It was blurred vision. A small figure under a very bright light, my semiconscious mind imagined that the heaven gates have opened and an angel has arrived. The first cry, and announcing the arrival on earth, brought smile on everyone’s face, present there.
I heard a faint sentence “Congrats Mrs. Jain, it’s a baby boy, and he is perfectly healthy baby” and I closed my eyes and thanked the almighty. He stood beside me, I looked at him and smiled and he held my hand, smiling. Nurse requested him to wait outside, and I looked back at the observation table where I saw him, fully awake, analysing the new world. The nurse wrapped him in a sheet and proceeded towards the NICU, and I said, can I hold him for a moment.
“Are u sure?” doctor was little surprised, and I smiled, and she kept him in my lap. Then I saw two big black eyes on a small face, with uneasy expressions, the unfixed gaze. Those moments, and I felt, I have taken a new birth.
God’s gift, perfect baby, but very particular, takes care of his needs on time, and he would never bother you. A silent observer, a fast learner, but quite introvert, who started walking in ten months and spoke fluently when he was 16 months old. His first experiments with language, pronouncing Leraince instead of Reliance, “Mummy I love the fragrance of “BajarBatti”, Bajarbatti??? Oh! He meant “Agarbatti” or incense sticks. I guess these memories will never fade away.
He loves to play cricket, you can always spot him with a ball in hand. He is a well informed kid, about bodyline cricket, all International teams, IPL, statistics, fielding positions, and many more things which even I am not aware of. Prefers to watch a match over cartoon anytime. I now shamelessly admit, “I don’t know the answer of your question, either I will google it or you can ask your dad”. Also a PS2 and zapak buff.
He is a delight for the teachers, as in spite of being a boy, he is very obedient and a self learner. He would come back from school and tell me “Today that child didn’t bring his lunch, or his lunch spilled over, so I shared mines with him”. Neither I could scold him or appreciate him, so silently I have increased his meal contents.
I look at you before I sleep and see you the moment I wake up, thank the god, for blessing me with you, I love u, god bless you always. All my love on your seventh birthday.
Precious and priceless,
so lovable, too-

baby, is you. ~ Helen Steiner Rice
