Canon PowerShot SX600
Apr 20, 2015 02:15 PM 2245 Views

I bought this camera from Amazon, The Canon PowerShot SX600 HS has automatic shooting features which is very useful that even my children can use the same with amazing picture quality, IT also has useful zoom range with optical image stabilization very good photo and video quality. It comes with a reasonable price and is light weight.

Indoor use of the zoom lens is limited due to slow in lens, video quality are OK and low-light photo you might expect a difference in image quality between there is noise even at its lowest ISO camera has a good balance between noise and noise reduction for shooting outdoors in daylight, the 1080p video at 30fps this camera is amazing You can shoot at full resolution at up to 10.5fps t's unlikely all of your photos will be in focus.

Nice Camera

The camera has 12x ultra sonic motor based zoom for multi speed zoom and complete silent zoom operation. It has a 5 megapixel CCD sensor and a really useful lcd screen that is foldable. The camera is very responsive and reacts instantaneous.

Exposure and parameters such as ISO, white balance and exposure compensation are set intuitively with the main mode dial and the function button. All in all a Good camera.

Canon is one of the camera dominant brands in the world. with its wide range of options in market it always stands at #1 in market. sx160 model was our home's only point and shoot camera. we have ordered it from flipkart at 9000 bucks.

it's a 16 megapixel camera with 16X optical zoom lens. pictures are very bright and crisp. at 9k price this camera is wonderful, but I wont recommend for night photography. when its amazing at day light it sucks at low light. the buttons on the camera are well placed and user friendly tooo. it has a 3 inch lcd display. good for normal photography.

It has inbilt  memory also even it has a slot for sd card also .its the best canon camera ever .it has a box to keep the camera too.

The camera is very light weight and easy to carry around.  The battery charger is very unique and I am not sure if we can get a spare one if it go bad.and even Its not available here

The settings are well inside the menu which need to be tediously dug up.There is very good Flash and wonderful Zoom, but a bit poor low light performance.

But the camera is a poor choice for in motion photos, or sports photos, since it does not have a shutter speed control or a sports mode ! So it is overall a good camera for portrait and scenery photography, but it is very tough to film a flying bird or running squirrel on this camera. We hope the firmware would be soon upgraded to add a sports mode !

USP - LONG zoom & Full HD recording
Sep 09, 2013 03:05 PM 1710 Views

I have recently purchased Canon PowerShot SX260 camera, it has seriously amazing features. Though I’m not a professional guy, but the quality-results that the camera delivers is not less than any professional shoot. I loved it because of its:

• 20x optical zoom that gives me power to capture distant objects with the finest details and clarity

• 3.0-inch LCD with wide angle viewing support gives comfortable shoots

• CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5 Processor produce incredible shoots even in low light conditions

• User-friendly interface has allowed me to make the optimal use of the offered features without any complexity.

• Full HD recording, ISO 100-3200 light sensitivity range, IRIS aperture control are some of my favorite features.

• USB & memory card-reader support is again a quick and hassle-free option for data transferring

• Rechargeable battery is good as it offers ceaseless long-hour shoots in one go.

Though, I personally wish that, the camera would be even more demanding, if it could have a bit higher megapixels resolution than 12.1 MP. Overall, I loved the camera!!!

PowerShot SX40 HS 12.1 MP
Aug 29, 2013 11:30 AM 1599 Views

I have a Canon Powershot SX40HS which I recieved as a gift from my brother about 2 years back. The canon powershot is a magnificient digital camera with 12 megapixels and 35 times zoom capability. This camera is suited for both a common user as well as an all time photographer.

I don't have to adjust light settings during the day or in the night. The pictures captured during the night are also amazing and very clear. The picture quality is truly great and the color quality is also good.I had a image of my family and had it printed almost the size of a wall and still the image didn't tear or the pixels didn't show up because of its 12 megapixel camera.

I recommend that u can go for this camera if you are looking for more refined experience while clicking images than a common user but definitely a little less than the professional cameras with long extended lens

Excellent one!
Apr 16, 2013 05:42 PM 1960 Views

Well to start with, it is one of the best point to shoot cameras out there in current market. Some quick pros and cons. The reasons for my buying are:

1.Optical Zoom 16x : (It is a awesome feature for this price)..clear image for longer distance object.

  1. AA batteries : I was looking for a cam which can take AA rechargeable batteries, because they are cheap and readily available anywhere in the world. Unlike in other cams they provide lithium-ion batteries they are like RS2500 to carry a spare and moreover just imagine u r in a big trip and batteries are down...lithium-ion has less recharge cycles though. lithium-ion has advantages like low weight and more charge carry.

3.CCD Image sensor : they provide accurate and great picture than CMOS sensor.

4.Look and Feel.

5.Good Image Stabilizer.

Cons

  1. no Inbuilt Panorama..big deal..there are many free panorama software, with which u can stitch images later.

  2. 0.8 FPS (I have no intention of taking more images in 1 sec).

  3. 720p recording (Not a bit con but people who consider 1080i recording for them a note, for me 6 min of 720p took almost 1gb and it was great on my 40 inch LCD). just Youtube it for test videos taken using canon sx160.

Last but not the least, a camera worth buying!

Canon PowerShot A2300 Point & Shoot

Good points:

1) 5x optical zoom.

2) Small and slim, light and sleek.

3) 16 Megapixel Sensor.

4) Very good macro in this range.

5) good quality picture, comparing to other models in this range.(dnt go for the quality reflected in the camera LCD, see in any laptop then you can feel the difference.

6) Good battery performance

Bad points:

1) No optical image stabilization.(in a bit low light and with 3-5X zoom the images comes blur. but dnt worry it happened only where the light is low. in day light or using flash this will not pinch you)

2) Digital IS is not full resolution.

3) No optical zoom while in movie mode.

4) No pause button in movie mode(its very common.)

5) No Panorama mode

6) Poor High ISO noise performance.

Highly recommended for the beginners.

If you are looking for a budget digital camera, Canon Powershot A 2200 is a good option. It is a 14Mega Pixel, 4X Optical zoom camera which uses lithium battery (Power backup is good) and has a powerful flash.

It provides fixed settings for various shooting mode as well as liberty to customize up to some extent; and gives quality output. Best thing is it is priced very reasonable. Of course Brand value of Canon is a bonus. If you are a beginner or purchasing your first camera it is best option.

Want DSLR feel? Canon SX130is is the BEST to buy!!
Dec 07, 2012 09:17 PM 3149 Views

I bought my Canon power-shot Sx130IS in Dec 2010. This was my first Camera Digital Camera and before this we had an Konica Pop Film Camera purchased by my Dad in 1985 from Singapore.

Well I would rate/name this camera as a Pre-DSLR(or) an Pro-digital camera. Or Also name it as a Mini-DSLR.

Its Advisable to buy this camera if you have -

1) Passion for Photography.

2) Love zoom photography

3) Have Ideas to buy DSLR later or Soon.

4) if u don't have enough money to buy a DSLR and want to have a compact DSLR like handling.

5) if you want a HD video Recording.

The main part I love in this camera are(Pros) -

1) Manual Pop up Flash, which allows u to use the flash only when needed. This also makes you and your camera stealth, so that you can take photo silently and go undetected.

2) AA battery powered. Though, you get lesser pictures when compared to an Li-ion powered camera, AA batteries are always, easily and cheaply available anywhere you go. AA Batteries are available always, even after 50 years from now. So I can use my Camera even after 50 yrs. But getting a Particular Li-ion battery is difficult even after 7 yrs.!

3) Low light photography without Flash. When you use SCN mode with low light function, you can take photographs in low light. This mode also allows you to take continuous shots of at-least 2 snaps per sec(Max) during Day Light. But the Quality of photo in this mode is bad.

The Part I hate which this camera are(Cons)-

1) Video size when shot in HD mode is too large. 10 minutes of HD video eats atleast 1GB of memory! yuck.

2) Zooming while in HD video mode is too slow and the zooming focus in this mode is also not stable.

3) No auto Pop up flash like we have with other usual cameras. Would be Strange.

4) The Sensor gets sleepy sometimes(don't know why) which makes your capture of moving objects to miss.

5) Zoomed photos are not that sharp when Cropped. This is an issue with most of P&S Cameras out there in market. The Evidence is Picture Size which goes no beyond 3 mb.!

Tips -

1) If you have decided to buy this product, also buy a tripod along with. That will improve your photos quality and stability.

2) if you are an HD Video lover, better buy and use an 32GB Memory card for this camera.

3) To be safe and live always with this equipment, buy and keep an extra pair of AA batteries.  I have three pairs of AA Batteries(6 in total).

Sanyo/Panasonic Eneloop Rechargeable Batteries are Recommended.

VERDICT -

Overall, a best digital camera to be bought at the price Range of 10K to 14K.

I bought this product from a Shop in Chennai in 2010. It was costly that time(Rs.14800).

Thought this product is Discontinued now, you might still find this product at some shops and its a surprise to see that now this Camera is Available for just under 9k.

It is advisable to buy the upgraded version of this camera - Canon Sx150Is or the latest Sx160is.

PS - I currently own an Canon EOS 60D.

I got the product online and on receiving the product, I checked the quality. It was unsatisfactory with the image quality like 5MP rather than being 16 MP and the image quality is also blurred. The things which ever is given is not fulfilled. Even I have a nikon cam with 12 MP. I feel it to be the best rather than canon 16 MP.

So never recommend it to anyone, specially while buying it online from some website from there special combo deals

The SX130 offers some logical upgrades to the SX120 like HD video, and despite weak battery life and a slower lens, it's a worthy competitor in the compact ultrazoom class.

Pros

Good image quality

Reasonable price

Nice 720p HD video

Cons

Short alkaline battery life

Slower lens for class

Lengthy flash recycle time

Canon SX30 IS Review
Oct 19, 2011 09:10 PM 6274 Views

*Hi,

*After 4 months and nearly 14, 000 pictures, I say that this camera takes crisp(DSLR quality) pictures at up to 10m and crispier videos at any distance.

Time between 2 shots is 2 seconds during which the shutter closes and therefore the LCD is blank. I'm using Transcend Class 10 Memory card. Video of any length is recorded onto the card in 2 seconds as compared to several seconds on a Class 6 MC.

This is THE best non DSLR P&S camera available at this price. I recommend this camera to amateurs only. The only camera(DSLR) better than this, is the Canon 1100D(2 lens kit & Digic 4 Proc) which costs 38, 000.

You should go for this camera because: its a Canon(watch National Geographic Obama's White House and you will see that the White House Chief photographer and his staff use Canons) and the 35X zoom.

You will find my video clips at https://youtube.com/user/dpkpande & Photos at https://flickr.com/photos/dpkpande/

Recipe for Photography.

I think the recipe for a great picture consists of the camera, the subject, the photographers talent, atmospheric conditions(time of day, ambient light, wind, heat, humidity and even the heat rising from the ground when taking zoom shots, etc) and good proportions of good luck and hard work.

After reading the review, download the SX30 manual(10mb, PDF, 190pgs, very detailed) from the Canon website and familiarize yourself with the functions of the camera.

Canon SX30 IS Review.

I have recently been gifted the Canon Powershot SX30 IS camera. This is my second Canon after the Canon A570(also reviewed on Mouthshut).

SX30 IS belongs to a special category of cameras called the Super Zooms. It is better than Point & Shoot(P&S) Digicams in every way but the picture quality(Not the Video), is slightly lower than top of the line DSLRs.

The Camera.*

Almost all owners, users and critics love it for its build quality(Made in Japan), phenomenal 35X Optical zoom, Manual controls, Image Stabilisation, Superior Video quality and stereo sound, at half the price of a decent DSLR, some have criticized it for its 14 Megapixel ability crammed on to a tiny CCD sensor, too much automation and the lack of RAW format imaging.

Canon has tried to put in the maximum number of goodies in one economical model with the SX30 IS.

It comes with a highly articulated beautiful LCD(although low in pixel count compared to its rivals). It has a CCD sensor(unlike the CMOS on DSLR's), Digic IV processor, 720p HD video capability & micro USB and Tv & HDMI Output.

Unlike lower range P&S cameras which work better even on Auto mode, you will be best advised to use P or other modes on this model. Although the Auto feature is totally controlled by the camera(even ISO settings), it is still very easy to use of beginners, as the camera adjusts and focuses itself onto the subject by using its own modes. It even goes to macro mode by itself in Auto, if you take it too near to your subject.

The body is all smooth tough plastic, except the front face which has a sandpaper finish for better grip. Your right thumb should always be at the dedicated thumb rest otherwise you risk to pressing the Zoom assist or the review button.

There is attachment for external flash above the viewfinder. The hot shoe cap, external viewfinder and cable attachment cover are made of rubberized plastic for comfort.

You get a dedicated video recording button near the LCD. You can take pictures even as the video is being recorded, but you will hear the click of the shutter, see the pic shot and then the video will continue.

The  SX30 can be switched on by both the power and review button. It is not  necessary to remove lens cap before powering up.

You can save power by reducing LCD brightness, adjusting flash power and default sounds and by using the Electronic viewfinder.

The 35X Zoom.

The 35X Optical zoom is the main selling point of this camera. It zooms from 24mm - 85 -100 -135 -200 -300 -500 - 840mm. You have the option of using digital zoom from 35X to 140X. I have found that, when hand held, zooming upto 70X is not a problem(pictures do get grainy), but beyond that a tripod would be advisable.

Once you have seen the results from the zoom, it will become addictive to see and shoot at distances. Its like having a telescope attached to a camera.

Zooming sound is barely noticeable during video recording, although the lens barrel is the most plasticky part of the entire body.

Some people have complained that many a times the SX30  does not focus on what they are trying to shoot. The problem is that they have zoomed into the subject more than what is necessary. Simply zoom out a bit and your subject will automatically be in focus.

Image Stabilization, IS.

IS works very well even when you or the subject is in motion. It makes a flashing warning when I hold the camera above my shoulder level, even that only in some tricky positions and angles.

The LCD.

The LCD(2.7 in across) is the least pixilated amongst Canon’s rivals. It has a deep bluish tinge and is set a couple of mm into its casing. When turned into the body, it is off and the Electronic Viewfinder(EW) is on. Looking through the EW feels like watching a cinema screen from a back row seat. It shows everything you will see on the LCD.

When pulled from the camera, the LCD switches on and can be articulated at various angels. Despite its lack of major pixels, it is wonderful to look at and use. You can reduce or increase the brightness depending upon the light around you. At full brightness, it has a clear display in direct sunlight.

Images.

SX30 has a 16:9 Widescreen mode but at 3744x2104 OR 7 Mega pixels only, it is a big let down and you won't want to use it. File sizes range from a measely 1.4 Mb to 3.5 Mb depending on various settings. It is better to stick with the Larger image capture and to be aware as you shoot, that you'll have to crop 25% of the image off the top and or bottom, to make it fit into a 16:9 aspect. Always try to take 2 shots, 1 in large(for detail) and 1 in Wide(for pc viewing) of your favorite subjects.

The Battery.

Full battery charge takes 2 hours. I have now, on various occasions, taken 300+ & several minutes of video without expending 1 out of 3 battery bars indicator.

The Sensor.

Canon SX30 IS has a CCD sensor, most noticeable by the vertical purple line at the source of light. Check the video on YouTube. The only advantage of the CMOS sensor is the absence of the purple streak and about 15% less power consumption.

Weight.

The camera weighs in excess of 600 gms and needs getting used to if you are shifting from a P&S camera. It needs 2 hands operation for stable shots with the left hand held below the body or below the barrel, the right thumb on its dedicated slot, the index finger on the shutter and the rest three fingers around the right grip. With practice one hand operation is also possible.

Popularity.

This model has been out there for a year now. Its popularity can be gauged by the number of amateur videos you find on YouTube and dedicated photo groups on Flickr. You can do wonders with this model, just check out what people have done on Flickr Canon SX30 IS Groups on Flickr.

Forget that SLR and Pick This Up
May 03, 2011 04:21 PM 22783 Views

There is a bug in all of us to be an aspiring photographer. So we invest in a big fat SLR camera, sling it around our neck for 1-2 months, clicking every moment of your life and get praised for the quality of the pictures. The issue is how long can you carry the big fat SLR?? Only if you had a compact with the features of an SLR.  This is where the Canon S90/ Canon S95 comes out trumps.

Size- Lets face it - it is not convenient to take an SLR everywhere – imagine taking your SLR to a club, sky diving, jet boat!! So I looked at camera’s which have manual adjustments - basically at the features of an SLR camera but in a compact size. The choice was between the Pana LX 5 and the Canon S90. I did however settle for the Canon even though the specs of the Pana were better – been a fan of Canon quality (previous camera's). Besides being small, it is light too – front and back metal with plastic sides. It does have a quality feel to it.

Sensor– The same sensor as the Canon G11 (10MP) which is a professional photographer’s choice - that’s got to be good. Please do not compare the MP size – 10 MP is good enough. One thing which stood out were the night photos – this is a general gripe for all compacts with poor quality night photos (cannot get the background) - now with this camera you can get the skyline of hongkong/singapore/chicago in the background (generally difficult to capture this with a normal compact)

Zoom & Wide Lens – Decent zoom 3.8x optical, 28-105mm. Anti Shake lens. Longer zoom would have been a killer deal.  28 mm lens – great for panaroma, huge family photos :-)

HDMI - yes yes, HDMI in your camera. Don't be too happy though - it is the mini hdmi cable which you would need to purchase.

Looks– This is one area Canon could have done better. It is plain and drab looking. Good that the images make up for this simple design. Some will however love the black colour – preferable over the silver and multicoloured camera’s out nowadays.

LCD– Simply one of the best screens I’ve seen on a camera. A 3” LCD which will make you photos look even more gorgeous. Great to show off your photos just clicked.

Features – It has gotpreset image modes (auto mode - 22 scene modes) – max 3200 iso, colour separation, colour swap, nostalgia, photo stitch and all these features directly in your camera. Full manual mode (ISO, EV, shutter speed, aperture, white balance, etc) so the amateur photographer in you can take over – including shooting inRAW. A really useful feature is that you have a control ring on the lens – this control ring can be allocated to various functions of your choice and it clicks to precision – zoom, preset modes etc. This feature makes you feel like using an SLR. Battery life – Good battery life.

Demerits – Besides the looks, the S90 does have some other flaws. Theflash is of the pop up variety – it pops up where you left finger holds the camera – you can get used to it but when you let someone else click your photo, the flash popping up disturbs the user. Video – it doesn’t shoot in 720i video (640 x 480 is still pretty darn good) however the S95 model has sorted this issue out. Viewfinder – It doesn’t have one, so if you are running low of battery, you do not have a choice.Hotshoe – No hotshoe like the pana, but the flash was good for my use. Wheel – the wheel for the setting is too light – it does shift while you are clicking photos. The shift should have been of the same quality as the control ring in the front of the camera. Camera Case & lanyard – it does not come with a case and the lanyard is one of the cheapest available for a high end compact camera – it has now shredded.

Conclusion– Pick it up if you need really small, compact camera with features of an SLR - good enough to put in your pant pocket. Consider it an investment and do go in for this camera rather than a basic model – your friends will soon be asking you to send you a copy of the photo you clicked!!! Happy Shooting.

Feb 2012 - The Canon S100 is the latest model over the S90. It covers quite a lot of the demerits of the S90 - 1080p movie recording, 24 mm wide angle lens, high speed movies (play back in slow mo - awesome feature to have), GPS, better zoom - Basically it improves on everything the S90 did. Plain freaking awesome. Look no further. You'd be very satisfied with the Canon S100

Canon PowerShot SX30IS
Apr 12, 2011 01:05 PM 4470 Views

The Canon PowerShot SX30 IS leaves other super-zooms trailing in its wake in terms of sheer focal length, with the 24mm wide-angle and 840mm telephoto settings providing more than enough versatility to meet most people's needs. Thankfully Canon's engineers have also implemented a very effective image-stabilisation system, which along with respectably bright maximum apertures helps to keep the majority of your shots sharp.

Being able to shoot 720p high-definition video complete with image stabilisation, stereo sound and the ability to make full use of that incredible 35x zoom is a real attraction and something that no other compact camera can currently match.

So while the 35x lens is a real headline-grabber that lives up to most of its promise, the SX30 as a whole still suffers from a few notable problems - less than stellar still images, lack of RAW shooting, a significant price increase on launch and few real upgrades over the previous model. Ultimately the SX30 proves the old adage that there's no such thing as the perfect camera, despite featuring the most versatile focal range ever seen on a compact
