly products made by Kodak and marketed By Croma FOR THIDS CAMERA

Well this is about the digital cameras made by the Kodak sold by Croma(reputaed tata owned shop) .This summer vacation end of april we purchased a camera KODAK EASYSHARE m853(the deadly camera) from croma CBD next day we went on our holiday in a remote place . we are very much interested to keep the travel memories of each trip in video or sill pictures. We started using the camera the battery discharged after aprox 10 20 snaps

The battery is inbuilt and we put the camera for chagrining by connecting the caharger provided by the Kodak and kept in a table little later My mobile started ringing and I went running, the camera was above My mobile headphones wire just I took the camera to keep away and got a heavy electric shock. Even after a month my hand is not fully recovered from the freezing effect. I am lucky there was so many children at home none off them went on curiosity and touched the deadly camera, thanks to the god

This spoiled the our holiday when we returned from the tour I took this the deadly camera to croma and explained the problem the manager refused to give replacement and kept the same for repairing the camera is defective manufacturing itself and I believe that the customer should get a replacement not repaired piece

So advice the people who ever is reading this please don’t buy the rubbish the deadly products made by Kodak and marketed By Croma

Before buying this camera, I delved on various digital cameras and after a lot of research, I had short-listed this camera and Canon Power shot S3. Finally I reached the conclusion that the Kodak Z812 IS had the best bash for the buck and selected this one based on following: 1) This was costing approx$250 with rechargeable battery and charger(NON OEM) as compare to Canon S3 was costing approx$290 with Sony Batteries and charger. 2) It has 7.1 mega-pixels as compare to Canon S3 which has 6.2 mega-pixels. 3) It has 2.5 inch LCD as compare to 2 inch in Canon S3.

What I really Like: I am very much satisfied with this camera. This is one of the greatest ultra zoom cameras presently available at its price, the best choice if you judge quality to cost ratio. It takes pictures that are very remarkable with great color reproduction and with fine details. Even videos are so great that it can beat some of the low end video cameras except the sound quality. Optical zoom is tremendous. There are around 20 scene modes, selectable with the menu steering buttons.

Great optical zoom: A 36mm-432mm optical zoom means that nothing is out of range with this camera. Combined with the image stabilization characteristic you can get away with somewhat slower shutter speeds at long focal lengths and still get nice pictures. The lens is reasonably fast, meaning the aperture doesn’t close down too much when fully zoomed(its widest setting is f/2.8 to f/4.8 at 12x zoom), so there’s more available light even at highest zoom, so the shutter can be fast enough to freeze sports action, or ISO can remain low for low noise.

A multiplicity of modes: As an amateur photographer I like having the ability to set my own shutter and aperture values depending on what I’m doing. At the same time, the availability of a fully automatic mode makes it a camera that is easy to use by anyone. Plus, having sixteen preset modes for special settings(night time shooting, portraits, snow, beach, etc.) is handy if you’d rather not mess with the stop settings yourself. In addition to being able to control the exposure you can also control the flash setting.  Low light results are also very good. I was able to use "night landscape" mode efficiently to take otherwise difficult night cityscape photos. The camera chose a 10 second(!) exposure time at ISO 64, and the photos came out superbly.

Variable Color Settings: This is a relatively simple feature but on the advanced modes you can choose between "Low Color" "Natural Color" "High Color" "Black and White" and "Sepia". This lets you adjust the appearance of your photos as you take them rather than in a photo editing program later. I find that taking a photo in the mode produces better quality that editing it later in a photo editing program.

Photo Quality: The image quality was very good. The main difference between this and the classier DSLR are the sensor sizes and interchangeable lenses. The Z812 has a 1/2.5" sensor; DSLR’s start at about 15 times that area and up.  This makes a huge distinction in low-light and vibrant range of the pictures. But of course DSLR’s are a lot bulkier and expensive.(Check https://flickr.com/photos/25661984@N05/)

High ISO settings:High ISO settings allows this camera to take photos in low light conditions. While the quality of low light pictures isn’t exceptional, they’re not awful either. HD Video - by far my favorite feature is the ability to take 720p video at 30 frames per second. It takes a computer or high definition TV to really appreciate the superior quality of this video. The fact that the stereo sound is cool, but the quality is about average for a digital camera.

Other Features: The Z812 has a lot of sophisticated features especially like the live histogram. Performance was overall quick, except when the buffer filled(about 5 burst pictures), then it takes almost 10 seconds to write it all into the memory card. Multiple Photo Features - Besides the standard self-timer, there are two settings for taking multiple photos. One takes five consecutive photos in rapid succession. The other will take up to 30 consecutive photos in rapid succession and store the last five.

Batteries: Out of the box the camera comes with a disposable battery. The least Kodak could have done was include a rechargeable battery in the box. During my research I found many misleading reviews on battery issue. This camera works well with Lithium or Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries. It is good idea to have Li-Ion rechargeable with charger. To buy original or compatible batteries / chargers is up to you. According to me it is not an issue at all. I bought 2 Non OEM batteries and charger from Amazon at 19$ and they are working great. Another misleading was about the loose lens cap. If it was not kept loose, it would have easily damage the zoom mechanism if you forget to remove the cap before turning ON the camera.

In a nut shell. No matter who you are, apart from professional photographer, the camera is apposite for you. You may use it as just point and shoot camera. Or you may play with more technical stuff like f-stop or aperture or shutter speed or exposure compensation or so on. Obviously it is not DSLR and how much you can expect in a$210 deal(now a day’s price is 250$+8$ shipping charges), but. If you want some thing like DSLR at a price of point n shoot, this is the camera. So overall A great camera @ great Price

Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS is the newest camera that the folks from Rochester produced. Now, this model has a 2.5 inch LCD display with 230.000 active pixels(its pretty sharp) and an view finder that shows 100% image frame. A bad point here is that the camera EVF was not equipped with a diopter adjustment.

It has an 12X Optical MegaZoom, so the focal range of the camera is large, you may benefit from wide to tele shots without concerns. The sensor type is a 8.2 MP CCD that produces a 3264 × 2448 size picture. This more than enough for any amateur photographer. The ISO ranges form auto, 64, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, the last one can be reached only at 2.2MP.

For storage you get a 32 MB internal memory, SD/MMC card expansion slot.  The Z812 IS faces some pretty stiff competition from other companies, but it deserves a look-up.

High end camera, great photos value for money

I purchased a  Kodak Z7590 5.0 megapixel  10X Zoom camera in Yr'2005 for about Rs. 23, 000/-(not the current price) with a 1GB card at Hyderabad. .  The camera has been used by me in atleast 6 to seven holiday outings apart from Indoor use.  This is a good, mega zoom camera for those looking for ease of use while still having plenty of features to fiddle and experiment with.

The kit contains  USB cable, AV cable,  battery, wall charger, original instructions and software CD. The Kodak easyshare software is to load and has very good and user friendly editing options which can be used not just for pictures from this camera but on any photos already with you or taken thro your Cellphone etc which donot give such powerful software.

The equivalent Cannon and Olympus cameras with 5-7 MPixel resolution and 10x-12x Zoom was costing me about 50 to 100% higher.(Pl check the current prices of equivalents and features, even a small difference like giving AA batteries instead of Li-Ion batt would make diference to prices. Also see whether your camera is amenable to attachments such as wide angle lense, filters etc)

Here's the nitty gritty about the camera if you're interested.

Camera Overview  : Boasting a 5.0-megapixel CCD(2, 576 x 1, 932 pixels), a full range of exposure control, and a compact body style, theKodak EasyShare Z7590 updates the EasyShare line that's proven so popular among consumers. Similar in style to a traditional point-and-shoot 35mm film camera, the Z7590 measures 3.9 x 3.2 x 3.2 inches(100 x 81 x 80 millimeters), without the lens extended and weighs about 380 gmswith the battery and memory card loaded.

It is not exactly a portable camera and is not meant for a novoice but at the same time it is easy to pickup the features.

The 5.0-megapixel CCD captures high resolution, print quality images(up to 8x10 or 11x14 with good detail, even allowing for some cropping), as well as smaller image sizes better suited for distributing via email.

Built into the Z7590 is a 10x zoom lens(top notch Shneider- KRUEZNACH lens), equivalent to a 38mm-380mm zoom on a 35mm camera, . The camera's autofocus mechanism uses a multi-zone system to "find" the primary subject closest to the lens. The AF area is highlighted in the LCD display with a set of brackets. You can change the AF area to read only the center of the frame through the Record menu, or choose Selectable AF, which lets you set the AF area at center, or to the left or right of center. Additionally, you can choose between Continuous and Single AF modes.

The Z7590 has a maximum aperture ranging from f/2.8 to f/3.7, depending on the zoom position.

The cam offers 10x optical zoom, the Z7590 and as much as 3x Advanced digital zoom, which effectively increases the camera's zoom range to a total of 30x. Keep in mind though, that digital zoom decreases the overall image quality, since it just stretches the center pixels of the CCD image.

For composing images, the Z7590 offers both a real-image optical viewfinder(for high intensity daylight photography since you may not be able to see the LCD display clearly in daylight) as well as a generous, 2.2-inch color LCD monitor.

The Z7590 offers optional full manual exposure control, as well as a range of partial manual and automatic exposure modes.

The Mode dial on the rear panel offers options of Scene, Action, Portrait, Auto, Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual, Custom, and Movie exposure modes, as well as a Favorites setting for viewing images saved as "Favorites".

While Auto mode is best for general use, leaving all of the exposure decisions up to the camera for true "point and shoot" photography, the Program mode lets you control options such as white balance and exposure compensation while the camera handles the basic aperture and shutter speed settings. Aperture and Shutter Priority modes let you control either aperture or shutter speed, while the camera selects the appropriate corresponding variable.

As you'd expect, Manual mode provides complete user control over the exposure, with shutter speeds ranging from 1/1, 000 to 16 seconds. The camera is capable of up to 1/1, 500 second in auto modes, but only when the aperture is set between 5.6 and 8.0. Finally, the Custom mode lets you save a group of exposure settings that can be instantly recalled. For example, if you frequently shoot indoors under a specific lighting setup, you can save the exposure settings for that exposure situation.

The  (SCN) Scene exposure mode offers no less than 16 preset shooting modes, including Landscape, Close-up, Night Portrait, Night Landscape, Snow, Beach, Text, Fireworks, Flower, Manner/Museum(for indoor settings without flash or sounds), Self-Portrait(for pointing the camera back at you), Party, Children, and Backlight. The available scenes appear at the bottom of the LCD display upon entering the mode, and the Multi-Controller selects the scene.

The Z7590 employs a Multi-Pattern metering system, which bases the exposure on several light readings taken throughout the frame, taking into consideration both brightness and subject contrast to arrive at the optimum exposure.

A 10-second Self-Timer   so you can get into your own shots.

In addition to its still photography modes, the Z7590 also offers a Movie recording mode for capturing moving images with sound. Movies can be recorded at 320 x 240 pixels at 24 frames/second. However you cannot use zoom-in-out during any given shoot(afterall it cannot replace a handycam)

A Burst photography mode lets you capture as many as four frames in rapid succession

In addition to its normal camera-related functions, the Z7590 offers a unique "Favorites" feature that Kodak pioneered relatively recently. In practice, the Favorites function works in conjunction with Kodak's EasyShare software, installed on your computer.

The Z7590 is compatible with Kodak's EasyShare camera and printer docks, which offer hassle-free image downloading and printing.

The camera comes with a battery charger in case you don't have the accessory dock. Also packaged with the Z7590 are USB and AV cables, as well as a software CD loaded with the EasyShare software for downloading and managing images.

Camera can be directly connected to TV with AV cable to view large size photos with family and also full videos which is a good feature.

The camera doesnot have image stabilization and hence pictures in moving condition and close Zoom photos need a tripod or an extremely stable hand for satisafctory results.
