Zinda as a movie represents the journey of Sanjay Gupta as a director from Aatish to Musafir. His technical finesse was never in question, but story-telling and extracting performances has definitely improved. Zinda is the most dark and violent movies among all made by Gupta.
This psycho-thriller based in Bangkok keeps you at the edge of your seat with its storyline and treatment. The story is of a software engineer Bala (Sanjay Dutt) and how he is abducted abruptly one fine day. Unaware about the cause of his abduction, he stays locked for 14 years and is set free on the roads of Bangkok. After hitting the streets to find the culprit, he bangs into Jenny (Lara Dutta), a cab driver, who helps him in his quest. Just when you are fed up of analysing the reason for his suffering, Rohit (John Abraham) appears and the story takes a sharp curve. The suspense keeps building up and the story unfolds as to how Rohit is connected to what Bala went through for 14 years.
Dutt’s performance of Bala’s trauma is the bloodline of Zinda. John’s character although not developed completely leaves an impression. The music is more like background music and is already a hit. The movie is worth a watch, but the next time we just expect Gupta to give us something original.
