Bajaj legend 4stroke

The scooter that have the looks and revolution in the time of 70s and 80s it comes out like that.but in the comfort zone you cant handle it with a care the scooter consumes a lot of fuel with the engine oil and the strokes of 4cant be made so easily in your hand thus the seater arrangement cant be so smoth for one or two seater.as a scotter level it is quite good for its bajaj branding but it has not efdective after the days of past in 2000.so bring it upon its head and make it sold to the garage as it making so much money loss

Certainly the most stylish & powerful of its time
Jul 06, 2016 05:52 PM11524 Views

In its 16th year since the purchase in year 2000, it's still running strong. Starts in 1st kick with no issues whatsoever. The 150cc power is unmatchable till date.

With a little maintenance, it beats modern bikes. People who lack this maintenance, keep cribbing about it. I am sad it didn't become popular and the era of scooties took over. But this is undoubtedly the best scooter I have ever driven.

I purchased this scooter on last year I purchased second hand , its 2000 model he used it for 10yrs now I am using still its start in single kick. yesterday I serviced. No one can beat this. low maintenance, good fuel consumption, good looks , good pick-up, Smooth driving, Bajaj Legend with TRICS - Throttel Regulated Ignition control system, four stroke engine, you will never know unless you drive it.

Trust me, its fantastic.

Handling awesome, it gives 40kmpl on road, riding is very comfortable, its good for long drive also.

nice built quality. as compare to eterno legend is good . The body of eterno [back part] is vibrate while accelerate more but in legend nothing like this , this is best scooter in the world. 145 cc with very nice sound and good pick-up.

I cross 90km/p.hr  in western express highway. easily it cross more but I don't want st-reach my baby's legs. but bad part is low head light and horn. otherwise its best. But because the production is stopped so hard to get parts.

Overall, its fantastic full of retro look with new technology.....

The LEGEND of a LEGEND
May 27, 2013 08:18 PM12774 Views

I have a Bajaj Legend 2000 model, and I am using it since 13 years, I got the engine overhauled 2 years ago with new block/piston/Connecting rod and a new Spaco Carburetor used in Chetak, The scooter gives me a millage of 85 KMPL!!!!! its saving a lot of money with almost ZERO maintenance cost I dont think any other company will built such a wonderful scooter ever again, It is the first Side engines Four Stroke scooter ever built, with a very decent luggage space, leg room, and wide cushion seats, if anyone of you guys have this scooter, than please don't through it, it could be value for money if properly restored, also spare parts are available at a thrown away price at old Bajaj dealers.

My average running is 28 kms per day and therefore its proving me cheaper even than the public transport in Hyderabad !!!!!, If you go for an LPG conversion, probably the running cost will go down further by upto 35% depending upon where you live,  if you don't trust me, I would be much happier in offering you a test ride in Hyderabad (AP),

The primary reason for Failure of this scooter was the Rise of the Motorcycle Trend across the country and poor service from the Bajaj Dealers....

A LEGEND is a LEGEND that never dies!!!!!

Best scooter ever

Fuel Effiecient but not reliable
Jul 25, 2010 12:55 PM15484 Views

In spite of having 150cc engine there has been a problem regarding its horse power. Its fine for plains but not for hilly terrains like north east. It has overflow problem & bad clutch discs. It is Fuel Efficient & Non-polluting. It is Fuel Efficient but not reliable, may shut down any moment , anywhere. Mechanical parts aren't available everywhere. Even petrol filled from pump sometimes isn't enough for its smooth running.

After all its sound is smooth & soothing without any mechanical noises. It requires more maintenance as compared to other vehicles. Poor lights and horn. Quite Heavy about 121 kgs and strong.

A wonderful machine...
Oct 17, 2006 05:14 PM13442 Views

I bought the Legend in May 2001 and have had only a fewminor problems with the vehicle.

The vehicle has completed over 40000Km till date & the only main problemwas its clutch plate & pressure plate which had to be replaced 3 times.

In all other aspects this vehicle is a wonderful machine. It gives a mileage of 45-50kmpl depending upon my riding style (fast or moderate). The pickup of the vehicle is very good and it can beat almost all bikes below 150cc from a standing start. On straight stretches you can do 80km without straining the engine much. I at times miss the 5th gear while riding it. The engine sound toois subdued and at times when you depress the clutch to change gears you tend to wonder if the engine has switched off.

The only modification carried out on the vehicle was the fixing of external ROOTS horns as the horn provided by the company was too weak and was not serving its purpose.

The vehicle misses an electric start option. Allthough provision had been made to bring out a model with an electric start but none materialized. Even the users manual mentions the electric start.

I travel 1200-1300km every month & regular servicing of the vehicle (every 2months) has ensured that this vehicle performs well at all times.

Believe it or not, I have seen a Legend right here in Delhi which has been modified to be driven by a handicap person (he doesn’t have his right hand). The accelerator has been placed on the floor like a pedal next to the rear brake pedal & he drives the Legend around town without any side support wheels.

150cc power with poor cluch/gear system
Apr 11, 2006 06:11 PM14735 Views

Hi,

I took wrong decesion when I bought Bajaj Legend.

It is a 150cc scooter. It gives good power while riding on highway, but it major drowback is very poor cluch/gear system. Today even after 8 year of purchse of this ''white elephant'', changing gears is most difficult part. Even Bajaj company changed the cluch kit in Pune while garanty period, but still I am facing problem in changing gears.

Second drowback is poor efficiency. It gives 30-32 kmpl milage.

Third problenm is found that after every 2000 km ride oil gasket has to be chaned. Otherwise in morning I found 2-3 drops of oil on the floor coming from engine.

While riding I found pickup is very good, headlight is very good. But brakes are not much good to control its speed.

Overall very bad product of Bajaj...So Bajaj aslo gave up supporting/making parts of this ''Legend'' !!

Its amazing
Mar 15, 2006 06:04 PM12963 Views

Hai guys ,i own this bike from the past 6 years

and belive the its amazing great fun to ride amazing

looks, dashing performance great pick up and mind

boggling sound for a scooter ,i think this babe gave

me such performance coz I made a point to service it

and get the engine oil change every 2300-2500 km

and its 52000kms done so far and its still feels great.

i feel no other scooter matches its looks and sound and

its truely a legend.the sad part is the scooter is now out

of production and hence spare parts are hard to find and

i feel that this product was not marketed properly by bajaj

coz when ever I go out many people ask which scooter looks

and sounds good !!!

the only worst part about the bajaj is the crm of the bajaj really sucks!!!

A ''Legend'' in it's own mind?
Aug 26, 2005 08:35 PM15781 Views

I have just put 1500 miles on my Legend in an urban and sub-urban environment.

First, let me say, I have 35 years of scooter and motorcycle experience and have owned most brands: Vespa, Allstate, Honda, etc..

As a former Industrial Design Prototype Specialist, I am well versed in all aspects of product design, development and manufacturing. Including: welding, machining, metal forming, electronics, hydraulics and so on.

The Legend has good solid construction. The joints are tight and well fitted. Machined parts fit cleanly. Mechanically, it's hard to find faults.

The transmission shifts easily and has hardly any gear lash. This tells me the machined tolerances are close and that the gears mesh correctly. The engine is strong in the upper end and does not lug up hills. First gear is low enough to pull up any hill I've encountered.

Although it's probably an affront to the ''classic look'' purist's, the updated horn, lights, and turn signals are large and visible. Handling and ride are on a par with any Vespa I ridden. Probably better due to the 4-cycle engine, which has better high-end power on hills and also holds back when decelerating.

The basic drum brakes have good stopping power and are smooth and the anti-dive feature keeps you in control. On the downside: the factory tires are not the best and the mirrors are too close inboard for good rear viewing... both problems I easily fixed with new replacements.

This is a great scooter and will lend itself to customizing by individual riders.

Every classic Vespa enthusiast should have a reliable, modern Bajaj to ride daily

While he enjoys weekends on his classic. After all, this is the MODERN equivalent to a classic Vespa.

When I considered buying a Legend, I read many comments that portrayed it as a basic simple cheap version of a Vespa... it is not. It's a high tech version with a superior engine and power train, yet it retains the best of the classic scooters: metal construction, dependability, and beautiful lines.

Fun!
Oct 31, 2004 01:25 AM13836 Views

My 2002 Bajaj Legend is my first scooter purchase. I bought the Legend because Bajaj' is seen as a very reliable scooter, and all of the guys running the scooter shop ride them. I figured this was my best bet.

They told me about the problems with the 2002 models, which they ended up fixing for the 2003 models. All of the problems I could potentially encounter (clutch going out, et cetera) are all covered under the one year warranty. This was also another reason I considered buying this scooter. So far I've only taken it to the shop once to have my cables tightened (and of course an oil change).

I love the power my scooter has. Since it's a 4 stroke, it's quiet, fuel efficient, and can really conquer any large hill I come across. Sometimes I have difficulty popping it into first gear, but it isn't anything more than a minor annoyance. The scooter has pretty good breaking power (for a scooter), but I recommend rain tires for year round. They have a better grip.

This scooter has been nothing but good to me since I've owned it. It takes me to school and back, and then to work all for under $2 a week in gasoline.

Buy a Bajaj (a Chetak if you're interested in the vintage look) if you are a beginning scooterist. It's clean, reliable, and pretty damn stylish too.

Scooter ride with cars maintenance
Sep 23, 2004 12:09 PM13209 Views

Well, I have been using Bajaj Legend since 3 years and I personally feel that this is one of the best scooters that are present in the market.

Best part is the comfortable riding and engine power. Ride is so smooth, that you can ride it for hours.

I ride it at more than 75 km/hr (on toll bridge) , and still have complete control over it. I think this is much better than many bikes in terms of performance.

It can carry great loads and climb steep areas easily.

Another good thing is its shock absorbers, they are great!

Its engine noise is very low as compared to other scooters making it different from others.

But on the other side of it, it requires maintenance, The amount of money that I spent on my scooter after buying, I would have maintained a car (with petrol and servicing costs included)... but still I love my legend.....and finding it difficult to leave..

Also, I feel the height of the scooter is bit too much. They can redesign this.

Bajaj Legend- Powerful 4 stroke performer
Sep 04, 2003 07:11 PM20049 Views

I owned a Bajaj Legend for 4 years.

I bought it when it was new in the market- in 1999 without knowing how it would be in terms of performance, economy and handling.

I loved its big boy looks though and its trendy headlight. Also the balance in the bike was much more than other traditional side engined Bajaj scooters due to the presence of the spare wheel on the left side. Good switchgear and a pass switch- a first on scooters in India.

The 9 bhp engine was a mighty performer with tremendous mid range grunt. Overtaking was easy and braking inspired confidence. Top speed was about 90 kmph.Decent handling and a near perfect handlebar position made driving effortless. I consistently got a 50 kmpl mileage on the Legend all the time.

There were two major flaws in the scooter. The first was the absence of an external petrol cock- so we had to rely on the fuel indicator(which conked off in a year). Also the TRICS- Throttle Regulated Ignition Control System- a first for Bajaj (the Bajaj Wind 125 also features this system)- had a problem. If you rode the bike at a constant speed of 50 kmph over long distances- there used to be petrol overflows. Many a time it would take some time and real hard kicking to get the engine back to life.

Unlike 4 stroke motorcycles, geared 4 stroke scooters were a flop as they did not offer value to the customer in terms of mileage as contemporary 2 stroke technology was offering the same mileage. Both TVS Spectra and Bajaj Legend were unceremoniously dumped from the production line. As a result now parts are hard to come by and the the scooter has no resale value.

The Legend was launched at a time when demand for scooters was reducing. The Bajaj Legend would have been the king of scooters in India if it had been launched 10 years earlier.

Robust on the road
Feb 16, 2003 02:05 PM12014 Views

This is robust rambo on the road. I don't think this shld be buy by the persons caring for the average or resale value. I don't own this rambo but I used to ride ont it frequently inspite of having other robust in my company. you can ride on this at speed touching to 100km/hr without shaking your body but its sound can create a thud in passer by's heart. I promise you personally experience it. I am worried about the trend in market that buyers are worried about the resale value of rider than enjoying the thunderous riding and safety.it will always give you the average of 40-50 at the whatever speed you ride.

thank you!

The worst i have ever seen....
Feb 10, 2003 10:40 AM12799 Views

I own a Bajaj Legend, which I have to keep out of compulsion. It never worth it's value. I have purchased it when it was introduced new in the market. I got tired of it within 6 months. Neither it is easily repairable nor it has comfort in ridding. Also milage is very poor. It is now lying useless at my home. I am unable to sell it because of it having no resale value. Unfortunately the product is now out of market which is more painful. It's weight is also not comfortable. I will never recommend any person to purchase Legend any more. It is total failure.
