LET ME BE...

Evolution is the only belief that is supported by proof. So, we've got to vouch for it (like it or not).

But it's said that Religion begins where Science ends. Science has failed to give humanity the answer to many questions- for these, we stand at the door-steps of religion.

What, for that matter, religion is? We all may have our own definitions. That’s not important. Much water has run under the bridge since these have evolved and re-evolved over time’s unyielding span. The scary part comes when the aid of religion is taken to name the anonymous- blasphemy and jingoism. Religious persecution is a pun used by humbugs to transform crap into plausible statements. Religion is no longer the path to glory (though it should be). Man’s shrewd tactics have made it the shelter for antagonism and misanthropic ideals. The ideologies that once gave a meaning to life and retained sanity amongst nudity, have been moulded to meet the hunger of oppressors. It is now an excuse for anomalous habits.

No credulous creed will possibly teach me to stop musing with my brothers. But that’s what’s happening and it's all man's creation. Why? I know not…

Why has God been made the benchmark for sense and nonsense? Isn’t it rueful that the very Supreme Power we look up to in times of adversity is losing its identity and man’s wit is thrusting it into oblivion?

I, for one, hold it that both God and Devil reside in me and within every mortal on earth. It’s our acts which decide who has overpowered whom:

Hence, I am God when I help an ailing destitute and I am Devil when I make that very impoverished soul the laughing stock of society; I am God when I find solace in the arms of my parents and I am Devil when I deprive them of happiness; I am God when I shed tears for a victim of rape but I am Devil when I lecherously watch porn; I am God when I look at my fellows as Gods but I am Devil when I think of them as Devils. Man’s inner life embraces the whole multiplicity of Gods and Devils.

On the other hand, critics would say that it’s easier said than done. But it is also true that it is these critics who stand as an impregnable wall between the ‘saying’ and the ‘doing’. Break the wall, move ahead and halt not until humanity redeems itself!!

Another predicament arises when different religions proclaim their might and right over others. We've got to understand though:

"Religion is a multi-coloured lantern. Everyone sees light through a different colour, but the candle is always there in the middle."

Does it matter though? Is it a competition? Why can't we all be right without the need of proving the others wrong? Isn't that what a democracy should be? Everyone should have the power to hold his opinion but no one should be tyrannical enough to force that opinion upon others...

Science, Atheism, Agnosticism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Jainism, Sikhism, Buddhism or whatever it is- we all breathe the same air, we all are nothing new under the sun...
