I was regularly using the Yellow Cab for my transportation to office from my hotel and coming back as I was having an corporate account with them during my current visit to Tampa, Florida. Normally the driver happens to be a Colombian or a Canadian or a Mexican. That day I was expecting the cab and I got a call from the Driver that the cab was waiting for me in front of the office premises. With the accent I was sure he was an Indian and so was bit happy that at last I found someone with whom I can speak in Hindi. So I went to the cab and when he asked me where I want to go I gave him the address of my office using Hindi. Then our conversation started in Hindi with the normal topics like how long we have been to US and so on.
Then I asked him which place in India he was from and he said he was from Lahore. We had a good chat in the journey and after that I met him many a times in my hotel lobby waiting for me to take me to the office. There was a bonding developing between us as we were close neighbours staying away from our own countries and so it was like meeting someone from our homeland. We became friends and used to hang around in the weekends together. After meeting him I came to some collusions like though politics of both the countries tries their best to make the citizens hate each other still there are many similarities which are in fact enough to exhibit brotherhood if given an honest effort.
The common man everywhere in the world looks for few basic things, a good family life, a decent job, friends to hang around, good food, good music, hates any act of terrorism. Across political boundaries common men are very similar, their needs are very similar, they think similarly. There are really few people who think differently and create all the hatreds, all the misunderstandings to satisfy their own egoism. I asked myself, if two Indian and Pakistani can be really good friends 14000 KMs away from home, why they can’t embrace each other as brothers at home?
