GODREJ AC, bad experience
May 10, 2006 11:29 AM 14818 Views

When I wanted to buy an ac I had several options. I thought I should try out Godrej that comes from a good business house and a name I can trust. Infact, I decided to buy Godrej over many others. I went one step further by not buying same ac brands, which were serving me well. All this for the brand name and cost.

I have realised that I have fallen in the brand trap! It is the worst ac I have in my house and it has never functioned properly. No other ac in my house however old it has been has never given me this trouble. Their support numbers dont respond to our calls. Their dealers don’t respond well. I tried servicing it many times with no effect. It leaks consistently and it does not cool.

Godrej is no doubt a reputed company and other products, which come from them, are all around my house and they are good. However, AC from Godrej is yet to create an impression in me.

Never Buy Godrej AC
May 05, 2006 04:07 PM 17475 Views

2 weeks back when I was evaluating A/c for purchasing, Godrej was never in picture. Godrej was suggested by the dealer, who offered 1.5T at Rs.500 less than the brand I chose (onida). The discount, the brand image Godrej and Smartcare made me to consider and buy Godrej.

The person who came to install was very rude and suggested hefty charges of Rs.900 for making the A/c fit to my window as against Rs.250 suggested by the dealer. Besides that he said, he has got a wood piece which he will use for closing the patch and it would cost Rs.250 more. I bought the same type of piece from a local timber shop at Rs.30/- . He never gave me the installation report but had collected the charges.

It worked fine for 3 days. But one fine morning, when I turned the A/c on, my fuse blew off. I replaced the fuse and restarted A/c only to find the fuse again blowing off. As it could be due to an electrical problem, I had an electrician to check the power and he certified to be good and diagonised the problem to the A/c. I complained to Godrej Smartcare through the Dealer (28th of April 2006). For nearly a week no one turned up for service. Yesterday (05/05/06) one person came and given in writing that the compressor is weak and needs to be replaced. within one week, I don't think any compressor will fail.

More than the failure of the A/c, it was the poor quality of service from Godrej which hurt me. The helpdesk says, I have to speak to the Service In charge Mr Shivakumar, who never attends the fone (he has two active mobiles). Not only for customer but even for the dealer. I have decided to return the Godrej A/c and go in for some other brand. and the dealer also has agreed.

But, this way, if Godrej functions, it is definitely Smart Don't Carecustomer service.

Godrej GWC 18G2 - 1.5 Ton Window AC

I have recently bought a Godrej Window AC - 1.5 Ton. Initially when I decided to go for an AC, Godrej was not the brand I had even thought of. I had prepared my mind to go for LG. When I started my research, I was looking for 1 Ton AC which I still believe is adequate for a room of the size of my bedroom and location of my apartment.

Would like to mention that you have to be very careful when you decide the capacity of AC you would like to go for - as there are so many options available viz. 0.75, 0.8. 1.0, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0 Ton. Deciding factor is basically the room size but along with that you should also watch out your floor, if its a ground floor, a low capacity AC might also work but if you are at top floor with sun burning your roof, you should take the technical advise. I will advise minimum of 1.5 Ton, however, if you can afford go for 2 Ton. As for the apartments which are on the middle floors, 1.5 Ton is generally sufficient in normal conditions.

So coming back to the AC I bought - I was looking for a 1 Ton AC but unfortunately it was not available with the dealer (Digital Shoppy) at that time. So I moved on to Hyderabad Central, there I found the one I was looking for. Everything was fine except Remote Control, I was told that if I wish to go for Remote Control I need to shell out at least two thousand rupees more. So I convinced myself that this is a Window AC, who needs a Remote to operate it. When I was making up my mind the sales representative just took a break and left to attend other customers. So I decided to wait for him and take a look around at other ACs which were on display. I saw a Godrej 1.0 Ton AC which was having a Remote Control as well. On enquiry I got to know that its available at the same price as that of LG without Remote.

I got interested in that and then I saw another Godrej AC which was bigger than the previous one, I was told its 1.5 Ton and it too has a Remote. When I enquired about the price I was told I will get than in 14000 Rs. That was just a little more than what I would have paid for LG. On comparison I concluded -

LG 1.0 Ton without Remote VS Godrej 1.5 Ton with Remote

Now that was a straight forward verdict. I asked Sales Representative and he told me that its a quality product from Godrej. I cross checked with the Sales Manager and he assured me about the performance. I made up my mind at that instant only.

AC was installed the very next day, after installation technician started his check, he found some problem with the sound made by compressor. He called up the Godrej Dealer, they talked for few minutes and after disconnecting the call technician told me that they are replacing this AC with a new AC. I was surprised to hear this, technician told me that he is not satisfied with the sound from compressor which for me was not much of a problem. Next day those guys came with a New AC, installed, checked and verified that everything was working fine.

Since then I am having a cool life. I am using it for past two months. It has rapid cooling, air purifier, bacteria filter, and 4-way cooling. Its front display is lovely - shows room temperature, user-set temperature, fan speed, etc. User can operate all controls from the front display itself. Remote is backlit to enable you to operate your AC at night without switching on any external light. Timer is the extensively used feature and me too use it to my benefit. I put on a timer of two hours when I go to bed and AC will switch off after two hours saving power, electricity bill and money of course. You can also use On Timer as well.

With this AC, I bought a Voltage Stabilizer for 1800 Rs from the dealer itself. Installation has cost me around 500 Rs. So over all my expenses are sum total of 14000 + 01800 + 00500 = 16300 Rs.

I am completely satisfied with the product and would advise you to at least take a look at it when you go around buying an AC. You are welcome to post a message in the form of comment, if you have any query. I would be glad to answer you.

Godrej 1.0T
Dec 13, 2004 12:09 PM 7523 Views

This product was purchased on September 4, 2004 from Snehanjali Appliances, near Navrang, Andheri West for the special Price Offer as also because I was doing my house.

The product is excellent as far as cooling technology goes. However the After Sales Sevice is lousy, in one single word.

To prove this point, is my complaint number 602818 dated November 16, 2004 whereby it was reported that the Swing is not working. After nearly a week someone came to inspect the machine. The problem was reported as a small plastic sparepart getting broken and needing replacement. Subsequently another mechanic came the next day again to inspect the machine and the first thing he said was the first person was a hoax.

After checking up it was confirmed that both Service hands were genuine and the office had not recorded the call. Further on December 4, Godrej did carry out the regular quarterly maintenance, of course minus the sparepart, which is till date not available.

Today when I spoke to Service Franchisee Bhushan refrigeration, he said that the part is not available. Immediately I spoke to Mr Atul Sharma, Godrej Service Executive, he says the part is available but there is some mismatch but the the problem would be attanded today. Incidentally, both these people sit in the same office premises.
