Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was today slapped by a youth at a public function claiming he was angry with corruption and price rise.
Pawar, 71, who went to a literary function at a public auditorium on Parliament Street, was slapped by Harvinder Singh, a transporter in his thirties who had reportedly assaulted former Telecom Minister Sukhram outside Rohini Court on Saturday after he was sentenced in a corruption case.
An unidentified man Tuesday slapped and hit Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee former chief Suresh Kalmadi with a slipper at the Patiala House court here.
Kalmadi, who was arrested Monday in connection with alleged irregularities in the granting of contracts for the Games, spent the night in a Central Bureau of Investigation lockup.
Former Telecom Minister Sukhram was on Saturday (today) slapped and kicked on a Delhi court premises by an unidentified person (Harvinder Singh). The bizarre incident occured few minutes after Sukhram was sentenced to five years rigourous imprisonment by a Delhi Court.
Ex-telecom minister found guilty of taking Rs 3 lakhs as bribe to give a lucrative contract to a private firm in 1996. He will also have to pay a fine of Rs 4 lakh.
Sukhram, 86, had been held guilty for misusing his official position during his tenure as Telecom Minister in P V Narasimha Rao's cabinet in giving a cntract woth Rs 30 crore to a private firm Haryana Telecom Limited (HTL) to supply 3.5 lakh Conductor Kilometers (LCKM) of Polythene Insulated Jelly Filled (PIJF) cables to telecom department.
Every Political party condemned the incident.
