Onida is now become very poor company. I bought a air conditioner of this brand which I dont want but my uncle suggest me so bought this. It costly not more .

I facing problems regarding this AC after 16 days .its stopped working wat a shame. I complaint about this. Their service is very slow to work . Service man is also not trained properly I think. But after 3 days its start working again.

But what when its again stop working in 9 to 10 days. I feeling to irritation. They again do the same process . Than I decided to put this AC to the dustbin. Poor poor product.

Talking about the product. First of all product made with a poor quality material. This AC will easily broken.

Now talking about the main aspect of any Air conditioner which is its cooling power. This is also dissapoint me again. At the temprature of 22 degree I feel some sweat in my shirt. Cooling power is low. The sound of this AC is too high. Its noisy. Actually too noisy.

In my last verdict go for other brand.

My window Ac( complaint number 1505A476380124) is having technical problem as compressor is tripping after some time. I registered a complaint about  1st May & after many days & follow ups service center Adnan refrigeration technician came. The service center owner Mr Istekhar was a gentleman. He Deputed the person almost immediately once I reached out to him who diagnosed a PCB IS required.

Since that day I am vigorously following up with Mr Tomar & service center but to no avail. Its been 18 days in scorching heat.I request you to immediately fix the unit or provide a replacement Air conditioner failing which I shall be compelled to sue you in consumer court & you will be responsible for  costs & litigation

Not only this I shall make your other probable consumers aware through social media & Whatsapp.

Do not buy Onida AC
Jul 11, 2014 12:43 PM 40568 Views

I have lodged window AC complaint under complaint No.1407A046350072 on 7th July, 2014.  Technician who attended the complaint informed that the AC needs gas filling and said that another engineer will come to fill up the gas.

Engineer(Mr. Shoukat) who came to fill the gas came to my house and tried to fill the gas but he DAMAGED THE COOLING COIL and told me that this AC requires cooling coil replacement and said the we have to pay Rs.3500.

With regards to this, I want to inform, that we have taken AMC but he denied and asked for the money.  It is surprising that he damaged my AC and demanded money whereas I have already taken AMC to cover AC faults.

After sales service is very poor.  Do not buy Onida AC.  Do not go for AMC.  They charge money for AMC but do not provide the service. Poor product and worst service!

I have been using it since 3 years and I think my electricity bill is far less than my relatives using daikin, napolean, career, LG, samsung etc. it offers amazing cooling at very affordable electricity consumption.

I am a very happy customer and would be buying the same model if available as I do not want to take risk of buying another company and then thinking about electricity bill.

Pathetic Service on EWC
May 31, 2014 11:04 AM 39900 Views

I’ve a 1.5 ton AC that I bought a few years back. Last year in the month of Dec I got a call from ADONIS for the EWC of the AC. I got it done by paying INR 1600/. On 4th may 2014 I registered a complaint with ADONIS that my AC was not cooling and I was told that the technician would visit within two days.

No one showed up till today.

I called again today and again I am being told that a technician will visit in next two days(Ser no. 14050676381378). I wanted to speak to the supervisor and the representative transferred me to some queue where I am waiting for last 30 minutes to speak to someone.

Needless to say the complaint registered earlier has been closed without fixing my ac problem.

This is absolutely pathetic.

ONIDA NOISE MAKING MACHINE
Nov 15, 2011 10:09 AM 18338 Views

I bought ONIDA SPLIT AIRCONDITIONER a month back. it is a five star rated a/c. I dont know the price comparision but IT MAKES HELL LOT OF NOISE.

Window a/c is better than the split. Samsung is a sleeping puppy when compared to ONIDA. folks please think twice before investing on this  piece of junk which will ruin your peace of mind by  great noise. AND about the five star rating, god knows. I need to check on the power bill. good luck

My Onida AC. Neighbours Envy, Owners Pride
Sep 07, 2011 02:20 PM 22273 Views

Friends,

I bought Onida 1.5 Ton cooling capacity in 2009 from Next Gurgaon. When most of people were buying LG, Samsung, Carrier etc, Next showroom guys showed this AC to me lying in 1 corner. Its a 2* rating AC & Costed me 18, 000 with Stablizer & Installation when others were costing almost 20, 000. I thought lets try & trust me that Gamble worked. I am extremly satisfied with the product since last 2 years. Cooling is amazing. Even at 29C temprature, me, my wife & my daughter shivers. Mind it room size is 14*12+ Space for Dressing table & Attached washroom. Till now I've only spent 500/- on 2 service  maintenance. I clean the filter of my own every 45 days. I was told it has same compresser used in Hitachi & only AC with 4 way cooling & boss I have to agree as it cools instantly & extremly. Now comes to electricity bill. Trust me this product has never burnt my pocket. I've used it whole night & days in summer & it has sleep mode feature & low consumption capacity. Max I have seen is almost 600 Units in 1 month. To add these 600 Units includes Microwave usage, TV, Fridge, Fans, Lights & all possible electronic Gadgets. When I talk about this to my neighbours, they all cry for electricity bill almost 20-30% higher then mine  :).

Here are 2 Negatives:

After Sale service not as good as LG & secondly not not a huge brand name so low on Resale.

Friends if you want an AC with amazing cooling, low on Budget & electricity bill, you should look for Onida atleast once. Its worth recomended

Onida Redux
Mar 30, 2011 12:05 PM 35391 Views

This story goes back a while. To when I was 12.

I grew up with a strange love for watching television and hating the Onida TV we owned. I suffered much at the hands of that dreaded set even as a child swearing I would never touch another Onida product ever again. Those were my associations with the brand.

Cut to: April 2008. The time had come to purchase an air-conditioner since Indian summers were getting unbearable and all memory of that brand had virtually faded from my consciousness.

As I dived into research about window AC's, I kept coming across that name again and again - ONIDA! But the difference was, this time they were mostly positive. For reasons obvious, I was quite skeptical about burning my fingers with another Onida product. But after thorough research about power ratings and all those technical things, I ventured to get myself an Onida.

I was surprised to see the salesmen recommend Onida over LG, Samsung etc. at the stores I visited: Croma, Vijay Sales, Sony Mony etc. I finally took a deep breath and purchased the Onida WG18N from Vijay Sales(Opera House, Mumbai) for Rs.16, 900.

Installation was quick and fairly painless and the guys came over with the product and installed it in one afternoon though I felt I got slightly ripped off for installation charges. I've had the AC for over 3 summers now(4th is running) and lets say I am a'heavy user' to put it mildly. It is not unusual for me to have the AC running for 18 of 24 hours a day in summer.

So far, the unit has been performing robustly. There have been virtually no breakdowns - except for one which I believe was a PCB problem.

The build quality is great - thick plastic for the front panel though the buttons tend to be sticky and slightly unresponsive. I don't know much about metals but I believe the cabinet is made of thicker gauge steel than its east-Asian counterparts. There is no foul odour from the unit(I clean the filter regularly) and the AC performs really well in pretty much the only thing that matters - cooling.

On quick chill mode - the compressor is supposed to work full power to cool the room as rapidly as possible(which it does).

My favourite setting though is the dry mode - since I live in Mumbai, humidity can be a bigger cause of discomfort than the heat. This mode is extremely useful in such cases and more often than not, my AC is set to that mode. My next preferred mode is the power saver mode.

Fan mode is pretty much just the fan spinning and the compressor is off resulting in drastically lowered power consumption.

Sensi-mode is supposed to be an'intelligent mode' though I am yet to see any evidence of it.

There are a couple of other modes that are not really critical to this review so I will skip them.

Now for the downside:

This is where India brands take the hit. - yes, the after sales support. For the first year I didn't really face any problems but I think Onida or some guys that work there(or someone at Vijay Sales) sells the customer database to some private firm - important details such as names, address, phone numbers. So I regularly receive calls from these firms trying to sell me their annual maintenance contract(AMC). The first time, I fell for it and purchased one for a year costing me 800 rupees for 4 dry service and 2 water service(BDS). I never saw the BDS, I am usually very wary and untrusting of these kind of marketing calls but the reason why I fell for it is important to mention - the caller says that you have purchased an Onida AC recently and the warranty is about to run out and that they would like to offer you an AMC. Obviously, one assumes that if they knew I have just purchased an AC and had my warranty details, the caller must be from Onida. No!

The truth is that they are from some other small set-up posing as authorised Onida service. One such company that I have been getting calls from is'Sainath Enterprises'. On further inquiry, asking specifically if they were calling from Onida, they will confess and reveal the name of the place they really are calling from. I am still not sure who the real authorised service providers for Onida are. This is my only major problem with Onida.

Apart from that, its been a pretty good buy and I wouldn't think twice about Onida if I were to purchase another AC. During my research I came across from some very solid numbers and comparisons from the online community. If the product lasts for a total of 5 years(which I'm sure it will), I would be pretty satisfied.

Note: this is not a technical review of the product or an AC buying guide - there are other far better and more detailed articles about that. It's a record of my experience with the Onida WG18N.

Onida AC: No focus on Service
Apr 11, 2010 11:10 PM 16198 Views

I bought 2 Onida 1.5 TR Window ACs after lots of research and analysis. Some of the factors that I really went for Onida were : Lower Power compressor in its range and New looks & Cost. In fact from Cost perspective, it is really value for Money. While other products take 20-30% premium because of the Brand or the so called STAR Value, you get this product in a price that do not pinch your pocket.

Also one suggestion if you are buying AC!! Don't get fooled by the STAR ratings. Just look about the products of a particular value (say 1 TR or 1.5 TR which consumes less power and go far that if the brand is acceptable and after sales is acceptable. The only issue with the AC is the HIGH VOLUME THUD NOISE, the compressor makes when it shuts off after temperature is reached. This noise is sometimes so loud that anyone can be thrown out of the bed!  Have noticed this noise more often when the Voltage dips beyond a limit.

Really couldn't understand why Onida couldn't look for this issue when they are not such a bad selling product. I have complained a couple of times to Onida Service Center but no one has turned up. I can only say is that Onida has forgotten about the service which is pathetic. But do we really have any good Customer service left anywhere these days..

Are Onida guys listening? Happy reading/ Buying.

Never buy Onida AC
Apr 10, 2010 04:49 PM 14828 Views

I bought this ONIDA AC some 2 months back, since it was cheaper than other good brands. The installation guy was completely unprofessional, didn't appear on time, we had to call another person for installation since he didn't fit it properly.

Worked for about 1 month and after that stopped cooling, after calling customer care for about 10 times, a technician came to attend it and the problem is, it has gas leak. Now after 1 month of that diagnosis I am still struggling with the customer care and local service center to get it repaired.

Never buy ONIDA AC.

Onida not the best , but still a good deal.....
Oct 18, 2009 08:37 PM 15020 Views

I have been using this ac for last 3 years , its definitely not the best, but a good one.

Its quick chill is very good , but the power save option doesnt work very well with it.

Looks are very good, it looks very elegant.

Easy to use and to get it installed.

Pro's :

1) Cost

2) After sales service in the warranty period.

3) Looks

4) Durability

5) Effectiveness

Con's:

1) Service after your 1st year warranty expires , To service it ( only cleaning ) they charge more than

300 rs , a bit expensive.

2 ) Not energy effecient.

3 ) after sales service after warranty period.

When I called in after 1 year for service , immedeatly they ask if warranty there or expired , they say that just for a visit they charge 300rs and any extra work would be charged as per work tariff.

They didnt even care to ask first what exactly the problem was.

Would have been a better product if would have been a 5 star energy rating.

But not a bad deal , but next time I buy a AC would go for only 5 star energy efficient ones.

ONIDA AC - The biggest mistake
Jun 05, 2008 03:13 PM 17662 Views

It was May 2008. Hot summer season. Until April, I was able to sustain the summers but finally in May I decided, that enough is enough, I need to get a AC. Considering the budget, I decided to get a Window AC.

Then the hunt started for a good brand AC. I went to CROMA. They had Onida, LG, SAMSUNG, Voltas, Eletrolux and Hitachi Window AC on display. I first opted for Samsung, inquired with the sales person and they informed me that they dont have no stock of it! I asked for Voltas, they checked and informed that there is no stock of Voltas too! Then finally I settled with Onida, it was 1.5 ton and cheaper by 2000/- then the other brands which also were not available! I paid them the entire amount and they promised me to deliver within two days!

After two days, I had to make several call to CROMA, until they finally delivered the ONIDA 1.5 ton(W018) at 11.45 pm! Now that was strange, but that was just the start!

ONIDA W018 Window AC was fitted and as soon as it was fitted.it started showing its true colors. It started making noise when started and the fitters told me that it is because the fan is having problem.! FIRST DAY, FIRST MOMENT and ONIDA AC started showing problems! I was shocked.but the fitters were cool! Looked like that as if that has become a usual routine to them. They said to me that' you call our Onida center and ask for engineer'. First day and service call! The engineer when called, was also cool, he said he will come and he did come.but after two days!

That Engineer was a man from seventh planet. He said that nothing is wrong with the AC and it is making noise because the slope is not given properly. So I had to call the fitter again and after arguements between them and the engineer, the altered the slope and fitted the AC. Ironically these fitter were also from Onida!

The AC did stoped making noise, but that was just for 1 day. After that it started making noise that was unbearable and the engineer was again called for. This engineer was the same, and this time he had no mouth to say anything but accept the fact that the AC is faulty by default. He informed his supervisor - Gurudas. This person was also cool. He agreed to replace the AC. After two week and several call, the ONIDA WO18 AC finally arrived at 8.45 pm! Better than 11.45 pm. But that is not the end of the story.

This AC was replaced and fitted. Ironically, as soon as it was fitted it started making noise. The problem was the FAN. The fitter tightened the fan but still the noise was not ready to slow down. They told me to call the engineer. Oh Shit! This was a repeat. But I did called the engineer and he came and did some'trick' and the noise was stopped and AC was fitted in the window. I thought finally the story is over and now no more calls and no more suffering.

The very next day, the noise started! And this time it was unbearable. I called the engineer and he came and he saw and he replaced the broken bowler with a new one. NEW AC and the parts were like this.oh god.that was a nightmare!

The AC started working without making any noise. After two days the AC stoppped cooling and midnight it started making strange noise and as it was going to blast, I turned off this ONIDA AC! Oh God.this was becoming unbearable. After counting 18k for this NEW AC, even for one day it never ever gave that sound chilling experience but only suffering till this moment. I called the engineer again, and he said that nothing to worry. He was cool and assured me that he will talk to Gurudas and Venkatesh who are the AC heads in Pune to replace the AC. He has just left by giving me this assurance. But god know who will trust these ONIDA guys that the second replacement would WORK and would be SAFE to use!

I am still shocked and wondering and'paying' for buying ONIDA AC.

Worst Customer Service from ONIDA
May 05, 2008 09:21 AM 13216 Views

I purchased the 1.5 T W18GM along with Premier Stabilizer from ChellaMani & Co, Chennai on 28th April and the AC reached my home at 7 PM same day, but without the Stabilizer. I asked the delivery guy where is my stabilizer, the reply he gave is "I think I forgot it" so called the store guy multiple times to get the stabilizer before the Onida Technician (who fixes the AC) comes home, but after 4 days the guy requested me to come to the shop and collect the stabilizer. I did that too.

Again I was waiting for the Onida Technician to fix my AC. No one turned up. I called the store guy atleast 10 times and Onida Support Phone no. either says "the number is not active" or it just rings with no one there to pick the phone. After 7 days, I fixed my AC today with another technician from different brand who came to fix AC for my neighbour. Even though the product is good, the service and customer support is very poor. I will never recommend ONIDA.

Everything But the Truth…
Jun 07, 2007 02:14 PM 21036 Views

(This review referes to ONIDA AC WO18 but is on ONIDA and its Truth, not the model. All the personal references are made for continuity. I appreciate the help offered by them except one gentleman at NOIDA mumbai office whose name I could not note)

I was looking for an AC for my second room. I went to Electronics Bazaar (EB) at Shipra Mall in Indirapuram near Delhi. They had a very limited range. I zeroed in on 1.2Ton LG window AC, as my this room is first floor 12x12. But I though to also have a browse at the Reliance Digital store, which has opened recently and stacked everything electrical or electronics under its roof. There I saw the above model of LG tagged slightly above the EB price. There was also this Onida-the Truth- AC with description slip showing model name as WG18. The salespersons told that this is a - hold your breath- 19600BTU/hr AC with an EER of 10.3.(EER -Energy Efficiency Ratio, a measure of overall energy efficiency, in American form is BTU/hr divided by the input wattage. A Kcal equals 3.968 BTU.

In Indian Context BEE EER is the Cooling in watts divided by input power in watts)  I was impressed. The specs and pricing at Rs.15500 outperformed the entire rack which comprised of various models of LG, Godrej, Samsung, Hitachi and yes, O’General. It sounded too good to be true, but the confident salespersons told that this indeed was a very good AC with Matsushita compressor and it was selling like hot cake. I though may be ONIDA was becoming aggressive to enter the market. I was also to get a gift travel and lodging voucher for a couple to some destinations across India, with customary fine print. The fine print said that I have to pay Rs 2250 per person as travel surcharge and Rs 350 per person for lodging. I said whatever, Let me have the product and the dust bin the offer. So far So good.

The card was swiped. I was handed over the bill and thus became a deemed proud owner of another AC. A great peace of engineering at that!

The sales executive Mr. Varun promised me that he would try his best to get it delivered by 2:00pm next day at my home which is located a few hundred metres from the Shipra Mall. I felt delighted.

Next morning I received a call from the Reliance Ware House (DC) in Greater NOIDA asking me whether I wanted the AC to be delivered. I said of course, with pleasure, that is why I paid 15500bucks. They said sure, sir, we are setting off for your house. Even So far So good.

Then half an hour later I receive a call from the store asking whether I had indeed made the payment. I said politely, “Yes Ma’am. Do you have any doubts? why you should?” She told that it was all right and that they would check their system again. (The system…. Everyone has a system in place which is like a blackhole most of the time..banks..stores..you name it, they have it).

Till about 3:00pm I waited for the delivery of the newfangled thing. When it did not turn up, I called back the DC no. They asked my name. I told them. They tell that there was no delivery advice in my name. Take that!

I called up the Reliance Digital(store) again. I was asked my name nth time. The helping executives told that it was not possible that day as there was some slip in the System and the delivery was possible only the next day. In the evening I visited the store and talked to the store manager Mr Kundu and he assured me that they would try their best.  Indeed, it was delivered at 9:10pm the same day. Even So far so good.

The real story-of intrigue, suspense, emotion, drama- begins now.

The carton displayed model name as WO18, whereas the model name at display was WG18. No problems. But the Capacity was 4500Kcal/hr at 1850watts. The engineer in me woke up with a calculator and conversion table in hands. It was a 17856BTU/hr piece with EER of 9.65. hahaha

Next morning, I contacted Onida  representative in Delhi office Mr Kunal- a really helpful gentleman. I told him the entire story and emailed him the mathematics. He told that he would get in touch with his Mumbai head office and revert. I also kept Reliance Digital people in loop and they were also made aware of the issue. After waiting for a while, I directly contacted their Mumbai office. I was put through to a certain Mr Sidharth Kakkar.

He told me that it is indeed a 19600BTU/hr Hitachi compressor with an EER of 10.3. And that they do not manufacture anything with an EER below that. They are printing lower capacity on carton for some legal/statutory reasons. He also assured me that I could return the piece if I was not satisfied with the internal spec plates while installation. I requested him to email me a brochure of WO18 model which has these actual specs. He told that he would but didn’t for a couple of hours.

I rang up their land line number and I was put through to some boss type, who proclaimed, “Tivari, I will tell Sidharth to call you back”. Even my superiors do not address me like that. He was not interested in details. I wanted to give him a dirty piece of my mind, but refrained as I was in a hospital then.

Sidharth calls back and tells that he had been busy in a meeting and he would send me the brochure (which had become the most elusive thing. I forgot to tell that I had already checked ONIDA web site and it listed only the good WG18model listed. No reference of any WO18.) Based on such an assurance, I had already given go ahead to Reliance Digital people for installation.

In the evening the installation people from Reliance Digital duly called me and confirmed their time of visit. They come at the specified time and as they open the carton, I saw the body shell buckled on both the sides. I also noticed the fins of condenser damaged. But this was not important. Before this I checked the nameplate on chassis of the AC. This also bore the rating as 4500kcal/hr and power consumption of 1850 watts. The compressor was not Hitachi but some 'Highly' of China. The pretension was over. I took photographs and asked the installation guys to pack-up the box. I had not yet received the brochure.

I went to the Reliance Digital and I was directed to the in charge Mr Wasim. He heard the story and understood the issue. I was told that the piece will be replaced with any other of my choice. They were even ready to refund money. In the meantime I thought I should, for a last time, check with the ONIDA people. I called up Kunal at about 9:00pm. He not only picked up the call, also assured me that his brochure says that it is 19600/10.3. I told that I can only believe if I see. He told me that he was under impression that the issue has been resolved, as Mumbai people would have forwarded the brochure. But Mumbai people did not cared much and I told him that I was closing the ONIDA file. I chose a 1.2T AC of my tested brand LG. I hope the new piece would be delivered and installed today.

Last seen Onida WO18 was selling like hot cakes yesterday also across many stores(including EB) under the pretensions of WG18, with naïve customers in a beeline being taken in by the tall claims of the Truth kind. I was seen cooling my tired heels and sour fingers in my old AC at my home. But I have still energy left to warn people about the ONIDA kind of truth especially about the WO18.

Never ever buy onida ac
May 12, 2007 10:16 PM 20877 Views

You will read all the good things about onida acs , high eer , heavy body etc etc.but in real there is nothing like that. I bought onida 1.5 ton window ac from there dealer in palwal on 11/5 2007 . at that time he gave me a cataloge of onida acs.there was a single model for window  , wg18 .he said it has japanes matushita compressor (19517 btu 10.3 eer).i read very good reviews on various websites.so I ordered one.but he installed one wo18 model which was a far inferior machine   having a chinease compressor of less btus and power .cooling capacity is not good.i contacted the dealer.

He said that this year onida is providing this model only .they have changed the model , the compressor, specifications, and all that but neither there website nor there cataloges are updated till today.customer  come to know this only after it is installed.now I have that wo 18 in my bedroom running all night and giving me headache as it is a energy guzzler.

It is far inferior machine.wg18 was good but they are not giving you that.it is like showing one thing and packing another in "chor bazaar".i reported this matter to there customer care helpline but there was no response from them Always  buy any genuine ac brand, voltas, carrier, hitachi, o general etc.they are costly but will save you in future.correct me if I am wrong.my no is 09896983699.

Quality product from Onida
May 29, 2006 02:03 PM 15620 Views

When we decided to purchase AC I had done through survey to find quality product. We have Considered Onida, Godrej, Samsung, O general and Hitachi. My criteria for selection are low noise level and low electricity bill.

On survey we come to know that in particular category Onida provides 19517 BTU / hr where as others’ are under 18500. The other specification like remote control, noise level and air circulations are same. Further I found that Hitachi and O General falls under premium category which costs 1.5 times higher that those.

On marketing side LG and Sumsung is most common brand available with al most all dealers. I believe LG as strong marketing company which stood no. 1 due to its marketing power not product quality. My opinion further endorsed by the installation person (carpenter). He told me that the body of Onida is very hard and takes more time to screw it. Anticipating LG as my answer I immediately asked “which product is easy to screw”. “LG” was his reply.

After installation I feel that the battery compartment of Onida remote control is loose. It drops out with slight movement. I compliant it to Onida customer care Mumbai via email and I got immediate replacement at next day. I must appreciate Onida service. Though I got replacement for Remote I have given my feedback to production department of onida regarding loose battery compartment.

It’s 25 days now and it’s like cool. I am quite satisfied and recommend Onida’s AC. It gives value for money.

The Onida W218YR 18000 BTU is the perfect machine to beat the heat. It is strong, heavy and makes less noise, comes packed with a Hitachi compressor to provide industrial strength cooling in your home.

The controls and the remote also work fine. The casing is good the filters are fine I don’t know the power consumption aspect but the EER is 10.2 in the spec sheet.

The pricing is very competitive at 14K and the service network is good. Current day AC’s look sleek and do not match to be called as the real ACs (the big heavy ones that last for years). There are newer models available from the Onida Stable but I don’t know how they fare, do check them up before you finalize on one. It’s the price that made we select this initially.

Just check that it is Onida and pick up this cool thing for fighting the hot Sun.
