While many of us sleep peacefully, there are others who have been up for nights without even blinking for the fear that they may lose the sight of their loved one. While one part of Kolkata lives on, the other part waits in hope to see their loved one (even if they are dead). Their hopes dying with every passing hour. The tears flowing non-stop. And what do political leaders have to say to all this, "We will give a compensation of two lakhs to the families which have suffered."
Will this suffice for the needs of the families whose sole earning members have died in this horrible fire. Have these people who are equally responsible for this disaster even looked at the forlorn faces of the mothers who have lost their child or the wives whose husband died earning a square meal for them. NO!!! They have not!!. Had they seen them then they would have realized their negligence has led the families to a disaster.
How were the builders given permission to use a building for commercial purpose when they had violated all the rules. No building is registered without inspection. Then how come these authorities overlooked the norms of fire regulations here. Are not these authorities equally responsible for the tragedy. Will the compensation being given by the government really compensate the loss these families have suffered. Will it compensate the negligence of the fire department who managed to do nothing at the sight. When a mere man single handedly could save the lives of 20 people how come the fire department officers, who are better equipped than the common man, could manage to save none. They came unprepared. While many people jumped from the roof tops to save their lives they had nothing to help them, not even those cushions which are used in such situations.
They have money and lots of it to make a garland for Mayawati. But they do not have anything for the common man. Mayawati was honored twice with a garland made of notes. The first amounting to 2crores and the second to almost 5 cores. What had she done to receive this honor? How come the political leaders forget that the money is not theirs but its ours. It is we who pay the taxes the COMMON MAN. But we pay it for the betterment of our country. Not to garland such people who do nothing for the country. While cores of people are dying due to poverty there are many who sleep on beds made of 1000 rupees notes.
Instead of eating up all the money if the government could use even a part of it for the common man then at least they could have managed to save a few more lives. But no all they can think of is their betterment and let the country rot. When I see these people all around me I really feel that our freedom fighters were really dumb. They fought for their entire life for a free INDIA but what have we got instead. A country whose people are asleep and that too so sound asleep they are that you cannot wake them. At times one really feels that even though the British tried to exploit us yet they did some good work for the country (they brought the railways and the postage system after all).
Recently I read in a paper that we don’t have to become Jhansi Ki Rani for acquiring our rights. But how many of us may agree to this I do not know. But I dont agree to it for even a percent. Today we actually need people like Jhansi Ki Rani. It will only be through people like her that we can actually do some thing for the betterment of our country.
