This diary post is dedicated to esteeemed MS member @deepak27, without his wonderful advise my dream would remain dream only.
Like other small kids,I also dreamed of a car from the age of 5 itself. Many times I asked dad, "Why don't we have a car"? He said,"When you grow up,you will buy one yourself. If I buy one now,it will become old fashioned. Then you will feel awkward to take it out". Whatever was the hidden meaning of that message, one thing was clear. If I want a car,I have to buy it myself.
I started saving money from my monthly allowance when I was in high school. I had to sacrifice many temptations like plum pickle or mouth-watering panipuri. But I was determined to get a car when I grow up. In my dream the shiny, brand new silver car used to come regularly. I wanted to drive it myself. So when I was 18,I wanted to join a driving class. But mom never allowed me to do so. She had a feeling that girls look "less feminine" if they drive a car! Moreover,I was a tomboy then! My desire remained a desire only,I made up my mind that whenever I get a chance I will learn it.
In college days, many friends had their cars. But as I didn't have much friendship with them,I never got a chance to drive one. I got that chance when I was in university. I utilized it totally. Seeing the newly-bought car of our HOD,I felt a sharp pang of jealousy one day. He has another brand-new car, then also he bought this one. Well, that means who has money, can buy anything. Then I will try my best to earn it enough so that I also make my dream come true!
Struggle and determination,if go hand by hand,no obstacle can stand in their way. After four years of lots of compromises and sacrifices, finally I had enough money to buy a new car. Selection of brand, model, etc. were made long back. Now the booking had to be done. Deepak ji suggested many important things. On the day of booking I got my brother who worked for Mahindra previously. It was a good deal, we got everything which we required with many free goodies. The sales person from Mandovi Motors, Lavelle Road,Bangalore was a helpful person too. The test drive was a disaster, out of nervousness I just could not start the car that day. But I was satisfied with the reviews and explanation about this car. So we fixed the delivery date on Akshaya Tritiya, which is today. This day is considered very auspicious to the Hindus.Early morning we got the delivery as well as the papers and other accessories.
When the car-key was handed over to me,I felt like I've touched the sky! My dream came true after almost 20 years! The initial puja and other rituals were done after which I got the chance to sit in the car. It felt like heaven. I never felt so happy! I prayed to the God to hold my hand while I drive. Who says god is not there? If he was not there, who made my wishes true? Thank you god,for giving me the chance to fulfill my dream. And sincere thanks to the MS members who were with me throughout this process. I got my car,may god make all of your wishes come true,my dear friends. Have a nice day.
