A live embarrassment

By: pranay22 | Posted Aug 05, 2010 | General | 901 Views

I have stayed in Delhi all my life. I am so used to the city by now that if I move outside the place even for 5 days, I start comparing the various aspects of the city I am in to the city I have always resided in; and prefer Delhi in every matter. even if the other city has an advantage over the capital even in that particular respect. The city has made me dependent so much, that I cannot notice its flaws.

People find it too crowded, unsafe to live in with the dailies filled up with crime stories from page 2 to 11; infrastructure in a mess with half an hour of rains halting the traffic in 3/4th part of the city & road rage being as common as daily soaps.

I have avoided all that. I find it irritating to argue with someone who discusses so many negativities about the same place which has sheltered me and in a way made me whatever I am. But lately, something has been going on; something very serious and hard to look by, that I myself included in all those categories of Indians who like to blame things on others when the blemishes on a large scale stand exposed.

The commonwealth games are approaching. 2 months to go. Everything prepared?

No one from the higher authorities seemed to be concerned about the BIG question till the out-of-hand situation stared them in the face. An enquiry is in place. The blame game has started. Its Gill v/s Kamladi v/s etc etc. Who's going to suffer? That nation!

A miracle of sorts can save things. A make or break situation for the nation's pride. If it fails drastically, the inquiries which have been going on with great care of not being leaked to foreign media, may find themselves being the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons. For the time being, Delhi has to cope up with the situation and Sheila Dixit has to face the brunt of the Indian media and people.

But then, why do I write this? I am a Delhiite, right? Its I who wrote the initial lines; the person who loves Delhi despite whatever it is! But I am upset today. Somehow, the Delhiite has replaced the Indian in me. A typical Indian who finds himself wedged and frustrated between the centre and state issues; the one who's struggling to stay afloat and happy despite the innumerable issues that the society has to cope up with.
