The river and the city

By: bebylon | Posted Sep 15, 2010 | General | 396 Views

Before this month whenever I crossed the ITO Bridge above Yamuna River, I feared to see downside. I knew below there once was a River, full of streaming and sparkling water. But now that river does not exist, it has long gone and now changed into a dirty drain carrying sluggish muddy and poisonous Industrial mud, toxic wastage and dirt of this sinned city. There was encroachment everywhere, city is growing from all side, and people want to havoc the river too. Agencies were planning to pocketing million of rupees in the name of cleaning the river.

And then suddenly two months back, rain god showed his fury, river came into its wildest existence, sulking all the encroachments around it, water crossed its banks, devastated all that came in its way. River once again became the river, just like a newly bride, full of beauty youthfulness, and vigorousness making fun on skyscrapers as saying - Look I am here as young as I used to be, and able to swallow the whole city.

Inside the city traffic was crawling, limousines were struck, there was panic and woes of flood. People speculated that The river might cross its borders, the water might enters into houses, the drains could backflow and there was possibility of sailing the boats on the newly constructed roads especially designed for the CWG. People at work, in home, on roads prayed to the god (which they have long forgotten) to stop this furious water.

And then water went down; the nature has showed the trailer of its anger. That was probably enough to wash our sins .
