TVS Spectra

1998 . I was quite sometime in my first job.

I was not fan of bikes, just wanted a vehicle thats super silent yet very powerful and lots of utility space.

And there came this TVS Spectra.

Stylish at that time, . very silent . 150cc very powerful, flat footrest . gave that delicate executive look. and promised a good mileage.

After a lot of disagreement from my relatives and friends, I however went for that bike / scooter. . even now my friends quote their judgement .

I still remember the shiny vehicle I saw . Red . yes the highest model Red DX . metalic red . Even today, after a distance, I still feel how much pinch of the financial strain it was, . but the joy of my first vehicle . cleaning everyday . filling petrol, even went for the additive sachet we used to get from petrol pump . only filled for sometime before someone told me not to.

The initial four services were good. . even TVS updating the engine oil amount etc .but then the problems . first the plastics came loose, , parts were scarce . even small things like screws for panels had my friends working across states to get those for me. . slowly the performance declined . mileage, pickup oil leaks etc .

Showroom people started ridiculing everytime they see me ambling with my scooter. All my closed ones would rebuke for not paying heed to their advice . . and then it doomed suddenly . TVS stopped this bile . . I went and asked the showroom people if I can pay little more and get exchange for my scooter . maybe even a scooty . wrote a letter to TVS asking them asking them to send some spare parts .

To cut it short . after so much tussle, I gave off this scooter for mere Rs 3000. Ever since, me or any of our friends would think TEN TIMES of a TVS vehicle ever since . I havent visited their showroom . for anything .

After all . this is how things work here . unless people get benifitted u r totally f_u_K_e_d up.

E.g. It had a metal undercover with the foot brake on it . everytime stones would get under the foot brake . as a result, the foot brake could never be pressed.

Later had to manually remove the stones from underneath the brake pedal.

The Frame at the back that was to hold the sparewheel was very weak, after sometime, the show room people admitted that it was not designed to hold so much weight and had asked me to remove it.

Oil leaks, battery leaks everywhere . No fuel meter.

1. Performance deteoriated after a year .

But amazingly everyone says, all bikes are like this now a days . and everyones getting pretty well used to this.

I still cherish my first bike that took me to places, taught me the rules of the road . and was always besides me whenever in need . only the makers of this amazing machine wanted more for themselves.

Now when I see their ad for their new bikes . WEGA etc . I just smile to myself .

I had buy the TVS spectra in the year 1999.

It is very good two wheelere, good average, and milage but bad thing is that it is not in market now a days. TVS company have no spares available and no service centres available. Authorised service centres also says that no parts availble hence it is advisable to change the spectra at the earliest. there are no resale value. within a 7 years I have to throw away the vehicle for non use. as on date a Bajaj scooter is having resale value and all spares are available easily throughout india.

Why such happened in case of TVS Spectra , god knows...

My spectra is having a problem that engine oil is not remained and service centres are saying that because of engine oil lekage problem, you have to change the piston cylinder assembly. Though I am ready to change the parts which is more costly compares to any two wheeler, it is not available. Hence I have to bear with the problem.

I am an unfortunate owner of TVS Spectra. Which was launched sometimes back witha a bang. Unfortunately for me I was trapped in your propoganda. I went in to this deal thinking that a respected Company like TVS is trustworthy. Going by the Quality awards these guys have won, I thought that I will be dealing with a honest and clean company.

I do admit that till I was in Chennai (Anna Nagar) the servicing was done upto my satisfaction. But things are different in Bangalore. Till I was in Chennai, the service was so good that, I always believed that, though this scooter failed in the Market but the product is a good one.

But Horror awaited me in Bangalore. Here when we take this scooter to the Authorized Service centre, they litrally tell me to junk this scooter as they are not in a position to service this one. They are not getting due support from TVS viz-a-vie the spares etc.

In Bangalore, I get the scooter serviced at TVS-Ashwa service station ring road - opp Devegaowda Petrol bunk. Till date I am not satisfied with their service. Every time I have to take to scooter back, It runs like some old 20 year old Lamburetta. Even now, I had complained that the gear is slipping and the pick up is bad. To my horror - they took more than a month's time, saying that TVS (mother company) is not supporting them for TVS Spectra models. Even after a month the problem persists. They also insist that they are doing me a favour by servicing this scooter model.

I would request TVS to take some action to save face.
