Enuff was enuff!!!!!!!! I wanted a camera thats it ,i was thoroughly fed up with my older one.so my obvious choice was canon powershot sd400.this latest digital camera from cannon comes in a varitety of colours(though my fav is red!!!!),an impressive 7.1 megapisel CCCD and 2.4x optical zoom .The camera also boasts of a 1.8 -inch TFT screen and 17teen shooting modes including video ,in built photo effects and something called auto face detection that detects faces of up to nine subjects within a frame and tailor focus and exposure to optimise the results .if that wasnt enuff the camera comes complete with a camera dock (with wireless controller for easy charging ),direct printing ,pc connection and AV OUT . The canon powershot weighs only 105 gms and is powered by lithium ion battery!!!!!!!

well basically I am writing this review bEcz my friends challenged me that gals especially not so technosavvy gals like me cant write gud reviews about cameras, appliances etc etc !!!!!!!!!!! so here I am guys!please rate this review and let me know the cons in this review!!!!!!!!!

Its a Canon ......

My brother gifted me a Canon Powershot A 520 in Jan 2006. The model is sleek and attractive....

I handled an earlier model, which was some what bulky.

Here are a few observations:

  1. Most of the digicams in this category produce satisfactory results...ive tried kodak and sony...they are also as good..

  2. Canon makes good cameras..this camera in particular is easSy to use, and produces good result.

  3. The picture quality is the best when shooting in sunlight......It is better than quite a few brands

  4. the model seems to have the following problems: a. the red eye reduction is not very satisfactory sometimes (this feature is rarely needed)....b. the shutter has to be manually opened sometimes..it does not open after you've switched the camera on. c images at iso 400, shot in the dark, have high noise

  5. all in all...........this is a good piece, with very few problems and good value for money..the BATTERY LIFE IS VERY GOOD. THE MODEL NEEDS ONLY TWO CELLS, AS AGAINST 4 NEEDED BY SOME MODELS.

I have the camera since January 2005 & have used it extensively in the last one and a half years. So I know the good and bad of it.Very user friendly and image quality is brilliant.I faced problems while tryin to take pictures from a greater distance. The zoom isn't sufficient enough for long distance photography. There was also the problem of the clicking button , it needs to be pressed pretty hard and for about 2-3 seconds for the picture to be taken. The auto focus also takes a long time to set in and is even more whilst taking pictures with maximum zoom.Camera is a little bulky compared to other available models. The good thing is that you can use normal pencil batteries if your camera batteries die out. Also the rotating screen is very useful.. keeping the screen faced inwards when the camera isn't in use prevents it from scratches etc.

Best of both worlds

Hi People,

This is my first time reviewing a product on MS. Though i've benefited numerous time by reviews on MS, I never actually got around to writing one. Please overlook any mistakes.

When I decided to move up from a film roll camera to a digicam, I didn't want just a simple point & shoot camera, nor was I a pro to go in for Digital SLRs. the cameras that I zeroed down on were the S2IS, the Sony H1, and the olympus SP500UZ.

My other requirements were a high optical zoom [for nature photography], a super macro mode [for the intra oral photography that I need to do], and a good video recording [because I didn't want to invest in a camcorder separately].

The SP500UZ was the first one out, because it didn't have an image stabilizer, which I believe to be very important for macro shots.

The H1 and S2IS are similar on most counts but I preferred to go in for the S2IS partly because of my gut feeling, and I haven't regretted it one bit.

First the Cons:

The flash is a manual one- you have to physically flip the flash open. It doesn't pop up if it senses less light.

The lens cover is pathetic. It just sits on the lens and pops out the moment you switch the camera on. So in case of accidental switching ons, there is no protection to the lens. The H1 has a nice latch, so it doesn't fall out. Also it warns you if you switch it on without removing the cover.

I'm still learning the ropes, so maybe it's something I'm doing wrong, but I do get grainy pictures or noise in some situations. [Maybe it's at high ISO speeds like someone mentioned, I'll have to check it out]

The video duration is a bit short for my liking. If my 1 year old daughter is in a real mood for antics, I cannot shoot the whole circus, max I can take is just a few mins [3-4 I think on my 512Mb SDcard].

The LCD screen is a bit small, esp compared to the H1. I believe the S3IS has a bigger screen? But it's really not an issue as far as I'm concerned.

Not too many of these, and other than the lens cover the rest are not such a big deal.

Now for the Pros:

The LCD screen flips around, which is very helpful for protecting the LCD screen. It is also useful when taking shots at angles or even self portraits. Contrast is also never an issue, because you can swivel it to whatever angle you want. The only thing that scares me is that when the screen is out of the camera's body it looks a bit delicate and i'm afraid of breaking it. But then digicams are supposed to be treated gently, right?!

The User interface on the camera is really good. all buttons are right where your fingers are, yet you don't press any by mistake. The software/ menu [whatever you may call it] on the camera is very user friendly and it didn't take a long time to figure that out. Overall easy to use.

One welcome feature is the one touch movie recording. You don't have to flip the dial to go into movie mode, just press the dedicated movie button and you start recording faster than you can say "Lights, Camera .... Action". While on the movie thing, another super feature worth mentioning is that you can take still fotos in between video shooting. that however gives a black screen for a split second in the video clip which you have to edit. The movie mode is fantastic though, and even better when you experience the stereo sound that goes with it. it sound great even on the camera.

The versatility in terms of manual settings that can be done on this camera is more than the H1 [I had a friends H1 with me for a weekend when I compared and contrasted both cameras in detail].

It gives great intra-oral fotos. And by extension also great closeups of nature. There is the macro mode, and then there is the super macro mode, if you want to kiss the object with your lens while taking the shot. Have taken dozens of such fotos without any problems.

Battery life is good. I'm using 4 rechargeable 800mAh cells and they last pretty long.

I'm using a regular speed Sandisk 512 Mb SD card, not the high speed ones, and I've not really noticed a very long lag in writing or transferring data.

[One word on the S3IS, as far as I read it, I don't think that the improvements over the S2IS justify the cost difference. I bought mine for 18k and I think for the price the S2IS is a great buy]

Overall,

it's a great camera, and although i've still not used it to it's full potential, I'm thoroughly content with my purchase.

Prosumer Quality Camera with High Zoom
Aug 03, 2006 02:09 AM 5276 Views

I am a photography hobbyist and not professional and have use some SLR cameras in the past,

but most of my use went with point and shoot type of cameras. So many of my comparison also

goes from above point of view.

My requirement for the camera was a good quality high zoom digital camera with some decent

movie capability as I am not planning to purchase a Camcorder anytime soon. After lot of

investigation on the net I finally came across 5 models from Sony, Canon and Kodak camp.

These included Sony DSC H1, H3, H5, Canon S2, S3, Kodak Z612 - all with 12X zoom.

My requirement for image resolution was not any hard and fix, but anything above 3MP should

be good. As for printing on 5x4 size 3MP is more than sufficient. 5MP is good for 10x8

prints and take around 1.25MB on the memory card. More than that is good but not a

requirement for me.

Zoom was a requirement for me as the normal 3X zoom of the regular cameras gave not that

good images from a bit distance. Only compromise over here was the size of the camera. For

12X zoom no camera can fit in a pocket and that was a overhead I was ready to take (for the

returns which outperform any lesser zoom).

Another factor that I looked was Batteries. I have seen people with cameras having non

standard battery getting out of battery power while outdoors. They just cannot do anything

in such situation as it needs recharging. So using standard AA battery was another

requirement that I had in my mind.

Good Video mode was another requirement and 640x320 @ 30fps is quiet a standard now days.

In these requirement all camera other than the Kodak Z612 fitted. I dropped Kodak also

because of not that good picture quality. Then I dropped Sony H5 because of higher price.

So I was left with Sony H1, H3 and Canon S2 & S3.

Between Sony and Canon I found Canon to have better features. Apart from that Canon used

SD Card where as Sony used proprietary Memory Stick. And between S2 and S3, I found S2 is

almost same as S3 with only few feature upgrades that is of not much use to me. (see the link below where I have covered the difference in more details).

So finally I purchased Canon S2 from JJ Mehta and Sons, Mumbai ( http://www.jjmehta.com) for Rs.

18,500/-

After purchasing I found it much better than I had though about it and I fully recommend

it.

Some of the Features that the camera has:

1. Very Good Picture Quality

Quality of picture is good, though there is some color fringing at high zoom,

otherwise everything works great.

2. 5 Mega Pixels Sensor

Giving 2592x1544 pixels at around 1MB.

Good for 8x10 size printed photo.

3. 12x Zoom with Optical Image Stabilization

Very good distant photography

Good for taking photos when you are on holiday

High zoom requires image stabilization otherwise a small shake of hand is also

magnified 12 times.

4. Use of Standard Battery

Uses 4 AA battery that is easily available at any remote location also.

5. Made in Japan

6. Video Functions are Good

Pro:

320x640 pixes resolution at 30 frames per second

You can use Zoom during recording movies

Image stabilization also works for movie

Cons:

1 GB limit that makes it record around 8 minute of movie. So on a 2GB card you can

record 16 minutes of movie, but it will be in two parts.

7. Swirl LCD

You can move the viewer LCD is any direction. Works great for Macro photography.

8. Macro Mode

You can have your subject 0 cm from your lens! Great for flower, and small insect

photography.

9. Pre-Programmed Auto modes and Full Manual control

Amateurs just point and Shoot, nothing else needed to be known

Pro can take advantage of all the parameters that can be set.

For the one in between (like me), there are also semi-programmed modes where some parameters are auto selected by the camera, and others can be set.

10. Directly View on TV

Use the supplied cable to connect the camera with the TV and view the shot images and movies on it.

11. No Live Histogram

Not very great loss, though there is workaround that can fulfill the gap to some extent.

12. Higher ISO levels are not good

Lot of noise at higher ISO level

13. Size of the Camera

Will not fit in your pocket.

14. What more is needed

Comes with 16MB SD Card, and You need to purchase a bigger one. Also you need to

purchase rechargeable batteries and charger separately. Bag is also not part of the deal and

is needed to be purchased separately.

These were the prominent features. Other subtle features that are quiet convenient I have

started to collect at the camera link given below.

The best ultra compact digicam
Aug 01, 2006 05:13 PM 3246 Views

Upon purchase of my S2IS, my Fujifilm 2 MP A-205 had gone to my wife; a University teacher and she wanted a new digicam. Her requirement was for an ultra compact cam which she could carry anywhere in her purse on her frequent lectures outside our hometown. Of course it had to be the best! And then started the search for such a paragon! On our last visit to Mumbai in May, we almost settled on Canon SD 550, which was available for about 17k but then going online we found that Canon had introduced a newer version in SD series SD700 with better features, but it was not available in Mumbai market at that time- so again on to the net and finally SD700 was purchased in US market for US $ 465 shipped with a 1 GB SD card ( 21k Rs.). Cam reached Shimla last month carried by my cousin, and immediately was commandeered by me (ostensibly for testing!). I have been using a Canon S2IS for almost four months and that is an excellent cam, but the SD700 is not just another ultra-compact camera it features a 4X optical zoom compared to usual 3X in compact cams- and a very good image stablisation system.to top it all SD700 must be one of the best looking digicams. Soon more and more I was leaving the big & chunky S2IS at home, and putting the petite SD700 into my shirt pocket and taking pictures just as good as my huge previous cam. Features wise, SD700 is fully loaded and briefly it has § 6.0 million effective pixels § 4x (35-140mm equiv.) zoom § ISO 800 and optical IS for flash-free indoor shooting § Canon's DIGIC II image processor, iSAPS and 9-point AiAF § Wide viewing angle 2.5" LCD screen § 16 shooting modes § My Colors photo effects § Widescreen (16:9) stills recording § 30fps VGA movies Like the SD500 / SD550 before it, the SD700's looks and feel exudes quality, and the silky stainless steel finish is just gorgeous, and - as befits a camera at the higher end of the ultra- compact price range - it is beautifully built with an admirable attention to detail This cam does not have much by the way of manual controls, but the auto shooting modes are enough for any shooting situation. The camera takes pictures of exceptional sharpness throughout its entire zoom range- a feature of all canon cams. Of course a very desirable feature is that the cam is ready to shoot almost instantaneously and of course it has an excellent optical viewfinder-, which we did not find in lots of ultra compacts. Like my S2IS, SD700 also has an excellent movie mode, and VGA movie with sound at 30 FPS is really almost as good as a camcorder, though a high speed 1 GB SD card only lasts about 8 mins in movie mode, but the movies are really watch able. Optical zoom does not work in movie mode but the digital zoom is usable (something better than nothing!) My likes about this cam are just too many to enumerate, some are. 1. Compact stylish metal body 2. 4X optical zoom razor sharp lens with edge-to-edge sharpness. 3. Optical Image stablisation which works 4. Ability to share SD cards with my S2IS 5. Fast and accurate focus 6. Good battery life for a compact cam- almost 200 pictures on a single charge Dislike just for sake 1. Expensive 2. Red eye (which of course has to be software corrected).3. No optical zoom in movie mode Overall SD700IS is everything a compact digital camera should be. Entirely without doubt it is the best in class.

Powershot - better than other makes by miles....
Jul 17, 2006 10:38 PM 1989 Views

I picked up a Canon Powershot from a Canon authorised retailer in Pune last November. The piece was made in Japan and not in Malaysia or China. This had a psychological impact :-) as Made in Japan still counts.

Ever since it has been sheer bliss. I used to spend around 4k per annum on films, prints, CDs etc and I expect to get my ROI within a couple of years.

I’m yet to try out all the features but believe me, I’ve got excellent results. The various still photo modes are great. The clips are excellent and the sound recording is fab.

I got a Canon charger and four Canon batteries along-with the A-520.The battery life is unbelievable.

Nothing to complain except that I wish the flash would go off instantly instead of checking the object and then flashing. I miss out on some candid shots because of this. Not a major issue though.

I’d recommend the Powershot range to anybody who is in the market for a digital camera.

For a professional review visit https://steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/a520.html . This helped me decide on the A520.

Good budget camera
Jul 06, 2006 01:13 PM 2760 Views

what I have is the canon powershot A 410,which is an upgrade to the A400.I bought this for 8k,and 1.2k for a 256 mb memory card as the camera has only a 16mb card bundled along with it.Picture quality is decent for a camera of this budget. This one uses two AA batteries, and I consider this as a good as built in- rechargeable batteries as on sony cams tend to drain out always at the wrong time when u r outdoors(I ve gone thru such situations many time with my friends sony cam). The pixel rating is 3.2MP,3.2x optical zoom, has 1.5" LCD display.User manual is presented in a neat and uncluttered manner and the controls are easy to use.The battery life is also good, and connecting the cam with ur PC is a breeze.Canon cams have a two year warranty and the customer support is dependable(according to some of my friends) which are the reasons ive gone for this one.

The gripes I have with this cam are small LCD,movie clips do not record sound, flash is not very bright..........but no one cares as these are features one cannot expect from a camera at the budget end of the market.

Cambridge USA
From Shiva Venkatraman
Jul 04, 2006 02:25 PM 1687 Views

Hi,

I am a user of this camera for 6 months. I am pretty happy with it. This is a great camera for quick shots. You can take good short videos from this camera. It is very portable and has a long battery life.

It gets scratched pretty quickly. Thats the only drawback. The other drawback is that the power on button is small. The zoom is pretty limited as well.

All in all, this is a very small portable camera with very high quality pictures and video quality.

The best way to improve your ROI on this camera is to buy it using bizrate.com. Try to get the best rebate package available and perhaps if possible, a free memory card. It comes with a 16 MB SD card, which is totally inadequate. You need at least a 1 GB card. Sometimes bestbuy, circuit city and other retailers will do a special.

From a competition perspective, there are better cameras, which have a bigger screen and a better picture resolution. But then you have to ask yourself - do you want to pay more?

Good buy for the money
Jun 29, 2006 03:21 PM 2584 Views

Got one 2 months ago; very similar to the A620 except the swivel screen but has great optical zoom of 6X which is typically found in bigger cams. Picture quality is great, but red eye in many pictures on close up is an eye sore but can be fixed in the provided image editing software. Powerful flash, but in complete darkness is barely okay.

The delay between pictures can be annoying, but can be reduced to a second or so by turning off the preview (after a photo click). Also, get a 60x speed or above SD card of atleast 500MB(I got a 1GB card) which this camera can take advantage of. Supports fully manual control of exposure, not found in most other cams in this class.

With USB 2 support, quickly transfers pics to PC, software included is adequate(you may need a better one if you are picky). Overall a good starter camera if you don't mind the size with many good auto features.

Really A Power Shot & Professional
Jun 23, 2006 12:51 PM 4470 Views

Now you can take photos that look like they were shot by a professional with impressive camera features like a super-long zoom, sophisticated movie capabilities and a wide array of shooting options.

5.0-megapixel CCD captures high-resolution images up to 2592 x 1944 pixels

The Optical Image Stablizer is excellent.

Aspherical lens gives excellent sharpness and color

The TFT-LCD monitor with Vari-Angle adjustment and night display function is superb

The isaps intelligent scene analysis based on photographic space technology provides greater picture quality and faster processing.

Continous shooting mode is superb.

I purchased Canon Powershot s2Is because I could feel the difference in image quality and sharpness when compared to other brands available in the market. I have used other cameras but this is the best.

The only improvement I see is the lens cover which should be auto.

The shooting modes are excellent and they really work.

The special photo effects are superb.

The model is sleek, compact and beautiful.

Don't look for anything else.

Some professional photgraphers saw the pictures that I had taken and they could not believe that I had taken those pictures myself - that is the real power.

Better picture quality than cameras in same price
Jun 19, 2006 01:06 AM 3107 Views

Cannon I am told is the original lens maker and a lot of companies procure lens from canon.

Great finishing of the entire camera.

Instructional manual is presented very well and all the functions and their features and how to use them can be grasped in the first time itself.

So why not buy camera from the company who is the ORIGINAL LENS MAKER of the camera. Plus their picture quality is really fantastic, especially day time pictures are always fantastic.

However PICTURES TAKEN IN THE NIGHT come JUST ABOUT OK. It takes time to know the right mode in which to click pictures in the night. Still pictures taken in the night come just about ok especially of a far away well lit building or monument.

This is one great drawback or maybe I haven't been able to locate the right mode as yet in which to click those pictures. So research on that.

The MOVIE MODE is also good but picture quality again is OK, especially of movies clicked at night as they come dark since they are recorded without the assistance of a flash and only the lighting that is lit is captured.

DO NOT GET TEMPTED TO BUY the camera BECAUSE OF MOVIE MODE.

Also now a lot of cameras in the same pice range as A400 come but they are much THINNER. Thats a BIG ADVANTAGE especially when you want to TAKE CAMERA TO WEDDING FUNCTIONS etc. Canon A400 has good thickness and also has a decent weight.

The ONLY PLUS POINT I see is that the DAY TIME PICTURES clicked on A 400 are the BEST COMPARED TO THE OTHER 3.2 pixel cameras that I have seen.

Also now the cost of these cameras have now come down but definately whatever you buy always try to get the slimmest camera as that is easiest to carry around.

I bought this camera only because it was among the cheapest and the best camera when I bought it six months back.

Now prices have fallen by a good number and a lot of models that were expensive earlier come in under Rs 10,000 price bracket, so do more research guys on this.

I got the camera from Capital Studio, B - 5 Connaught Place a great shop for buying cameras of other brands also.

My Canon PowerShot520 hardware problems
Jun 14, 2006 09:20 AM 2337 Views

I have been using Canon poershot for past 6 months now,

I purchased it for 15k .there are some basic flaws in it.

There is a constant shutter jamming problem. When you switch

it on in camera mode the shutter doesn't open up copmpletely.

you 'll have to touch the shutter to get it working.

Also at times it shows memory card, when viewing a particular

image in playback mode. I told my dealer about these problems \

and he gave a very luke response to it.

After purchase service is also a important factor when you are about

make such a buying.

As per the image quality is concerned it's good for a 4x and 4 mp camera,

but I also have a concern on the red eye elimination factor for thge gadget.

The red eye phenomemon persists, even in good lighting conditions

during night.

These are the features that I noticed over a period of time. The hardware

problem may be specific to my device, but the red eye i'm sure would be

common to all.

I'm looking forward to IXUS series from Canon, hoping things improve there.

Canon S2 IS Perhaps the Best Allround Digicam
Jun 06, 2006 08:49 PM 8553 Views

I urgently needed to replace my Fujifilm A-205 Digicam plus My old Sony TRV238 Camcorder and wanted to lug only one digicam, requirement was a long zoom atleast 10X plus an excellent movie mode with sound. Last year I settled on Canon S2 IS, but it was quite expensive, but this year with intro of S3 IS the prices of S2 IS tumbled in US. I purchased one Online forUS $ 290 shipped eq. of 13.5 k, plus invested into 4 x 1 GB Hi Speed SD Cards a total of US $ 100 plus 12-NiMH AA Batt plus fast charger for US $-25- all items equivalent of Rs. 19000-00, have provided me with a Digital camera which has every thing possible under the sun.

This camera is really fully featured and outstanding are.

Supersharp Canon 12X Zoom

. Image Stablisation which really works even in Movie Mode

Stereo sound recording New "Night Display" feature brightens the LCD and EVF in low light More movie mode options: wind filter, selectable sound quality and mic level My Colors feature lets you highlight and even swap colors right on the camera Uses Secure Digital (SD) memory cards (instead of CompactFlash) USB 2.0 High Speed support

Battery life in S2IS is outstanding one can takeabout 400 pictures on 1 set of 4 AA NiMH battries.

Image Browser Software from Canon is truly outstanding

Something unique about the S2 (as well as the S1 before it) is the Ultrasonic Motor used for the zoom drive. This allows for variable speed zooming and very quiet operation.

Then we come to the Icing on this gorgeous cake- the MOVIE MODE-

Canon took one of the best movie modes on the planet (from the S1) and made it even better on the S2. You've still got that great 640 x 480 / 30 frames/second capability, but now there's stereo sound recording (and higher quality at that), a wind screen, and the ability to take still shots while filming! Now on any trip I can carry just one camera and take care of all my Movie & still needs. S2IS is truly the Best Cam out there and of course the best value.

Digital Photographer-Cannon Powershot A400

Cannon Powershot A400 a very handy and reasonable digital camera.

I took it for Rs 8500/- one year back with that I got 2days 3nights stay.

Nice Hnady camera with good natural color photography.

Rough & Tough camera.

3.2 megapixels is enough for a family function photography as well as picnic photographs.

Good print quality of photographs printed.

3x zoom gives good zoom quality.

Slight heavy but acording to other features its not much concern.

Best to buy a camera if you are looking a lower range and good quality digital camera.

I compared Nikon 5megapixel quality image with canon 3.2 megapixel image shoot with this camera its better than Nikon.

The colors come out very good.

Modi Nagar (Ghaziabad) India
Good Product in Low Price
May 11, 2006 08:00 AM 3489 Views

No doubts, Canon is the best brands in digital cameras. I have used Sony and Nikon and this time I purchased Canon and it is really amazing. I am using it for about 5 months and I have good experience with it.

What is Good?

  1. Quality Pictures

  2. No distortion at corners of the image

  3. Uses SD Card

  4. Flap Display (Protects your LCD and allows you to take pictures from almost all angles)

  5. 4X Optical Zoom (Generally you will get just 3X in this range)

  6. My Colors Function (Allows you to replace the color in real time OR choose a color by moving lens to that color and you will get only that color in the image rest of the ares will be in grey scale)

  7. Optical View Finder

  8. Normal AA Size Batteries (You can find Pencil Cells anywhere, if your batteries discharge)

  9. Extendability to use Tripod and external lens

  10. You can zoom even with Video Recording and Video Files are VCD compliant.

  11. USB 2.0 (Fast Access)

What is Bad?

  1. Bulky Size

  2. No appealing look (IXUS 55 looks amazing...)

  3. It becomes heavy with batteries (It uses 4 AA Size batteries)

  4. It does not come with batteries and charger. You will have to purchase seperately.

  5. Memory Card is just 16 MB and that will be of no use because you will definitely purchase the memory card of better capacity.

  6. Indoor pictures are sometimes dark. In SONY cameras, when we click, Flash comes in 3 parts (with slight time delay) and we get good quality. In Canon, flash occurs only once. You may get dark pics some times.

  7. Just USB Connectivity, No Bluetooth or WiFi

  8. There is plastic/rubber cover that covers USB and A/V connector. It looks too filmsy and does not give good feel.

  9. You can download the photo from memory card but you can not send the photo from computer to memory card again. Once deleted then deleted.

What I liked:

  • Very good photo quality (though see issues below)

  • 12X zoom lens with optical image stabilization

  • Blazing performance (except for focusing speeds, which are just average)

  • Full manual controls

  • Awesome movie mode: VGA resolution (30 fps), stereo sound, zoom ability, wind screen, selectable audio quality/level

  • Great continuous shooting mode

  • Flip-out, rotating 1.8'' LCD display; LCD (and EVF too) is visible in low light

  • AF-assist l good low light focusing

  • 0 cm macro mode for ultra close-ups

  • Handy shortcut button and custom spot on mode dial

  • Time lapse photography feature

  • Unique My Colors feature (though it's only available in one automatic shooting mode)

  • Excellent battery life

  • USB 2.0 High Speed support

  • Optional conversion lenses and external slave flash

  • Impressive software bundle; camera can be controlled from your Mac or PC

What I didn't care for:

  • Images a little too sharp; a few were a tad overexposed

  • Movie mode file size limit arrives quickly

  • Some redeye

  • No live histogram in record mode (still!)

  • Plastic tripod mount (hey I'm only complaining because it used to be metal)

  • RAW support, manual focus ring would've been nice

  • Tiny memory card, crappy lens cap, and throwaway batteries included with camera

WHEN THE CANON FAILED!!
Apr 27, 2006 04:22 PM 2152 Views

I purchased a Canon PowerShot A-75 digital camera in October 2005. It was a pleasure taking pics and short-duration videos with this camera for the first four months. However, in March 2006, on an occasion when I needed it most the camera let me down.

We went on a family vacation to Ooty. When I readied the camera to take some shots of the mountains, I found that there was no display on the screen. All other parameters were ok - battery was charged, power functions (zoom) were ok etc. I took it to the nearest photo shop and a so-called camera expert told me that the display function was unserviceable and nothing could be done with it. That was the end of photography during this holiday. Needless to say, this dampened our spirits.

On return to Coimbatore, I went to the Canon dealer who said that it had to be sent to Chennai for a check-up. Two weeks later came the news fro m Chennai that the display card (so said the dealer) had to be replaced and since Chennai did not have the same, the camera was being sent to Delhi for repairs. When I last heard - yesterday, the camera has been made 'functional' again and has been dispatched from Delhi. I am still waiting for the bill - even though the camera is on warranty.

Cheers!!!

Real Power in shot.

I am using power shot from 8 months.<b/>

I never faced any problem with this dude.

This camera has a unique feature of rotatable screen. This helps in taking pics from some rare angles.I find this really helpful when taking a snap in a crowd.

I have tested its ability in many difficult conditions. It outperformed in low light conditions too.Red eye is fairly reduced with this camera.

It has very good zoom button. We need not search for Wand T buttons for zooming in and zooming out.Cannon supplies drivers in a CD.We get a bundled value adding software Zoom Viewer with this camera.

Picbridge option is avilable with this camera which is used for taking direct prints from camera using a printer without using computer.

And coming to digital zoom I suggest you to turn off this feature in any camera you use.We lose lot of detail in the picture if we use digital zoom.I recommend using a zoom option in any picture editor.

Canon has released its new power shot series and stopped production of Powershot 95.

This uses 4 AA cells which makes camera heavy. No pouch is supplied with this camera.3 CDs + A USB connector+4 use and throw batteries are supplied along with this camera.

Go for high capacity memory card. This is a must when u r using a camera with 5 mp picture resolution. With such higher resolutions picture taked gains size around 1.5 MB.So Irecommend a memory card more than 512 MB capacity.
