I was one of those students who had the misforture of travelling 50kms everyday by bus to go to college everyday.. Afternoon classes never interested anyone of us so we always ended up bunking them and leave to house in city buses rather than wait for the college bus.. I had never travelled by bus before but I had to now.. Had no other option..
The more I travelled by bus the more I understood how difficult the job of a bus driver is, firstly it is so monotonous, the same route every day, he has to sit all day, secondly his job is so responsible, one mistake and a lot of lives are lost, thirdly the expectations people seem to have out of them, the bus should always arrive on time,1000 people asking them if that bus goes to a particular area.. we get irritated if a friend tells a story twice, I cant imagine what thier plight is! and similar is the position of a bus conductor!
Then I realized something, if you take any job be it a bus driver, policeman, traffic police, sweeper, carpenter even your maid for that matter, imagine doing the work of 5-6 households!! those people work as hard as any other person in any other job would do but why are they paid so less? and why is that we tend to look down upon them?dont they deserve a little bit of respect?
India is a cricket, movie crazy country. .I get that! I am no different.. but what I dont get is the frenzie we have for celebrities.. why are they treated so speacially? and let me not even get started on the crazy amounts of money they make! Why are people so worried about a particular person they dont even know but people who really work for us, we dont seem to bother about them!!
You are proud that Dhoni gets 6crs for three years for CSK, but you hate that autowallah who dint give you 1rs change,I have seen many of my frnds haggling madly on streets for 5 or 10rs but paying (happily) the double amount for the same things in "malls"!!
Movies are meant for entertainment, watch them.. Cricket is exciting.. watch it too.. but why would you idolize some1? The day we stop seeing them as gods and start treating them as normal people.. and treat every1 equally we will truly progress..
I would want to end with a beautiful thing that my hindi teacher in school always told us, I never understood the relevance it had until recently.."Everyone is destined to do something, dont worry about what job you are in.. Take pride in what ever you are doing,Treat everyone equally"!!
