Worst experience with whirlpool
Sep 07, 2014 06:19 PM 39360 Views

I have bought  whirlpool AC in Aug-13. There was always cooling problem with the AC.  During warranty service personnel came and topped up with gas three times. But they never tried to rectify the leakage problem. As soon as the warranty expired,  the cooling problem started.  AC panel display gone within 1 month of warranty expiry and AC became non functional.  Fed up with the product quality of whirlpool.  These people including their dealers are cheating customers.

Whirlpool's Open Loot of Innocent Indian public
Jul 13, 2014 08:46 PM 40656 Views

I just want to inform you about my plight to the best of my abilities, rest if you really want to waste your money and peace of mind on buying third class Whirlpool Airconditioners, then it is entirely up to you.

I have an OGeneral AC in one room which is working perfectly well for the past 6 years without a Single problem.

3 years back I purchased this Whirlpool Mastermind Royale 1 TON A/C with 3 Stars for another room! I thought that I had purchased one of the best products in the market. Everything worked perfectly well for full one year.

Immediately in the second year, the cooling became zero! I immediately called up the whirlpool service centre, to my surprise Whirlpool was charging around Rs 350 or 400 just to visit your home(I don’t remember the exact amount but they are openly looting Indians). Finally after registering a service call and after making repeated crazy calls for two full days, the serviceman saahab finally arrived. Phew, what a relief. I thought that with just some small tinkering, the A/C will be running perfectly fine. How Stupid I really was!

After some checking, he immediately said that he couldn’t understand the problem and that he will have to take the A/C to the service centre. I reluctantly agreed as it was really hot in the summers and I wanted the get my A/C started within one two days. He said that our service van will come and pick up your A/C. But the service van never came. Finally after two days of repeated calling the service van finally arrived.

After they took the A/C, two days later one of the engineer called me up while I was in my office and said that the cooling coils of the A/C have to be replaced as they have got damaged due to some drains and acid vapors(bullssht). I protested that I live on the 3rd floor which is anyways very high and that there are no drains nearby and my other A/C is working perfectly fine for 6 long years. But the service engineer stuck to his guns and finally won. He quoted a hefty sum to replace the coils, I am forgetting the exact amount, but it made me sad.(Actually angry with myself for buying such a third grade pathetic Whirlpool A/C)

They took the A/C for full one and a half weeks in the peak of summer and my family was left hot and fuming with anger. They charged me heavily for replacing the coils and finally when the day came for them to return my A/C, they called me up and said that you have to deposit the money first, otherwise you will not get your A/C. I said first install the A/C and show that it is running perfectly well and then I will pay you gladly. Of course I earn well and just wanted to ensure that they have correctly rectified the A/C. But they said that this is the company policy, that first the customer pays the bill and only then the customer will get the A/C back!(Actually felt like paying a ransom)

Finally after paying the bill, they installed the A/C and I used it for the remaining summers of around 1.5 months. I was amazed that they gave a warranty of only a few months on the coil and on protesting they said that their cooling coils are venerable to failure and hence they can’t give a warranty of full one year on the same! A company engineer openly saying that their expensive cooling coils are prone to fail!

But hey STOP, the story doesn’t end here! After using the A/C for 1.5 months, we didn’t use it for the next 4 months(winter and OK months). Finally April came and we got another chance to switch on the Great Whirlpool A/C after getting it properly serviced and cleaned. Voila, after switching it on for full night, the difference in temperature is barely 1 or 2 degrees and a little bit of dry effect. This A/C can’t COOL(what’s the point of such an A/C). I am so angry on this pathetic product, that now I can barely stand to see this A/C. I know that there is no use calling the Whirlpool service team, as they will make another easy Rs 5, 000 on my behalf and the A/C will barely work well for another 2-3 months.

If I use this A/C for another 4-5 years, I am sure that I will be made to pay another Rs 20, 000 - Rs 25, 000 for the maintenance of this pathetic A/C. Although it was not cheap when I bought it, but it still was somewhat cheaper than OGeneral A/C. I am actually feeling like “Mehenga Roye Ek Baar, Sasta Roye Baar Baar”(Buying Expensive Repents Once, Buying Cheap Repents Again and Again). I have now made up my mind to throw out this A/C for good and get some really good and durable A/C for my room. At least I will be able to sleep in peace and cold comfort!

I do sincerely pray to God, that not even my Sworn Enemies have the misfortune of buying this Pathetic Whirlpool A/C!

Thanks and Regards(Hope your eyes have opened)

Amit Goyal.(A frustrated Whirlpool A/C user)

V Poor Customer service
May 02, 2013 01:42 PM 14971 Views

Installation guy comes from the whirlpool company (after several phone calls to the Shop) and tells we have to pay EXTRA for beam cutting ( 1000 to 1500 Rs ) and then he goes out and gets some pipe and plug and charges 150 and 80( but the MRP on the plug box says 69 Rs ) an lastly when he collects money he tells all the additions and when we ask why he did not ask us before he bought the pipe and plug, he tries to play around! Highly Unprofessional behavior from Whirlpool Installation person.

To add on the CSR on Phone does not seem to understand what we speak, and we have to spend money to call, its NOT TOLL FREE, and they keep you waiting, and the microphone of the 'CSR is not at audible!!!!

I am told We have to even pay for Demo, No one has come yet, I wonder what all we'll end up paying now that we have bought this AC. Hope this doesn't put holes in our pocket!

WHIRLPOOL DISASTER! CHINESE AC WITH POOR COOLING.
Mar 29, 2011 09:30 PM 18937 Views

I purchased a Whirlpool  3 star mastermind (Royal ) 1.5 ton window AC last year for Rs 20k. After Installation I saw a very small sticker on AC saying: MADE IN CHINA.

I was shocked, In spite of spending about 5k extra as compared to Lg, voltas etc I got an inferior Chinese product. The demo technician came after 2 days and on asking does the Ac cools at outdoor temp of 52 degree Celsius? He told no they work up to 45-46 degree Celsius only after which it trips because the compressor is not  tropicalised. Although whirlpool and dealers claim that it works up to 52. Just call the call centre no and you will hear a song saying this.

Anyway within a few days it was noticed that cooling is poor and in spite of running the ac for more then1.5 hrs with temp in AC set at 23C the room temp never went down below 25 degree C and the compressor kept on running continuously for almost 2 hrs but could not attain a temp of 23 degree Celsius. Only after 2.5hrs app it stopped automatically. Although my first floor flat, bed room size is 10 * 12 size  plus the AC is installed at a place where sunlight never comes.

The Noise levels of AC (fan + compressor) was also higher. The Unit was also taking a long time to start cooling app-6-8 mins in comparison to any other AC. So the service mechanic was called and he checked the unit for 2hrs and also checked the Temp at grill which varied from15.5 degree C to13 degree Celsius and return temp 27-25, Amperes, gas etc. At that time the outdoor temp was only 39 degree Celsius. As expected he told that the installation/ ventilation is not proper although the area had already been checked by an expert in the field prior to installation. He advised to install the unit in other window/location which actually has sunlight. I told him ok but for that you should give it in writing if cooling doesn’t improve then your company will be responsible. But he refused. In the meantime a neighbour in our block got the same AC and had similar complaints. A few days later I again called the customer care and the same process started again but their answer was same and this time mechanic told to throw some water on the condenser at back to make cooling effective.

I asked him are u crazyI have paid 20 k for an AC not a cooler. Finally I discussed the matter with a senior engineer from the company who himself came after few days in august and again checked the AC for more then 2 hrs but he gave the same views and said all whirlpool ac cool similarly. It was only a month back when the service tech came to service the AC and he told me the truth that since last 1-2 years whirlpool is getting the units manufactured from china and they are actually having a manufacturing defect: The speed of fan/blower is too high and does not allow refrigerant enough time to give cooling effect. More ever the filter also gets dirty very fast due to high air flow even at low speed and which is true because I had to compulsory clean it every week else cooling got further reduced. After this I thought of writing this review.

So my sincere advice is: please refrain from buying this cheap Chinese product/air cooler from whirlpool. Better to buy any Indian/Korean/Japanese brand AC with a 2-3 star rating having significantly better cooling, service and save up to Rs 5000.

Since whirlpool has now become a renowned brand its compromising on quality by selling AC’S with manufacturing defects followed by cheating consumers after installation.

AC 6 yrs old is outdated as per Whirlpool
Nov 16, 2010 04:06 PM 19034 Views

I had purchased a Whirlpool AC 1.5 tons some 6 yrs ago. It is a hardly used machine.

Of late the remote and instrument panel were not responding. When I contacted Whirlpool they said its an old machine and the same model is not being manufactured these days hence I have to replace the AC.

Why would I buy Whirlpool products in future if I have to replace them as spares are not available??

I think we consumers should select products from manufacturers who are specialists in them, not by mere brand value. I will of course replace this but with a much better brand who are experts in AC and do not phase out models often. Whirlpool also wanted to replace my AC for a value of Rs2 k for an AC which I had bought at Rs26k, and sparingly used..

Never buy Whirlpool products
Jul 07, 2009 03:41 PM 16302 Views

I have a fair share of domestic appliances from a variety of different firms. Curiously as it turns out, only 1 product from a non-Korean company, the Air conditioner from Whirlpool. Over the past weekend, we have had such a truly awful customer service experience that I have sworn never to buy any Whirlpool products and to spread the word out. Frankly, what the company has demonstrated is that once they have managed to sucker you into buying their product, they just don't give a damn. How you manage your life with/ without it is your problem, they are too busy counting your cash all the way to their bank.

Our air conditioner conked off last Thursday thanks to the wonderful voltage surges that are a delightful feature of life in Millennium city, aka Gurgaon, or as a bucktoothed KBC contestant said once, Gud Gaawan. Friday I called the Whirlpool service center, and was pleasantly surprised to find a polite voiced person on the other end who said I would get a call back within 2 hours to fix an appointment for a service visit at a time convenient to me. Wonderful, I thought, finally someone who appreciates the fact that the person owning an appliance has a life and may not want to stay home all day waiting for a service call.

No call back came within 2 hours. I called them back instead and asked what had happened. The call center person apologised but said the complaint had been logged in and I would get a service person at my home between 4 and 6 pm. By quarter to six I had to leave for a meeting, and no one had turned up. Since I haven't come this close to 40 years of age without any experience, I began to suspect what was coming but called up their service center anyway. I was then given the name of a service mechanic and informed that he would definitely be there by 7 pm and he had gotten held up on his way.

Somehow not surprised by 7 when the mechanic failed to show, I called the service center again, only to not get through. Instead, I was assaulted by a barrage of ads extolling Whirlpool products, and may I say, these ads do not go down well when an irritated and irate customer is waiting for their conked-off product to be serviced? I also heard the mechanical voice say that if I sent an sms to a certain number, I'd get a call back within 1 hour. Since I was busy in a meeting, I sent off the SMS, and by the end of the day, having received neither callback nor mechanic, went to sleep in the kids room, where the Voltas AC is functioning extremely well.

The next day, between my husband and I, we must have made 8 calls to the service center, getting more and more angry and frustrated each time. No senior person from the service/ call center was ever willing to come on the line, despite requests and we were met with stonewalls each time we insisted on having a name for the senior person, a contact number or waiting for the said person to be free. The call center would either cut off the line or transfer us to an automated menu.

Saturday evening someone gave us'a personal commitment' that someone would reach our home by 8 pm. Well, commitments really aren't what they used to be, are they? Sunday the same story was repeated, except that after some shouting and a serious upping of blood pressure, we got a supposed senior, "Sameer" calling us back and informing us that the service person would be there any time between 1 and 8 pm. So we were just supposed to press pause on our life/ plans and wait for Godot, who like the mythical character from the play, would end up not arriving, after all.

We have by now given up all hopes of this brand and asked a local mechanic to come from a nearby market. I am sure he will be as well trained and at least my expectation of response from him will be lower than that from a company. Meanwhile I am posting this to Indian blog sites to warn all consumers against buying Whirlpool products, because if they do, the burden of obtaining service from the brand will be on them and not the company.

There's just some things I don't understand. Why bother with setting up a call center and then not have it connected to a service center? Why bother spending millions of rupees on ad campaigns aimed at new customers rather than sowing and harvesting goodwill from existing customers by servicing them properly? I guess it's always easier to find a new sucker each time than go to someone you've burnt before.

Whirlpool AC
Oct 23, 2008 10:39 AM 17972 Views

Stupid service the after sales support is just bad for this AC. Please be careful before buying this product . Though the product is extremely good and very robust it has been coupled by very bad service levels. This was not expected from a company like whirlpool. The manual panel is as it is bad and the manual panel door is not shutting from the day I have purchased it. Though the cooling provided is good and covers the whole bedroom quite nicely. The energy matrix gives it a single star rating so on energy front consumes more electricity as well.

Though priced cheaper cannot be recommended to any one. Yes and it is quite heavy as well though at 1.5 ton acs are supposed to be heavy but the frame of this ac is big as well we had a general ka ac prior to this but that took very less space then this and we had to fit in with fillers for this ac.

Atrocious service levels for Whirpool AC
May 31, 2008 04:42 PM 16222 Views

I am writing not to review the quality of the product but to warn consumers not to touch whirlpool products given their poor service quality.

I am having a tough time trying to get my remote control unit changed for my AC after it had malfunctioned - now it is over 1 month ! To compound my problems, now the AC has conked off and Whirlpool has not been able to repair it in the last 15 days  - they are shameless enough  to admit that they do  not have the  requisite PCB in stock. Worst, they are not even promising a date by which they can fix the problem. I would have called up the Call Centre and the local Service Center some 100 odd times but to no avail.

I am trying to get hold of some numbers at Whirlpool regional office or head office so that I can scream at them - if any of you have it, please give me.

THINK TWICE ABOUT BUYING ANY WHIRLPOOL PRODUCT !

GOOD RELIABLE AC
Jan 24, 2008 12:38 PM 15922 Views

I have used this 1 ton Window AC for the past one year. The performance of the AC is good as the main component, the compressor, is sourced from Mitsubishi Industries Ltd. The AC cools a 120 sq ft room comfortably and the noise levels are tolerable. There are no issues with the power bills too. However it is the service which causes one to feel peevish.

The service, in Chennai, is handled by Franchisees of Whirpool. After buying the AC, I got repeated phone calls from the call centre of the company trying to convince me to take an extended warranty. The ladies at the call centre tend to think that we are kinder-garten kids and warn us about the dangers of not taking the extended warranty or AMC as they call it. The extra cost comes at around Rs.3, 500/. As I am a person who doesnot part easily with my money, these people kept on extending the "LAST DATE" for taking the warranty. I refused till the end. But the attitude of the service technicians when they find out that we dont have the AMC is apalling.

They simply go about the free maintenance routine as if they were playing around. Another issue with installation of window AC is that if the window happens to be an old-fashioned one, the service fellow brings his carpenter who charges a ludicrous amount to have the window altered to accomodate the AC. This amount, presumably, is shared between the carpenter and service person.

Chandigarh India
Lately good customer service is turning out to be
Jun 01, 2007 02:06 PM 16049 Views

I am a proud owner of a Whirlpool air conditioner in India.

Lately good customer service is turning out to be a mirage for me.

History

I purchased a air conditioner in Delhi in India in 2004 and took a additional 5 year extended warranty for my convenience(Cost of the same was approx. 25% of the air conditioner cost)

  1. I never received the copy of the extended warranty till now. Still I hold the cover note only. I got transferred to Ahmedabad in 2005 and then back to Chandigarh in 2006.

In 2006 I tracked down the Service Station in Chandigah and got my first free service after 2 years whereas this warranty includes two annual maintenance services for Free.

Also I requested for Insurance policy but.

  1. This year again I tried to contact the Service Centre, but the numbers has changed. I went to your official website but the number mentioned there is incorrect. I tried to contact the corporate office. Again the number mentioned in the website is only ringing and nobody receives the call.

  2. I sent a mail on the customer support in India but.

My proud is now getting drowned

Decent Product
Mar 26, 2006 01:23 PM 17131 Views

I have had the whirlpool white magic 150 qci ac for a while now. It is installed to cool a bedroom around 300 sq feet in size in pune. So while it does not face the sweltering humidity of bombay, pune too gets hot with the temp hitting 40+ degrees on occasion

The good thing about this unit

  1. The unit is lightweight and compact, yet seems to be sturdy. I run it without a stabilizer and no problems so far.

  2. The cooling is good, and it is fast.

  3. The electronic temp controls and features are easy to operate. specially with the included remote.

The bad

  1. The air flow is noisy, specially when runing high.

  2. A bit extra in terms of vibration. But I have it installed in a wooden frame with foam so that compensates.

  3. While it cools well, it is not the most energy efficient ac around

  4. The remote is a bit primitive, they could make the lcd bigger, its hard to read

All said and done, this is perhaphs the only whirlpool product that has not given me a headache.
