Hi frendz,
I am Sanyam, pursuing B.Tech from hyderbad. I searched the forum and didnt find anything satisfying on Graptor, here's a review on Graptor.
Disclaimer - All the factors rated are my personal thoughts.
The story starts in july after getting placed in IBM, I wanted to have a bike to have fun in final year on hyderabadi roads. I was to buy a pulsar or an ambition. Moreover, I wanted to buy the bike from hyderabad as there are lots of problems bringing the bike (a new one) from bhopal and the registration issue's. There was no chance I was getting a Graptor as it was not launched in south zone. I thought of ambition as I never felt comfortable riding Pulsar. CBZ was expensive and fuel inefficient. Fazer looked stupid and an alien on indian roads.
I did a good amount of research on all the bikes in the market, I could possibly own. Even searched forums like xbhp.com and mouthshut.com and read few issues of autocar india and overdrive. I liked the specifications of Graptor but wasn't sure of it as it carried the name of LmL. After the long wait, I finally got a new ravishing Grey Graptor. I was not prepared for it untill, I took the test ride in bhopal when I went for vacations. I think the test ride changed my mind which is a story in itself.

Comparison which mattered for me
These were the few qualities, I was looking for.
Stylish
Good Pickup & Power
Comfortable riding
Easy handling
fuel efficient
Style - CBZ tops the list in this category. Graptor gave a new refreshing look with the new diamond frame design. Bikes in india normally comes with a smooth and curvy design but this one came with cuts and I like the cuts. The design seemed to be inspired by the current trend in Europe for big-bore naked sports bikes - bikes like the Ducati Monster and Graptor's namesake Cagiva Raptor. Pulsar is also good but I dont know why, it didnt fascinated me much. Fiero was out of question coz of its old and dull looks.
Pickup and Power - Pulsar picks up in this category. CBZ and Graptor are equally good but pulsar has an edge due to its DTSI technology. Although if u leave out the pick up and consider rpm to speed ratio P150 and Gptr are neck to neck. Fiero sux in pickup and power.
Comfort - CBZ and Graptor are good. Pulsar is not to be named in this category. With its fat and ugly fuel tank which makes your legs wide open isnt a bit comfortable.
Considering the ride and handling, Fiero with a thin rear tyre, is not very good at high speeds and Pulsar is bulky and difficult to handle in small turns. I would rate both Graptor & CBZ as the best in comfort and stability at high speeds but I found one disadvantage in CBZ is that u have to fold the footrest every time u have to kickstart the bike.
- Handling - Graptor with its new diamond shape frame and 170mm ground clearance is the easiest bike to handle at high speeds. Next comes CBZ and Fiero. I personally never liked pulsar's heavy handle to maneuver.
All the GenX sports bikes sport this design. Just have a look at Yamaha R1 or honda cbr 125. Even bikes in Dhoom the suzuki's stunning red/black Hayabusa and the yellow Bandit comes in a diamond frame. Moreover this diamond steel frame is not for style but gives a great balance at high speeds and curves which makes the handling smoother.
- Fuel Efficient - Fiero gives a better mileage than any in this category, then comes graptor, pulsar and cbz in order. Havent seen a pulsar giving above 50kmpl in normal riding (riding @ 60-65 kmph) in my campus (iiit hyd). Graptor comes with a CDI technology (common nowadays, ambition names it as AMI) stands for Controlled Digital Ignition which takes care of fuel efficiency. It easily gives above 50kmpl and I even touched 60kmpl when rode it in economy zone (ie 50kmph).
I would have bought a CBZ Star if it was a little cheaper and fuel efficient.
Conclusion -
This phrase is already mentioned in this forum, but it suited so perfectly for me atleast.
# IF u want a bike with Power but only for City conditions, and if style doesnt matters much, then go for FIERO.
# IF u want a bike with excellent performance and comfort, but mostly for Highway rides and out of city travels and can compromise on cost and mileage, go for CBZ.
# IF u want a bike which balances both the scenarios, then go for GRAPTOR, which I feel has succeded in balancing all factors like Power, Style, Comfort and Performance.
Factors which made my decision easier to buy a Graptor
Price ! Rs 54,000 on road in bhopal.
Superb electronics - Blue lit control panel, halogen headlight, hazard alarm, spoiler light, choke in hand, loudest horn among all others.
smaller things taken care off, like right foot guard for not getting in contact with engine, gear lock while on a side stand.
Strong suspension and excellent front disc brakes.
One feels proud to own a stylish and a different bike. 1st in my institute and 2nd in hyderabad.<SIZE=2></SIZE=2><FONT=ARIAL></FONT=ARIAL><BLACK></BLACK>
<U>Factors which make me suggest this bike to others
</U>
Its been 45 days I got my babe, havent faced any problems although got a few scratches while getting it frm bhopal to hyd via train. The mileage varies with riding speed.
It gives -
60 kmpl if not above 50 kmph
53 kmpl on 60 kmph.
48 kmpl on 70 kmph.
first service is over and the milometer says 1200 kms. I have some question regarding Graptor.
Although the service was good, I think the mechanics fiddled with petrol setting to get better avg. and now the bike stops down sometimes on traffic light if I dont acc. to keep it running. Is this the problem with petrol setting or can be some other stuff ??
What speed limits should I follow now after I have crossed 1200 kms.
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
