The Scent of a Woman. Review on Yves Saint Laurent Fragrances

One of my colleagues is all set for the wedding bells this June and has all the symptoms of a wud-be-groom - the soaring telephone bills, the house hunts, the occasional surprise visits (by air of course) and huge credit card bills.

Since Men are from Mars and have no clue of the paraphernalia that lie on our cluttered dressers it was not surprising that he wanted me to help him choose the perfect gift for the birthday of his beloved.

I suggested diamonds, cudly teddies, handbags, cosmetic sets …but he had given them already so finally I suggested perfumes and nothing but the best –Opium (not the narcotic one).

There are those who hate perfumes and there are many who luv them but few wud be like me – I am a perfumaniac.

But people of both categories beware u really are going to get addicted on to this one -no wonder it is called Opium!

When OPIUM was launched in 1977, Yves Saint Laurent said:

''I chose OPIUM for the name of this fragrance because I hope very much that it will diffuse through its incandescent powers, divine fluids, magnetic waves, the things that most appeal to the heart, the charms of seductions, which give birth to passionate life, when you fall head over heels, fatal ecxtasy...''

This perfume is a blend of lush florals, rich spices, and deep wood and is always advertised as an oriental fragrance (most probably ‘coz Spices belong to the Orient).

A lille dab of it on u’r wrist and u can forget a bath for the next couple of days (!) ‘coz this is one perfum, which lingers on you throughout the day. This is ideal for parties or weddings but would also help you on one of your low dump days - I always get loaded with questions about “Whatz that perfume u r wearing??”

The eau de perfume comes in a very appealing packaging - beautiful case of red . interspersed with Gold –just like the Oriental Queen.

The only downside of this is the cost – it is about Rs.3000 in India and about 40-50$ in the US for a 100ml bottle. Pick it up on your next business trip abroad or better still drop a hint to that aunt of urs coming from there. This has quite a strong and heady smell so people who do not have a taste for stronger scents should keep away from this one.

So all those gals who love fishing for compliments go ahead and indulge in this one.- 'coz U r worth it!

and guys what r u waiting for – this wud be an ideal gift – Mother’s Day was just round the corner.
