Order Reference # 547228
Ordered groceries online for the first time on Oct. 8, 2013. Bought some cooking oil, ghee and ragi flour from Zopnow. The delivery came within the promised time frame, the delivery guy was nice, the order was correct, the computer generated invoice is itemized(includes tax details) and the products were in good condition.
The site offers a reasonable selection of brands, especially cooking oils. Safal groundnut oil has become very hard to find in shops, even Big Bazaar seldom carries it, so I was very happy to find it at Zopnow.
And the oil packets were squeaky clean!
The cleanliness of all the packages was a very nice change from what I'm accustomed to; every time I've bought cooking oil from Richmond Market, Nilgiri's and other shops in the Richmond Town/Ashok Nagar area, the oil packs are always filthy and grimy and must be scrubbed clean with soap before opening to prevent contaminating the oil.
And.
If your order exceeds Rs 500 you get free shipping.
You also accumulate reward points called "zoppies" that can be used on your next order, and if you refer a friend they give you some bonus zoppies.
If you order early in the day you will receive your order the same day, like I did.
From now on, I plan to buy the majority of our groceries, hygiene products and household items online. I've had good experiences with Flipkart, Snapdeal, Ebay and Zopnow(Bad experiences with Naaptol and Indiatimes). I know certain people whine about the "threat" that online shopping poses to brick and mortar shops, but if the shop keepers would act civilized for once in their lives they wouldn't face extinction!
Feeling threatened? Use common sense! Keep the merchandise clean, discard expired items, run the coolers properly so that perishables don't start rotting and stinking before they're sold(Discovered some very foul fowl in a warm cooler in Nilgiri's at Richmond Town), sell everything at fair prices without indulging in communal or racial discrimination, and keep sufficient change!
Richmond Market is notorious for dirty and expired merchandise, fleecing people(especially foreigners and fair skinned natives) on items that lack MRP labels, charging above MRP on Nandini milk, and giving candy in lieu of change.
Also, if shop keepers were smart they would aggressively, publicly demand that the BBMP install modern footpaths and safe pedestrian crosswalks while demanding that the cops take an iron fisted approach to psychotic drivers, including those antisocial, inbred barbarians who drive and park on the footpaths! If it were safe to walk from point A to point B in Bangalore, more people would be willing to shop in brick and mortar establishments!
