Bajaj Legend - 4 stroke Reviews

My dad's choice
Sep 24, 2002 03:01 PM 16383 Views

Every time my dad gives his old vehicle a wash, he says, ''I'll never give away this vehicle for it has served me better than anything else. This vehicle is unmatched in its category''. Yes, that is a Bajaj Chetak that I am talking about. This vehicle is a king (in realms of the scooter kingdom). Having been the single largest selling model in world scootering history, the king’s time is up. Yeah, the king is dead, Long live the king. Then, what else is the substitute? The substitute is none other than the new Bajaj Legend NXT, which adds to a strong new commitment and innovative zeal to the Bajaj’s core strength in scooters. Let us see if this scooter can be the right replacement for the king.

Styling: The Legend is a modern day Chetak. A lot of importance has been given to styling out here. With an all new look, the Legend has the best looking headlight for an Indian scooter. The paint job is top notch and styling of the instrument panel adheres to the concept of pure functionality. With a contoured seat, the Legend has a simple yet effective tail lamp unit and the mirror stalks are lovely. The Legend grabs instant attention with the headlight assembly and stylized indicator wedges. The rearview mirrors are among the best I have seen on a two wheeler on Indian roads, providing a clear and undistorted view. Though the absence of foot rest for pillion rider is felt, two people can have a good little ride. So the Legend is far more superior than Chetak in terms of styling.

Suspension and Braking: With monocoque chassis, the Legend provides a world of difference in terms of superior braking when compared to Chetak. Brake bias is well distributed between the front and rear and there was never a problem of the brakes locking, in any of my rides. To be seriously speaking, the shocks are really good. Hence the suspension has also got a boost. Yes, the Legend wins over the Chetak even on this count.

The Engine: A 4-stroke engine coupled with a 145 cc, 8.8 bhp plant, the scooter emerges as the most powerful in its category. But this power would not be too effective were it not for a good gearbox to transmit it to the rear wheel. With a CDI ignition system, the engine is neatly placed under a plastic forced air cooling shroud, hence keeping it safe. Take my dad’s words, it never lets you down in peak traffic or at high speeds.

Performance: If you think that the Legend is a sedate performer, Oh mine, I am sorry. You are wrong. Though this scooter is definitely not going to be entertained at a drag meet; what it is best at is puttering through city streets with considerable ease at a steady 40 kmph. It is the form that is most important. With a top speed of 90 kmph the Legend is a tough performer, easily competing with any of the motorbikes. As of handling, it is always a bit tough with engine weight being one sided, but a proficient person can easily manage. With great braking, handling is not a big problem.

Mileage: Well, ultimately it all boils down to this for many. The Legend turns out an overall mileage of 55 kmpl and that is pretty good for a scooter. Of course, with time it’ll reduce marginally to 45 kmpl but definitely, it is a good buy.

My Verdict: So here we are after having a detailed in-look of the bike. To sum it up I can say that the Legend is a humble successor of Chetak and has taken over Chetak in more aspects than one. Maybe for a bike lover like me this vehicle upsets a lot but for someone who uses a scooter, you better have this one because it is the modern age Chetak that’ll be your best option. Well, this is my dad’s choice and hope many of you have similar choices.

Convenience and Efficiency rolled into one!

Bajaj Legend gives the convenience of a scooter and the fuel efficiency of a 4-stroke bike at the same time! This is a perfect scooter for small families who are planning to buy a budget bike. My advice would be to go for the Legend instead. It is well-balanced and smooth to ride with adequate power to carry your entire family! Add to this, storage space, a spare tyre and a pollution-free four-stroke engine - and you have an unbeatable combination. The icing on the cake is the price though, several thousand less than the cheapest 4-stroke bike. Not to mention its sturdy good looks.

I have owned one for two years and have no complaints, except the slightly higher-than-usual maintenance cost. But that shouldnt deter you, so go for the Legend!

Too Good

A Flying Machine on Two Wheel! A Maruti on Two Wheel! Ya, this is a really good powerful machine on two wheels. This is a two wheeler in the category, with 4 stroke, 4 gear, scooter, only best driving machine in the category. Ya this is a scooter a fuel efficient one, and of course a reputed brand machine from Bajaj Auto. This is a most powerful riding machine. A Scooter! no its a bike, yes. A bike which is better than motor cycle. Only without a self starter. Thats the only disadvantage of the vehicle and has got too much of vibrations. otherwise it is a marvel on two wheels. But NO /b Resale /b Value for the machine. But a good dela, good buy.

Who says its good!!!!!!

Who ever says that the legend is a good scooter must be talking thru his head.. I personally use this piece of machine and believe that its not worth the the amount of money thats put into it....

Absolutely no resale value.. No average as the company boasts..... Its got a horrible braking system.. Useless and weak pressure plates and no good clutch and accelerater wires.. Any 4 stroke user will tell you that that the clutch wires rub in easy and are easily destroyed.....

Any way I have been horribly let down by the copmpay and to add to it my scooter gets house full at 140/- rs.. May be has a tank capacity of 5 lts.... Thata what I am guessing .. If still there are die hards fans then why dont you buy my one year old scooter for 20,000/-

Wait & watch

Whom so ever is planning to buy the newly launched scooters I would like to suggest them to better not to blindly trust on company advertisements and others opinions as company will obviously say that this is the best, obviously and the opinions of others are may be wrong as this products are new and the problems in the product may come little later. what ever product it may be it has to be time tested also see Bajaj Chetak (the normal one).. it is popular and tested since decades .. better wait and watch now and let new products prove themselves .. and it may take some time. I am not of the view that new products are bad but I feel it takes time to get their actual performance report.

Fantastic performer

This is one hell of a machine.i thought it to be a laggard as it was a 4 stroker but it demolished this myth.it drives fabulously and has a brilliant ride.it gives oodles of driving pleasure and to top it all it gives a fantastic fuel average of about 45-50.it has plenty of performance and is no weakling.it can overtake on highways with the minimum of fuss.the only glitch is that its third gear is quite weak and brings performance down.overall it endows one with a good ownership experience and I would rate it 4 out of 5 .if u want a sturdyand well built performer and good mileage then this is the one to go for.
