While you're on the hunt to find the perfect camera to capture the best moments from your life and if you're an inexpert in the range of cameras like me; it's definitely not an easy task to find the'right' camera for yourself. But then again, what is the right camera?
Let me just explain in a layman's language with my limited knowledge. If you're looking for rookie photography or in other words, a beginner's idea of operation a camera, go for the budget range ones i.e. <10000. But, if you're someone who wants to take up photography as a passion or profession, the DSLR's are the answer to your query but you should know that these DSLR's are not cheap and buying lenses alone costs more than the budget cameras and the DSLR's may range from 30, 000 to even in lac's.
So then, while I was on the lookout for a camera for my basic camera requirements i.e. taking photos during family functions and therefore a simple camera, with all the basics included and easy to operate were my top priorities while searching for a camera.
I went into nearby camera outlets and asked which company is the best and I was told it should either be Canon or Nikon.
I personally have always been fond of the Canon brand, maybe due to the fact that my father bought a Canon in the 1990's and it worked fine for the next 20 years. Therefore, I summed up that I should go for the canon brand and searched through online sites and finally went for the "Canon Ixus 155" point and shoot camera, which costed me around 6800(including SD card+ camera pouch).
Coming to the review of the product.
Service: the service part is actually a credit to Flipkart, as I ordered the camera from there and in fact, in the nearby outlets to my house, the same camera costed around 9, 000 and so this was pretty much a very fair and cheap discounted deal. Moreover, the free camera pouch and 8 GB SD card+ camera battery was an added benefit for a rookie camera user like me.
Easy usage: the usage of the camera and the initial process(first time operating) was extremely easy for me. I was able to insert the battery with ease, also inserted the SD card as per the vivid instructions given in the manual provided by Canon and I was set to take the photos.
Quality: the quality of Canon IXUS 155 is pretty decent. It's 20 MP with 10 px Zoom but don't expect too much, don't be unrealistic. At 7, 000 you can't hope to get the same experience as that of a DSLR. The camera fits into the usage of taking photos during family functions with good lightning and is ONLY suitable for such photography, strictly a NO for those who are looking for cameras to take high quality, extremely detailed photos.
==Durability: == I've been using the camera since the last 1 year and touch-wood; there has been no grave issue to be reported here. But I must mention, I'm not a frequent at taking photos and I've taken 20 photos on a trot with this camera only once or thrice in the last one year and hence I'll get a better idea about's it's durability in the coming months. Having said that, so far so good.
Videos: Nothing much to say here. Decent HD video quality and good enough to take videos in good lightning, there are a few features available(editing) to enhance quality of the video and the videos come out in moderate sizes(not too large).
==Should you buy it? ==
Well, it depends. Answer these 2 questions 1) Are you a rookie at photography and looking to learn basics of operation a camera? 2) Is your budget limited and you cannot afford to go for more than 10, 000?
If the answers to the above questions is a YES then look no forward, Canon IXUS 155 is the camera that you're looking for.
In comparison to Sony, Canon is around 1500 much cheaper and currently Flipkart shows Ixus 155 out of stock but priced at 5, 000 - so in fact the price of the camera has gone down a few thousand since I last checked(2500-3000) to be precise but that does not mean that the camera does not has it's share of the market demand or else it would still be in stock.
A 20 MP with 10X zoom and easy to operate, costing just around 5000-6000 is a steal deal and the answer to the queries of photography beginners like me.
PS: the battery is chargeable and takes around 1.5-2 hrs to charge which is quite fine considering that once full charged, you can easily take photos for around 45 minutes and the battery sustains for more than 15-20 days without charging if camera is not being operated.
